Superior Air was the fourth company I called after more than five years of our brand new HVAC system having constant hiccups every time there was extended heat or extended cooler days. Every time rain was in the forecast, a pit would form in my stomach because I knew our furnace would freak out. GREAT customer service and the best pricing I have seen when dealing with heating and air companies!! I will not use anybody else but superior moving forward! Our AC broke when the temperature for the whole week did not go under 107 degrees. I called 14 companies and justifiably so they were all booked up for a week and didn't want to set an appointment. With our lease on a commercial building, we've inherited a nightmare HVAC scenario. A combination of an underpowered/antiquated units and ducts that look like they were commissioned by Sarah Winchester have created a pile of problems. I was referred to Superior Air Systems by a buddy of mine who manages numerous properties. A year ago, shortly after I bought this place, I noticed that my AC wasn't cooling. I hired a guy to come out and he recharged the system which was very low in freon. He did some leak tests but wasn't very thorough. Just a few weeks ago I noticed I wasn't retting cool air out of the registers. Called on a Monday and Damien responded a couple hours later. Said he could come by late morning of the next day and explained that finding coolant leaks can be difficult. He came equipped with all he needed to trouble shoot the system. Took the time to explain what he was doing and why and also gave me a class in HVAC 101 as I am one who likes to be present and ask questions when I hire a tradesman. He found the leak, repaired it and recharged the system which was low again. Now my registers are providing air 20 degrees below the return air, nice! Spent about 4 hours on my project and added quite a bit of freon for a very fair price. He is new to the San Diego area and relies of referrals for much of his work. A few years ago the contact points on my heat pump froze shut, so I pulled the fuse box so the unit wouldn't explode. I then called Damien at SAS and he promptly came over to make the repair. He replaced the contact points, duel run cap, fuses and added a hard start kit. He was probably here about an hour and the final charge was $764.00. I remember thinking at the time that it seemed very expensive for what he did but he didn't break down the cost of the parts on the repair order either. Probably for good reason because it would have indicated I paid him $500 bucks an hour for his labor. Needless to say, I'm bringing this up now because the outside fan unit on my heat pump expired and I had a friend give me a referral. He works for an a/c company during the day and does side jobs on referral only. Needless to say he replaced that large fan unit and cleaned about 15 years of clogged gunk from the condenser for $325. He was here about 2 hours. I felt so guilty I gave him more than he asked. I realize this rate was very low and not typical but he did mention the SAS sticker on my unit and saw the work that had been done by Damien and when I told him how much I had paid he just shook his head and said he wished he could charge that much...jokingly. So to be fair Damien seemed very competent and professional but if you are looking for a fair rate I would look elsewhere. read more

Our a/c went out this past saturday in 100+ temps. Called Superior Air Systems as they had serviced our a/c approx 5 yrs before. First of all, I got no answer so I ended up calling another company (should have used them from the get-go). Anyways what cost me $283 this time, cost me over $600 with Superior Air Systems five years ago! Also, SAS only changed the compressor and thats it! The other company (for less money) went up in the attic, made sure our a/c was operating according to specs, etc. This guy was thorough. Also, the guy from SAS years ago, left the old compressor (or whatever you call that thing inside the a/c that looks like a soda can) on top of the a/c unit! For months last winter, SAS was hounding me to get my heating and air serviced for a nomial fee. Soooo glad I never took them up on it! I can only imagine how much they would have wanted to charge me for that! I will NEVER use them again! read more
