Terrible experience with this Iyengar dentist. My first and last visit to this business. Went in for a broken tooth. Dentist tried to upsell me on 3 implants and didn't even finish cleaning my teeth or extracting my tooth. He was rough and made me cry. He said " I think you need to find another provider " and left the room. Then proceeded to tell the medical assistant in front of me that they only get paid if they say the patient refused cleaning! What an assh**e! Stay away from this unempathetic dentist. read more

The doctor himself was kind of nice. My teeth cleaning went well. However the doctor told me that I had a cavity, gum disease, and my gum was receding and needed a procedure. They quoted me for $700 and some of them should have been covered w/my insurance, so I started losing trust. What the doctor didn't know was that I can read X-rays. It showed no sign of cavity at all to me. Also the receptionist had a bad phone etiquete and wouldn't return calls. I told my insurance company about these stuff and I switched dentist and went else where. Turns out that I had NO cavity, NO gum disease, NO gum receding. The new dentist said that my teeth were in great condition. Second opinion is very very important. I saved $700 by getting one. read more

Highly recommend Dr. Iyengar, he has a gentle touch and ensures that his work is meticulously executed. I had an exam, X-rays taken, and teeth cleaning here. Then needed a subsequent appointment for a root canal, which Dr. Iyengar performed and he is great. Thorough, takes the time to explain what he is doing and actually shows you where he'll be working and will walk you through the procedure. Bonus, he is HILARIOUS... his banter quashed any anxiety or apprehension I had about having to undergo a root canal. It was surprisingly painless and I'm extremely sensitive with an absurdly low pain threshold. His staff are awesome, friendly and professional. update on second root canal done by this butcher: it's been abcessing for a week. finally able to get into another dentist today. they said they will have to extract crown and redo the root canal because it was terrible work. my face is swollen like a soccer ball. another crown not possible because he ground away too much of the tooth. it won't hold. it's already fallen out 3 times over the past 2 years anyway. bridge or implant needed. I had a root canal by Dr Iyengar in late 2023 that never healed and I lost faith in him and went to a new dentist for help through friends' recommendation. So now, I am currently paying thousands of dollars to (hopefully) get the root canal fixed by an endodontist. The dentists I have visited since seeing Dr Iyengar were shocked at the way the root canal was done and they don't know if they can save the tooth. I would not advise getting a procedure done here. Nice people, it's but not a peaceful, organized office and certainly not dental work that I would recommend. I also had to hold suction at my own dental procedure, which is unprofessional. I wish I'd seen Kendra's review before hopping in the chair with Dr. Iyengar, because the exact same thing happened to me. I also should have run out of the place, because when I walked in, a patient was screaming at him that he had ruined her teeth. He told me everything was fine and that she was seeing something that was not there. I still should have run. Two cavities side by side in my upper back molars. One he says is not bad, the other is slightly worse, but not too terrible. After having them done, the pain would not go away. After a few weeks of not being able to eat anything on that side of my mouth and not being able to drink anything cold, I went and got a second look. The pain at this point was unbearable. The new dentist says that either: -The cavities WERE deep and he lied to me. OR -He drilled much too deep and caused serious issues with the nerves. Either way, not something I want in a dentist. Now, it's a double root canal for me, all out of pocket, because this guy doesn't know how to drill and fill a few simple cavities. There are so many other dentists in the LA area. Even if you have to drive a little bit, they CANT be worse than this guy. read more

This dentist ruined my mouth and smile. The midline is off, my jaw shifted, he put in two poor bridges, he will not accept responsibility. I have been to 7 dentists and finally found someone to help. Fortunately, I took him to small claims and got a partial refund. He cried pity and I fell for it. I negotiated and regret it. I signed a waiver for any future damages. Of course, a year later I have proof of more need of repair as quoted by a a new dentist and lab regarding my bridge and why my bite shifted. I am reporting to the ADA. Use caution with his attitude, anger, defense mechanism and his poor gatekeeper who does his dirty work. I referred people to him. Luckily, they were not harmed. read more

