DO NOT RECOMMEND Chris, the man behind the desk, is so sketch. Always making off hand unnecessary jokes and comments to people. I had just told him that I was bedridden the past month from medical stuff, not even 10 secs later he's making fun of me to the next customer "How's your prostate" laughing up a storm like some sociopath as I walk to my car! Talk about no empathy. He even told me how he took pictures of my girlfriend when she was standing around waiting to get me in front of my car! What kind of creep does that !? Talk about making a customer/person uncomfortable! On top of all that unnecessary social awkwardness, on a professional level, Chris always acts like he can make diagnosis on cars just by glancing at them when he is literally is not a mechanic at all. When questioned Chris crumbles under duress; looks away and mutters the wrong stuff. I catch him in lies all the time; never holds eye contact. The man is always making weird adjustments on invoices or not putting all the information down (shown below*). Rarely holds appointment times. I will make an appointment days or weeks out, I show up and they're clueless that I am even coming in. I will sit for hours on standby while he makes his remarks. Always talking at me, never with me. Chris ordered me wrong windshield wiper pump 2x before getting me the right one, he refused to listen to which was the right one, then on 3rd try got it right by listening to me only to tell me "Won't order another one if it does not work" when it was all on him the first 2 times and it worked because it was finally the one I asked for the 3rd go around. Chris overcharged me an hour in labor* charging me for someone's lunch break back in May then never reimbursed me. Charged me double on a brake peddle assembly back on 12/18/18, hundred bucks when they cost fifty. 4/26/19 Charged me $458 for `Flex-Alite 480` electric fans that I find on JEGS for $322 & general baseline at $350... like ugh. My Red Head Steering Gear box that Chris hyped to me how it's the best ever is totally leaking after it's installed. Went back numerous times to show and they kept brushing me off until finally accepted it is leaking only to try to tell me that "the warranty doesn't cover it because was sitting on his shelf for 6 months prior to installing it into my car and that warranty was up"! Ridiculous! As if that's my fault or problem. So, initially instead of replacing it Superior tried to put a seal kit on it, after they already done that to my 'Power Steering pump' and when that failed I had to get a whole new one! I was not having this. I called Red Head and told them what was up so that they would call 'Superior' and force them to give me my warranty because barely had been 90 days and Red Head has a 1 year warranty with unlimited miles policy. I also come to find out I was charged $541 for the steering gear when retail is $351 - so basically marked up a part for $190 and tried not to issue the warranty on it ! Essentially charged me for a core that I gave on day of install ($150) and marked me up from there. Unbelievable ! When Mike the mechanic went to replace the Red Head steering gear box (7/31/19) he literally took apart my whole front end suspension (inner/outer tire rod ends, idler arm, center link) vs just simply removing the 2 bolts off my power steering pump and taking it out the normal way through the top. Now my ride does not drive the same even after it was aligned by them. The 3 alignments I got from Superior in the last 9 months were total rubbish. So loose, drifting, on the highway my car is sliding into other lanes. A total nightmare. Don't even feel safe now. Bob, owner, installed my Wilwood disc brakes he knew the brake booster was bad, mentioned it yet did not replace the booster. So I had to do it on my own because I was driving around with no pressure at all for months. Also put on my fuel filter - never tightened it on & left the line cramped/blocked. I came home after a couple weeks on vacation to a half a tank of gas all over the ground, all over my engine & gas sitting on electric wires... had I turned my car over I could have easily blown up! No joke. Not okay at all. I spent a morning with rags trying to dry it out so I could leave my driveway after I defused the fuel filter line nightmare by re-routing the line. Bob was dismissive of it when I told him. Also hooked up brake lines in reverse - making the back brakes go off before the front ones = fish tail ! I spent roughly $19,000 grand at this establishment and regretting it. Bad brake job. Bad alignment. You can never go wrong with a good handshake business model. I took my car (which just had over 2000 dollars of work done to the front suspension) to Big Brand for an alignment (I was trying to restore my faith in them). They told me I needed 300 dollars worth of further repair work before it could get aligned. That sounded interesting seeing as I had so much work done recently, so I took my car to Cory Motors, they said everything looked fine and it could be aligned no problem, and referred me to Superior. I went and asked them if their company offered a competitive three year alignment. The owner, Bob, said something along the lines of: we don't want to trick you into a three year alignment plan just to get more business from you...if you have a problem with your alignment and aren't happy with it, we are good for it, and he reached out to shake my hand. That was all I needed. I dropped my car off, was called when the alignment was done, and everything is working great! PS, don't be turned away by their storefront. Came here with my son for a front wheel alignment on a 1965 Mustang after we rebuilt the front suspension. Requires a lot of mechanical shims. When I called, they knew exactly what was needed and the price was right. Lot is very small, but we were able to squeeze in. Talking to a few of the mechanics, they really seem to know cars, including vintage ones, and are not just following manuals like a lot of places - I felt very confident leaving the car in their hands. The owner seems to be quite the honorable mechanic. He agreed on a good price to install front end steering parts on my car even though I brought in the parts (many shops do not do that as it is a separate profit method) It was obvious after working on the car that the job was going to be a LOT more complicated but he stuck to the original decent price and after spending more hours than anticipated delivered the finished job at the agreed price. Very impressed by their honesty! We recently bought a 2009 Honda EX-L coupe for our daughter. I drove it last weekend, found the ride harsher than my usual car, and thought that the shocks might need replacing after 82,000 miles. Yesterday, Bob drove the Honda, looked it over, and told me that the shocks were fine. He pointed out that the EX-L coupe was a "sport" model with a much stiffer suspension than the typical Honda. Superior could have replaced all the shocks, struts and mounts and charged me $1,000 and I would have been none the wiser. It is so refreshing to encounter this level of honesty. read more

