Super Smash Video Games always has great inventory. I've never had a problem with the team who work there. The only thing I can think of that brings the review from 5 stars to 4 is the pricing on some inventory. I've been going here for years. It's a great retro video game store. read more

I really love this place it's what a game store used to be not corporate sanitized like GameStop I bought a couple of games there yesterday. I kind of screwed up and accidentally bought a game that I already owned. And I can't figure out what I did with the receipt so I'll probably just sell it on Facebook marketplace. I've come here probably 25 times in the last 3 years. Always been treated well, and more importantly, my kids were treated politely. If you're looking for a game, they probably have it. See some complaints about prices, but for the condition and selection I have always thought of this place as very fair. Only awkward thing sometimes is staff has to be overly cautious of shoplifters, but at the same time I understand. It's a massive issue and I'm actually glad they take it seriously. Love this place. Great selection and they don't show favoritism towards one console brand which is nice. Even selection and shelf space for the big 3. Being a Xbox fan it was great seeing a big selection of original Xbox, 360, and Xbox One games. A while back they even worked with me to let me trade in a very obscure game controller. We decided on a fair price even with little info to go on with the controller itself. It was a game controller in the shape of a gun that works on Xbox and PlayStation and Pc. They tested it out which I was unable to do as I didn't have the right adapter. I come back when I can to buy classic games. I also like that they don't breathe over your shoulder as you shop. The games all have prices on them, they don't charge an arm and a leg for what they have which is also nice. I highly recommend this store! read more

Even though their refund policy states 'exchange only' they were very understanding in knowing that people go out looking for specific items and when they find them and they don't work, then they want to look elsewhere with the same money they had spent on that item. So, in our situation, we went out looking for a specific item, found one at this store, took it home and it would stop working after a specific number of plays. So, we took it back and we're very grateful that they were able to refund for it after troubleshooting and getting the malfunction on video because they did not have another item like the one we had bought. They were not greedy to just take our money and have us spend over $100 on other items that we don't want, but I I'm very appreciative that they were able to find the understanding in them and be able to refund our money. I think in the future, if they want to keep the money, they could offer to order the same item from online, which I would've also accepted because they are roughly the same price, but I guess that's a whole different process I'm not sure. !!!SHADY!!! BE WARNED.Customer service is horrible. The owner rather fight with customers than help them out. Do not be warned by just my review, check this stores negative reviews first before you go there. Seems like everybody has the same issue with the owner and staff. I wrote a review on google and the owner commented on it. I was hoping he would rectify the situation in this comment but instead completely lies about the conversation we had and then starts insulting. This all started after I called and asked for average trade in prices, before i could finish my sentence the employee cuts me off and says "we don't quote over the phone, bring your stuff in and we will talk about it". I replied that is fine, i don't need a quote, i was just looking for average prices before a make a trip up there (45 min drive away). Like a broken record the employee says that same exact thing, "we don't quote over the phone, bring your stuff in and we will talk about it". At this point i asked politely to speak with the manager. The employee sighs and puts me on hold. The manager picks up, and the conversation goes the same way. Then he gets frustrated and says "You know what? We don't want you junk anyways" I told him "That is fine but i will be leaving a negative review if this is how you treat your customers." He then hangs up the phone on me. Next i hopped on google and left my review. funny thing is i never got to tell them what i was trading in.... I had probably about 50 games, a xbox one, a ps4, a wii, a wii u, and a rock band setup. Solid collection of new, older and vintage games, along with an impressive number of periferals, guides and niknaks. I find the prices to be fair and trade-in rates are some of the best in the area. The floorplan is rather snug, making it a little difficult to browse & move about when they're busier. Some staff can be stiff or stand-offish, but knowing how gaming communities were treated socially prior to ~15 years ago, it's fine. Good help, good stock, good prices. read more

I love Smash Games and want them to do well, but as much as I enjoy browsing, I feel incredibly awkward there. This store is a collector's paradise -- display cases full of every game for every system you can imagine, plus shelves with enough accessories and miscellaneous merchandise to make your head spin. There's a large wheel hanging from the ceiling showcasing Nintendo's amiibo (not for sale, unfortunately) and a side arcade that has morphed a few times in recent years. Whenever I drive by, I want to stop in, but the experiences I've had with employees make me decide against it. Sometimes they're readily available and eager to help, other times they're condescending or disinterested and make me feel like I should apologize for being there. They also have a curious no-return policy, which has caused a headache for me in the past. Knowing that top tier vintage games no longer in production are valuable, many of these games feel overpriced. I trust that they're set at fair market value, but they're more than I'm willing to spend on 15+ year old games. Maybe that's just a personal problem. I'd love to see Smash Games reinvented with a membership option: renovate the side arcade room into a lounge where members pay a monthly (or hourly) fee to have access to various libraries they can play in-store. That way members can come get their nostalgia hits, or have parties and tournaments, and Smash can build its community without having to reacquire inventory. With the right ambiance, I think it'd be a hit. Bonus points for offering current-gen libraries as well! read more

