This restaurant is amazing and a great addition to the area. I ordered chicken parm and it came out quickly and was delicious. It is BYOB and they even give you ice buckets for the table. I recommend coming around sunset so you can eat and see the great views over the water read more

Had a disastrous and disappointing dinner there. There were not many customers there as it was 5:39.Took forever to get our $8 bowl of clam chowder which was not a chowder at all, not even a soup, but rather tomato broth filled with carrots, celery and onions and a minute amount of clams. They did notice that we didn't eat it and at least they took it off of the bill. My husband ordered crab cake dinner which was mostly breading and did not come with either tartar nor cocktail sauce. My entree was the crab cake appetizer to be served with zuppa de clams. Only clams arrived (mediocre). We repeatedly asked for more garlic bread for the zuppa broth) and it NEVER came so we finally gave up. So guess when my crab cake arrives - just as soon as my husband took the last bite of his dinner. I told the waitress it was too late and she explained that she was sorry but that's how the kitchen was working (one thing coming up). The most bizarre part is that there is a regular door between the inside dining area and outside dining area and since it would only open and close with a door knob servers had to yell out "door" and wait for a busboy or someone to hold the door open. Sometimes they just left the door open which was 5" away from my husband's chair. It was cold with the door open so he had to eat with his coat on. They are not ready to open yet. We complained but I cannot imagine the amount of return business they lost out on with people not saying anything and just not going back and warning friends and family not to go there. Not sure why this place is getting less than at least 4 star reviews. It's not fancy, very casual. The place is older but whistle clean. The staff is amazing. Friendly, courteous, and helpful. Every dish we ordered was delicious. Platted nicely and delivered to our table in a timely fashion. The seafood was so fresh and so good. Even their Italian chicken parm was delicious. We were a party of 5 and every one of us were thrilled with our meals. I highly recommend giving it a try. The new owners are doing a fantastic job with a place that has had a rough go of it. This place is a winner and we will be going back often. We wish them the best for a very successful business. read more

My wife and I went at a bit after 8pm for a late dinner. We wanted to check out the new restaurant and used to go to the previous places at that location over the years and it was always good. Prices are high but seafood coats are up so I willnt go there. Coffee was dark and bottom of the pot. My friend seafood was burnt but not over cooked for the scallops and fish. The shrimp were overcooked so I guess they fried it all together. The burnt breading may be from too high heat or not changing the oil. My guess is there is a lot of old breading in the bottom of the fryer. The scallops still had the muscle on them ( they should be removed before breading. A small amount of roasted potatoes and broccoli with some garlic. I ended up stripping the breading off to eat the seafood. My wife had the Caesar salad. She asked for some anchovies and they didn't have them so the small salad of Romain had jarred dressing or it was homemade and not a Caesar dressing. It was advertised with shaved cheese but had none so we asked and it was provided. The table next to us had their dinners serves cold and they left after having only soup. Another table had a couple who shared an entree, probably due to the cost. I originally ordered a seafood stew in a red sauce and I asked if it was served over pasta. She said yes, but came back and said it was not so I changed my order. Without a pasta or rice it should be an appetizer? We were not impressed and it is very difficult to open a restaurant in this economy. It seems they have the family working there and that is to be admired. I would suggest a better coffee and keeping it fresh. At this price point II would have napkins and a dress code for staff I suggest removing scallop muscles, check fryer temps and oil quality often, frying shrimp separately, serve a medley of roasted red and sweet potatoes and butternut squash, serve a starch with entrees. Also the staff should return to the table soon after serving each course and some small talk with the customers when it's not busy is a good way to increase tips. Personally I do not like added service charges for charging the meal on a card. This is in the price, the same as an electric bill. If you want to put a sign on the table that says please pay with cash so I can pay less taxes, that's always an option. I know people who see that and just reduce the tip and staff should not indirectly pay for that. read more

