Cooking classes here are a fun experience. Yesterday my husband and I enjoyed Tuscan Steak Night at the Kierland Location. Nate who was our chef was very thorough in explaining things and showing different skills such as knife skills. There are all different levels of skill for people taking the class so it's pretty basic but still fun. The classes are typically 2-3 hours long with a couple of breaks. Light snacks and beverages are provided. The cost per person is usually $49-$69-. It's pretty reasonable as you get to sample your food at the end of the class. I say "sample" as it's on the lighter end, not like going to a restaurant and ordering a full meal. Our class had 12 people in attendance. We made an Italian Budini which is similar to a homemade pudding, roasted broccolini, risotto, arugula salad and seared flank steaks. We cooked five medium sized steaks divided for 12 people. My husband and I were the last ones up to plate our food so by the time we plated there was no salad left to sample which was a disappointment as the flank steak was meant to be eaten over the top of the arugula salad. The chef needs to take that in to consideration when ordering the meal components as it was way too little for that many in attendance. As well you're sampling with strangers who may not be very considerate. This was the third cooking/baking class I've taken here so we obviously enjoy ourselves and it's nice to learn a new cooking or baking skill. So far my favorite class was a Croissant class which was very hands on and they were SO good! The chef had two assistants in the kitchen for clean up and help and the two we had yesterday were a bit surly (not very friendly). It would've made a much more fun environment to have people there who enjoy what they're doing. The chef was engaging and fun though so he helped create a nice experience. We will definitely be going back for more classes. The classes would make a great gift idea and you're given a 10% off coupon for anything in the store that day. read more

Great discovery today! Until today I thought that I could only buy pods for my Nespresso coffee brewer through mail order from Nespresso . . . My 'issue' with that system is that customers can order sleeves of 10 pods in quantities of 50 pods at a time. That means that I can buy 50 or 100 . . . always increments of 50. Add to that the shipping fee of $6.95. My discovery today was to learn that I can go into a Sur La Table store and purchase my pod sleeves in any quantity. I live in Goodyear . . . about 40-45 minutes from Scottsdale, but the drive is worth my time so that my husband and I can enjoy an outing and get exactly what we want! Thank you! read more

So after moving from the east coast, I've been dying to take some cooking classes and my manager sent me the link to Sur la Table's schedule. Despite the fact that my first class wasn't all that hands on, I learned some amazing shortcuts and tricks that will be invaluable in all of my cooking. I had an amazing time, it was lighthearted, we laughed, learned, and most of all, our instructor Chef Oralia Cardenas was AMAZING! I want to keep her a secret because I want to be sure I can get into all of her classes but if you love to cook and want to go to a cooking class, go to Sur la Table at Kierland with Chef Oralia Cardenas!! (my class was for the holidays so it was a bit more expensive than the other classes) The one thing that would be nice given that I spent $100 on that class and really am not supposed to eat most of what we cooked would be if they offered to let us take a plate of the leftovers because there were a lot and with 8 people, I think they could've afforded to spare a little extra food for those who paid for it. That's the one and only suggestion I have for thie class. read more

I went in to have my Wusthof knives sharpened. Carol was the person who helped me out. She was absolutely amazing. She was able to quickly sharpen my knives on the same day. I decided to look around and shop while waiting. Carol found me to let me know my knives were ready. When she saw I had a basket full of items, she took out the heavy items and said she'd keep them for me up front. She also asked if she could get me a cappuccino, and I of course said yes. So, she then came back with a little cappuccino that she made using one of their machines. Finally, after checking out, I asked her if she could give me some information on making my own cold brew. She showed me all the options. Seriously, this is the best customer service I have ever received while shopping. I am so impressed and grateful to have met such a kind, knowledgeable, and patient person. read more

Sur La Table ...you sexy thing. You with your flippers, dicers and ooohh ,all that silicone. Boy, do I love your silicone. Blue silicone, green silicone , pink silicone! Being in this store is intoxicating to me. This is a perv store for foodies !! They have everything for those who like get all worked up in the kitchen .No seriously I think they have every kitchen tool, gadget and accessory available. For those who like a little knife action they are the ones to come to. I don't think I have ever not found what I am looking for here. They must have every kind of spatula known to the free world. On my last excursion here I found a new hot little number a silicone universal splatter lid!! Ewww now I have your interest. read more

Attended a ravioli workshop with Chef Demetrio. I'm sure he is a good chef however, in my opinion he is not a good instructor. He gave very little direction. His accent was strong and difficult to understand. The class of sixteen was much too large for him to control on his own. His assistants seemed to do little other than wash dishes. I have attended several cooking classes at different venues and have always had excellent experiences. Not the case with this one. Our finished product was inedible for me. read more

