This was my first time at this place, and my parents brought me along. I ordered two catfish fillets and three shrimp, along with mac and cheese, and I decided to try their hush puppies. The atmosphere was nice and welcoming, and there's a bar towards the back. When the fish and shrimp arrived, they were fried well, but I found them to be quite bland--definitely needed more flavor. The mac and cheese was just standard; nothing too special about it. However, I enjoyed the hush puppies--they were good. I felt that the tartar sauce could have been improved as well; it tasted more like mayonnaise with a hint of seasoning. Overall, it was a decent lunch. There hasn't been a large crowd any time that I've been. With plenty on the menu, you're sure to find something to enjoy. We had the fried catfish, Burria tacos, and enchiladas. All of the dishes hit the spot. Albeit, it's not a authentic or traditional cuisine, it was fairly good. The fried catfish was more Cajun style breading than tempura style. Great, cleanly cooked food! Theo place is larger than it looks and has good seating. I had the fish tacos and they were grilled perfectly and garnished with avocado, along with rice and slaw. Wanted to love this place so bad!!! But unfortunately, everything we ordered fell short. The only good thing was they were a good sized portion. We got the scallops entree, seafood mix soup, 1 lbs of hot and spicy shrimp, and bread pudding. Scallops were overcooked and the hot and spicy shrimp were horrible! You can tell they were no where near fresh. The shrimp were practically falling apart and the tasted like they've been sitting in a boiling pot for far too long. My Better half and I were looking for seafood that's affordable AND delicious. We've been in the area better part of a year and I must say this was insanely good. Service was quick and timely and the ambiance was pretty well-tempered. The shrimp po-boy didn't stand a chance and the catfish we ordered was vacuumed up within seconds. He started with the gumbo - which he said was lacking a really good roux. And it wasn't very hot in temperature. He had the fish tacos, which just looked sad. It was a single piece of fish with a slice of avocado. There was slaw on the beer battered one, but not on the grilled ones. Easy fix, we asked for some slaw - they have spicy and regular. That helped the tacos. He had veggies instead of rice - mostly squash and zucchini...with one broccoli and a few carrots. But they were cooked well and he enjoyed them. We'd go back. read more

Super Shack is hard to miss, with a huge neon sign. (Where Fuzzy's used to be.). We love seafood, and this place has a ton of potential! It is easy to order at the counter, fix your drinks, and wait for the food at a table. They have about 8 types of liquor, if you want to sling your own drinks. Wide array of seafood choices, mostly boiled or fried. The crab legs looked pretty good. We started with a huge Shrimp Cocktail, which was aparently served in a glass full of tomato soup. Too thin to be cocktail sauce or pico, it was like a drink! I dipped about 4oz of the liquid out, so I could access the shrimp. Plenty of crackers on the table. Need to work on the sauce. Our fried shrimp were large and juicy. Our fried catfish were huge, although smaller pieces would've been crisper. (I like crisp catfish.). They bring tartar sauce with the food, or make your own cocktail sauce at the central station. We were excited about Bread Pudding & Ice Cream, but it was a disappointment. (We love bread pudding.). This BP was a huge, dense, leathery chew toy. I've never seen BP like this. Avoid it. The concept is good, but it needs a bit of work. read more