I started going to these guys probably 2 years ago bringing my 66 Chevy c10 in, and since then I have not gone anywhere else for mechanical repairs. They do a lot more than just suspension and alignment work, and are incredibly honest and fair, and will never upsell you. Really good people that are very knowledgeable, I've stopped by there plenty of times when my truck was broken down to ask to borrow some tools and they always helped me out no questions asked. These guys are legit!!! Not only was I amazed at the pricing for alignment (only $60-something?), they let me come into the garage and watch everything. He had a little extra time so he showed me what he was doing, and even answered my unrelated car questions. After visiting a couple of other brake and alingment shops , all booked until the next day, I called in here and they helped me out the same day with out an appointment! Not only did they help me out with out an appointment but also took the time to check out my front end, I explained to them I was hearing a sound when I turned a full turn to the right , they explained to me that my steering rack was leaking and my inner rod might need to be replaced, instead of trying to get me to pay them to do or suggest anything radical, they advice I look into getting my rack up replaced as it comes with new inner rods, but said it was not urgent. Its very hard to find honest help nowadays, but these guys are of the few left! I was quite impressed they did not try to make me spend more than I needed. Great and honest business here! read more

I brought in my new-to-me 1994 Ford Escort, I knew it needed some brake work and wanted an inspection. These guys gave my car a new life-- the difference in driving after I picked it up was day and night! DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THESE GUYS PERIOD. I have never in my life had a worse experience than with this shop. I have a mid 60s Pontiac. Was told they work on classics. I needed a simple swap to electronic ignition from points and for them to check basic wires and electrical. I brought the protronix ignition conversion. I called them in AM to confirm/see if they can do the job this day. I was told to go there at 2pm. I arrive and the guy starts telling me well I'm bky sure if my guys can do it. This after I was told over phone to come at 2. He makes me sit around for an hour while he says he'll see what he can do. Then -he says okay my guy can do it. The car was on a trailer and it was a pretty easy straightforward job. It's a job that is a 45 min deal for any competent mechanic. The price agreed was 1 hour labor-110.00. Then the guy goes to work. I see him spending most of his time reading on the internet-was clear he was not very clued in on the job despite claiming he was. It took him 2 and 1/2 hours. Then after all of this he discovered that the hot lead wire to my ignition was bad but says he's going home. This is the first thing he should have tested before he started mind you. He didn't dial in the timing, left my distributor loose and then left my old coil in the front part of my engine compartment on top of firewall. When closed hood it was damaged. The owner comes out claiming they want to be paid 2 hours labor and gives me attitude when I show him the damage his guy caused to the hood. He left my timing completely screwed and the car now runs horrible and has many more issues. Avoid at all costs. Horrible experience. read more

I have been taking my vehicles to this shop for over 30 years and the work has always been done right and on time. Bob the owner is usually always there and available to talk to and his technicians are great! Every time I take my truck in they are careful with it and we go over what is going to be done and the mechanics explain everything to me so I understand. They have never tried to get me to do something extra that I didn't need. Bob is very honest and because of that I won't go anywhere else. The mechanics are top notch and friendly. I was told by a local tire store after buying 4 new tires for my 4x4 tacoma that I needed to replace my left front inner tie rod and rack and pinion bushing before they could align my vehicle. The job would cost $500+. I brought my vehicle to Superior and they test drove the vehicle and put it on a lift within minutes. After a thorough clearly explained inspection and an alignment test, they said that everything was ok. Superior is clearly very competent and honest shop and I recommend them. read more

It has been many months since I changed my brake pads on my car, so while in Santa Barbara, CA, I went to visit Superior Brake. The owner, Bob Seagoe was very nice, so he asked me to return the following day and he would check my car. The next day I left my car. When I returned in the afternoon, he said I did not need any pads and my brakes were fine. I asked how much did I owe for him checking my car, and he said no charge. I told him that a person has to be paid for his time. Bob told me again no charge, but I did pay him $ for his time. It is nice to find a honest person. I have really mixed feelings about this place. I try not to leave negative reviews about a spot unless I am totally unwilling to return & give it another go, but after 3 tries, I have moved on. The first time I took my car to Superior Brake, my dad set everything up. I had just moved away from home in my very first car & he wanted to make sure I was going somewhere legit, so he called around, got quotes, & made me the appt. I dropped my car off & everything went as planned; great price, great service, done on time. I was so stoked & felt confident I could recommend them to