This is my first YELP review in a while but I felt the need. First let me say, I am a spoiled New Englander- great beaches, and great seafood are never more than a short drive away for me. This weekend, I took my first ever trip to the New Jersey shore. It's a very nice place; boardwalks, beaches and houses perched on what reminded me of Florida's inter coastal. Lots of boats and jets skis, but where was the great seafood? I found it. A new place called Sunset Seafood in Seaside Heights, NJ is a gem! Right on the dock, with beautiful sunset views --this is a casual BYOB place--with outstanding food. For apps the crab cakes were meaty, and calamari was crisp on the outside, tender inside. Coconut Shrimp, Breaded Chicken Wings and Mussels in Red Sauce were great starters. Each plate could have been meal. Shrimp Scampi and Seafood Fra Diavolo had great Italian flavor. Fresh tuna with teriyaki glaze was a big hit at our table--as well as the NY strip steak and fries. (There is always one in the crowd!) Seafood platters were huge! Salads are very fresh, and the fresh garlic bread for every table is a nice touch. Plus, fresh desserts that come in from "the City' daily. The apple crumb pie was fabulous! Kudos to anyone who opens a restaurant in these challenging times, but these folks know what they're doing. Wait staff is great! On the night we were there they had lost a line cook--but service was still almost flawless. I would definitely go again--the breakfast and lunch menus both looked really fun! With a bottle of wine, a cool breeze and the sunset, Sunset Seafood is a place where you won't mind a bit of a wait! read more

This place is one of the best in all of seaside. I cannot recommend it enough, the food was phenomenal, the service was top tier, and the views were to die for. Sunset seafood really is the best place to watch the sunset as you have a beautiful dinner with your friends and family. 100% would recommend the oysters and baked clams but every single thing I tried was phenomenal so you really can't go wrong! read more

Hope they get better. The calamari was really good, the clam chowder was too watery, but the worst part is that their entrees are just not complete. My fiance and I got the blackened tuna and snow crab legs, but neither of them came with a starch. The crab legs ($50 price tag) literally just came out as a few crab legs on a metal tray lol no corn, no potatoes, nothing. I had to pay extra for a separate side of potatoes. I've never seen anything like that before. The blackened tuna came with an arugula salad but also no starch. Are these low carb diet dishes? Other than that, the outdoor seating was nice and the service was good. I'm hoping that this place fixes the incomplete food. read more

2.5 really... When you hear about a new seafood joint on the bay you gotta try it! We got there at 6:30, there was a 45 minute wait, but they were perfect with the wait time. Was a true 45 minutes. We sat by the fire and hung out, ambiance was great! Staff was incredible, very nice and accommodating. We had a baby with us, so they sat us where it wouldn't be inconsiderate to the other diners, which was great. To this point I would say the experience was a 4 out of 5, but we didn't come just for ambiance, IT'S ABOUT FOOD BABY!!!! Here's where we get wishy washy... ordered appetizers Wings, Calamari, clams & oysters on a half shell & clams oreganato. Calamari was cold when it came out, so that wasn't to great, and the portion was pretty small. Oysters and clams were great, but ice was melted when they were brought to the table so they were sitting in water which gave it a chlorine kinda flavor. Not so good. Clams oreganato were decent, and they forgot the wings. We flagged down the waitress, and she put em right in for us. She was very accommodating. When we did get the wings there were only 6 and they were tiiiiiiny... for what they charged I didn't think they were good... 1 star on the wings. Entrees: We got the seafood platter, seafood fra diavolo, Hawaiian tuna, and linguini in clam sauce... gonna sum this one up all together. Small portions, EXTREMELY SALTY, all around about 2.5 on the meals, was not impressed. I have to say we won't be going back for dinner again. Bill was $275 w/out tip. For the money, there's other places on the island I would rather put my cash. This was subpar to other seafood restaurants we have visited... and there have been ALOT! We will however swing by for breakfast and give them a go... it could be like a other place that is no longer but was a staple for a long time (Pier House) which didn't do dinner great, but knocked it out the park with breakfast! We'll let you know after we get our pancake on. Ambiance is a strong 4 though, sunset was awesome, great location! Staff was great as well, very kind, and responsive. First seasons are always hard, they have good potential, just gotta work out the kinks. read more