PLEASE read this if you're considering stopping by this store. I've only been here maybe five times, but the last time I was there totally ruined it for me. The second star is just for their selection of games. To start, the employees can come off as pretty snobby. Maybe it's not intentional, but it's almost as if they think they're better than other games stores in the area. They might have a good selection, but customer service is more important. The first recent thing that turned me off was when I called in to ask about how they buy games (trade-ins). They have to "see the product first" before they can give you an estimate, which is understandable. However, when I asked if they pay a percentage of the game's value (like other places), I was told that they "can't disclose that information over the phone." Why? Just because? I live 40 minutes away. I want to know what I'd be getting before driving out just to find out that a different store has a better payment range. What made me decide to never come back unless absolutely necessary happened this Monday (11/26). I bought a PS2, some games, and a spare controller on 11/17 - two Saturdays before. Their exchange policy is within seven days. I found out, during the Thanksgiving weekend on 11/24, that the spare controller was broken. If the cord bends slightly up, the left stick stops working. I didn't get a chance to come into the store until Monday, which was two days after the exchange date. I understood that I was late, and I even mentioned that to them. They tested the controller and even said themselves that it was broken. One of the employees (maybe a manager?) told me that because it was past the exchange date, they couldn't do anything for me. He told me that "seven days is enough time to test a controller." I didn't say anything, but I found that extremely rude and inconsiderate. I had work, then spent the holiday with my family. Video games are not my life. I bought a controller and expected it to work, so I didn't think about testing it while I was busy with more important obligations. He then said that they test controllers twice before selling them. At this point, I literally said, "Well, if it was tested twice before it was sold, wouldn't it work?" His excuse was that "things happen." I'm sorry - you sold me a broken controller with an obvious defect. I don't believe that it was tested twice before it was sold. So, obviously, they wouldn't let me exchange the controller. The employee told me that he could give me a 30% discount on another controller that was apparently new. I asked how much it was, and it was $23. Again, I didn't say anything, but the broken one I bought was $25. What the hell? I'm not sure that a used, broken controller should cost more than a new one, even by a couple dollars. I said no. He then offered me a zip tie to keep it in place and sent me on my way. This was a horrible experience. I'm still pretty pissed off, but I think it's a little too late to have anything done. If you don't care about awful customer service, snobby and rude employees, and buying broken items that you can't exchange, then their game selection is pretty expansive. They have a few rare games like Haunting Grounds for the PS2 and other stuff (expect to pay well over $100 for the good stuff). They also have games for just about any console. Have fun. I hope no one else has such a crappy time at the store. I won't be coming back. read more

I won't lie, I am giving them a high score because they sold me a game that I've been tracking for awhile at a good price. But I will try and be detailed on why this place is good from my experience rather than my purchase. So here goes: As I read some of the earlier reviews, I can kind of agree that the staff seems to be in their own world. But I approached one of the guys and I had no problem getting his full attention. He seemed to be twiddling his thumbs or something but once I got his attention, he was fully attentive in helping me find what I needed. He knew what I was looking for and was able to help me find what games I was interested in while giving some recommendations on similar games. Being from out of state, he was also able to tell me more about Tacoma and updated me with some more of the Washington state laws. A few moments later, he helped another person and another guy came to take his place as soon as I needed to find another game. Further talked to him and he tells me that they often have smash tournaments (project M & melee) every now and then. Asked him about a few N64 games and he seemed to be very knowledgeable what I was trying to find out. Regarding the stores selection, they seem to have a lot. One thing that I think they have that most retro game stores around do not are the wall of N64 games to the side of their store. I do not know why but N64 games seem to be scarce in other places. They also have some good rare stuff such as complete copies of Valkyrie Profile, Brigandine Legend of Forsena, Tales of Destiny II, and was tempted to buy more. Like with Another Castle Videogames up in Edmonds, they also have a coin-op arcade attached to the side in another room. It was closed during my visit but I did see a few arcade machines from glancing over. I forgot what they had exactly. Overall, this would be one of my favorite video game places during my Seattle trip and I would definitely come back and recommend this place for all your retro game finds. read more

