On Main Street in Rowlett, is a small but very well designed Mexican Restaurant named Barrocos Latin Cuisine. They use their space thoughtfully. It's not big, but they can easily seat 50 people. The food was good, and fresh. I got the chicken fajita tacos, and it was tasty. My grandson loved the rice! He ate everyone's rice on this visit. The service was pleasant and quick. Food, pretty good. Service, generally understaffed at lunch. Nonetheless been there dozens of times without a problem. Picked the wrong Friday today. The owner, who was loudly berating a telemarketer on the phone during the lunch hour rather than attending to her customers decided my patronage was not welcomed. After a third request to KINDLY refill an empty glass she suggested I calm down to which I simply asked for my beverage to be refreshed. Wasn't good enough for her. I gave her every opportunity to diffuse the situation which she would not do. Honestly, I think she treated me disrespectfully because of my race. After I finished my meal I quietly asked if she had anything to say to me, to which she raised her voice again told me to leave and not come back. Wow. I've owned restaurants and know many restauranteurs. Also have owned and run many businesses. Never seen a customer treated and provoked like this before. This woman, the "owner" is off the hook. My experience was overall really good. You have to understand that this is a Latin Fusion place which means they put a twist on traditional Latin dishes. They do have some unadulterated items like fajitas and beans and rice. Other items like the chiles rellenos are half stuffed and then layered with additional cheese, instead of stuffing the poblano pepper with all the cheese. As far as the taste and presentation - delicious and creative! Downside: water has traces of "tap" taste and the menus shown on the reviews are outdated. I've been here several times with the family, and also gotten the fajitas but I recently had the opportunity to take my friends for the Latin dance night and we explored the menu and really enjoyed all the other items on the menu. My taco was yummy, my enchilada was excellent, my sautéed veggies were cooked perfectly, and I haven't had charro beans that good in a really long time. Drank every last drop. I was told we were going out to a Mexican restaurant. When we pulled up in front of it, I was still looking for it! This place was a very pleasant surprise beginning with the name. No garish decor or bright colors just class and hospitable surroundings. Even though quite busy, we got a table immediately and our server had menus in our hands while setting the table with chips and salsa. An excellent selection of dishes were available on the menu. Each of us chose something different and before we knew it, our food was presented. Without getting into describing each dish, as they all were flavorful and plentiful, let me just say that you must order the Mexican corn as one of your sides! We went here for a mid-week date, and the restaurant was almost full. After ordering, I see why! I ordered the parrillada mexicana which was AMAZING. The flavor on each different type of meat was done very well. My husband had the chipotle shrimp pasta, and he was also a fan. But the churros... definitely sealed the deal. Service was good. We'll definitely return and are glad it's closed to home and locally owned. read more

I love the atmosphere. It's busy and fun. For better or worse, it feels like you're in the family kitchen... casual and gregarious. The music makes you want to dance. We waited a 45 minutes for a table on a Friday night (not unusual). Then we ate 3 servings of chips and salsa while waiting another 45 minutes for the food. My husband said, "but for the food, I'd like it here." He had fajitas. The fajita steak was tough because it was incorrectly cut and the chicken was dry and over cooked. I had the posole rojo. I can't say that it was worth the wait, but I will say that I wasn't disappointed. It was DELICIOUS! The four stars are for potential. They have some work to do in wait times, cleanliness and professionalism, but those are easy fixes. I look forward to returning and giving 5 stars. read more

This place has been open for a while, but my wife and I just discovered it this year. It's a nice, if a little small, place on Main St. in Rowlett. It's a nice area and not too difficult to get parking. They do have patio seating for those nice evenings as well. It's easy to get around inside, and seating can be a little cozy, but honestly you will be sharing food anyway so it is perfect. We've had great service and had a conversation with the owner as well. Note that this is not your place if you want Tex-Mex. They have some, but you really should come here because it is not like the other Tex-Mex restaurants. The food is amazing and I (almost) guarantee you'll have enough to take home if you want. They are not stingy, I'll put it that way. We have eaten here twice and plan to go back. I do recommend it to our friends that enjoy something a little different but very good. I have a couple of pics, but I don't remember the names of the dishes! ;) It might be a drive for some, but you really should try it out. read more

we ordered the blackened salmon salad a couple times before which I liked. So on 10/3/25 we ordered it again for pickup. When we got home we realized we were given an incorrect order. we called and spoke to the owner who was very disrespectful and rude and refused to listen to us! It took a long time to get our food which is unusual and then when it came it was smothered and swimming in so much cheese I had to ask for an extra plate to scrape it off. on top of that it was barely luke warm. They knocked it out of the park once again. This place is a family favorite, and a favorite of the locals. Friendly staff, and the food is absolutely on another level. The pastor tacos are 10/10. I must begin with admitting I do not do this often. I appreciate restaurants and staff and good food. We went on a Friday evening. The place was busy but not too crowded. We placed our drink order and were served with them about 15 minutes later. Honestly, it went downhill after that. Our waiter was using some electronic device to write our order. He could not have messed it up more. The only thing correctly served was the appetizer. We waited thirty minutes for my date's food, which was wrong. My food order was never placed. Another staff came out and said the order was on its way. Seriously, twenty minutes later it arrived. During this time a man came in to order something to go. After waiting thirty-five minutes for his order, he left. We spoke on his way out and he was disappointed. I will say the menu was impressive and my drinks were okay, although the only person who came by to check on us was a young girl who spoke absolutely no English- which was okay because my date is Latina. The table next to us did not fare as well due to no Spanish skills. I have never done this in my life but I left no tip. I generally will tip in the 30-40% range because of my respect for the servers. I could not do it tonight. I will not go back. I saw the place from a local brewery across the street and it looked cool! I was truly looking forward to my first visit there. read more

However, they did keep their location open to walk in business, and there was no seating indoors, so we sat outside. We were never checked on. We asked for chips and salsa 3 times before we received it. We emptied our waters and never got refills. We emptied our margs and never saw our waiter to order another. We waited for over an hour for our food while others around us who came in later received theirs. The atmosphere in this restaurant is really authentic and pleasant and maybe it is because we tried this restaurant on a day when they had a party, however if you are going to host a party and not close your restaurant to outsiders please be able to accommodate those customers as well. I scraped the breading off and ate some it. The sides of refried beans tasted as if the beans had been scorched and rice was just ok. The iced tea was the weakest tea I believe I have ever had. Had a late lunch with my wife. The owners are extremely friendly and attentive. They don't have a large staff due to not being able to hire quality people, so you may think the service a bit slow. We were seated and placed our order, a young man brought us chips-n-salsa to appease our hunger. Great chips but the salsa was a bit flat. For an appetizer we ordered the Choriqueso, which was awesomely cheesey with an in-house made chorizo topping it. She ordered the Carne Flamedo and I, the Cheese and Enchiladas Mexicanas. The fajita chicken tacos are just cubed chicken seasoned with salt and pepper... there was grease all over the plate so definitely not grilled. The sour cream chicken enchiladas had some good flavor but the Chile con carne sauce was very grainy and greasy and definitely not appetizing. Their rice and charro beans were excellent though. Second time here and both times have been great. Margaritas are packed with a punch so be prepared and portion sizes are really big. Probably enough to share but flavor of food wasn't sacrificed with what we got. Only thing I wasn't a fan of was the guacamole.