I have been going to Dr. Iyengar for over 5 years now. I moved out of Sherman Oaks but I still make the long drive to see him. I read the reviews and if holding your own suction is the worst thing that's happened to you at a dentist its not that bad. Dr Iyengar has years of expertise and he is patient. I was not a fan of the dentist as a result Dr. Iyengar has helped me with fix my teeth and soon my smile with Invisalign. Hes a great artist that translates to his dental work as he is meticulous. I started going here in Feb last year and I'm very pleased with Suresh. He is extremely knowledgeable. I'm always a bit sceptic when I go to a new dentist in LA because of some bad experiences in the past. I came here because I experienced some pain on the upper right side. Suresh said it was my lower wisdom tooth putting pressure on the upper tooth that caused the ache and that we needed to remove that tooth. Since I'm a bit sceptic from previous experiences I went to also get a 2nd opinion. That dentist said I needed to remove an old filling, get a root canal and a crown as well as remove the wisdom tooth and the total price (with the insurance included) was around $3000. I went back to Suresh and told him what they said and he said you absolutely don't need any of that, all we need to do is removing that wisdom tooth. So he did and the pain went away a few weeks after and now I'm able to chew on that side again! And I paid $160 which was the right amount according with my insurance. read more

I really don't want to have to write a negative review, but after digging deeper into the Yelp reviews for Dr. Iyengar I see that I am not the first person to have this problem. I wish I had dug deeper than just the top few that are 5 star to see what the full story is with this office. Dr. Iyengar himself and his staff are kind and welcoming. Their equipment is very dated, though, and yes, occasionally he had me hold the suction for my own dental work. I have never experienced that at a dentist's office. I went in for a routine cleaning, and through x-rays and the examination he found a cavity in my back upper molar. He filled the cavity, and the pain in the tooth BEGAN the very next day. It was fine before he did the work. I went back into the office again for relief from the pain, he began to use the drill tool on my tooth without numbing me which was EXTREMELY painful. I left the office sweaty and bewildered, angry that I hadn't stood up for myself and told him not to drill on my tooth without numbing. When that second visit STILL hadn't fixed the pain, I went back in a third time. Each time Dr. Iyengar came in to see me he seemed puzzled by my being there and I felt like an inconvenience. He attempted to drill on the tooth again with no numbing, and I told him to stop. I've never had a dentist attempt to work on a tooth in that way without proper medical care. I went for a second opinion to a dentist who is not within my network (got new insurance and that was the reason I looked for a dentist on Yelp) and she showed me that the dental work was not done properly. I'll be having her fix his mistake out of pocket. TL;DR: I went in for a routine cleaning/cavity fill, ended up with a painful, multi-visit saga. I would not recommend this dentist. read more

I love my Dentist. Suresh S. Iyengar. His assistant Rosie and of course Tina too. This is the best office everrrrrr. Not only is this team professional and helpful. Just outright good people. I highly recommend Suresh for any kind of Dental work you may need done. Especially cosmetic. Being that he is also a amazing artist. He knows and understands better then most what the look of even one tooth can change your entire look. Seriously, he is a master. I'd also like to add... I'm sorry but he ripped me off of $800 for retainers... when i clearly told him i have cavities and a root canal that had to be done so i want to wait and hold back on the retainers. he said i had 0 cavities and people are just money hungry and i should ignore it and just do the moulding. so did. i told him repeatedly i couldn't chew on one end. he said thats normal. i came back in 3 months and reported the same, proceeded to make me chew on a Q-tip and ask me if i felt it?? i felt nothin duh its a q-tip..terrible. i go for 2-3 opinions. all dentists say i need a root canal asap and i have had 3 cavities, so i flew to another country, i had to fill up my cavities and do my root canal and surprise.....my $800 retainers don't fit me anymore. I gave this doctor several chances but I have decided to find a new dentist. I must say that the receptionist is a very nice and helpful lady. She by far exceeds expectations, but the dental hygienists and Dr. Iyengar leave much to be desired. My biggest complaint is that, as mentioned by others, he makes THE PATIENT hold the suction. UNFATHOMABLE. He insisted I needed all 4 wisdom teeth out even though my previous dentist of more than 10 years said I didn't. One of them was impacted (more on that later) and I believe him about that one, but I'm suspicious about the other 3. Also, the office is very small and dingy and he doesn't give out any supplies with a regular check-up. So he had already filled a couple cavities. One chipped significantly within a couple months and with the other he combined two of my side teeth into one, with no way to floss between them. So I go in for two of the wisdom teeth and the first one comes out easy but the impacted one was a disaster. He kept having to saw it into smaller bits and yanking at it to no avail. Meanwhile I have to suction my own mouth while I'm shaking in fear that this guy is going to have to send me to a better dentist to get this thing out. He finally got it and I go home having only gotten helpful aftercare information from the RECEPTIONIST. Then I get this weird white place in the healing hole and call about getting it looked at. The receptionist is super nice and squeezes me in. This is less than a week later. So I go to the chair and Dr. Iyengar comes in and asks me why I'm there. He has no idea. Doesn't remember and didn't bother to look at my file before coming in. This was the last straw. I felt bad about this because of the nice receptionist, but I had to go with someone else. read more

