My fiance and I took a knives class. The description on their website was vague and reviews were not helpful. I didn't know what to expect. Set up, presentation, and food were excellent. The class was okay. It was for very beginners that have never touched a knife or cut food before. My fiance didnt take away anything from the class, but enjoyed that they could use over 10 knives to try. I was happy I could try different knives to, to see what suited me best. The teacher was probably a great chef, but not the best teacher. She did not know vocabualry well. I dont think it was worth 50$ a person. I expected to learn more on how to use knives with meat, veggies, carving, sharpening, and fruit with general knowledge. We cut mostly veggies and an orange. read more

My husband signed us up to take a class on our 22nd anniversary. We've always thought taking a cooking class would be a fun thing to do. The class was $79 each and the menu was Arugula and almond salad with spiced blackberries Seared steak with parsley cilantro oil Spice roasted carrots with harissa yogurt And plum galette with amaretto cream Pretty much everything was a compleat failure and was revolting! The "chef" teaching the class had never made these recipes. You do very little of the actual meal prep, for the steak my husband and I sprinkles salt, pepper and a revolting amount of cinnamon yes you read that right cinnamon on steak. The spice amounts seemed all wrong the the teacher seemed very confused. Oh did you think for $80 a person you were eating dinner? Nope!! You get a very small taste of the food you made. We thought it was odd when the guy helping the teacher commented that there were only two steaks and three tables. He was informed to just cut them. During the break you wander around the store...and are pretty much ignored by the sales people who get pissed off when you interrupt your personal conversations with the other people who work there. Oh so sorry! I'm just a customer who's looking to buy something at the store, silly me. I could have ordered one of those meal delivery services and pulled up the video on YouTube and watch them make the dinner and cooked along. And I am pretty positive those dinners will turn out much better! read more

Dear Sur La Table, You did it again... I decided to give this store another try and buy the Instant Pot. I could get it off Amazon (for less) but I wanted to buy local and if there were problems return it easily enough. I looked at some knives and then off to the front corner to get an Instant Pot. I went to the register to ask if there were any on display. I waited patiently as the manager finished with her customer. I got a curt response as the display was behind me and I'd walked right by it. After checking it out and the recommended cookbook I grabbed the HUGE box and put it at the register and waited, and waited, and waited. There were 4-5 other customers in the store, after the associates had rung up their last customers they completely abandoned the registers. The manager was right across the way helping a customer with an on-line order, another was right behind me talking up the coffee machines and the other gal was putting the knives away in the back. Of the two in my area neither could be bothered to look up. All I wanted was an acknowledgement that they'd be over shortly. Nothing. So I put the box back on the display and walked out. Nobody even noticed except the guy with the on-line order who'd been watching me. Even though it's a bit of a drive I think I will be going to any other Sur La Table than this one. read more

First off, I am a slave to cookware. Sur La Table has an amazing selection of everything you could possible be looking for. I've had to call the store a few times for things and the staff has always been very helpful. I think much of any sales experience is much like 'how nice you treat the people around you is the type of help you'll get.' So, say "hi", make eye contact, smile, look up from your phone, it makes getting help from a sales associate easier. I've taken a couple of cooking classes at the Downtown Summerlin location and they may not be as "hands on" as some would like, I find them to be fun and informative. Realistically, they don't have enough space or alloted time for everyone to make everything, so, you get to slice of bits, stir a few bits ... if you're paying attention you will learn something. Most of the items on the menu for the class will take more than 2 hours to prep and prepare, so I don't mind at all that someone else does the prep and clean-up. I'd be more disappointed if I didn't have time to make and taste the end food. OK, some of the instructors are better than others (isn't that always the case), and you may not get partnered with the person you would like (but, hey, reach out and make a new friend, it's fun). That's the thing with people, you may not work well with one, but, you may work better with the next one. It's ok. I'll take a class again and I'll shop there too. read more

