I wanted to take my dog on his first SUP or kayak adventure. I've been a few times before, but never with a dog. Due to my poor planning, we were on our way to the bay to visit a local competitor's business, when I realized that I needed a reservation. Cue my panic and frantic internet searches, I gave SUP California a call at 3:30pm on a Tuesday in the middle of July (peak season) and they were able to get us two SUP boards. I made payment over the phone and within 15 minutes of the call, they met us exactly where Google maps tells us to be. We signed some liability waivers on their phone and were on our way! They provided us with life jackets, but we had our own for the dog (not sure if they carry dog jackets, so please talk to them before assuming). Overall, it was a great experience, they gave us pointers on where to take off from, areas to explore, and landmarks to look for on our way back. We called them when we were done and within 10 minutes, they were back and collected the items. I had a wonderful time and will gladly recommend them! read more

SUP is a mobile rental shop. I made a same-day reservation and met Ben at the end of Dawne St for an epoxy paddle board rental. Ben was personable, gave me tips on where to go based on the weather conditions, and had excellent customer service. I paid $50 with taxes for the epoxy paddle board (the foam board is $4 cheaper) and got to use it for up to 5hrs. When you're done, you just give them a call, and they meet you within 10-15min to pick up the equipment. I highly recommend SUP, and I would use them again! read more

My friend and I came to San Diego mid-June to visit and last minute decided we wanted to paddle board. However a lot of locations already had rented out all of their paddle boards and it was already pretty late in the afternoon (4pmish). We called SUP and the owners were so nice they let us rent out 2 paddle boards and even held our stuff for us while we were paddle boarding. They even offered to let us use the equipment for an extra 30minutes. I HIGHLY recommend renting from here I can not reiterate. Plus the location is really nice if you want to have a chill beach day with friends. There's a lot of volleyball courts on the sand too if you want to play. I would 11/10 come back again. Had a fantastic experience here for my first time trying SUP! We called last minute and were able to get rentals asap. They texted us an address to meet at that was close to the beach and they brought the boards down to the water for us. Plenty of free street parking in the neighborhood which was really convenient. Great location for first time SUPers. You can go anywhere in the mission bay, which is a pretty large bay. Great weather and water isn't too choppy at all, even in the winter (we came in February - gotta love California!) We used the Yelp deal for $30 for all day paddle board rental. AMAZING DEAL! I believe normal rates are $45 for all day rental and $35 if you purchase ahead of time online. We were told to paddle for as long as we wanted and just call/text around 30 minutes before we wanted to leave for them to pick up the boards. Payment was afterwards as well. Overall, an awesome, fun experience. Great quick and hassle free rental process. Highly recommend this place for any SUPing you may want to do in San Diego. read more

So convenient - if you've ever had to carry a SUP any distance, even on wheels, you know it can get heavy really quickly. And for kids it can be impossible. So having Zeke bring the boards right to the water's edge is such a great service! He was there on time, is very responsive to any queries and is fast to come pickup. So glad I checked Yelp to find a place to rent a paddle board. After reading some of the reviews from some of the "big guys" it seemed like I'd have to carry and clean off my own equipment. Since I'm a little lady, carrying an SUP board an unknown distance is not something I want to get into. Saw all the great reviews for Zeke and $35 for all day rental and was sold. I was a little confused as to where to get the board, but Zeke found me at the appointment time and took care of getting the board out to the water for me. I wished I could've stayed out longer, but next time I'm in San Diego, I'll definitely rent from Zeke again! So usually I am suspicious of anything with so many five star reviews, but they are all genuinely deserved. Ben made it incredibly easy to get the boards. I called, showed up 5 minutes later and 10 minutes after that I was in the water! We were worried the boards wouldn't fit in the car, but Ben helped us secure them (some pretty sick knot skills) for our 5 block journey to the water. No pesky hourly rates, a very reasonable flat fee and we could bring them back after 5pm, which was a concern with other shops that closed early. We are sort of picky when it comes to quality and customer service, and Ben and SUP California did it for us! We were renting in Mission Beach near 3 other equipment rental businesses on the bay. When we looked at reviews, they all had some great reviews, but they also had some horrible reviews, especially about customer service, terrible attitudes and horrible equipment. But we could only find 216 positive reviews about Ben and SUP. In fact, they were all 5-star reviews, and form our experience, Ben deserves every one of them. He was super-fun, appropriately professional, and still laid-back, kind, generous and patient. He took time to deliver and carry our boards down to the water, and he showed our girls how to use them. We especially appreciate that he gave us safety tips on a windy day, suggesting landmarks and best practices for a fun and safe afternoon. There is almost too many positive things to say about SUP California! It was mine and my sisters first time paddle boarding in San Diego and I choose this place because of its great reviews and holy cow did they not disappoint! We were greeted with smiles and truly down to earth folks who were so courteous to my sister and myself! They are very educated and helpful when it comes to staying safe out there on the water and gave us very helpful tips to keep us safe! While I was paddle boarding, I made the silly mistake of letting my paddle fall off of my board while taking pictures and it disappeared into the bay... but when I told the two amazing employees (sorry I forgot your names!) who helped us in the beginning what happened, they were super chill about it and we worked out a deal to replace the paddle I lost and they happily gave me a new one that I protected with my life!