others. The second time I brought my car here, I dropped her off at 730a. I was off at 2 that day & was told I could for sure pick it up then. They quoted me $350 at the desk, but also told me they'd call me once it was actually opened up to tell me how much it would cost before any moves were made. 2p rolls around & I haven't heard anything, so I called over to see what was up. The way they said "oh, yeah, that car" made it obvious they hadn't started yet - or they'd forgotten altogether. I had the afternoon free so it wasn't a big deal, but I didn't hear from them again until 515 when they called & pressed me to get there quick so they could close up. Without even explaining what was wrong w my car, they asked me for $750. When I asked why my quote was so much less, they couldn't really give me an answer. It was basically just the, "Oh, you know how it goes" thing, saying that they needed to open her up first, & they were really busy that day, & basically just pay them. I was not at all prepared to drop that kind of cash but what else could I do? To their credit, they did let me pay only $500 that day & call in the rest on my credit card the next morning. But that was only because I welled up at the desk saying I couldn't pay that, & they still made me feel like they were doing me a huge favor. The last time I brought my car here, my engine light was on & I was told a coil needed replacing. After an entire day at the shop, I turn her on & see that the engine light is still on. They'd closed up for the day but said I could bring it back tomorrow. Next morning, they run a bunch of tests while I wait, & inform me that there's a leak in my motor somewhere (but can't tell me where) so I'm basically better off selling the car for parts & getting a new one. Then they're just like "k good luck bye." My car is not even 10 years old, so I obviously start to panic, as this was not at all what I was expecting to hear after yesterday's "easy fix." They then suggest I find a rebuilt motor & they say they'll contact "their people" to see if they know of any at a good price. I'm about to drive away with my engine light flashing (!!!) when I think about this coil. Why did they replace it if my car didn't need that service? Isn't it their entire job to know what my car needs? They flat out refuse to give me any money back; their explanation: "Well, it's what led us to the bigger problem. Plus we ordered & paid for that coil." To me, this seems unfair. They did offer to "maybe" credit the $375 I paid towards the rebuilt motor, if we decided to go that route. They say they'll call me, but they NEVER DID. I called back a week later & Chris (their "receptionist" if you will) had clearly forgotten to start looking, so he says he'll call me back in a few days. I called back another week later, & he still had no information for me. I obviously was not getting that rebuilt motor OR any of my money back. I can't help but wonder how differently I would have been treated if my dad was never involved. I won't call it sexism, but I really believe that they tried to capitalize on my lack of knowledge about cars. This frustrates me because I have recommended this place to so many people, & Santa Barbara is a city that takes good care of its local businesses. I will not return, but hope their current customers are satisfied. I finally gave up & went to another shop in Goleta. Straight away, they told me that this issue was totally fixable & did NOT require a new motor - just a couple new valves. Yes, it would be expensive, but I could get many more years out of my car after just a few days of experienced TLC. They also told me that my original coil should have been put back in my car after learning that a new one would serve literally no purpose. Work Done: alignment, new tires, new rear shocks, new control arm bushings. Logistics: called them yesterday, took my car in this morning, picked it up after work at about 4:30. They are open from 7:30 to 5. Why i gave it the score i did: My repairs were done by such a pro, I literally said "WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW..." the entire drive home. My car is now so crisp in every movement, every bump, every curve! If you are looking for a trustworthy mechanic, this is where you need to take your car in SB. Mike and Bob are *awesome* !!! I was coming from San Diego to visit in Montecito when my car/brakes started making a horrible sound. After getting to the house, a quick yelp search came up with Superior Brake and Alignment. The reviews were way higher and uniformly so. I popped over there and they squeezed me in and did what they could to diagnose my problem despite never having worked on my car before. In fact, they busted their ass for me. Bob is a diagostician of almost magical skill. After "hearing" my problem he fixed it and I was on my way with my vacation barely interrupted. My car was damaged by a hit-and-run driver resulting in a severe wobble when driving 40 miles per hour, so I needed advice on what to do. I found Bob at Superior Brake & Alignment via the Built Rite Auto Body shop. He proved much more knowledgeable than a previously visited big-chain tire store where they couldn't figure out that the tire balance weight had fallen off, causing the wobble. I went to Superior Brake and Alignment because I was leaving town, needed my repair done right away and wasn't able to get in with my regular mechanic. I scheduled an appointment with Superior for a front and rear brake job, (which I was told I needed ASAP,) as well as to figure out why it felt like my tire was about to fall off whenever I went over a speed bump. When I arrived Chris asked about my repairs and wanted to check out the car before giving me a written estimate. I waited for the other shoe to drop, anticipating them finding more issues, second guessing whether I should have brought a guy with me, (we all know the stories about women getting taking advantage of my mechanics!) Following a quick inspection I was told I actually didn't need my rear brakes done, I had a least 5,000 miles on them, and even my front brakes could go another thousand. Also, the tire thing was nowhere near as serious as I had anticipated. Long story short, I would have been the easiest mark, came in saying I needed several expensive repairs, was resolved to pay the big bucks but instead was told that this was not the case.
