I'm a new runner training for a half-marathon, and this was the perfect store to get my running shoes and gear. They spent so much time with me testing out various shoes, letting me run around outside, and making sure I had the best fit. They answered all my questions and then some, and explained things I didn't know about running shoes. No pressure to buy the most expensive shoe, and the associate even told me I could bring them back in a couple of weeks if they weren't working out for me. Running around Green Lake and realized my sore foot was likely due to my shoes so I ran right into Super Jock 'n Jill had them grab me my faithful Brooks Adrenaline shoes, didn't have my credit card, they let me just run home in the mew shoes and I phoned back with my credit card. Really great and personal service by people who want you to be happy with your purchase. I had the tiniest mix-up with a pair I ordered online for in-store pickup. When I got to the store near closing time to pick them up, the staff member I spoke to apologized for the error (which was not his fault, just a fluke) and he immediately fixed the problem. I was impressed that he did the right thing, and was very gracious about it. As it happened, I really needed the pair of shoes that day. I so appreciate Super Jock 'N Jill! Have bought shoes there for my husband, my teens, and myself. Every time we get so much personal care. Their policy of ordering shoes for you to try (not always buy) is super generous. Usually we end up buying shoes, but the few times we have not, the staff has never made us feel badly about it. I came to write this review because we ended up going to a close local competitor for my daughter's really hard to fit feet and, wow, what a different experience. Incredibly helpful staff! Someone met us right away even though it was clearly busy. The service was personalized as an employee asked questions about our needs and watched us run. She quickly identified our running movements and lead us to shoes that would best fit our stride. Like most things, when you find it, no need to look further. Despite knowing some of the staff personally, I have worked with many random others and all are friendly and knowledgeable, with the same goal in mind - to get you into the proper running shoe without pressure. They carry a variety of products that you would expect from a running store and I always walk out knowing I'm getting quality brands and items. In the almost 14 years of running, I have purchased most of my running shoes from SJJ Greenlake and Redmond. You are encouraged to run in their shoes outside before buying if you wish and their return policy (although I have never had to return anything) is no fuss. I've always driven by this store, and it popped into my head when my knees started hurting from running in cross trainers. I found an excellent store that had both prices to match amazon and customer service you can't get over the internet. I found out how important it is to try before you buy your running shoes. Online product reviews can't tell you how they will feel on your feet! Phil at the Greenlake location really set me up good. He immediately offered me help, which was much appreciated with my lack of knowledge. He watched me walk and then jog across the store to observe how my feet hit the ground, then instantly got three or four sets meant for my gait for me to try on. He had me matched up with the perfect set (specifically recommended it over the more expensive pair) after less than 15 minutes of his undivided attention. My husband and I recently got into running and have a 5k coming up in a few weeks. I bought a pair of shoes from another store that ended up being way too tight, and prior to that have been wearing the same no-name brand workout shoes since about 2005. I loved my experience at this store! I thought it'd be crazy busy being a Sunday afternoon, but we were immediately helped by Kirby. He gave us individual attention for about an hour. The store was filled with staff, so everyone was being helped as soon as they walked in. The gait analysis was much more minimal than I thought it would be, but it was great to get such individualized attention. I loved the experience so much, I bought shoes on the spot (even though I found the same pair on Amazon for $30 less). He told us to come back after our run around Greenlake if it didn't work out. Well, sadly I ran into (no pun intended) the same issue I'd had before with these new shoes, and back I went. Kirby jumped right back in to help me and consulted with a co-worker too. I was able to exchange the shoes for a different pair and he even threw in a free pair of laces! I'm still struggling to figure out if these new shoes are working or not, but I was given some lacing tips to try and I know if they still don't work, I can go back for more assistance. Also, there was no pressure! My husband tried on several pairs of shoes as well, but ended up only needing insoles for his current shoes. It was nice to not be pressured into unnecessary purchases. There is nothing close to comparison when it comes to buying running shoes and wanting to truly get the best in customer service from someone who specializes in their practice. I usually buy shoes at REI and go for price, look and feel. But at Super Jock 'n Jill, they go the extra 'mile' to make sure you are buying the best shoe for you. John first asked what I was looking for, then had me run around the store so he could analyze my form. From there he suggested a variety of styles to help perfect my step-by-step motion. I tried on six different pairs and with each one I was allowed to take a trot around the block to compare them on a quick test. I had a lot of questions and John was extremely knowledgeable and he even showed me a new way to tie my shoes to keep my heel in place without pinching the top of my foot, which is rather high on top due to high arches. I left with a pair of Mizunas that not only felt like they were made for my feet, but look great too. I also spent $50 LESS than I was prepared to. For the best results, go to the experts for your running gear. I will be a repeat customer for sure. read more

