This is my first visit to Surcheros in Alpharetta. My daughter who lives in Brunswick had highly recommended the place. Everything that I ordered tasted fresh and flavorful. Definitely not adding any positives to their stats. Childs burrito was unbelievably small! Don't put the size of tortilla on there as if that tells anything. Paid $2 extra for cheese dip inside and it didn't come with it at all. The shredded cheese was all in the bottom. Didn't give the sweet treat that was supposed to come with the kids meal. Cost just as much for the child's as the mini. Absolutely ridiculous! Literally gave us 5 chips with a mini burrito, less than what was with the child's. Seemed to be missing the steak we And our $8 large cheese dip, was only half full. Chips were stale and oily. This was a pickup order and we were extremely disappointed. Although it did feel the food was prepared correctly the atmosphere was bad and hated discontent. I went through one of their stores, and there was a what appeared to be a manager verbally extremely abusive one of his employees. I don't think They treat their employees very well and I'm a visitor all the way from California I was quite surprised that employees can be treated like this somebody really needs to address this unless this is how the state treats its employees??? The food is actually very good, and I love the portion sizes. Why 3 stars? I came in a few times after working late at my job. Surcheros had 1 hour left before closing. They made my order but the teenagers working were more focused on cleaning. The line where food was served was sloppy and disorganized because half of it was filled with containers needing to be put away. I also do not believe that the gloves are sanitary when they are rolling up rugs, emptying drinks, cleaning the grill, and then making someone's order. Also, I paid for a drink, but when I got to the drink station my drink had been emptied. Once my order was complete, it was a hot mess and my burrito was not in tact. A co-worker has been trying to go to this place for quite some time, and today I acquiesced. It is not that I am opposed to trying new things, I just generally don't venture that far out for lunch. We go inside and there are about 8 people in front of us. "Not too bad", I thought. I could not have been more wrong. It took about 30 minutes for us to get through that line and then when we ordered, it took about 10 minutes from them placing the protein on the tortilla before you got to the other toppings. The setup of this place is horrible, with the staff working in the drive-thru and to-go orders, in between in-restaurant orders. There should be a second prep line for to-go and drive-thru. Additionally, this place was super dirty. The grills looked like they had not been cleaned in months, the kid making the food touched about 10 different surfaces (including the box the tortillas come in) without changing his gloves, and somehow, tomatoes and onion were embedded into the outside of my burrito (I did not order either). This is one of our favorite, go-to restaurants. It's similar to Chipotle but better quality and much more flavorful. My favorite is the carnitas burrito bowl smothered in Surcheros sauce. They put toppings (like onions, bell peppers, etc.) fresh on the grill for you too, which is super nice. And guacamole and sour cream are included in the price! The salsa bar is great too. We ordered Surcheros for pick-up tonight, and we were disappointed on so many levels. First - when we placed the order, it stated the order would be ready in 20-mins. We arrived 15-mins in, checked in and were told the food should be ready in 6-mins. Fair enough! That wasn't the case. We waited another 20-mins before we got the food. When we checked it, they had forgotten the queso, so we had to ask for it. After we got home, we realized they had also forgotten the Surchero sauce on the side. Second - the food was about average. We ordered a beef quesadilla - the cheese was on one side of the quesadilla and the beef was on the other side. So, it was like a half cheese/half beef quesadilla. The guac on the burrito bowl we ordered was already oxidizing. The veggies we asked to be grilled on the burrito bowl were also not grilled, they were just raw and chopped, thrown in. Finally, what did us in was this dead fly in the burrito bowl. Nail in the coffin for us to not try this place again. The place was packed and based on the reviews I am sure many have had a positive experience, but ours was not positive. The biggest difference is there's plenty of seating inside and outside and on the roof! First you stand in the line in the front to order and pick your toppings. All Burritos or Burrito bowls are served with free chips and salsa. The long line was the only painful part of the experience but we did come here on a Thursday at 7pm so it was expected. The line was probably 25 minutes to order, pay, and receive the pressed burrito. I ordered the Grilled Chicken burrito on a spinach tortilla. There were so many toppings to choose from which were all free to add to your burrito including the normal lettuce, salsa, shredded cheese, onions, and also cucumbers, mushrooms, cilantro, sour cream, guacamole, corn salsa, and even freshly squeezed lime juice. Sometimes the line food preppers either know what they are doing or seem like it's their first day so you either get a fair amount of topping and meat or you get less and its not filling. They have an upstairs patio with umbrellas which is hard to eat up there because in the warmer months the bee's are so annoying! They have nice patio below with a firepit. They are pet friendly on their patios. Bring your own water bowls if you can because if you ask for their's its dirty and they fill it with water. So gross! read more

Several months ago, my wife and I noticed an old fast food restaurant (maybe a Hardees) was being torn down on the main drag in Alpharetta. We watched the development of the new construction with interest and finally the name of the business was revealed on the front of the building, "Surcheros Fresh Mex." The building was spacious and looked like it would include a large rooftop deck. Since we love Mexican food, we immediately visited their website which was clean, professional, and the pictures of the food looked good. We couldn't wait for them to open to give it a try. Finally, last night we did. Perhaps, it was our misconception of what the place was going to be, but we were disappointed. We were expecting a server, sit-down type restaurant, with music and a bar. Instead, the reality was similar to a Willies or Moes but closer to a Chipotle. You get in line to order your food, pick what you want cafeteria-style, pay, take your tray to a drink/salsa bar and then pick your table. The good: modern, sleek, large indoor/outdoor areas with plenty of seating, friendly staff, well lighted, great location, good parking, and the margaritas we got were tasty. The bad: small meat portions (thus we felt they were overpriced), food was bland, no festive music (we sat outside), colorless (everything was white and gray), kinda unkept (not dirty as in filthy, but not swept regularly-the checkout area was particularly bad with broken chips and spilled food), the salsa containers were really small, everything with the exception of the serving trays was disposable, and we felt the place had no real personality. Perhaps I am being overly critical because of our expectations for a new cool Mexican restaurant, maybe we picked the wrong entree (Pork Quesadillas), and we aren't big fans of Willies/Moes or Chipotle. If those types of Mexican chains are your thing, you might have a different opinion than we did, but we won't be back. read more

I have been here a few times with large groups, and with friends. Each time, the food and service have been really good. There are a variety of good toppings for your burrito, bowl or salad and they will sauté your onions, peppers, mushrooms etc... on the grill if you like. The portion size is a great value. The frozen skinny margaritas are very refreshing and fun to be able to have in the nice options of being outside, rooftop or inside. It is also nice that they include chips and several types of salsas- self serve. You get the feeling of abundance here and not like some restaurants that have cut portions and perks like chips.