During a recent visit to Plano and Rowlett, the Super Shack was suggested as a place for lunch so a bunch of us drove there. We appeared to be ahead of the lunch rush and went up to the counter to place our orders. They have a menu that offers a nice variety of seafood dishes that can be fried or grilled so I ordered the grilled salmon. They didn't offer brown rice but Mexican rice was an option so I ordered that. The meal also came with a vegetable medley. The gal at the counter was very polite and friendly. The restaurant also offers beers and liquor to enjoy. The interior was spacious and clean and has some booths along the wall and standard table seating. There's fountain drinks with free refills and didn't give in to the temptations for a cold cocktail. The food arrived within 20 minutes so we all dug in. The salmon was nicely seasoned and with lovely grill marks. The inside was moist and flavorful. There was also a small cup of what tasted like a pineapple glaze that could be used to sauce up the salmon but I didn't need it. The Mexican rice was a long grain rice but some nice seasoning and color. The veggies were steamed and a tasty addition to the meal. I enjoyed the entire lunch and the prices were reasonable. I highly recommend this place as a lunch option as it's close to businesses, has ample parking, the staff were great, there's a huge selection of meals on the menu, and the food was very good. Very big Tex mex seafood restaurant in Rowlett. They have a lot drink and food specials throughout the week, check them out in Instagram. You order up at the front and they will bring in your order to your table. So what that means is if you need anything else you have to come up to the front. At the front we ordered fried pickles, catfish and fries, shrimp cocktail, and the tilapia tacos with margaritas. We had a seat and an employee came to our table to ask for our order again they made a mistake and erased our order she mentioned. Fried pickles rate it a 5 very good and crispy for an appetizer. Catfish and fries rate a 4 the fish was very tender and good steak fries The shrimp cocktail rate a 5 I loved how they put half of an avocado on top The fish tacos rate a 3 they came in rolled up like flautas, we had to unfold the whole tacos to put ingredients inside. Tacos should come in open and ready to eat. With a lot of lemon and fish sauce they were just okay. The margaritas needed a little more alcohol, it taste like a 7-11 slushy after awhile. We are officially new fans! I can't remember how many times we've passed by and said we need to try this place sometime. Well, today was the day. We came in around 11:30 AM on a Saturday, so we were the first customers. Our first thought was how spotlessly clean the place was. They have a walk up counter to order and the menu is large. I ordered the salmon salad and asked if the salmon could be blackened. For $9.99 it was a large piece of salmon and it was cooked perfectly. My husband and the 2 piece fried catfish with 3 shrimp basket. He really liked the corn meal coating and said that it was much better than Fish & Tails in Rowlett. It was obvious that everything was made fresh. We were also surprised to see a really big covered outdoor patio out back. At about 12:30 lots of people started coming in for lunch. Apparently there are plenty of people in Rowlett that have figured out how good this place is before we did. That's ok, now we know and will definitely be back on the regular. read more

It must have been frozen when fried bc when we bit into it, burning hot water sprayed out of the filet. We had to break open each piece and literally poured out the boing hot water so we wouldn't get burned. Our fish ended up a hot soggy mess. The salmon, probably farm-raised, was dusted with cajun seasoning, and overcooked. Salmon is best without any spices, and prepared to stay moist. Salmon is tricky. I thought it was nice that as we ordered the guy behind the counter pointed out there was a booth available and gave me a heads up to grab it while we could. Very thoughtful and much appreciated! Then we got our shrimp cocktail quickly and bowl of clam chowder. Both were delicious! I ordered the house Cabernet and it was ok. But impressed that the woman made sure the glass was clean. The coconut shrimp was huge and fresh and delicious. The raw oysters were great. My daughter liked the chicken fingers and the crawfish was great. This place has great potential!!! I do have faith! I think with a little understanding of what their customers say and actually listening it will be rectified quickly! My husband and I shared the gumbo and shrimp cocktail. Gumbo was a bit bland BUT I did enjoy the dark roux. However it could stand to be a bit darker, with a rich flavor. That's just me though! The shrimp that is added into the gumbo at an extra charge is bland, it literally has no flavor - it was cooked with most likely just boiling water and no seasoning. This needs attention! The chicken was bland too. Most gumbos I've had before the meats have a very tasty flavor to go along w the spices in the gumbo. The small shrimp cocktail we ordered in spicy. It was barely mild. My husband and I have different heat sensitivity and he didn't find it spicy either. It was good though! Super shack is the best seafood restaurant by far in Rowlett. Definitely a mom and pop shop, the staff is very friendly and attentive; even helpful with choosing their best items if you're unsure with which foods to get. I highly recommend the mozzarella sticks and fried pickles to start with. In my honest opinion, their classic fried fish basket should be and is the best item on the menu, but you can't go wrong with the crab legs, Alfredo pasta, and po boys.
