This place is extremely racist I do not recommend young black men going there at all. Been going here for 30 days. They say safety is their number one priority they barely have a point man when you enter the gate. They have no supporting employees to navigate where to go and to ensure safety from their claw onto loading Semi trucks. You are unloading your truck onto metal that has not been cleared out the way so if a truck that is leaving to go get weighed again is passing and drags a piece you might want to watch out for your legs or any part of your vehicle. The employees are not coordinating with one another, one employee will always tell you to come and the next one will always tell you to stop to cause confusion. The weight takers are sometimes okay depending on if they want to jip you or not. Time to collect your money, the second computer man is extremely racist and is very negative towards identifying people, That do not resemble his liking whatever that may be at the time of day. These guys try to get over on the customers and not reliable. Spoke directly to the owner and sent him pictures. Told me the price and the quality of what it is. Come down and we will take care of the damages his other location did. Got there and they tried to low ball me with half of what he even told me. I drove 2 hrs to him. And to top it off the owner specifically told me to ask for him when I got there. Come up with an excuse for not coming out after I told them I'll just going to have to take them to court. More bang for your cans! It's usually crowded during all times of day, so take your pick at times and hopefully you get lucky. Usually head out at 7am with my moms when it opens on Saturday morning to avoid lines. Monday-Thursday: 7:00am to 4:15pm Saturday: 7:00am to 12:30pm I like how much more organized this one is compared to the Oakland location and the fact there's parking right outside. There's bins for you outside to put your bottles, cans and glass in. Make sure you separate them and that there's no water or contents inside. Somebody will be there right away to assist you with the weighing, taking notes. It's an interesting process. The recycling, at least the first part happens before your eyes so you get to see what happens. They take and copy your Id, give you a receipt and then cash you out and be well out on your day. The service and staff members are very friendly and helpful. The quickness to the familiarity of their jobs makes everything go so much smoother. They buy Cans currently at 2.05/lb. Plastics #1/#2 at 1.00/lb. Glass at .105/lb. Alco prides themselves in paying 40% more for CRV aluminum cans than you pay for CRV deposit. Their staying is legit because across the street where it's only 2.00/lb. When your family drinks as much as mine, it's seems worth while to save our cans, glass and plastics to get some $ back. I went in to buy some one inch 16ga tubing. Pleasant service. They had a nice display on the wall showing cross section and descriptions of what they stocked. I bought five 20' sticks. I think they said cutting charge was $10 per cut, so I was prepared to cut them in half with a hack saw so we could fit them in my buddy's pickup truck. They said we couldn't do it in the parking lot because of liability but could do it off premises. But when they found out that I only needed to cut them in half they said cutting in half was free. Prices seemed reasonable. Maybe around a buck a pound? Anyway, they are a third or fourth of the price the hardware store or online sellers (after shipping) charges. An employee on a fork lift was attempting to move a 20' x 10' plate of steel with one fork Lyft ehile i was parked picking up my order. No one told me, it was not marked off with cones so I didn't know what was going on until He started yelling and cursing at me in Spanish someone came out of the warehouse waving their arms 20 feet away yelling and screaming at me in Spanish I got back in my truck backed up and ran into a piece of metal $2000 worth of damage on my bumper called Alco they referred me to a guy name Ron Ward ex police officer basically is dropping the case after three months of me contacting them. Alco is non professional they are not cool with female customers. They should've marked the area! This should've never happened it was the most unsafe situation I've ever been in. Before they moved across the street they were a full 5 star operation in the eyes of this group, a metal Mecca. It has been downhill ever since. You can still find some smalls for repair and machining purposes, but now the minimum order is $75. So if you just need a couple of pounds of aluminum to machine, or a bit of sheet metal, it is probably cost effective to order it online. Or even to drive to the metal store in San Jose. If you're a hobbist, an inventor, a tinker, or just want to build something human scale, well, you're SOL. While they DO have a section of metal remnants, some idiot requires a $75 minimum purchase. And what about their used metal scrap yard conveniently across the street? Like most Bay Area scrap yards, they won't sell, but they're happy to buy your street signs, traffic lights, guard rails, manhole covers, large appliances, etc. The idle cashier argued that it was inefficient to sell smaller quantities of metal stock at a fair markup, ignoring the vast inefficiency of collecting metal domestically, selling it to Chinese buyers, shipping it halfway across the world only to have it come back as a new, soon-to-scrap. read more

I have purchased metal from ALCO for a couple of years now, but as of today, I am looking for a new supplier. I went to purchase a 4' x 10" sheet or steel (or two) and the price for the Steel ($65) was GREAT!, but then I asked them to shear it into 2' x 4' sections (as I always have to do, driving a VW Golf and all...) and they informed me it would be "....ummmm.... let's see.... ummmm $40" I said $40 it is usually $10???? he said yep, it costs $30 just to "fire it up" (it was already in use, BTW) and then $2 per shear.... I have NEVER been charged a $30 set up fee to do this and I will NOT EVER pay $40 to cut a $65 piece of steel, that is just greedy BS. That was one sheet, i did not even ask about two..... I work next door to this business and see uncovered loads of metal going in and out of there all the time. I never thought much of it until four days before Christmas, when on my way to work my tire blew out. I drive a big truck and tires are not cheap, and unfortunately for me, I had just gotten new tires after saving for them. I called ALCO after my tire guy said they should take care of it, since it was a 5 inch shank and obviously came from their yard, but to my complete disappointment their safety guy Ron said, "sorry, how do we know it didn't come from the Davis Street dumps first of all, and how are we going to make money if we have to pay people that come to us with things like this". I am still in shock just because, why would anyone make something like this up, and you are a metal recycling place. Are you kidding me? Besides the money, I had to have a flat changed, then sit another day in the tire shop waiting for the new one, which isn't what I consider fun right before Christmas.
