A new restaurant taking over the old Electric Chicken spot. Counter service, but it seems like they give you real plates and silverware if you dine in. While the menu looks solid, all the sweets in the cases are really tempting. Avocado Feta: Very green! The avocado helps temper the tangy feta while still being fatty. However, the green olive bits completely break that counterbalance, adding their own bitter tang. Definitely has a personality. Spicy Feta: Probably my favorite dip. Classic feta and lots of nice spices. Could easily be a party dip. Tasted great against the warm pita. Mediterranean Burrata: I thought this was supposed to come with pomegranate sauce, but it was literally a mini burrata resting on some arugula. Don't get me wrong, burrata is awesome, but it just felt bland compared to everything else. Muhammara: A solid mezze considering there is no cheese. The roasted red peppers give it a nice taste base and the walnuts add a nice texture. Anatolian Cheese Borek: Really interesting texture with wisps of dough and melty cheese in between. Warmed up before it's served, so it's full of comfort. Sauteed Shrimp: So much drama with this dish. First it took them forever (when my other dish came out quickly). Then they bring me the shrimp tempura. Then they finally get it right. Was tasty though. Nice tomatoey and slightly smoky sauce. Lots of halve roasted grape tomatoes and a few olives. Shrimp was a little charred which was nice. Meat Doner Wrap: I was glad to see that this the meat was slices of real meat slabs, rather than that weird gyro meatloaf. Lots of flavor. The griddled wrap really added a nice element of crunch and smokiness. A little light on the sauce, but that side of garlicky hot sauce paired very well. Kofte Bowl: Tasty little hockey pucks of spiced meat grilled crispy. Pairs perfectly with the yogurt sauce. Lots of salad, with a subtle dressing, to make you feel healthy. And enough rice to add some carb substance. Fries: Crispy, medium thickness and light seasoning. A good palate cleanser between bites. Chocolate Raspberry Cake: Looks rich. And it tastes rich! Chocolate cake, generous amounts of raspberry sauce layers and white cheesecake-like light layers too. They're open late-ish, so a perfect snack after a show. Baklava: Dense nut center. Flaky on top. Moist on the bottom. Perfect for a sweet tooth. Turkish Tea: Light and herbal. A nice palate cleanser between bites a rich lunch main.

    Halal Beef Bacon Burrito

As an avid breakfast person, I was so glad this place opened up by my work. I popped in during their soft opening to ask for their hours and menu and they were so kind and helpful. I eventually popped back in on a Friday morning for a pistachio latte, halal beef bacon burrito, and I believe it was a potato pastry. It's definitely pricey and cost me almost $30. As someone who prefers sweet drinks, the pistachio latte had a light hint of pistachio and was definitely strong. I was expecting bacon like meat but they were sliced pieces of beef and actually really flavorful and fulfilling. I was full from eating half of it! The potato pastry just wasn't for me. I would definitely come back for the breakfast burrito, but this would be an every blue moon thing just because it's personally expensive for me to splurge on it often. The interior is beautiful and feels very cozy.

There's a newish stop in the city for Turkish breakfast! I tried the Kavurma and eggs which was a super hot skillet serving tender cooked beef with runny fried eggs. Some flat bread was also served on the side to scoop everything up. Their pistachio latte had a nice flavor with plenty of pistachio paste for yummy flavor. The cozy cafe also had a beautiful case of pastry and dessert that I will have to try next time. Service was friendly. They will take a bit of time to cooke everything to order.

Easier than any finest dining restaurants.

I imagine what SUR café was like; many different ways to cater everyone's palates. Soups, salads, pastries, sandwiches, wraps, entrees, and mezze plates; whichever we get to choose is what satisfies the servers in the kitchen. The only hole-in-the-wall in the Financial District will be everyone's one-stop dining destination. Cash acceptance, walk-ins; ready to swing by anytime. Be sure to look at my pictures below and feel free to share your thoughts about how good SUR Mediterranean really is.

    Salmon bowl

So grateful that I discovered this hidden gem looking through Google Maps! As soon as we walked in, we were greeted so warmly. The owners were quick to walk us through the menu. He recommended the salmon bowl ($18.99 before tax and tip). I was absolutely stunned when the food came out. Not only because of the massive portion but also because of how fresh everything looked. The plate actually somehow tasted better than it looked. Acidic refreshing salad with the most delectable buttery rice and a giant perfectly cooked salmon all in one dish. Yum! Selfishly I hope this place stays hidden, but I think everyone deserves to try this place out.