The food was pretty good. They had plenty of food options for kids. The lobster roll I ordered didn't have nice big lumps of lobster like I expected. It was almost shredded lobster, but it tasted good. Would probably go again next time I am in seaside heights. read more

Was excited to try this place and support a local business but ... Very Dissatisfied... Service is slow and servers are inexperienced. Breakfast was equally disappointing. Greek omelet was extremely small and avocado toast had about a tablespoon of avocado divided over the two slices of bread. Definitely not worth the price charged. Also ordered a dish with pancakes and we had to ask for syrup. Thought about trying this place a try for dinner but won't waste my time. read more

Saw all positive reviews so we came in on a tuesday for dinner. Sat right away (we had a reservation) and our drinks took a bit to get to us. We werent in a hurry so that didnt matter. We ordered our food and that took a bit long to get to us too. Which its seafood so its all good. One of us got the spicy linguini with mussels, shrimp, and clams and first off the sauce was absolutely gross. It was like someone dropped an entire spice jar of red pepper flakes into a tiny bit of marinara sauce. It was to spicy for any of us (we all tried it and i love spicy and that was nasty). The shrimp in 4 meals were completley over cooked and rubbery. We told the waitor about the spicy dish that did not taste good and barely ate and the manager said he cant comp us for it but gave us two pieces of cake. We ordered our two pieces of cake and 10 minutes later we got one of the two because they were out of the other one. We got the check and were ready to leave and when we gave the waitor our card for the final bill, he came over and said there is a 4% service charge for debit / credit purchases. Dont you think a place should either post that somewhere or tell us up front. He did offer an atm outside but theres a service fee for that too. Needless to say we will never go back and I would not reccomend this place. read more

Do not go here!!!!! Honestly just the worst service for a place that charges so much for their food and has such small portions. The whole experience was a mess. After being seated, and placing our order, it was like we were completely forgotten about. After waiting well over 15 minutes just for water and soda, a new waiter came over to our table informing us that he was taking over our table. He quickly went over our order, but it was as if it never got put in to begin with. Why our initial waitress stopped waiting on us, I have now idea. She continued to work other tables and it's not like we were rude at any point so who knows. Anyway, it took and hour....yes a real hour, just for an appetizer to come out. Right before it did, our waiter asked us if we had gotten anything yet and we said no. He almost seemed to be coming over to our table to take a new order( which if it was the case, it would have been the 3 time going over what we wanted). He informed us that our entree was going to be worked on to eventually be brought out. After we said we would just like to cancel the entrees, simply because enough was enough with the unnecessary length of wait time and complete inefficiency of how things were ran, he pretty much told us we couldn't cancel the entree because it was partially made. Now it seemed like it had not even been started just moments earlier. Our waiter said he would talk to the chef to speed the process up and our food finally came out. Being dumped off on another server the way we were basically started our already long wait all over again. I don't think I've seen a more disorganized, mismanaged establishment. There was nothing about this experience that was positive at all. There was nothing about our service that deserved any tip whatsoever. Stay away from this one. It's not worth the prices at all. read more

Sad to say I am disappointed! We've always enjoyed the other restaurants that were there prior to this one, and we were looking forward to dining here. We went for lunch and when I tried to order a grilled chicken Caesar salad, I was told that was on the dinner menu, so I ended up getting a burger. My husband also got a burger, and we waited approximately 50 to 55 minutes. Sadly, the burger was not good! It had a weird taste, as if it had Worchester sauce or something weird on it. Also, the 8 French fries I got were cold. We noticed that the wait staff was nowhere to be found for most of the time we were there. They definitely were young and untrained, and I do understand it's hard to get help these days. We had to ask several times for ketchup and they brought over a nearly empty bottle --twice. I realize they are new, and hopefully they improve in time. Not sure if I would give it another chance. read more