I have been meaning to write this review for quite some time! I have been seeing Dr. Iyengar since 2014. I first saw Dr. Iyengar when I was having tooth pain and my old dentist didn't believe me. Not only did Dr. Iyengar believe me, he fixed the problem in about 2 minutes. His understanding of the mouth and how it works is better than any dentist I've ever been to. He also walks you through everything that is going on. I always leave with my questions answered. In addition, Dr. Iyengar is a calming and compassionate person. I have a tendency to feel nervous at the dentist.... but I never feel that way here. I actually am excited to go! On top of all of that, the prices are incredibly reasonable. And the cherry on top, Tina (the office manager) is amazing. Seriously can't say enough good things about this office. read more

My husband and I have been going to Dr. Iyengar for many years. His location is a little far for us and we tried a few times over the years to find a dentist closer to where we live. It never worked out. His work is much better than other dentists we tried. Plus he and Tina (front desk) and Rosie (dental assistant) are such nice people. It is just the 3 of them and we prefer that over a large office with people who don't know who we are. Also, Dr. Iyengar is quite funny. I call him the "Stand up Comic Dentist". He and his staff are an exceedingly friendly group of folks who always treat their patients with the upmost care and respect. I actually look forward to my biannual cleanings and checkups. It's a very small and modest dentistry so if you're looking for a Robertson/Beverly Hills type office with a Robertson/Beverly Hills type billing, then you'll probably want to look elsewhere. But for the rest of us who simply want an honest, caring dentist, then you couldn't do better than Dr. Iyengar and his staff. read more

My favorite dentist ever! He cleans teeth with the water jet thingy, which can be a bit messy, but way faster and more comfortable than having your teeth scraped. He is funny as hell, and very nice. Dr. Iyengar was a friend and family dentist for many years. Last year he changed drastically as did his dental work. His work and his have attitude have suffered . We made an agreement by phone to complete certain dental work and then when I came in to get the work done he said he lied to me and backed out of our verbal agreement and told me that as I had nothing in writing, he can do whatever he wants. He admitted lying to me when we made the agreement to complete this work. DO NOT EVER LET HIM DO AN IMPLANT. He did an implant on me and to my dismay it stuck out in front, out of line with my other teeth. He tried to fix it by building it up with some kind of cement but it still sticks out, is discolored and looks like it is many years old instead of being new and matching other teeth. I am so sad to see such a respected and talented man change so suddenly and drastically. I cannot imagine what may have happened in his life to change him so badly. I no longer can trust him or his work. Stay away. read more

So... I am your typical Odontophobiac, aka- I'm terrified of dentists, due to monster-dentists whom I'm dealt with as a child... personally, I think they were sadists who hated hated children. Anyway, I am so SO happy to say, that TODAY... I am odontophobia-free!! yay! and it's all thanks to Dr. Suresh Iyengar and his crew. No joke. I had a root canal done today, performed by Dr. Iyengar, and his awesome male assistant (who's name i did not catch, sorry)... I'm alive and the whole thing (w/ the first 2 injections as exceptions, of course, but those few painful seconds were well worth it) was PAIN FREE! nothing. I felt nothing. I almost fell asleep, but I was kind of fascinated by the whole thing. He gave me the necessary amount of local anesthesia, and was in good spirits and total hilarious, which always makes me feel better. There is nothing better than a doctor with a good sense of humor. Now I'm home, not suffering, doing my usual day to day activity... no pain, no suffering. It was a surprisingly quick and delightful experience. Knowing that my hideously painful tooth is no longer a problem, and that the procedure felt nonexistent, is a miracle. Thank You, so much!!!!! Best dentist ever. read more