COOKING CLASS REVIEW When I realized there were cooking classes here at Sur La Table, I was online the next day looking at options/dates. I figured this would be an awesome date night for me and the girl! Yelp doesn't have any reviews on the cooking classes, so I thought I'd give it a shot and leave a detailed review. Starting with the options online; there were a ton of different cooking classes. My only gripe with the options was the majority of the classes involved pork dishes. (Which I religiously don't eat) Almost all of the non-dessert cooking classes involved some kind of pork, so I was a bit limited. Either way, we both love sushi so we thought we'd go in to learn how to roll sushi. The menu sounded great. California Rolls, Spicy Salmon Roll, and Vegetable hand roll. The price was $79, more expensive than most cooking classes offered from Sur La Table but I figured why not? Dinner and a great date night and the girl would be happy! What a disappointment! First of all, the set up. For some reason, I'm not sure if it was a lack of equipment, but they had everyone sharing large bowls to keep aside chopped vegetables. So the vegetables that I chopped up with my hands for mine and my girls sushi, was mixed into the vegetables that the people next to us had chopped up with their hands for their sushi. GROSS!!!!!! It made her and I not even want to eat the sushi, right off the bat! Next, the instructor. David Barbour. He told us that he's not so great at rolling some of the sushi. Told us he did all these recipes "last night" and is a certified PASTRY chef. I'm sorry, but if I'm paying $79 a PERSON for this, why am I being taught by someone that has only done this once at home? Next, the materials. There were about 20 people in the class, for which Sur La Table provided around 8-10oz of salmon.....FOR THE WHOLE CLASS. The "spicy salmon roll" was more of a rice roll with the smallest sliver of salmon for each roll. Another big disappointment. And nothing was added to the roll to make it spicy. When I asked the instructor, is this all the salmon we had? He insisted, it's not about the amount of fish in the roll, it's about making sure all of the flavors come through. (Yeah, right) Okay sure, even if that's the case, there was so little salmon that you could hardly taste it in the roll! Next, they said the avocados they had were too ripe so they couldn't provide us any avocado for our rolls since they need to be firm and not mushy... Another mess up by Sur La Table. Overall, this class was very very frustrating and not at all worth the price. From the way it was run, it seemed like they were trying to save every dollar they could! With the little amount of salmon provided, to the sharing of vegetables between everyone in the classroom, to hiring a pastry chef to do the work of a real sushi chef, it was a HUGE disappointment and a big waste of money. My girl and I walked away knowing how to roll sushi, but hungry and disappointed with the quality of the cooking class. My friends and family are so happy I advised them not to waste their money by signing up for the Sur La Table cooking classes and I hope this helps yelppers understand what they're getting into! I only gave it 2 stars because of the amazing selection of products offered at Sur La Table. I love the store! read more

I took a cooking class with my friend. We made scallops, corn risotto and blueberry cobbler. I was very disappointed that we had to work in large teams. We were on a team of 4. Had one person chop, one whisk, one add wine etc and so on. You pay $70 for a cooking class, but mostly watch. Chef Deborah was nice and she did throw in some tips, but I would have liked (expected) to actually practice the techniques, not watch someone else. I gave it 3 stars because of the tips, but if not for that a one and one-half star. I learned how to cook the actual scallops from Chef's team, who were really great. Absolutely not worth 70 bucks! I love the store and expected a class where I would be much more involved. read more

A fan because of the selection and assortment of all kinds of stuff for the kitchen. For me, most of the big ticket items like mixers, pots/pans sets, etc are way to expensive. I could find comparable quality for much less in other stores. But if you need one of those off the cuff strange utensils, chances are they have it. They do have a good selection of clearance stuff that is usually a good bargain. Always fun to browse here, whether I pick something up or not depends, but it's still fun! read more

I love that there is a sur la table in town other than fashion show mall!! This excites me, especially since this location has a demo kitchen in which you can take cooking classes. The demo kitchen is nice but they put up to 20+ people in there and in my opinion for the price you pay for the class they should be putting 12 people in, max. But all their classes are on sale for the grand opening (good news) but they are all sold out (bad news)!! You get 10% off merchandise on the day you take class so I will be taking advantage of this!! read more

What happened to customer service in overpriced stores? I was not greeted by anyone in the store. On top of that there are boxes all over the floor. I can't even walk through the store without tripping over all the boxes. After hours should be a time to stock selves instead of causing fall hazards. read more

