What a classic! Used to come here during covid. It was the only place we could get shrimp fajitas. Sat in the parking lot chowing down... years later came back today outta a random itch. They've redone the menu, but food is better. Classic texmex restaurant like how El Torito used to be. Chips light and crispy. Salsa rich and flavorful. Beans yummy. Fajitas tasty with great portions. After all the years of living in or near Tustin, this was my first time here. Let's start with the good; the entrees were on point. I got the seafood enchiladas in green sauce and my husband got the chimi burrito. The green sauce was perfect, the seafood was a little dry but the rice and beans made up for it. My husband loved his burrito, compared it to the one at our favorite place in orange and he said it was better. The chips and salsa were the most disappointing, very thick salsa, chunks of tomatoes and the chips were almost bland. We also ordered the guacamole appetizer, large portion we didn't finish and we added salt to it. The margaritas were ok, nothing special, definitely premix. Service was so nice, the host was very welcoming and the busier was very attentive. This is a great neighborhood spot but it's just like many others around town, when you have your favorite, you keep returning. read more

I'm writing this because I am very concerned about the accuracy of the information provided by the staff at Rodrigo's. On previous visits, we were explicitly told by our server that the rice and beans were vegetarian. However, when I called last week to check their hours and double-checked the ingredients, the person on the phone informed me that the beans actually contain lard. This is a huge misstep. For many people, knowing exactly what is in their food is a matter of religious practice, ethical choice, or health requirements. It is incredibly disappointing to realize we were misinformed in the past. The management needs to ensure their entire staff is properly trained on their ingredients - this isn't a topic to be careless about. Please be cautious if you have dietary restrictions. read more

Fun, nostalgic location for Mexican food, a good bar, and large dishes. We enjoyed the guacamole, the Burrito Supreme, and the Stuffed Padilla Chile Relleno. All of them were very good and large portions. The service was attentive, with plenty of chips, and we enjoyed getting to sit by the bar and watch sports while eating. I dine at rodrigo's about once every three months, and I feel like the food quality has deteriorated. I ordered the burrito supreme with chicken, just under 19.00, and it was very runny from the refried beans, and the chicken was very very sparse. I mean, for $19.00 with no sides included, I expected more pieces of chicken, and less of the runny beans oozing out. The profit margin for them, must be like $17.00. The worst part was, I was up with nausea and vomiting most of the night. Very bad experience for me and don't think I will be going back, sadly. read more

My friend and I had lunch here. We took advantage of their lunch specials. I had the enchilada and taco. My friend had Rigo's special. We both enjoyed our meals. Both were huge portions-not smaller "lunch" size. The service was terrific. The waiter was at our table immediately after we sat down. The food came out quickly and he brought the check soon as we were finished. It was comfortable and quiet. Nice to be able to talk and not have to try to hear over loud music. My enchiladas were burnt still super crispy and the sauce was like brown chicken fajita quesadilla like two pieces of chicken and I do not feel like that's my moneys worth whatsoever the cheese was stale in the enchiladas we're so greasy now I feel like I'm sick, especially with this diarrhea outbreak I am very upset disappointed and this is one of my favorite restaurants and this is not my first time with this happening so I have very disappointed and Ricky doesn't check anything if the orders are right or nothing he's useless! We have been coming here for years. Going back to when it was Don Jose's. We have catered from them and had so many family meals there. I have to say the quality has absolutely gone down. First of all why do you have a fajita tostada with nothing different from the regular tostada. No grilled veggies etc but you charge $2.00 more? Super disappointing. Secondly we ordered a carne asada platter that was supposed to be medium rare. It was not only over cooked it was one of the worst cuts of meat we have ever had. The steak knife they gave us could barely cut through it. With all this being said I could forgive a random bad meal but the server was so rude I literally will not go back to this location ever again. reminds me of a family owned restaurant. Fantastic food....two shredded beef tacos with rice and beans for$20. Sundays during the summer they have $6 house margaritas ALL DAY. $53 for my husband and I, which included food and one margarita each. This place is a reasonably priced restaurant. Not to fancy but not a taco shop. It's a great spot for good Mexican food! We also had a great server (Jada). The bus boy did well too, making sure our complementary chips and salsa were never empty. A family owned restaurant for over 50 years. I have been dining at this chain all my life. It was one of my grandparents favorite places to get together on Sundays and for birthdays. They have the best chips and salsa, and really good rice and beans. The shredded beef tacos are my favorite entree, but I also really like the chimichangas. I came in and was greeted right away by the host Julie and seated right away and handed me the menu and mention about the specialize of the day.she was polite and always had a smile. After I was seated,Luis up and politely and professionally informed me about the daily specials and how it was happy hour. The whole restaurant needs a remodel. It's as bright as the DMV inside very uncomfortable to eat plus the receptionist guy and some of the waiters who are obviously been here for a while. Pains me to say this, but what a total disappointment. Been going to Rodrigo's/Don Jose for over 45 years. Went to this location tonight, it took 25 minutes to get seated. They had nobody working. It took 20 minutes to order, after we were seated, it took another 45 minutes to get drinks and food. They should have just closed the restaurant...it was that bad. I've probably visited this, and other locations, easily over 1,500 times...and I hate to wonder if it's time to find another Mexican spot. I have been dining at this particular establishment for over 25 years. We probably average eating there once a week. We celebrate birthdays, holidays, anniversaries, date, nights everything there. This was our go to during Covid, where we knew we could always go and get good food or if we wanted to place an order and get the same quality food to eat at home. I can't say how disappointed I am in today's incident. I called in at 11 AM to make sure that there would be no issue knowing that it was Cinco de Mayo. The hostess, who took my call reassured me that there would be no issue and that my food would be ready at 6:45. I was hosting to get together with some friends at my house thus wanted to make sure that we had quality food. Upon arriving at restaurant at 6:45, the host Ruley was telling me that they're an hour behind and it is what it is because we're busy. He then informed me that if I would like to speak to the manager, he would get them. The manager came out, and told me that he was the manager of the location. I explained to him that I placed the order at 11:00 AM, and he then informed me that there's nothing he can do on online orders don't go through. I informed him that my order was not done online, but I actually called it in and spoke with someone about it. He told me that it was all the same and there's not much they can do. They were busy, and unfortunately, my food is after everyone else else's that has already been put in. It would probably take about an hour for me to get my food because the kitchen was backed up. I found that unacceptable and I asked him what's the point of calling in to reserve a pick up time and he said that's not their problem. So I got to go home to my little get together for tonight without food. Very disappointing This was my go to restaurant for everything and now I'm second-guessing myself.