This was my first time here and OMG ITS SO GOOD!!!!! I got the grilled chicken wrap and the avocado salad, which tasted so fresh and you can tell it was made with love! The wrap has a nice grill on it too. The salad dress was so yummy and unique!!! The food came out in less than 10 mins and the team here was super kind and nice when I asked questions about the menu. Great service, cozy vibes and super clean! I'll definitely be back!!!

It was like eating in a private garden, surrounded by a nice floral arrangement. The food was superb. Highest quality. The salad appetizers were fresh & crunchy. The feta cheese & small lavash breads were a great way to start. See the mains in the photos. My lamb chops & beef/lamb skewer was excellent. My sons raved about their salmon & beef. The rice was perfect: real longer grained basmati, delicately spiced, with hints a saffron. I loved the roasted tomato, raw onions, cilantro, & mint leaves. Of course plenty of lavash. Easily a 4.5. I'd give a 5, but my wife said her chicken was a little dry. Still tasty, especially with her rice that had raisins, dates, & lentils. Maybe nit picking, but overall good. The Napoleon with a scoop of raspberry ice cream was excellent. This Napoleon wasn't so creamy, but more about layers of cake. More complex than the usual variant. I'm a fan. The drinks were on point. Great ambiance & waiter. Great portions & value for this level of quality. Lavash takes pride in what they do. We will be back for great Persian cuisine.

It is not a sit-down restaurant and doesn't pretend to be. What it is, is consistently excellent food at prices that still make sense in a city where that's getting rare. We're regulars, and we usually go on Sunday evenings after my girlfriend gets off work. Falafel wrap and chicken shawarma are our usual order -- the falafel has that crisp-shell, tender-middle thing going, and the wraps are generously built. We've branched out plenty and everything we've tried has been good. The other reason we keep showing up is the people. Turna usually takes our order, and she is genuinely lovely -- friendly in a way that isn't a customer-service script. My girlfriend and I always walk out in a better mood than we walked in with, which is worth a lot. Practical notes: halal, lots of vegetarian and vegan-friendly options, open until midnight Fri/Sat, and they cater. Grab some napkins if you're eating the wrap on the move -- it's a big one, and that's a compliment.

The service was friendly and welcoming even when our party came at different times. The restaurant wasn't busy given it was a Monday evening, so you would think it would go smoothly. *** OUR PICKS *** COMBO APPETIZER PLATTER ~ hummus, baba ghanouj, haydari, ezme, dolmas, merimek, falafel ~ parts of the platter were cold while the falafel was warm, but they topped it off with a sauce that didn't keep the falafel crispy, instead it softened it. I think the sauce should have been on the side. The rest of the dish was good. 4/5 LAMB KEBAB PLATE ~ this was my dish. I touched my skewers thinking they were going to be hot, but it was surprisingly cold. I'm not sure why skewers would be cold when the food should be hot right off the grill. The lamb was cooked medium rare as I requested, though there was little to no seasoning. So it was kind of gamey and tasteless 3/5 RACK OF LAMB PLATE ~ my partner chose this dish. The lamb was also very light in seasoning. The pistachio rice was interesting and nutty. Asparagus was good. 3.5/5 MIXED GRILL PLATE ~ our friend enjoyed this dish. Maybe a mixed grill is the way to go and some meats cooked and seasoned better than others. 4/5 BEEF KEBAB PLATE ~ the beef was also room temperature and lightly seasoned. 3.5/5 SALMON ~ I tried some of this and it was decent. 4/5 BAKLAVA & CHOCOLATE MOUSSE CAKE ~ Nice birthday surprise and a sweet way to end the meal. Baklava wasn't as crispy or flaky as some I've had, but the honey-pistachio nuts were good. Chocolate mousse cake was decadent and moist. 4/5 Beautiful presentation on the plating of our food, though the timing for the food wasn't quite right as a few plates were served room temperature and not hot. However, the surprise desserts were a nice touch in helping us celebrate a birthday!
