We went on Friday during lunch time and though busy, we were quickly seated and the wait staff was friendly and attentive without being intrusive. We ordered the large combination platter, large bowl of chicken lemon soup and veggie kebab plate. Every item was delicious! The rice was some of the best rice I have ever eaten and the chicken lemon soup was WOW! It was clear that each dish was made with fresh ingredients. Be aware that though tofu is an ingredient listed in vege kebab, each kebab only contains 1 piece of tofu. Meal was the lovely combination of being both light and filling. Celebrating Independence Day 2025, we participated in the annual Fillmore Jazz Festival this past weekend on glorious sunny (no Carl the Fog) listening to amazing Jazz, classical, Rock n Roll and all varieties of music, food, arts & crafts. Despite the abundance of food vendors we decided to have a late lunch at La Mediterranee on Fillmore Street. Fortunately, we were able to immediately secure a outside table on the busy festive sidewalk. Our server Kiara (from Peru) and our dear companion instantly connected speaking Spanish. We knew that our experience was going to be VERY fun and exceptional! My wife and I have been to this Pacific Heights location numerous times over the decades and we always are excited to experience their service and cusine. Kiara's incredible smile, menu recommendations and attitude was perfect! Her recommendation selections based on listening to our dietary needs and preferences were spot on! We ordered the larger sample platter "Mediterranean Meza" which included Hummus, Baba Ghanoush, Tabuleh, Falafel, Armenian Potato Salad, Dollar Grape Leaf, Spinach & Feta Fillo, Rice Pilaf, Chicken Cilicia, Lamb Lule and Chicken Pomegranate and my favorite Avgolemono Soup (traditional Greek chicken and lemon soup). ALL the dishes were SPECTACULAR! Period. The location listening to the Jazz Festival music, watching the huge crowds passing on the side walk and commenting how delicious our meal appeared made for a relaxing Sunday afternoon delightful experience. Between the four of us the plates were totally consumed with culinary pleasure. The service by our Peruvian server, Kiara, made our afternoon like being in the shores of The Mediterranean and perfect in every way. Some of the best Mediterranean food I've had in the city! Their famous pomegranate chicken is so juicy and moist, falls right off the bone! It also comes with a generous portion of rice and potato salad, which were both delicious. My entree was about $24 not including tax and tip. This was definitely a pricier meal after all added fees but I would visit again. Servers were friendly and although the restaurant isn't the largest, there is plenty of outdoor seating. Do keep in mind that for larger parties, there is an automatic 25% gratuity, on top of all other sales tax and SF city taxes. (9/10) Chickpeas - They have these for free, it was such a good snack I would totally just buy a bag of this for myself, salted and lemony, they were roasted to the point that just taking a small bite just made them crumble into dust. (8/10) Middle Eastern Plate - I got it with the lamb lule and Greek chicken soup. The fillo/baklava was crispy (the powdered sugar was interesting) and the soup was steaming hot. The lamb was not bad, but I think I prefer lamb in general outside of meatball form. (7.5/10) Muhalabiye - Got this to-go since I was too full from the main plate, incredibly creamy, very strong rosewater scent which threw me off since I don't normally eat Middle Eastern food. Would've been better to eat this right when it came out. The food was good but it was a bit expensive, I would've spent around $40 including tax and tip if I didn't have a promotion. I didn't realize this until after but my company has catered from them before and the food was pretty good too. The restaurant itself is really narrow and there's a door that one could easily walk past without realizing. My friend and I decided to come to La Med for a quick dinner after watching a movie. We shared the Mediterranean Meza for two. It's probably the most affordable tasting menu in the city ($29 per person with a 2 person minimum). It came in four plates: (1) hummus, tabuleh and baba ghanoush, (2) falafel, dolma and Armenian potato salad, (3) chicken pomegranate, lamb lule and rice pilaf, and (4) chicken cilicia fillo and spinach and feta fillo. There's so much to like in this tasting menu but the highlight for me was the chicken cilicia fillo - it reminded me of a chicken bastilla and it was great. The dips were great and they gave us plenty of pita and veggies. The pomegranate chicken was tasty comfort food. The lamb lule was a little underwhelming for me and lamb is usually a signature item for a middle eastern place. The falafel was OK but I've had better. Overall, this was a great and relatively healthy feast. Service was fast - we were in and out in less than an hour. The restaurant is cozy and can get loud when busy. When my dog needs testing or surgery at Animal Medical Center on Fillmore and they need to keep him for a couple of hours I usually go across the street to Choquet's. But I wasn't in the mood today for French Onion Soup and noticed that one of my old faves, La Mediterranee, was just a block down and that was an easy decision. I used to go to the location in the Castro all the time, always enjoyed it, although it's been a minute. But this location is so delightful -- when you walk in, the way the space is constructed and decorated, and all the incandescent lighting, it's very warm and welcoming, and, at least today, they were playing old standards like Dinah Washington's "What A Diff'rence A Day Makes" and the feeling inside was magical. I had the Mediterranean Plate with one spinach and two chicken fillo pastries and it came with a bit of hummus and some toasted pita points and choice of soup, I got the basic Avgolemono soup. The soup was fantastic, as was the hummus and, although I'm spoiled by Oren's Hummus' super thick pita, the basic thin pita they have here was so perfectly toasted I really enjoyed it. Now, with the fillo -- the spinach was awesome ... the chicken one, however, was very dry, I couldn't eat it. I brought it to the attention of the very lovely server and he said, oh, we actually have a fresher batch, and he brought me two replacements and, yeah, WAY better, and I mostly enjoyed it, so that ended well. I say 'mostly' above only because I'm one of those 'white meat chicken snobs' who doesn't care for dark meat and they use dark meat for these filo. Wish they'd have chicken breast as an option and I feel it would make these filo perfection. But that didn't destroy the overall feeling here, which I needed today after a tough week, and I appreciate all the good folks here for making the effort to make this a wonderful experience. read more

This place is just okay. The staff are amazing for sure. The inside is cramped and awkward. The fried chickpeas rock, the tzaki is excellent. The lamb kabab is fantastic. The chicken plate is just so so. It is not meaty, well grilled kebabs, but more like sautéed chicken strips. It tasted fine, but not what were were expecting. The wine list is very mediocre. This close to Napa Valley, a restaurant has no excuse not to offer great wine. Except unless they simply do not care. Where they really fail is on the rice pilaf. It is sickly sweet with no other flavors. It was inedible. The salad is just blah. Really outstanding Mediterranean places never fail on the rice nor the salad. Add some sumac, do something, anything, but gosh stop with what you are currently serving for rice and salad. With such great, personable staff, and the ability to sit outside once the weather is nice, you could have an amazing place I would would make a point of becoming a regular.
