I'm usually a black-bean only kind of gal, and Super Cuca is black-bean-free, however, they're pinto's are incredible. I had the "diet" burrito, which was stuffed with abnormally large, lucious wedges of avocado. The chicken is grilled to flavorful perfection and the salsa is fresh and smoky. It's not cheap - burritos are about $5-8, but a burrito is easily 2 meals. Well worth a foodcentric roadtrip. read more

I visited my baby cousin at UCSB and told her I'd take her to eat something she craved most from outside campus. She said carne asada fries (further evidence of our blood relation) & Yelp'd Super Cuca's. Thank you Yelpers for leading us to this gold mine where I had the BEST carne asada fries(~$10ish). I've had carne asada fries at many places now and Super Cuca's was amazing-- Why? Because their meat was so flavorful and seasoned so well! The fries are crunchy against cooked meat and the cool guac, sour cream, salsa & cheese. We were so in love with it that we ended up getting 2 orders... We headed to Super Cucas on a Sunday afternoon and I drove right past it. This location is sort of hard to find, hidden right before the over pass. I ordered the veggie tacos and it was pretty good -- the only weird thing is that the tortillas were on the bottom of all the veggies making it impossible to actually eat a "taco". The portion was pretty large. My friends ordered a carnitas nachos -- very good with guacamole and sour cream, and a pork plate which was pretty good too and it was also a huge portion. The price was affordable and the taste authentic. Overall, it's not a bad choice if you're hankering for mexican food. read more

If you're hungry and want a delicious, authentic burrito the size of your HEAD then go here! Everything is great about Super Cuca's. It would be improved if they had lenga among their meats. Or if they could do a fried fish burrito/taco instead of just shrimp to appease the seafood audience. Pretty tasty, authentic Mexican food available to your average consumer. They do give a good amount of portion if you are very hungry. They have a little meat market inside as well in case you want to grab some meat on your way out. They have fountain soda or bottled drinks, whatever you may like. I like their Super Nachos the most because they are so packed with ingredients that it makes you want to keep on going. I am also into their Asada torta a bit as well. The fact that I come from a Hispanic family that I can't give this place a 5 only because my family makes it better. Goddamn. Giant chunks of avocado, insanity beans, A+ red sauce, B+ green sauce...you cannot leave Cuca's disappointed. The daily specials -- especially the (Tuesday?) breakfast burrito with eggs, avo, potatoes and cheese -- are so comedically cheap it sort of negates any other food you can have for sub-$5. I recently moved closer to Super Cucas. I was looking forward to their food thinking of the Super Cucas of my youth. I was very disappointed with what I received. I asked for a Take Out order of the Carne Asada Super Plate with Pico. With tip it was $15. What I received was was a handful of carne, a handful of beans and a plate full of rice with some cheese on top and 2 flour tortillas. Probably cost them less than a $1 for everything. No Pico, no onions or cilantro. Very disappointed especially for $15. Should be called SubPar Cucas. When I was going to college in SB, everyone was all about the Freebirds burritos. But anyone who anything about Mexican food knew that Cucas was the real burrito king. Came by for lunch on a recent trip to SB and was surprised to find a new location. A few blocks away from DP, Cucas is now located where the old Korean joint Little Asia used to be. Sure the location is new, but the food is just as good. The breakfast burritos and the esteemed California burrito are the stuff of legends - many late drunken nights and early hungover mornings were graced with these fine species of burrito. Tried the shrimp burrito for the first time this trip and was impressed too! The service, unfortunately, was mediocre. They ran out of horchata and pico de gallo when I was there, and the server was pretty slow. He was pretty young though, not like the older dudes who used to run the older location. This place is the BEST! One of my top 10 reasons to love SB. Huge, fresh cooked portions arrive hot when you get home from take out. My shrimp burrito is always filled with plump, perfectly cooked shrimp, wife loves the veggie burrito and eats the second have at work the next day; massive and tasty quesadillas for the kids. I like the food here better than the mesa and IV locations, which I find a little blander. Always comes with tons of yummy green and red pre-packed salsa (no annoying bar), and they have never messed up an order. Pure perfection. read more

Ah, Super Cuca's.... I miss you. I ate here at least 3 times a week when my partner lived on San Pascal 8 years ago, and then pretty regularly when we moved to Kowalski street. Every trip home to SB involves a stop here to Cuca's. Very reasonable prices - the food is excellent: I have had many things on the menu, but lately have been addicted to the Super Nachos, no meat. My brother loves their Carne Asada Torta, my mom loves the Chicken tostadas, and ... well its just all good. I also get a large hortchata, and do a little shop for Mexican spices while I am waiting for my food. So, inexpensive. More standard Mexican fair than Tex-Mex or California Style Mexican food, quick service (no wait staff) order at front, pick up at side window. Their salsa verde is the bomb. Huge portions... I have never left there hungry, and have usually had leftovers. The parking lot is atrocious, and I recommend parking elsewhere and walking over. read more

Went here because everyone raves about Super Cucas's but honestly it's whatever to me. I got the bacon breakfast burrito and a horchata so maybe the food I got wasn't a very accurate measure how dank the food is there. Hate to say it, because the staff is so nice, but I'm nonplussed with this place. I'll start I love the fact that everything here is prefixed with the word super- super nachos, super quesadilla, super burrito with super carne asada. Only super it is not. The breakfast burrito I got a couple weeks back and some wet egg action going on #NoDice. I got a quesadilla the other night and it had so much meat that every time I picked the darn thing up, meat spilled out. Not a great cheese to meat ratio. In addition the queso doesn't come sour cream and guac, ouch. It's going to be a while before I come back which is a shame because I live right by this place. Maybe I didn't order the right thing... I don't know. I was just expecting more flavor. I got a veggie breakfast burrito and the veggies were tasty but nothing great. We sat outside which was pleasant. Unfortunately the bathroom (consisting of one toilet) was extremely backed up (TP piled up high in the toilet so you know it had been like that for a while). I indicated this to the employees inside they said they would take care of it. Why don't customers speak up when there's something wrong like this? I can't help but like this place. The parking is horrible but when you can get a spot your golden! Its a super locals joint with some of the tastiest meat I have come across at any place. The chick is marinaded in some magical elixir (sorry for going nerd on you) and it absolutely delicious. I recommend getting the quesadilla because its one of the largest of its kind. I don't know where they buy the tortillas because when you get the 'dilla' it looks like a baby is wrapped up inside. I like to get chicken and pastor (marinated pork) inside and it is the best combination I have had. The one bummer about it is that all the meat is just plopped into the middle of the burrito rather than spread evenly which is what I would like to see. read more

The super quesadillas and burritos could probably feed 3 grown folks--no lie. They certainly are not stingy with loading on the ingredients! Food is made to order and it comes out fast. Good prices. It's a greasy, divey joint, yes, but you don't need a song and dance with all your meals right? You place your order at the counter and pick it up at a window. Easy enough! Recently stopped in for lunch during a weekend trip to Santa Barbara with friends. Between us we sampled several of the tacos and burritos. This is a small, dive-y place, half grocery and half drive-in-style restaurant. The food is inexpensive and portions are generous, especially the burritos. My friend said the pork burritos were "amazing" and quite memorable. The burritos ranged from good to mediocre. I had the carne asado, and felt that while the fillings were good and fresh (but too much rice), the meat itself was substandard. Not only did it entirely lack any typical carne asado flavor (no grilled taste at all, for example), the quality was low - it was very gristly on top of lacking flavor. The other burritos received similar if slightly better reviews from my friends, but none were exceptional. If I returned I would order the tacos and skip the burritos. read more