I don't run enough to need shoes more than once every two-three years or so, but when I finally did, I took a stroll around Greenlake and finished off at JnJ. It's kind of amazing how much science goes into a running shoe, and while I don't really understand anything they are saying, I left with a pair of shoes that felt five hundred times better than any I've owned previously. I came here for a shoe fitting on a busy Saturday with a sale going on, and I never felt rushed or overwhelmed. I was greeted as soon as I walked in and Matt started helping me right away. Unlike REI, you never have to chase someone down to help you. The same employee stays with the customer the whole time throughout the process and only helps one person at a time (or two if you come in with someone). They stay put even when you go outside to test out different shoes. It was a very relaxed experience. Matt was very knowledgable about fit and made great recommendations. There is a nice range of selection. The return policy gives you confidence that you can try shoes out. All the employees were friendly. Great place. read more

After six months of intimidation, I finally visited Super Jock 'n Jill on a quest for new running shoes. Prior to this, my method for scoping out potential shoes involved a visit to Nordstrom Rack to see which Nikes both fit well and looked nice. To be totally honest, I didn't think there was much flaw in this plan seeing as my previous pairs of shoes worked out great (and I even ran a marathon comfortably in one pair). But I digress. After hearing such wonderful things about Super Jock 'n Jill, I decided to check it out. I am so glad that I did! Immediately after entering, I was greeted by Francisco, who was as warm as can be. He gave me his undivided attention for the full ~45mins I was there. After asking me a few basic questions about my running history, what shoes I typically wear, etc., he pulled a pair of shoes for me to try. He began to feel all sides of the shoe to check what type of fit I would need. I walked in a straight line toward the door and he analyzed my movement (whether I pronate, supinate, etc.). After this, a few more shoes were pulled based on my needs and he continued to analyze my movement in each. I was able to go outside and jog up the neighboring hill in each shoe to really get a feel for how I would run. I was down between two great pairs, and compared to my usual Nikes, I could feel a drastic difference in each. I had my first run in my new shoes yesterday and felt great! Throughout my entire visit, Francisco was able to knowledgeably answer all of the random questions that came to my mind (Which shoe is better for long distance? Will treadmill running mess up my shoes? Is this shoe going to make me sweat more?) If you are clueless about what type of shoe you should be in, I would highly suggest making a visit to Super Jock 'n Jill. The atmosphere is very relaxed and not pretentious in the slightest. Sure, you will end up paying full price for shoes, but at least you will know that you are buying shoes that will really work for you. And if they don't? Customer service is key. SJNJ treats every customer like they're important and like the employee/business appreciates people spending their hard earned money at their location. The few times I've been here so far I've never had to wait more than a few minutes for help and have never felt ignored... unlike that spot just down the street. As someone who becomes fiercely loyal to places I CHOOSE to spend my money at nothing infuriates me more than feeling like a business or employee doesn't give a crap about me as a client. I've never felt that way at SJNJ. I've gotten great advice here from people who are not only knowledgeable but also friendly. I could totally see going for a run with these folks. I could do with a little more selection in the store but they can get whatever I want so it's not a huuuuge deal since I typically plan a head on my shoes purchases. They often times have sale items you can pickup on the cheap and their prices are pretty reasonable anyways. As someone who goes through lots of running shoes I'm glad I have a place that's cool, friendly and values me as a client so I don't dread my frequent trips in for new shoes. I'm a fan! read more