I first stumbled across this place in the Shops at Miracle Mile in Las Vegas. When I got back home I found out we had one just up the road. I have stayed away because it would be all too easy to drop a bunch of money I don't have and add more stuff in my tiny kitchen that is already full. Sunday it was hard to drive by and not stop on my way home from Sweet Republic and I needed a new slotted serving spoon as the ones I keep buying for $3-5 at the Borg rust out in 6-12 months. If it is a gadget they most likely have it. They carry a full range of quality and price. I like the knife selection better at the Knife Shop. They do have a small collection of All-Clad in stock. This is not a bargain place to shop for most things. All of the spoons that fit my criteria were around $10 and made in China. I hope the one I picked holds up better than the lesser expensive ones. This was also my first time at Kierland Commons, you would not know we are in a recession trying to find a parking place on a Sunday afternoon. Bottom line; if you saw it on some cooking show and cannot find it anywhere else they probably have it, at top dollar. Another negative: It only took me 23 minutes to get home which leaves it close enough to be dangerous. :-) read more

Of course, Sur la Table is known for their amazing array of cooking essentials (and non-essentials too!), but today's review is focusing on the fantastic cooking class options that they offer. I had the pleasure of taking a 3 hour cooking class with my mom and sister - so much fun! They offer the perfect blend of exhibition and hands-on... you get to try some new techniques, but you don't have to cook EVERYTHING yourself. We had an amazing menu of Osso Bucco, cheesy polenta, creamed leeks (omg amazing!), and biscotti-like cookies with macerated strawberries. It was a wonderful way to spend an evening. Unfortunately, this perfect date-night activity comes with a steep price: $60-$80/per person. Eek! This will definitely remain only a very occasional splurge for me (or just when mom is paying!). read more

I feel the classes at Sur La Table have decreased in value. The last experience I had at one was wonderful it was small groups we each had our own pot to cook and do many things. This class its everyone at one table and your just doing a small portion. In addition, they no longer allow you to bring wine which was half of the fun of the cooking class in my mind. I believe they should have at least advertised or let me know that wine was no longer allowed. I wouldn't have paid $75 a person for the event had I known this. There are plenty of cooking classes for half the cost that allow wine during the class. It was a fun event, but definitly not worth the price they are asking. read more

This is a really fun store to shop in for kitchen items that you can't find in a regular store. I only bought a donut maker because everything else was so expensive. I'm sure I'll give in and buy something I think that I will use one day but never will. At least when people come to the house they'll think that I'm really gourmet and fancy. read more

I wrote a review 3 months ago about the Jura Capresso j9 and again the machine broke down. Save yourself the money and frustration and go to Starbucks. Great coffee during the short time its working but its in the shop again. Not worth it and Sur La Table does nothing to back it up. read more

Don't have your knives sharpened here. I took my new expensive knives in. I thought professional sharpening was done on a wet stone. Not here they use a machine. My knives are scratched, a lot. And the sales clerk did it. Not a trained, experienced person. Not here. It could have been done on a wet stone if I had asked. I didn't know any of this and was not told any of this. Be sure to always ask. My mistake. Back to "The Knife Shop" I go. They are great. Sur La Table manager did say he would refund my $10.00 cost for sharpening. Big deal. One of my favourite shops to visit in the States. It is a foodie's dream store! Definitely one I would like to see in Canada. You can find just about any speciality item you're looking for. I love to bake, and have found many unique items that can be tough to find in Calgary (macaron baking sheets, cookie cutters, fun cupcake liners, etc.). They have a wide selection of cookware items, such as Le Crueset and Nespresso. The stores host a variety of events which I would really like to check out on a future visit! read more

I have been in this store a few times It was always a very average experience Today I worked with Patrick and this young man blew me away Patrick's level of knowledge his depth and breadth across the store and his expert listing skills made me want to buy everything in the store ! The cooking class was over priced for what you get. We thought you would actually cook a meal with your partner and eat it, but you cook as a big group and share very small portion. The class said it's served with wine and we found out it wasn't. I would waste time with a cooking class here if you really want to learn how to cook. Honestly we didn't learn anything and wouldn't do it again. read more

Update: days 2&3 I just walked around ther store and peeked in the class every so often to get a feel for the class since I wasn't allowed to watch the first day. Overall my child enjoyed the classes. She gives this workshop 5 stars because she felt guided and was allowed time to ask questions. Also they have snacks & water out for the kids. And just like a business they upsell you thru your children. My daughter came home telling me how I needed so many tools. Ha-ha. read more

