So close to a five star review, the food was amazing, customer service was great. Everything was freshly made and amazing but I have to deduct one star. You cannot serve tostadas that come from the store out of a bag. They're simply not that good. You guys make the taco shells for the dorado tacos. Do the same for the tostadas that come with pozole. I was so close to giving five stars, but the taste of the tostada out of a bag just isn't good. Homemade tostada would've been so much better. Food: the red posole is simply amazing! The fifth star is missing for just three reasons: no guacamole, no Swiss enchiladas, no Mexican coke - and terrible hours... this is the perfect late night food but it closes a bit early in the evening. The really spicy red stew (I forget if it's pork or beef), is my favorite thing here, it's amazing. I do have one gripe with this place, and it's their flour tortillas. Craving chilaquiles this morning and found this place was less than a mile away. It is definitely a neighborhood spot. Luckily they have a small parking lot on the side otherwise it would be street parking and walking. Very spacious inside and clean. Lots of seating and not too crowded for a Sunday morning. They have coffee in a pot ready to serve up, which I liked. It's buffet style with lots of meats, appetizers, beans and rice. We got our plates to-go but the empanadas looked good so I got one with cheese one with meat. Not as crispy as they looked. As for when we got home, the chilaquiles were good, not great. Kind of soggy by the time we got home but the eggs were fresh. Much cheaper than elsewhere and not too long to wait. If you're in the neighborhood, stop by and support a local business. I have driven by many times, and have read great things, but I haven't had the chance to stop by until recently. I was actually going to Canada, but it was really crowded, so why not try something new. Parking is street or if you're there after 6, there are some spaces behind the market. Friendly greeting when I walked in, I didn't know what to order. Looked over the menu boards and I remembered reading they had mole. So I asked and ordered the plate to go with rice and beans. I also ordered a chicken burrito for a friend. The chicken was really tender and the sauce was delicious. The chicken burrito was very good too. It too was filled with rice and beans and huge! But I have gone to the location a few times. we order the enchiladas with cheese, pozole, tacos, and chilaquiles. All soo good. Prices are reasonable. The plates come with rice and beans and the red salsa is good. I have been referred to this spot by many people for pozole. I am picky when it comes to pozole, I prefer homemade. But when I craved it once I ordered it and now its a part of every order. The other food we try reminds me of the way my grandma used to make them. From the enchiladas to the hard shelled tacos! I decided to try Super Cocina again and it was no bueno. Soggy chile relleno. Also, a new and amazing version of a chile relleno= NO CHEESE IN THE CHILE!!! ??? I asked the girl if I could have shredded lettuce and crema on the chile. She said yes, but it was no. Next I asked for a small of some pork in a spicy sauce. The sauce was good, only I said "pork" and she said, " yes", that's what's in the sauce. Get it home: it's all knuckle, fat, grizzle. ,,....great. The chili poblanos in the sour cream was decent except that they didn't have it properly stored within a hot insert, so it was just sitting out looking lifeless. Ok, I did order a small, and nuked it when I got home, it was B- / ok. She never properly shut the container to the chile relleno, so it was leaking everywhere and pooling in the bag - soon to get all over my vehicle : []... She put the onion and cilantro, two containers with no lids. Great! Were you raised in a barn??? Honestly, the whole thing was a $21 dollar disaster. Sad: when the father ran it the chile rellenos where fresh, they had cheese in them! They had a slightly crisp / recently cooked texture with a good ranchero sauce. Not any more. The place was. I had a nice crowd. The food is cafeteria style, and the options seemed a little limited. The presentation left a little to be desired, and you had to bus your own food to the table and fill your own drinks. As it was my first time there, I had to ask a lot of questions, and the staff wasn't very helpful. This is very much a self-serve restaurant with no-frills. They do not offer anything without charging for it. I was served rice and beans with Braised pork rib tips that had a very small bit of meat on them. I thought I had gotten the pork chunks. The staff failed to explain to me what they were. And when I asked the staff, is this what the plate included? She said you have to order two entrees. Believing that this was the case I did so even if I only wanted one. After I have completed my order, I realized I could have only had one entree, the rice and beans and saved four dollars. For the second entree, she recommended the beef with cactus, and so I chose that. My plate came with three corn tortillas in a separate back, which was nice. When I got to the table, I sat down and the food was lukewarm at best. The chili concarne pork rib tips were somewhat spicy, but had no flavor whatsoever and they had more cartilage than meat. Which made them really unsavory. The beef and nopales was just as bland and I did not enjoy it. However the beef was very tender. The beans and Rice were standard, but again, they were quite bland and not what I would have expected given the reviews of this restaurant. The corn tortillas were warm, soft and delicious. My plate was $18 plus tax, which made it about $20. For $20, it was not worth the trip to go and visit this place. You can do a lot better at any location named ending with bertos. The restaurant is small and gives you Mexican barrio vibes, the abuelas and abuelos are there eating their pozole and catching up on the chisme. They have all the food laid out, so you can easily see what you want to order. I ordered the plate with 2 antojitos and guisado for $15.99. I thought it would be cheaper to be honest, but this is pretty average for San Diego. I had the carnitas, beef taco, empanada. Overall, everything was good the serving size is pretty is reasonable, but the empanada is the one that I would not re-order. It was purely masa and it barely had any meat. As a strong hater of cafeteria style food (I won't even go to Chipotle) this is the only place that I make an exception for. I'm going to have to dock points because it's usually hot as hell in there and there's flies but the food is so good I try not to see the flies on purpose. It's really been a problem because in the area it's fly Central you can't really stop it. Every time I come back to San Diego, I secretly wish we pass by this area of town so I can come and grab a bowl. Environment - fun and simple mom and pop restaurant. The food is visible in the back where your eyes can feast first. There has been seating both indoors and outdoors ever since the pandemic. Service - everyone is soooo nice! I saw some customers taking a long time with their orders but the workers were sooo helpful! Food - I come for the Pozole so I HIGHLY recommend. It's not oily like other restaurants make it and the pork is super tender. I have also gotten the tacos dorados which was okay. And a beef empanada which was good!