I gave my wife a gift of a macaron baking class for Christmas. The class started at 10:00 a.m. It was right on time. The staff offers coffee and tea and was incredibly friendly. Chef Louis was in charge of the class and he was wonderful. Very friendly, patient and knowledgeable. It was great hearing the science behind everything involved in making these little cookies. I've always heard that they're difficult to make, but Chef Louis made it pretty easy. My wife and I are very confident we can make these at home now! There are tons of cooking classes that range from homemade pasta to traditional Korean dishes. I highly recommend attending one that catches your eye. read more

I think of Sur La Table as williams-sonoma's cousin... they have a lot of the same things... sur la table also has a lot more lower price point options, more gadgety type things and more seasonal items where WS has basically the same stock year round. I do find I need to seek out help here though rather than being approached by sales staff. read more

I took the cooking class Ti Amo Tuscany. The food they cooked and the food they describe were quite different. For pancetta they used fatty bacon, for flank steak they used some kind of beef that was tough, For arugula it was butter leaf. I'm sure there were other ways they cut the Costs. The shining star was the instructor. She was thorough and professional and friendly. I would not recommend the cooking class and less it was on how to do recipe substitutions read more

Not the most friendly or helpful staff.. I went up to the counter to ask a question on a sale item and the girls at the register were too busy to even notice I was standing right in front of them, so I walked away and found another staff member, she ended up helping me.. It wasn't the first time this has happened at this particular store, the staff at the Fashion Show Mall are much friendlier and helpful compared to this one, I just hate going to the strip , and this location is only 5 minutes from home.. I haven't been moved to write a Yelp review in a long time. This is about the cooking class I just came home from. 2.5 hours NO WINE. Totally not okay. Our class was unusually small, only 6 people. I know there are much larger classes so I know they have more burners. But they opted to only have two burners, three people per burner. This forced me to not work with my friend I came with (since there were two romantic couples there, kind of by default) and instead work with a couple I didn't know and did not really want to get to know, although I'm sure they're lovely. No thanks. No wine, nervous chef, gave me anxiety. There was not a lot of hands on actual cooking and we ate standing up. Not a happy time at all. read more

We took a date night cooking class. The food turned out delicious and I will make the recipes again but for the cost it was really not worth it. I don't think I would take another class unless some changes were made. The class was $85 per person ($170 for a couple). We had to share a station with another pair and so we didn't really get to cook the whole meal. I would have liked it more if each of the pairs had their own cooking station and ingredients to prepare. For a lot of the time 3 of the four of our group were just standing there watching or dumping spices into a mixture. Additionally the class we took was called new American steakhouse (or something along those lines) and we only got half a steak in the end. For $85 a person I thought we would each get our own steak and be able to cook our whole meal. I understand there are time constraints and so some of the preparation is completed by the sur la table sous chefs but ultimately I don't think I would pay for another cooking class because of the format and the amount of money. read more

I enjoyed my cooking class at Sur La Table. I picked this certain class because I liked what was on the menu and wanted to learn more about cooking those items. Everything was delicious and although it wasn't 100% hands-on since there were his assistants helping out, we had some practice and the majority was a demo. The instructor was friendly and explained things thoroughly, allowing for many questions. I especially liked how he was picky about sanitation and had us wash our hands at certain points and reminded us to do so if we were to touch certain things like our cell phones, etc. I've been to some cooking classes where the instructor or students would touch things like their cell phone, hair, face, etc. and would not wash their hands yet would touch the food that we would eat. My few gripes is I wish they would extend the time period to use the discount for future classes. You had to sign up while you were there for $20 off. Also, hand classes are pricey for not having much hands-on experience. read more

Attended the "Making Pizza at Home" cooking class with Chef Devy. Over all the cooking class was just ok. There were about 13 people in the class total. One thing I didn't like about the class was the "shared ingredients". There was three people at my station, two of which I didn't know. We shared the first pizza that we made together. Which meant they had to eat the pizza dough that I rolled with my hands. Granted, I washed my hands several times throughout the class and made sure not to scratch my face or touch my hair, but not everyone was as self conscious...yikes! When it came to putting on our pizza toppings which were in shared bowls for the entire class, they did instruct us to wear gloves, thank God, otherwise, I wouldn't have eaten any pizza. Chef Devyn was very enthusiastic throughout the whole 2-hour class and gave us some good tips and tricks on making everything from the dough, pizza sauce, and preparing the toppings. He even gave us tips on how to best freeze ingredients to store for later. I did though, at times feel that he was pushing a lot of the products to buy in the store, but I guess that can be expected since it was a cooking class inside of a retail store. I enjoyed the class for the most part. This was my first experience going to a cooking class so I don't have anything else to compare it with. Not sure if the price was on par with other cooking classes or not. I'll probably do more research for other options in the future, but I might try another class here, if I am in the mood to burn $69 on a 2-hour class. read more

