We loved the entirely flat and well-paved trails along Mission Bay San Diego. We booked a pair of beach cruiser bikes from Cheap Rentals. At just $15 for an entire day, it doesn't get much cheaper than this. The bike path is located just minutes from the shop. The bike trail has plenty of bathrooms along the way. Best of all, it's virtually impossible to get lost. Just keep the water on your right the entire way as you ride the roughly 12-mile trail past SeaWorld and other fun spots. Before heading back for the day, be sure to ride by Belmont Park (with its rickety, teeth-rattling wooden roller coaster) and the waterfront boardwalk. You'll have plenty of people watching -- plus test your biking abilities as you navigate the madness. An hour was perfect time for us, and we rode around the bay for some good views and nice wind. Ladies, Do a Yelp check in for a free basket to hold your purse. They also provide a lock and key in case you want to stop somewhere and lock your bikes up. These are beach cruisers so no handlebar brakes (you have to back pedal to brake) just FYI. I found the best deal here in the SD beach cities on a bike rental. For less than $50 I got one week on the most popular beach cruiser bike. The bike is a brand new one by American Bicycles. It is really comfortable, rides very smoothly and I got the sturdy u lock to keep it very secure. I also got really nice Australian beach shorts and a pocket smart phone charger. CP also has paddleboard, kayak, wetsuit and rollerblade rentals which I also want to try out. The Malibu Kayaks are the nicest I've ever seen. They also sell really cool looking, floating wood framed sunglasses, go pros, sandals and shirts. The Staff is amazing and Jason adjusted my bike seat for me so it fit perfectly and gave me great local biking tips. I found this place after checking out several other shops I wasn't happy with due to charging excessively with bad terms and poor customer service. This is the best bike rental shop I've ever been to, no question about it. read more

The employees explained everything I needed to know and were very helpful. Also, we had a coupon from a local magazine that they honored with no problems. Not the best customer service, but their prices are very cheap! $9 for the whole day for bike rentals. There were some spots on PB that charges that much per hour! $20/per hour or $40 for paddle boards for the entire day. Be careful though--you will end up paying $800 for a paddle board if you damage or lose it! It didn't happen to me---I just had to sign a waiver saying I would if I did. ;-) Oh, and they have used bikes/boards for sale as well. read more

I visit San Diego a couple times a year and the last three trips my friends and I have enjoyed riding beach cruisers along the board walk. We've been renting beach cruisers and in line skates from Cheap Rentals Mission Beach. Pros: The guys who work here are really friendly. The beach cruisers and in line skates are durable but a bit beat-up; we didn't have to treat the rentals like I've rented a glass vase. (Don't be *ssh**** an purposely treat the rentals badly.) The beach cruisers and in line skates work. They have one kids bike with training wheels (call ahead to reserve). The price isn't expensive. You can reserve rentals ahead for a discount. The shop is easy to find. Cons: The beach cruisers and in line skates are durable but a bit beat-up; the bikes creaked a bit and the skates didn't have the best breaks. The website to rent isn't easy to use. I will personally continue to rent from them when I visit San Diego's Mission Beach and Boardwalk. read more

Booked online 3 days in advance. There is no "all day option," so it defaulted to their supposed open & close times. I received an email confirmation immediately for Monday 9am-6:30pm. Showed up for pickup late around 930 (parking is a challenge) & was told they don't open until 10. Explained I had an email confirmation of a reservation starting at 9. Just received a blank stare and was told again they don't open til 10. Left and returned. Teenage girl working-not polite or friendly. Despite having my credit card info already because I paid online, I had to leave my ID with them all day...not a copy-the actual ID. When we returned early to turn bikes in, no one was to be found. Had to knock on windows and doors until someone finally came. Same young female who again was not very polite. Want to love this place. Understand we all have bad days...but....? I love this place. When I visit MB I make sure to rent from cheap rentals. The staff has always been nice and helpful. They usually have anything I need in stock to rent however if it is a busy day put down a reservation by phone. They do require a credit card or debit with visa to use in case you don't come back with your rental. When you are done you can either pay cash or by credit card for your rental. I've rented from other places but this one is so close to where I like to body board and the prices are pretty cheap for the area. read more

We were charged $80 for the two bikes, which is the amount charged for 4 days. Also, the prices online do not match the prices posted and charged at the shop. We rented 2 hybrid bikes for 4 days with plans of biking throughout the area, thinking hybrids would be better than cruisers in quality and for hill climbing. The bikes were not in even decent shape, the first bike we were given had no brakes attached and the bake gear/wheel was also not connected. The 2 bikes we did take were not good either, would double shift, shift while going uphill/pedaling hard which can cause you to get off balance very quickly. Just did not feel safe at all on these bikes. They did refund our 4 day bike rental a couple days ago, which helps, but frustrating experience still. read more

A couple months ago I reserved 16 bikes for my best friend's bachelor party and Cheap Rentals was happy to accommodate. In fact, they gave me special group pricing for the 24 hours we were going to be renting. Located in the heart of Mission Beach, it's a convenient walk from anywhere (assuming you're staying in MB) so, it makes for a good spot when trying to herd 16 guys to walk there. Our bikes were ready upon arrival and they came with enough locks for the gang. The staff was quick, friendly and knew exactly who we are when we arrived. If it's one thing I can't stand it's lost reservations so, props there. All single speed "beach cruisers", they were perfect for our soon to be Mission Beach pub crawl and we were on our way. 24 hours later, the returning of our bikes was just as easy as renting. The staff was super cool and casual about a lost bike key (only cost us $5) so, thanks for understanding. In fact, it was a miracle that we only lost one. That being said, if you ever find yourself in Mission Beach and need a bike, I'd say rent from here. Thanks again! read more

Excellent place to go for a bike rental. $5 per hour, per bike. $10 flat rate for anything above one hour and below four. Price includes helmet. Must leave a credit card as a safety deposit in case you don't return their gears. Super friendly and laid back staff. We rented two bikes and missed the $5 rate by half an hour (so returned bike after 1.5 hours of use) and they were nice enough to give us the hour rate for each bike. I am not a surfer. No, really. The ONE time I tried, I didn't just get pounded by waves-- I got rolled over, pushed over, and totally drank half the ocean. Seriously. [We're not really in a drought; I just went surfing.] BUT IF I DID SURF, I'd come here at all times. I was introduced to this place by a friend, and not only are the prices RIDICULOUSLY good, but the staff is really nice, matter-of-fact, and helpful. My first [and only] time out, they even gave me a how-to-surf packet to read while some friends were getting ready. [Note: It didn't help, but that's not the packet's fault.] It's a small venue and everything's packed in. Actually, if I wasn't looking for this place, I'd probably bypass it [much like Diagon Alley from HP]. This place would probably make my germaphobe aunt freak, but I thought it was fine. No rashes from my wetsuit, everything seems well-maintained, and it's a quiet but friendly store. Even when I didn't clean something properly or every time I didn't know something, the staff gladly answered my questions and explained to me the right way of doing things. Have I been to other surf shops? Not seriously. But am I fairly convinced that this place is just as good if not better. It might not be bigger or as fancy, but it's got the basics and a really helpful staff. I also came trooping in once with a bunch of random asian kids, two of whom are from Georgia, and on a day that was fairly cold. We took up nearly the entire shop milling around, but the girl at the counter was way nice and chatted us up while we waited for the last person in our party to arrive. In general, to a girl who knows nothing about surfing or beach culture, this place was a really great, unpretentious venue that really sought to help me out. Love it. read more
