I have a lot to say about my experience here. I initially went in about a month ago and was not satisfied with my cut, it wasn't bad, but just not what I had hoped for. However, it was my first time meeting the stylist and maybe we just weren't on the same page about what I wanted. Needless to say, I sent an email to the manager and after not being able to come back in for a re-do cut with the same stylist due to schedule conflicts the owner Tina, went above and beyond. She offered to cut my hair (a month later mind you) and was incredibly easy to work with, she cut my hair perfectly and was very knowledgeable about technique and products. She was very kind and I seriously cannot thank her enough for what she did. The fact that this salon bent over backwards not to lose a first time customer speaks volumes and I will definitely return and refer friends and family! read more

Last week I went in to get my hair cut and styled. I had just moved here and this was the second place I've tried since I moved here. Guess I will keep trying places til I find one that will actually cut my hair the way I like it. Erica was my stylist. I thought for 45$ I should get a lot more hair cut. She barely cut it and acted like she was afraid to use the clippers as I lobe my hair pretty short. I have a short hair cut. The cost should not be 45$ and walk out unhappy. Tonight I try another place. All in the same week. So disappointed. read more

KASHMIR is awesome and really pays attention to what you want for your hair. My mom and I have been going to Sunshine for hair coloring and haircuts for over 20 years. We have both gone to Kashmir for at least 5 years, ever since our other hair stylist retired and we are both very happy with her schedule flexibility and her talent. Sunshine Hair Design is a lovely salon and spa. Once in the front door, you know you've gone to the right place! Everyone is so friendly and professional, I was comfortable right away. Luci is my stylist. I have never in my life been given such an intense scalp massage with a hair service. I moved to San Diego 9 years ago and have been searching for the perfect salon for me. Finally, in April of this past year, I tried Sunshine Hair Design and found my place! I was introduced to Teri, where she spent some initial time talking to me and analyzing my hair and options for styles and highlights. I found out from Teri that previous stylists had been using a bleach based color to highlight my hair and it was fried! She used a non bleach products for highlights and I am already seeing an amazing difference in my hair. I have been to see Teri a few times now and she is always telling me tips and techniques, products to use (with no pressure to purchase), and the prices are reasonable. Sunshine also offers many other services, which I haven't used, but will be trying in the near future. read more

What a salon! First went to Sunshine when many of the staff donated their time & services to raise money for the American Cancer Society and got a cut from Luci. Have gone back since and Luci is amazing. She's incredibly knowledgable about product, which worked wonders with my curly hair. Came in on another time for a fun shampoo and style before a fun date night-got compliments all night long. Now my husband and three year old daughter are regulars too. I have LONG thick hair and it is very hard for me to find someone I trust to cut it. I had been going to the same person in the OC for 10 years. I was scared to make the switch once I moved to SD. I trusted YELP and tried Sunshine and Rachel Streeter. She is amazing! I have been going to her for a few years now (not sure why it took me so long to review) and I have never left unsatisfied. I had my hair cut here before going back to school. My hair is fine and thick, and wavy and medium/long. I also have bangs. I was really happy with this haircut when I left the salon but when I got home there were patches of hairspray caked on my hair. The general shape and layering is fine but there is an issue with how the layers were cut. After I washed it, normally I can let my hair just air dry and it will fall perfectly, but this time the layers are cut so bluntly that the ends fray out, not flip out, fray...This is not ideal as I am a very busy student. I tried to blow dry it how I normally do and still had the same problem and had to spend extra time trying to get my ends to curl under nicely like they normally do. To me, a cut isn't good if I can't work with it, or it is tedious to work with. Very frustrated with how much money I spent on this cut and to not be able to work with it. The best thing she did with my hair was she did a good job with my bangs which is hard to find. I have layered side swept bangs that go to the top of my eyebrow. Other stylists might be better. This review is specifically for Hana. I have been going to Hana for a little while now, and everytime she does my hair it is such a pleasant experience. The first time I went to her she was very warm and made me feel very comfortable. I am not usually one for small talk, but Hana is very easy to talk to and is very professional yet fun. On top of that, she is always very respectful of what I ask for. She never pushes me to have something done that I don't want (I have had stylists in the past that try to chop off my hair because even when I say no, or try to push me to buy overpriced products), but rather she recommends options that she thinks will be best for the overall health and look of my hair.I have long hair and she always does a great job at maintaining the length when I need it trimmed. In addition to her awesome personality, she does a great job with my hair. Almost too good, I am always sad when I can't get it to look as good as she makes it look when I style it on my own. I went there because I read the reviews here on yelp. I called the day of and they were able to get me in that day. First impression, the receptionist was very nice and helpful and got me in with Teri. Got there a few minutes early and was able to get started right away. Teri did an AMAZING job and listened to everything I wanted. She did a great job on my long hair! My son has severe anxiety and even a haircut freaks him out. Thankfully we go see Tina who has always been so flexible with him and calm. It took a while, but he now walks in willingly to get his hair cut and will tell Tina how he wants it done. We are at the point where he will even say "mom I think it's time to get my hair cut again." I am so thankful to Tina! So many other places we went just didn't have the patience to work with my son and she has been wonderful, so I highly recommend her. read more

Wonderful place! I have very curly hair which frizzes by the end of the day, and it is really, really difficult to find someone who knows what they are doing when they cut it. (Everyone thinks they are coming up with these fabulous new ideas, but they aren't). Rachel is amazing with my hair--it actually feels healthier and it doesn't frizz unless there's a lot of humidity. She's pricey, but I have a cut AND color each time, so that's probably why. The cut is so good, though, that I don't care, I just budget for it--it's worth every penny. read more

love this salon! Rachel is amazing! I have blonde highlighted hair and she is a color master! I sent my friend to another stylist, Teri and she is thrilled with her hair too. this salon is friendly, not pretentious and you will feel comfortable. it's a hidden gem in poway! The best part about it is that the entire group works as a very cohesive team and it reflects in all of their work - and they all give GREAT head massages during the shampoo! I was new to the area and in need of a cut and color. I found Sunshine hair salon and took a gamble, and it paid off! I was booked with Nicole, and let me tell you, she is amazing!!! I have very culry, long, and thick hair. She is very experienced with my hair type! Nicole gave me a great consult and i felt very comfortable in knowing that she will do a great job!! CHANEL is awesome. I have been going to her for years for my brow wax. She has always been careful to shape but not take too much. As I age my brows are getting thinner and I always wanted to keep as much as I could. When Chanel told me she now offers PERMANENT MAKE UP I told her to sign me up. My brows are amazing!!! I absolutely never cut my hair due to the fact that so many places have a tendency to chop it all off. I was looking for a place that was close to my work and I requested to only have a bang trim. The service was excellent, friendly, and was done in a timely manner. When I went to pay, she told me that bangs are free and that I didn't owe anything. I was shocked, as I have never been to a place that didn't charge for bangs. I left a tip and would definitely go back again. read more