Today, I chose to sell my recently deceased brothers Super Nintendo & Nintendo 64 games. I was greeted lackadaisically, and I responded 'hi! I'm here wondering if I can sell my brothers old-' I was met with 'do you have authorization to sell these?' I understand why this was asked, since I'm sure I looked a little rough around the edges today, as I have a cold and am fairly young. I awkwardly replied 'Well...He's dead... So...' I felt like crying. The older, balding gentleman with glasses I'm sure was just taking precautions, but he shouldn't have been so condescending/sarcastic toward me. He made an incorrect assumption, that really hurt my feelings and rubbed me the wrong way. Everyone else at this store has been friendly, helpful, and an absolute delight. The store itself is straightforward, and not in anyway intimidating (as some big retro game stores are) I am unsure if I will be returning, despite my past loyalty and appreciation for this store. Every time I go here there is an insane amount of employees behind the counter and none of them are helping customers. They're all just chatting together behind the counter. I came in to maybe get my husband a gift for christmas, there were a handful of customers in the store and more people behind the counter than customers. Literally no one offered to help me. Aside from the odd lack of customer service with such an abundance of employees, the store is a mess. Seriously, how hard is it to clean up? This store just seems to be handled very unprofessionally. I've been going to super smash for 3 years and I always thought the place was cool. I bought a Dreamcast about a month ago and a handful of games an extra controller memory card and Dynamite cop without a case.I recently tried to trade it in for some PlayStation 4 stuff everything was working fine two days before. This place does have a good inventory of vintage games, for all different types of consoles. The prices are fair to good as well. The biggest problem I have with them, is the horrible customer service. On several occasions, I have gone in looking to spend money....and they are not at all hospitable, and on a couple occasions.....have been downright rude :( It seems they regret having to stop what they are doing, or break their personal conversations to answer questions. Not a good place to sell games and consoles either, from my personal experience. Good second choice for that "hard to get" or "out of stock" game. I do give them credit for their inventory of rare and vintage gaming stuff. Park at Grocery Outlet if you check them out, easiest way. And be direct with the staff, also the easiest way :/ read more

FIVE STARS FOR SURE!!! I routinely take my grandsons (7 and10) to Super Smash to buy game cartridges for them as INCENTIVES to do well at school, to get all their homework done, and to behave well at home. My previous plan, which worked well, was a large plastic jar on my desk in the living room filled with M&M's. But now we're on to bigger and better things and I can't imagine EVER outgrowing the goodies one finds at SUPER SMASH!! They have a decent selection of games which is great but there no return policy means I won't be shopping there anymore. Bought a brand new controller an the controls are super sensitive mainly because it's a low budget brand. They told me I'm stuck with it now I have to sell it on eBay for a loss. eBay has free returns on products you don't like as well as GameStop Walmart etc. Looks like your policy will just cost you money. We absolutely love this store! Every weekend we go game hunting for all our favorite old games all over Washington, and this place by far beats the rest on prices and selection. We came all the way from Marysville to check this place out last night and left with a ton of games. We bought a game right after it was traded in and they buffed and tested the game in front of us before we left. We were in there for about 20 mins, and the employees never even looked up, let alone greet us and ask us if they could help with anything.. Went there with my son a couple times. Every time, it was uncomfortable. I have to stay in there because under 18 needs their mommy to babysit them. He wants to browse, buy things. I have 2 other kids and it's hard for me to keep the baby busy while he browses. I can't just wait outside in my car in the curb. I have to be in the store. Tonight, I was in there and expressed to my son that I didn't like this store, only to be interrupted by the man behind the counter telling me, "then leave. You don't like the store, then go". He interrupted my conversation where I was trying to explain to my son why I didn't like being there. Which is, it's uncomfortable in there, I can't stand for long, and control his sister. I tried to explain it to him, the man, and he cut me off and was rude. I then said I would file a complaint and we were leaving. Told my son to put the shit down so we can go. And got lectured on my parenting for saying shit. I then told him i was going to file with BBB and he laughed at me. I replied in anger, "you're so fucking rude". Grabbed my kids and walked out. As he was harassing me while I left. Yelling things at me and my children, threatening to post video of my family, telling me to grow up. As I waved bye and left. I will never go back. I have kid friendly places to take them. Other game stores are fine and we've had a great experience elsewhere. This place needs training in customer service. Another gentleman said wait, returned with what I was looking for missing the dongle, at that point I said what's your offer I'll take it, price don't matter. Instantly we can't sell it to you and was met by 3 all saying they can't do it. How you gonna be a used game and peripheral nostalgia business and not make a sale? I ask if they have any other items in which they didn't, no biggies.
