Placed an online order that included a CHICKEN machaca burrito amongst other items. About 4-5 bites in I realized it was definitely not chicken but beef. I typically put salsa on top after each bite, so I unfortunately didn't catch it until after that fifth bite. Maybe not a big deal for most people, but I haven't eaten beef in 25 years. Good food and good service. There were 5 of us seated at a table with a bench on one side and two chairs in the other. No one can sit at the end of the table so three of us sat on one side while two sat on the other. Very uncomfortable when one is left-handed and has all but 1 foot of space to work with. I honestly don't know what they were thinking by seating 5 adults at a table designed for 4. It was a busy Saturday night but no excuse for that. I didn't want to upset the grandparents who were already comfortably seated so we sat through dinner without complaint. Interior lighting is super bright, harsh. But at least it helps identify the greasy but complimentary chips. The service was friendly and prompt. The food is delicious. The complimentary chips were oily but hardly noticeable once dipped in the fresh salsa. Guacamole and sour cream for nachos costs $1.50 extra. Very disappointed. This chain started off being reasonably priced and known for its great food. I know they had a large following in Long Beach. This was my first time ordering from any of their restaurants. Really overpriced and portions were rather skimpy for what they charge. The quality of the food was okay but nothing special to warrant paying over $40 for 2 combo plates and a soup. The enchilada tamale combo seemed like a children's meal. I appreciate the fact they are keeping their doors open during the Covid-19 crisis but I don't see any need to return. I LOVE SUPER MEX! I've been to the one in Fountain Valley, Huntington Beach, Long Beach, Sunset Beach and now Irvine. I think all of them are fabulous! I've never had something that I didn't like. Their salsa is really good, I love it. I usually get their beef taquitos but I've had their carnitas a few times and they are really good too! We didn't pick our food up late. But when we got home, our food was cold. How cold? The cheese in my burritos hadn't even melted. That's how cold it was. Really disappointing. He also has the most infectious laugh ever We've been going to Super Mexs for over 30 years and were so happy when they came to Irvine. I came in for the first time today and ordered a to go order. 47 Minutes later still no food, I asked two separate employees where my food was and waitress said yeah yeah it should be done in a few minutes I just checked. I had ordered a beer and was waiting on the patio. At almost 47 minutes in I asked someone else and he said that someone already took my order 30 minute ago. I told him that I had told the staff that I would be sitting on the patio to wait and that there were signs that say please feel free to wait on the patio while your order is getting prepared. I asked the supervisor if I could possibly get a refund and he said no and that he could "split 50:50" because the food was prepared twice, which was NOT my fault. Fast forward three years and I decided to give this spot another chance. I got the Beef Tamale Plate with rice and beans. The beans were the best thing on the plate, even though they gave me a legit two spoonfuls of beans on my plate and an unnecessary amount of dry, stale tasting rice. The Tamales were terrible. The menu is quite extensive and consists of Antojitos, "Legendary" Super Mex Burritos, Combinacions, Fajitas, Sopas & Ensaladas, Flautas of Chimichangas, Mas Burritos, Lite Menu, Tostadas, A la Carte Items, Tacos, Beverages and Extras. The menu didn't really overwhelm us, because we already had an idea of what we were getting and soon I was heading up to the Carry Out Window ( https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/super-mex-irvine-2?select=z1nANfnMV495VxdvI4omiQ ) to place our order. There wasn't a line initially when I ordered, but a few more people came in to place Carry Out ordered while I was waiting for our food. I hope he still isn't wandering the center looking for the restaurant ... Rohlinism: Not all those who wander are lost ... just those who don't have satellite navigation! Our order was up in about 15 minutes and we were on our way home with the contents of our order. The deep fried tortillas were nice and crisp and held up well while being dipped in the salsa. The tortillas were different in a good way and the salsa provided had some decent seasoning, but was on the mild side. The refried beans were as good as Laina remembered in the flavor department and there was a good amount of cheese on top of the beans. The key to good refried beans is using lard (sorry veg heads) and Super Mex definitely used lard in their beans. The taquitos reminded ... strike that ... they were flautas. Pan fried instead of deep fried and not very evenly which left parts of the flautas burnt and other parts under cooked. There was plenty of beef inside and the beef was seasoned well, but if I wanted flautus I would have ordered flautas. The guacamole and sour cream were decent in both flavor and quantity. I did like the uniqueness of the deep fried tortillas and the refried beans were some of the better ones I have consumed, but I would hardly call this a destination restaurant. If you are in the area and Jonesing for Mexican, it will probably satisfy the craving. read more

I called Super Mex and was told 'well, the food went out' and that 'the Uber driver picked up two orders, and so maybe he mixed it up.' This place was good, but not great. All three of the stars go for the team members working in the store. They were friendly and doing their best to keep up and do whatever they could they could with the ingredients on hand. Unfortunately, however, despite setting the bar pretty low for suburban "Mexican" food, this place didn't make it over the bar. Super Mex is a chain that I first found out in Vegas. My friend recommended their taquitos (rolled tacos) and they were superbly pan fried. Here in their OC outlets I have been ordering the cocido beef soup (so good) and it comes with a side of tortillas and rice. I also like ordering their street tacos as well. They are usually very good however once in a while their shredded beef tacos can be dry. My favorite meat for their street tacos is chicken. Super Mex has a very huge menu serving everything from breakfast, soups, salads, to combo plates so I'm sure you will be able to find something that satiates your Mexican food craving. Super Mex is a staple of good Mexican style food in So Cal. Bad reviews seem to be about take out orders. I haven't done take out there but not every restaurant is great at everything. Super Mex delivers on good tasty quality food and a good experience in person- always has. I took a friend and my super picky 7 year old. We all had phenomenal food, service was EXCELLENT, and we decided to make it a regular in our rotation because they have so many great options no matter what you're in the mood for. Had their # 27 which come with beans and rice which are good the cheeses are just right with the pinto beans and the rice is well done. I was there on a date and both of us had a hard taco and chili relleno on our orders I had an additional beef tamale. Both hard tacos shells were burnt The tamale masa was flavorless and dry The chili relleno was flat and served tail down towards front of plate. Advertised as spicy but I didn't experience spicy. Service was poor, we had to request napkins and utensils 3 times over 15 minutes before we finally received them. In addition don't count on drink refills even if they say they are getting them as you will most likely finish your dinner conversation and meal before they come.