I took a cooking class today with my boyfriend. I loved it. I had a lot of fun, and learned super useful information. I loved my instructor. The class I took only had 4 people, so it was very intimate. I did think prior to coming here, that each person would be making their own dish. Instead, you work in a group. So all four people worked together on the same meal. I didn't really love that, but it was fine. It worked out well, and everyone was very friendly. The main thing that made me give this only 3 stars was the fact that YOU CANT TAKE THE FOOD YOU MADE AND PAID FOR HOME WITH YOU. They said something about "liabilities if you eat the food after leaving and get sick". If that's the case, then why don't they just have everyone sign a waiver?! These classes are not cheap, at all. In fact, they are very expensive. Everyone in my group had so much food leftover, it was ridiculous. They just throw the food away that people don't eat (no one said that they throw it away, but I think it's safe to assume that if they won't let you take it, they won't feed it to anyone else) I really can't believe that. It's such a sin to waste that much food. Our instructor said that sometimes there's a lot to eat after, and other times there's not much at all. Either way, you paid for it, so it really should be yours. It's ridiculous and it's a waste of perfectly good food. I'm sure they have enough resources to be able to hire a lawyer to write up a waiver dismissing all and any liabilities for anyone once they leave with the food they made (and paid for). If they don't let you take the food home, then they really shouldn't make the prices that high. And if the liability thing is really the case, restaurants wouldn't be in business....Aside from that, I would probably take another class. It was fun and informative. I just wish I knew some things before going there so I could better prepare. read more

Took Secrets of Thai Cooking. Wasn't my favorite type of food before but am hooked now! Chef Calvin, our instructor was not only knowledgable about every facet of the food preparation but he also gave great insights on the culture & influences and was very skilled in teaching cooking techniques. He made us feel comfortable cooking a type of food which was formerly intimidating for my wife and myself. The assistants were extremely on spot in helping the class run very smoothly. Everyone made us feel very special and Chef Calvin was very attentive to any and all questions from all participants. It was a delicious evening and we will be returning for another of Chef Calvins classes very soon. I highly recommend checking these classes out. Truly worth the cost! read more

The store itself was fantastic! Can't beat all of the amazing gadgets. The cooking class left much to be desired. The table tops were to small. And they put four of us together to make one meal. So if you didn't know the other couple you had to work with this would have been very awkward! They only provided us with a shot glass amount of water probably so a drink doesn't take up space on the already small counter. They provided coffee, tea, and water. I would have loved to have had a different drink. Especially with the amount of money they want to charge per class. The only have a camp fire stove on the stations which was VERY HARD to cook on. The food either cooked to slow or to fast. And 3 of the propane burners in our class went out right in the middle of cooking our meal and had to be replaced. Not at all the kind of work station I was expecting. And had I not gotten the grand opening special and actually paid $60 for this class I would have been livid! Our particular meal was ok, though I won't be making it again at home. And last, after our class, our group went out to eat somewhere else because we got such a small serving! All in all, it was a fun night, but I definitely won't be doing it again. Hopefully they are able to work out some of their kinks..... read more

I've taken 3 classes this past month and each one has been disappointing in some sense but mostly because the food was bland. The staff is friendly, the kitchen area you cook in is nice and well supplied and organized but the end result is disappointing. The donut class resulted in bland tasting blobs of dough, the pasta making class was a good experience to check if I had been doing it correctly at home or could gain some insight to make things easier which it did a little bit the sauce ended up being gross. Next was Chinese take out and half the dishes were just not good and we followed their recipe. I don't know who comes up with the recipes but if you cook at home at all or have eaten at decent restaurants this will be a let down. They give you a discount on purchases and if you register for more classes but after the next one I take if the flavor dint get better I'd have to say they just don't have good enough chefs creating he recipes read more