I wish I could give this place 11 stars! Since I'm only reaffirmimg what everyone's already said, I'll try to keep this review as short and sweet as I can, else I get too gushy. What makes Super Jock 'n Jill great: 1) Staff that knows their shit! Connor helped me and he was informative, helpful, attentive, and patient. They're not on commission, so they don't make you feel pressured to buy anything. 2) Test runs, literally. I ran around the corner and up & down the hill, tryng on 5 different shoes, each time with different shoes on each foot. There are a lot of subtle nuances to fit you never would've thought about otherwise. 3) Great tIps and tricks to offer! In addition to trying different shoes, they also play around with different ways to wear the same shoe (e.g., different ways to lace them, etc). 4) They take into consideration past injuries or discomforts. In fact, I can't remember which day of the week, but they have different physical therapists come into the store so you can consult and have them assess your form. Ask the register for a schedule. I should also mention this is a FREE service. 5) Monday night group runs. 6) They have a large calendar of upcoming races and a ton of brochures, flyers, and information on additional races. 7) The Nordstrom's refund policy of runners!! For whatever reason your shoe doesn't work, you can bring it back in and they'll work with you to figure a solution, including a refund. And there's no time limit on this. I will add that I haven't personally returned anything, but this is what I and my friend (on a separate occasion) have been reassure by their staff. 8) A selection of running clothes and gear, including local brands. I decided to stop looking for a bargain on running shoes and get some real help because my feet had been hurting. My doctor recommended I go here. She was absolutely right. For the $20 I might have saved by getting a discount shoe, I got a very attentive salesperson who evaluated my stride. After almost an hour of trying on many shoes and many runs outside, he matched me up with the perfect running shoe and I can already tell the difference. No pain! Executive summary: Nice people, but that's about it. I went in there looking for running shoes, and I felt like they didn't listen to a word I said - they just kept bringing out more shoes. Having a huge selection is nice, but having a number of shoes in front of you with no organization to them is not helpful at all. I would try on a shoe, run around the block, then come back and report what was wrong. The sales person would then give me another pair that in no way reflected what I commented on, and we'd repeat the process. Visit after visit, I would choose the pair that felt the best, take them home, then go for a test run and decide they did not feel good. I stopped listening to their sales people (they kept giving me stability shoes even though they noticed, and I reported that I under-pronate and need neutral cushioned shoes) and instead told them what I wanted (neutral-cushioned shoes in a wide size). I happened to be talking to the manager, and he told me that they may have a pair or two that I could try on. He offered that he could have a buyer get some and they'd be in the store within a few days. I felt like I was finally getting somewhere. I showed up the following weekend, and lo and behold, they had no new, wide, shoes I went back to the store 7 times and was getting really discouraged. After the 7th visit, I returned the pair I had previous tried, and walked a block over to Road Runner Sports. Read my review of them for a much better buying experience. read more