If you teach a class you should be experienced in what you teach. In this case the Chef was constantly was thrown off track and had to read of a recipe on how to prepare/cook the items of the day. Then he rushed through to catch up. I like the concept, but overall experience disappointing. He was more into pushing the equipment/tools sold in the store. read more

My mom was visiting town and I thought it would be a great idea to take her to a cooking class because I took one at the Fashion Square location and it was so much fun. This time was terrible. We went to the French Pastry Secrets with Chef Safia Currie and what a bomb! This Chef was so rude and entitled, I couldn't believe it. I should have prepared myself not to ask any questions unless I wanted to embarrass myself in my group. She hates side talk as well. I didn't know I was suppose to do this class in silence. She loves being blunt and calls you out in front of everyone if you're doing something wrong. I didn't sign up to get yelled at. I was there to learn and have fun with my mom visiting from Alaska. This chef loves all the attention she can get! Plus, she thinks she pretty great and mighty and she mighty sucks. I don't know how many times I was talking to my mom or another classmate (whispering might I add) and the chef would drop everything because apparently she is the only person who can speak and she asked me if I wanted to share with the class. I was making a comment about how it smelt so good and she was completely out of line. She made this experience awful and I do not EVER recommend taking a class with this woman. She thinks she's the greatest thing since sliced bread. Chef Safia sucks! She can take those chocolate truffles and stick them up her ass!!! Plus, they were suppose to call me weeks ago when they had more ice cream machines in-stock and haven't heard shit. read more

Yesterday, my dear friend and I took our second cooking class at the Kierland Commons Sur La Table--Cooking Without Recipes taught by Chef Natascha Warden. Excellent! Chef Warden was instructive, funny, smart, knowledgable, and couldn't have been better. The class was tons of fun and we learned a lot (even at a very seasoned age). Sur La Table is a great store for real cooks--they never lead you wrong. I never thought I would be so happy to purchase a Scanpan after this class, and a bunch of other items. They never lead you wrong at Sur La Table. All very useful and good additions to my kitchen. Would highly recommend any of their cooking classes--the other people there were tons of fun as well. Why not? People who take cooking classes are creative, fun and interesting. read more

There are two locations in Scottsdale: at Fashion Square Mall off Camelback & Goldwater, near an entry door on the Mall's north side and at Kierland Commons west of Scottsdale Road. I run to these stores to find a cooking or baking item that is hard to find. While In the store, enjoy browsing all the offerings from small utensils to quality juicers. Really enjoyed the items and selection in this store, but had an extremely irritating customer service experience at checkout. I was helped by "Susie" who was beyond rude to me, did not say a single word to me throughout the entire transaction. She proceeded to put my very small item in a huge brown paper bag, at which i removed my item and told her I didn't need to waste a bag for it. A terrible employee like herself ruined my entire visit. read more

The chef during our class was micromanaging everything down to the way the cutting boards needed to face. The price of the class was extremely expensive for the amount of food we received. For $70/$140 for two. We received two small pieces of chicken with a small amount of rice!!! For that price we could have had 1lb of King crab legs at Mastros that they have on the menu. Then with the chef not a people person and rude, it put me over the top. We also invited 2 other couples to join us for this cooking class, and we ALL thought the chef was treating us like children in detention and couldn't wait to leave. The class was packed with people and the amount of food that was served was minimal, For dessert they served melted chocolate and threw out some marshmallow and bananas on the table...nothing special. We have done this in the past at this same location and received a total different experience. This is why we invited 2 other couples to the class. With all of us we paid $420 for this type of behavior. In addition the chef was very passively aggressive to his staff/helpers and made us feel uncomfortable. This class was advertised at date night and I'm unsure why that is. It was an assembly line prep and no mention of working together as a couple. After 3 hours we all left there hungry and and frustrated. I was extremely dissatisfied with experience. I will be calling the manager and discussing further. read more

Absolutely horrible customer service!!! I have bought numerous items from them of which you know they are not cheap and never had a problem. I have recently had two products go bad and they did nothing to help me. One was a scanpan that for some reason the non stick stopped working. I only have scanpans and hand wash all of them. This is the only one to ever go bad. I took it back in and they said it's over 60 days so you have to contact the manufacturer. I asked for the contact info and paperwork and they looked at me and told me that's my problem and I have to do it. ABSOLUTELY nothing to help me at all. Nothing like "we will send it back and let you know when the replacement comes." NOTHING!!! I have bought so many products and attended many cooking classes at this location but I can tell you never again! I'm all about buying high quality products but I'm even more about customer service and Sur La Table at Keirland is the worst and I will never shop there again!!!! I encourage you to think twice before buying a product there because of something goes wrong you will receive no customer service! read more
