Whole chickens wings, collard greens, candied yams! Everything was seasoned perfectly, HOT and FRESH. Very friendly staff. I will certainly be back.

Fried pork chops, broccoli casserole, and cornbread Dressing with Gravy

This review is specific to my catering order for Thanksgiving. I've eaten at the restaurant only one time before. I ordered the fried Turkey and cornbread dressing for the holiday. The fried Turkey was a little on the dry side and so was the cornbread dressing. The flavor for both were okay. I loved the food that I purchased before; however, I was disappointed with my catering order.

    Pork chops and mashed potatoes

Ordered take out here for the first time on a Saturday for the family. Got meals plus desserts. I have a sweet tooth so I'm starting there. The desserts were the best part of the meal! We got peach cobbler, strawberry cake, and chocolate cake. All tasted like they came straight from my grandmothers kitchen. The strawberry cake was AMAZING!! Like, THE best I've had EVER! And for the portion sizes all reasonably priced at $3.00. For meals we had turkey ribs and dressing, pork chops and mashed potatoes, chicken and waffles, fried chicken wings, cheeseburger and fries. We also got a gallon of lemonade/tea. If you like a lot of sage in your dressing you'd love the dressing. I happen not to like a lot. The cheeseburger was HUGE and reasonably priced. I think this is my new dessert spot.

Ordered with Postmates and boy! This plate is banging! I got smothered pork chops, fried squash and lima beans. We also got a veggie plate with mac and cheese, broccoli casserole and collards. Literally the only bad thing I have to say is the greens were just very salty (I doctored with hot sauce and vinegar, fine) but everything else? So so good! Can't wait to get to dessert!

    Fat Back

The staff is very friendly and I would rate them a 5 in a scale from 1-5. The food was terrible. I ordered the daily special which was smothered chicken. The food had absolutely no taste to it. I don't know if they don't use seasonings in order to protect the customer's health or what. If so, I wish they would post a sign stating this. The sides I had were Mac and cheese and potato salad. I think they put garlic salt in their potato salad, it tasted off. I also had a slice of lemon cake... threw it all out after 1 bite of each. I did enjoy the mix tea and lemonade and the 5 piece of fat back. I doubt I will be visiting again but again, their customer service is A1.

Fried Chicken, cornbread, Mac & cheese and Collard Greens
    Sarah M.

To start with the good, the Mac & cheese and cornbread were great and something I would order again. However for the bad, the chicken easy dry & flavorless. The collards were also disappointing and flavorless. I had ordered this through Uber eats and was very excited to try their peach cobbler but unfortunately it must've been forgotten at the restaurant :/ overall this is not a place I will return to.

The service was excellent. Now, the food was fire. I ordered the Fried Catfish with Shrimp Creole and honestly, it's the best catfish I've ever eaten in life. Tender, juicy, flavorful, and a delicious crunchy exterior. The Shrimp Creale was excellent as well, incredible seasoning and texture. My son also enjoyed his food, but after tasting my catfish he wished he'd ordered the same thing. We both loved the cornbread as well; it was warm, soft, and the butter just made it even better. I will definitely go back next time I'm in the area.

We weren't disappointed but not overly impressed either. The restaurant was decorated with a lot of historical photos and memorabilia. Our server, Oyebola was ok at best, and we witnessed him being unnecessarily rude and nasty to an unhoused woman who came into the restaurant. But luckily another patron came to her rescue before we could intervene. The food was hot and freshly prepared, but honestly, it wasn't as tasty as we'd hoped. Soul food is hit or miss, but Mert's was good enough though....we had a meal with protein & veggies.
