This was the worst experience staying at a hotel I have ever had. My fiance and I were just staying…read morefor one night. We got in at 3:00 a.m.. one of the cleaners accidentally came into the room around 7:45 a.m. and woke us up early. Check out is 11:00 a.m. mind you. We had an errand to run and we stopped by the front desk to say that we got woken up super early and wanted to see if they would give us a slightly later checkout time. I said to the woman at the counter that we had an errand to run and would be back. They took my phone number so that the manager could call me with a possible resolution . I left to take care of the errond around 9:15 or so and was back at the hotel before 10:00 a.m. when we got back they were cleaning our room and had already dumped out a bottle of alcohol that we had left there. I went to the front desk understandably upset and asked to speak to a manager. The same front desk agent that was there before told me she thought we were checking out and that's why the room was cleaned. I've been in customer service a long time and when my business does something wrong we do something for the customer. This front desk agent just wanted to say sorry and get us out on our way and say that the manager was unable to approve and extended stay for us. However it was still well before the checkout time of 11:00 a.m. when the manager finally showed I explained the situation and she just kind of nodded her head and said sorry. Didn't offer any type of compensation. My fiance came over to speak and he did so in a Stern voice but was by no means yelling. They accused him of yelling and he said are you saying that because I'm black. Boy did they go off after that and this was three white women. They started yelling at us saying oh I have black people in my family I'm Irish and we were the first slaves I bet you didn't know that. I have been screamed at at my job before and I have never returned that same energy. To have a manager speak to us like that was just insane. To make matters worse I go get my phone because I want to ask for their names and write it down. The manager then accuses me of recording them and threatens to call the police. Being that my fiance is black and the police don't have the best history I decided to leave. I hate to tell people they shouldn't go to a place but honestly if you're African American I would not recommend this hotel. I will be contacting the corporate office of course and the crazy thing is it was less than $100 for the room they could have easily refunded it and it would have not been an issue. I assume seriously hope that Holiday Inn looks into this because we were not treated right. I will spend the extra money to stay at the Hilton anytime I'm down in the area

A special shout out to the kind lady that is in charge of getting the breakfast ready. I really wish I could remember her name. But she goes the extra mile in providing breakfast before the posted times. This is huge for those who have to leave in the morning before they start serving breakfast. My stay has been for 2-3 nights on average. The hotel is also conveniently located in the heart of town. With a number of restaurants and a big grocery store right down the street.

The hotel is supposedly dog friendly and we paid an extra $75 dog fee upon arrival. I called the hotel and spoke to Janine and asked her if we could have a room on the first floor, non allergic pillows and if the dogs were allowed to stay in the room while we went out. The answer was yes. Our dalmation is very well behaved and we have left her for short periods like while we were having dinner. Last year we traveled across the country and never had a problem. So last night the family had a pre graduation dinner on St. George's Island. We were finished around 8:30 and as I was leaving I got a call from the hotel that Freckles was barking. We were on our way back and about an hour away. Then I got another call while we were driving. It took us an hour to get back and I apologized. I never want to upset other patrons at a hotel. By the way, the room was on the third floor, not the first as we asked for. So we were not allowed to leave Freckles today and I missed the graduation. I was broken hearted bc we had just traveled two days to get here. The night before we were in a La Quinta Inn in Selma, North Carolina. This hotel was loaded with dogs and they barked on and off but no problem. So maybe this Hilton Inn should advertise "bark-less dogs". Or at lat least put them in an area where they wouldn't bother anyone. We're spending another night here because we already paid for the room. Freckles will come with us everywhere. Fortunately there are many restaurants with patio seating. Unfortunately we couldn't bring her to graduation- my loss. PS. The staff and breakfasts were excellent! They even let us bring Freckles to the other side of the lobby so we could have breakfast. They brought the food to us! Thank You!

After a very pleasant check in, we got our travel bags into our room, which was very clean and comfy. We had a brief visit to the hotel bar, where we received a very good recommendation for a breakfast spot the next morning. After breakfast, we hit the pool area. We had sunscreen, water and snacks. The pool area was very clean and members of the staff came out periodically to check the water, clean out debris, etc. They even asked if we needed some bottles of water! Everyone we came in contact with at this hotel was wonderful. We definitely will come back when we need a little vacation from home.