My new shoe store! I went in with a list of needs and walked out with the perfect shoe. I have a super painful foot that most shoes make worse. The woman who helped me listened carefully to me, answered all my questions, suggested I walk outside on the hill which was very helpful and kept me from picking a pair that would have ended up hurting. Imagine purchasing a shoe, not for color and look, but for comfort and it's ability to prevent you from injuring yourself while running. Imagine excellent customer service, and a store that promotes running, injury-free, and keeping you healthy. Imagine actually TRYING your running shoes before you buy them. Meet Super Jock 'n Jill. Located on the north end of Greenlake, it seems a perfectl location for this little jewel. This place is always busy. Staffers are young, fun and upbeat college-agers, they stand towards the front of the store just waiting for you to come in. This is no ordinary running shoe buying experience. They watch you run, gage your gait and running style and make their recommendations on that. You try shoe after shoe until you find one that will be most comfortable for you, and no one else. There's a hill out the door and to the right, they'll have you run up and down it to gage whether or not the shoe is slipping back and forth on your foot too much. They will find you the perfect shoe, and if you take it home and find a few weeks later that it's rubbing in the wrong places, or it's not offered the arch support you thought it would, bring it back, and they'll find you something else. Prices aren't bad, maybe a bit more than the average person is spending on tennis shoes, but if you could spend a bit more on a pair of jeans that fit your body perfectly, you'd do it right? Same concept. I think a lot of people feel kind of goofy their first time in, I mean, they make you run around the store and up and down a hill, but there's always at least five other people in here doing the same thing. Best running shoe store I've ever found. I only wish they had more room, and therefore a better selection of clothes. read more

About 6 months ago I went to Super Jock 'N Jill on the recommendation of my podiatrist to purchase some shoes that would help with my heel pain issues and the Hoka One One shoes I purchased definitely helped with the issues but they seemed to not last as long as one would expect for how expensive the shoes were. Ty has been great in hearing my concerns and offering solutions as to help me feel better about my purchase. I wanted to get my boyfriend a pair of running shoes since he was thinking about doing his first ever half-marathon. I looked up many places in Seattle and had it narrowed down to Seattle Running Company and Super Jock 'n Jill and then judged from the reviews. I am so glad that I chose to come here! The name of the place is super silly but that helped to lower the intimidation factor for me (yeah, the shoes were for my boyfriend but I'm so uncoordinated and mediocre at sports that I got anxious anyways). When we walked in, we were promptly greeted by one of the 10+ sales associate working in there. After explaining what we were there for and our price range, the saleslady (shall I call her Jill?) told us to sit tight and within minutes, she came out with a pile of shoe boxes, each with pair of running shoes that she would instruct him to try on and take for a trial run around the block while she patiently waited. He must have tried on at least six or seven pairs of shoes and double-tried a couple of them...I was getting tired just sitting in my seat, watching as he laced them on, ran towards the door and back (so that she could watch him and analyze his gait), and as he raced out the door for a lap around the block. Expect to spend about an hour in here to get matched with your running shoe sole mate (SOLE! GET IT?!?!). An hour well worth it if you're actually going to invest your time and energy in running. After that, maybe run your *ss down to one of the fine Greenlake eating establishments for lunch (or, you know, run around Greenlake). read more

Woah. This place is unreal. The service here was probably the best I've gotten anywhere. The person gave me personalized attention, considering my specific preferences and medical needs. He was patient as I tried on different shoes. He was knowledgeable about shoes and how the foot should work. He was trusting enough to let me walk out the store with the shoes on, to try them outside. The store claims the world's best return policy and I believe it. They accept returns of used shoes at any point, with or without a receipt. That's unheard of. It reminds me of the legendary Nordstrom return policy. This place is insanely good. I signed up for a couch to 5K (running evolution - she is also fantastic) and my knees were bothering me so I decided to update my shoes. I came in and was immediately greeted. I explained my situation and for once did not bother to look at the shoes to find the cute ones - I just had the employee watch my walk and then jog and start brining out suggestions. I think the shoes I ended up with are a little bit unattractive but they feel great! Price was around $100. Service was great. I was told they take returns even after I have worn the shoes if I decide they weren't a perfect fit. That is very cool! read more

Well worth the drive from north of Nowhere... professional, knowledgeable, very friendly staff, and the perfect pair of shoes for our resident running junkie in something like twenty minutes. Give shoes a test run outside (in beautiful Green Lake no less) before you buy, and leave knowing if those babies don't keep loving your feet after a few weeks on the open road, you can take them back.
