This was my first time as a customer. Upon walking in, I noticed how poorly their setup is. Although there's a counter behind them, they take your order from behind folding tables. It's not a huge place, so it can easily get crowded with customers waiting for their orders. We weren't in line long, so that was a plus. However, once it was our turn to place our orders, we both said, "Hello, how are you?" She looked at us, turned her head, and said, "What can I get you?" We looked at each other and chuckled. We told her it was our first time here, and she helped us understand how the menu worked, so we placed our order. I ordered the fried whiting, mac & cheese, and green beans. After placing our order, we received a ticket with a number on it and slid over to the left to an older lady (cashier) who seemed to be frustrated or possibly tired. Her attitude wasn't welcoming, but she wasn't mean. She confirmed our order, and then we paid for our food and were told it would take about 25 minutes. We waited in the car until our food was ready. I went back in to get our food, and a gentleman was ahead of me, and he asked one of the staff there, "Who took the orders over the phone?" She said, "I don't know." He said, "They need to work on their customer service skills because to come here to support the business and to be treated like that ain't good." No apology was offered or anything. It assured me that it wasn't just me who felt this way. However, I will return because I enjoyed what I ordered. Give them a try!!! read more

My husband and I ordered takeout from this place-- and we will not be doing that again. What we ordered: Smothered chicken Bbq pork ribs Lima beans Yams Fried okra Mac and cheese Red velvet cake Chocolate cake Cornbread ... literally everything was lacking in flavor, and the cake had a strange aftertaste. The okra was soft and to say it was fried is a stretch. Order: 5 piece whiting and peach cobbler The fish was lightly breaded which is a plus. Most fast seafood chains usually add way too much breading and all you're eating is fried dough. The fish was fried well, crispy outside and inside still moist and juicy. Slightly salty but overall tasty. The peach cobbler on the other hand; trash. Under cooked dough in the cobblers, too sweet, and an overload of cinnamon. Cobbler supposed to look golden and crispy with slices of orange peaches peeping through the cracks of the dough but this looked like mud. Will be back for the fish though. read more

Ordered take out here for the first time on a Saturday for the family. Got meals plus desserts. I have a sweet tooth so I'm starting there. The desserts were the best part of the meal! We got peach cobbler, strawberry cake, and chocolate cake. All tasted like they came straight from my grandmothers kitchen. The strawberry cake was AMAZING!! Like, THE best I've had EVER! And for the portion sizes all reasonably priced at $3.00. For meals we had turkey ribs and dressing, pork chops and mashed potatoes, chicken and waffles, fried chicken wings, cheeseburger and fries. We also got a gallon of lemonade/tea. If you like a lot of sage in your dressing you'd love the dressing. I happen not to like a lot. The cheeseburger was HUGE and reasonably priced. I don't know if they don't use seasonings in order to protect the customer's health or what. If so, I wish they would post a sign stating this. The sides I had were Mac and cheese and potato salad. I think they put garlic salt in their potato salad, it tasted off. I also had a slice of lemon cake... threw it all out after 1 bite of each. I love the food here it is the absolute best!!! But my order is never right!!! I ordered the shrimp dinner with mac & cheese and yams w/ extra shrimp and cornbread. I asked for the shrimp to be broiled for the meal portion and for the extra shrimp I asked for that to be fried. Everything was really good, except for the shrimp on the meal was fried, and then the side broiled and no cornbread. I always seem to have this problem though, something is always wrong on my order! The amount of food, seasoning, and taste were all satisfying. Not too greasy or salty as sometimes fried food can be. The only issue is the take out option via Yelp (EatStreet). After payment, I received an email that the order would be ready in 20 minutes. Then an updated email after 10 minutes, that the order would not be ready for 60 minutes. I then went to the establishment to request a refund - as we were not willing to wait another hour. The collards were so salty that my mouth is burning I can't get enough water. The yams were burnt. The dressing had lumps in it. But we ate the chicken rice and Mac and cheese. There are so many cars trying to enter and exit this tiny parking lot, I swear there must be an accident every day. It was fabulous. I got mac and cheese and baked beans for him. The mac and cheese was very good. The baked beans were just ok. He said the desserts they make in-house are the peach cobbler and egg custard. I got the peach cobbler and didn't really care for it. It had too much cinnamon, and I'm not sure if it was nutmeg or mace, but I don't like either and it tasted like one of them was in there. He said their cakes were made by a lady nearby. I got the red velvet. Sweet baby Jesus. This is one of the best darn cakes I've ever had in my life. The cake alone is worth stopping here. Very casual atmosphere with excellent eats. I am hands down a fan of the fried shrimp here. They are a nice plump size and without all the bread crumbs on it instead they have light batter that they are fried in and they are simply delicious. The mac and cheese is probably some of the best I have had since moving to Charlotte. The sweet potatoes surprised me. I typically enjoy them okay, mostly around holidays or in a pie or simply baked, but these bad boys right here - they were delicious and I couldn't stop eating them. I really also enjoyed the cabbage but would pass on the greens. The fish was pretty good, not the best I have ever had but it was pretty tasty none the less. And I really enjoyed their pig feet, trotters, whatever you want to call them. They were very tender and soft. The fried chicken wings were on point. I saw this place the other day as I was driving by and remembered it today so I decided to to give it a try. I got the fried pork chops (you get two), stewed squash broccoli casserole and corn bread. I enjoyed the entire plate. The chops were seasoned well and fried up well, the stewed squash was done properly just like my mom used to make and the broccoli casserole was good as well. I now want to try other offerings on the menu such as the ox tails. read more