The Inn at Tacaro Estate has a lot going for it. The mansion exudes old world charm from an era…read morethat I can only read about in books and magazines. It is a magnificent estate home in a storybook setting. The man who built the home, Taylor Chewning, owned a large brick foundry and that is evident throughout the grounds. The mansion itself is brick, many of the walkways are brick, the extensive stables are brick. This brick added to the almost palatial feeling of the Inn. The view from the front lawn (and from the back lawn actually) put us both at ease; it is a place to sit and read - completely relaxing. The Inn allows us to step out of the hectic and crowded life we have in the city; it transports us to rolling lawns, the smell of fresh grass, beautiful views of the Chesapeake Bay. For a short weekend trip away from DC, it was a nice way to unwind. However, there are things about the Inn that keep it from being five - or even four - star. I get that the bathrooms are original to the house, vintage and keeping with the ambiance of the mansion (which was originally built in 1940). That is interesting but, for me, when I am treating myself to a weekend away, I want a modern bathroom with modern features. I want a walk-in shower, 2 sinks, a separate toilet room. The 1940's style of the bathroom was a complete let-down for me. Now, I knew it would be like this because the pictures on the Inn's website showed the bathroom. So, I was not surprised. But, staying there for a weekend emphasized that the world of design, particularly in bathrooms, has progressed a lot - I bet even the Chewnings (original owners) would not put up with the current state of these bathrooms. There was plenty of room in our suite to expand the bathroom and renovate it into a modern, first-rate spa-like oasis. If the Inn wishes to up its game, it will have to do that. Likewise, there were smaller cues that reflected a lack of modernization and elegance. Poorly hung wallpaper, mis-matched furniture perhaps purchased from yard sales, electric cords handing loosely all over our room, outdoor furniture that is not in great condition, windows that are dirty and paint peeling here and there. The Inn at Tacaro Estate misses being a 1st class destination because the little things are not up to par. The service is also lacking. They try but, like some of the facilities, they miss the mark here. My overall lasting impression of the Inn at Tacaro Estate is rather like Blanche Dubois from Streetcar Named Desire. Old world charm and elegance trying to remain swanky but actually run-down and not maintained, failing to meet current standards of hospitality. The beautiful dress that Blanche wore as a young girl in high society is now tattered and torn here and there. I can appreciate the posh clothing from another time but I also recognize that it is old and weathered. The owners have a very special piece of land and a beautiful home here. But they need to bite the bullet, spend the money and upgrade the finishes, the furniture and the service if they hope to make the Inn a real upscale destination. In the 1940's, I am certain that this mansion exuded money and upper-class refinement. However, for my stay here in the 2020's, it is more of a historical glimpse of pre-WWII society. I am willing to pay for luxury and that is what I want for a weekend away. But Tacaro Estate simply does not provide luxury. For these reasons, I cannot recommend a stay at the Inn at Tacaro Estate. I hate to give this place this tepid review. However, I feel that I am being honest.

When we checked-in we learned that there were three weddings happening that weekend. The people working the front desk were beyond kind and helpful. We ended up with a highway view room, but we didn't mind because there were enough common spaces to see the water. We had a delicious lunch at Fisherman's Crab Deck next door. My dad then picked us up at the docks at this Hyatt on his boat which was so easy an amazing. The room itself was just what we needed. It even had a pull out couch. The only complaint was that the bathroom didn't have a fan and steamed up really quickly and the AC was a bit weaker than expected. The water pressure was really strong and nice. It was enough space for four people for a night. Parking was easy to find. And the morning breakfast had a lot of great options. I especially loved that they had oak milk. I would stay at this Hyatt Place again and recommend it!

Window of the the water with a great view from our room. Room was neat and bed was comfortable. Stayed for the weekend, breakfast both days was good. French toast, eggs and sausage morning one. Morning two eggs or pumpkin pancakes. Both were great. Only negative was the shower in our room. It was a stall shower, which we knew, but the water pressure was terrible. It also took about 10 minutes to come to a warm temp, I felt bad running the water that long. All and all great stay. I'd 100% suggest this place for a weekend getaway.

Before we left I planned a surprise sailing cruise for my fiancé and Aida left a sweet note about the gift from me and vouchers for complimentary gelato around the corner for us. She is so accommodating even when a few little things didn't go as planned for us. (Car trouble, weather... not her doing at all but she made them easier to manage.) She has great suggestions for what to do in St. Michael's. Breakfast was set up beautifully in the morning and cooked to order. Portions were huge if you wanted them. We are lighter eaters and once I told her that she gave us perfect smaller portions, but if you want a big breakfast you will not be disappointed here. The inn only has about eight rooms, and each is different. Ours was very comfortable with flowers, art and antiques wherever I looked. There's central air and the softest towels I think I've ever used. She lets you keep stuff in the fridge and even said we could use her laundry when my fiancé sat on something and messed up his pants. We had leftovers when we needed to leave and she gave us a styrofoam cooler to take with us... that will be used a lot this summer, I'm sure. The location is walking distance to most things in town, so while there is off street parking, we walked most of the time. You can't go wrong here with Aida's Victoriana Inn! Note, though, a lot of businesses and restaurants in town are operating at partial capacity or reduced hours, or are closed due to Covid 19. This has nothing to do with the Victoriana Inn, but it is worth calling ahead if you have specific things you want to do while in town to make sure they're available. We had to shift some dining plans but it was a last minute getaway and we didn't care all that much. It a worked out but if you have your heart set on something, check in advance to make sure you'll be able to do it.
