Another great weekend and another couple stops at Fish & Tails here in Rowlett! Jason and I had a million errands to run Friday, so we stopped in for a quick bite to eat. He got the fish tacos special and I'm telling you -- absolutely fabulous. The food was light but still filling, super fresh, and definitely something I'd recommend trying. We also ordered the fried pickles, which are spears (normally not my favorite style), but the breading was SO good that it completely changed my mind. And of course, I had to try the fried rice everyone talks about... and wow, they were right. It was REALLY good. At this point, we'll absolutely be back for the fried rice and fried pickles alone. We ordered dinner from here tonight and were very disappointed with the quality of the food. The Cajun chicken and shrimp pasta lacked any noticeable seasoning or spice, the cod was dry and overcooked, and both the oysters and hush puppies were extremely dry and difficult to eat. The only items we enjoyed were the Greek salad and the shrimp. For a meal that cost nearly $100, we expected much better quality and flavor. I was craving fried catfish so my babe and I stopped by. It was a Sunday afternoon so it was getting a little busy. The interior was clean with a casual vibe and the staff were kind. I ordered the catfish and shrimp fried basket and a margarita, all of which was delicious ! My babe ordered a fried whole catfish (the main reason he loves this place), sausage, red beans and rice and a margarita. I'm blown away with how fresh and delicious my food was here!! I got the pineapple mahi mahi with rice and fresh veggies. They grilled it to perfection!! The outside was seasoned and grilled to a crisp and the inside was flaky and delectable!! I'm smitten with my meal! This place is so clean too!! You could eat off the floors in the bathroom which is a HUGE deal to me. If their restrooms are that clean you know their kitchen is too!! The service was warm and friendly. No dirty tables in sight! How have I never been here before? A date suggested it and it was amazing. It gives you the fast food vibe at first because you order at the counter but it's anything but! I can agree with the previous review of how they bring out food. It is all over the place. We ordered a half a dozen of raw oysters, half a dozen grilled and seafood boil. The oysters came first and last and there was no timing so everything was on the table. The food was delicious. Honestly I have no complaints about this Fish N Tails location. We're are familiar with the food and how you order from this place since we've frequent the one in Richardson. This one is definitely smaller than the Richardson location, but it's newer and nicer. So after placing the order, we grad some drinks, headed to the table and honestly shortly after that, the food started coming out fresh and hot. The customer service and servers at this location were great! The food was also great. I like how they cook the fries well done, I don't like limp fries. This will probably be our new location for Fish N Tails. It's quite a hike from the house, but so was the Richardson location. *** Tip *** Just in case you don't know how this place operates, I will give it a run down. You walk in and there is usually a line already in place for food orders. I recommend sending others from your party that aren't ordering food to go and find a table big enough for your party, because it is pretty much first come first serve, you have to seat yourself. We got so lucky last night that we had part of our party of 9 that got there about 5 minutes before we did, and grabbed a table big enough to hold us all. The cool part about this place is that if you can nab a smaller table and add it to your table to suit your needs, It's all good, they don't mind. We were able to nab more chairs from a couple that were leaving. Anywho, once you place and pay for your order, they give you a number for your table and you place it on your table and all night that is your number for any other orders you may have for the rest of the night. They do have a separate bar for your beer, cocktails and margarita needs. The menu is pretty extensive, so study it before you go, LOL!! jk! My wife ordered the Red fish and again she had no complaints. She said it was not anything special, but for the price acceptable. The first time I ordered from here, I had the 3 catfish plus shrimp fried plate. The sizes were good, the fish was undercooked, which I didn't appreciate. I ended up throwing my plate away as I was disappointed. The second time, I ordered their combo cajun boil. I ordered it spicy. I didn't expect for Tajin to be their spice of choice. This place was clean and quiet. The service was good and the bartender has a great personality. Now the issue is the food. I got a dozen raw oysters a piece of fish and a margarita. The fish was fried and came out hot. Great cornbread batter just no seasoning. I added Tony's but if I have to pay for it and season it I might as well get paid for doing it. The raw oysters were not appealing to the eye it was a little sketchy because of the appearance. The ice was already half way melted they place a plate over the oyster which covered 4-5 oysters. It would have been better placing it on the side. Margarita was okay for a premade mix. I would have like one freshly made. They were far from busy. Tried out this place for the first time. Got to say that my catfish shrimp combo was lack luster. Honestly it lacked flavor. It was very bland. Hush puppies were mediocre. I order a draft beer and I could not stomach the taste. It was either old or flat or both. I had to send it back and ask for a bottle beer. It had a nasty taste and it was all I could do to not spit it out. The restaurant was nice and clean. It had a big crowd and the server girls were great. They kept checking on our table and replaced my beer quickly. Thank you for good service. Just not certain that I will return. Pier 101 is more expensive but has better food. A sweet local joint tucked right over the bridge! The service was so quick; we were pleasantly surprised! The atmosphere is cool with plenty of seating inside & out. Everybody cleared their plates with ease. My dad said the Diablo is spicyyyy (in the best way). The fillets could've had a bit more seasoning, but the fish was soft and flaky on the inside & crisp and crunchy on the outside.