I am not happy that I have to right a poor review. I wish I would have trusted my gut and stopped going after the first time he numbed me and left me in the chair for an hour and I had to leave with nothing being done to me but a painful shot in my mouth. I was not smart to continue to go to him. He never once was on time (average was atleast 20 minutes till he arrived at the office). He often would talk about inappropriate off topic things (I must clarify not explicit). Either myself or his receptionist would be the ones to hold the sucker. However, that is the least of the problems. My husband and I both have been left in constant pain lasting 3+ months. He performed a root canal on both of us. My husband could barely eat for two weeks with his. He told me I was only getting a filling, yet he proceeded to do a root canal. It took 3 tries before he fit me properly with the crown. He knowing that he had messed up would have let me carry on, and would only cop to it after I said something. There has been irreversible damage done, and so much time and money lost. I do know that there was another review on here that must have been deleted that shared my similar experience. I am writing this because I wish I would have known myself.... read more

I had to go to an oral surgeon to repair what Dr Iyengar did to me and months later I'm still not finished with the process and an still being ignored by Iyengars office even after they called to tell me they owe me money! Overall: Average First and foremost - the quality I look for in a dentist is that they are honest. As far as I can tell, Dr. Iyengar seems okay. So that outweighs the negatives in my mind. But, I thought the office and equipment was pretty sub-par. Dr. Iyengar and Staff: Above Average The staff was friendly. I didn't get the feeling that Dr. Iyengar was trying to rip me off which is a HUGE plus for a dentist's office. When I got a check up 6 months ago at another office, the dentist told me I needed crowns and more fillings. I never bothered to get them because I was suspicious, and it seems that I had good intuition. Dr. Iyengar said I took good care of my teeth and didn't say I needed any extra work on them. Though he did seem to push Invisalign - which is strange because my teeth are straight. He has Invisalign brochures conveniently placed right on the tray in front of you while in the dentist chair! Also when I requested a night guard, he said Invisalign would help. Weird... That was the only shady thing about my interaction with him. The Office Environment: Poor I was pretty shocked at how dingy, cramped, and dirty the place looked. The equipment looked old and worn down - some of it had visible cracks. The furniture also had cracks and stains. I got the feeling that it was a little unsanitary. While polishing my teeth, the assistant kept sticking the sucking device in my mouth, then on her lap, and back in my mouth again. Gross. The past few dentists I've been to over the years have had state of the art equipment (like the new digitized x-rays) - you won't find anything like that here. Dental Process: Below Average It was my first experience being the assistant to my own teeth cleaning. Dr. Iyengar had me hold the sucking device while cleaning my teeth while his assistant was walking around doing other things. Also, his cleaning device (which was this really grating device I've never experienced during teeth cleanings) kept spewing water all over my cheeks and eyes, then dribbling down my cheeks, forming a pool of water on my chest, seeping onto my shirt. read more

We all love Dr Iyengar! I started going to him about 15 years ago and have referred all of my family and several friends and they are all very happy with him! He does not run a flashy office, he keeps it simple and you never feel like he is trying to "upsell" you. If you want a dentist you can trust please call him! I must warn all new or current patients - PLEASE AVOID THIS DENTIST AT ANY COST. I went with a complain of having sensitivity on one of the lower molar teeth. He said possible root canal. But didn't do it, in stead did the expensive white composite filling and charged me. After that filling the tooth became super sensitive and I started having pain. Had to go back to him and he said root canal needed. When I questioned why he did that pricey useless filling while he knew it was a "possible root canal"--he didn't have any answer. During the root canal--he had me hold the suction. After the root canal the tooth got worse. Gum swelled and later a bump formed deep inside of the chick which was the result of a severe infection caused by the root canal around the jaw bone. As soon as gum swelled--I called him ----he just gave me antibiotics and said it is nothing to worry about. Finally after 10 days he saw me and said the tooth is getting infection from the neighbor tooth and now that tooth needs root canal. Even though I don't have any pain on that neighbor tooth or don't see any notable infection under that tooth--he insisted it is that tooth which is causing all the problem. At that point I gave up on his bullshits and went to USC School of Dentistry. Their x-rays showed that he had a BROKEN FILE (the metal instrument he uses to do the root canal) inside the tooth. He went too deep inside the root and also broke the canal's wall. As a result when he filled up the canal with the material--that went inside the gum and the bone and caused that severe infection. He completely messed up the tooth. And neighbor tooth has nothing to do with all these mischief. My only outcome was to get the tooth extracted and do an oral surgery to clean up that infection from the bone. There's no way they could re-treat the root canal and save the tooth. PLEASE-------DON'T GO TO THIS DENTIST---IF YOU CARE TO SAVE YOUR TOOTH. read more
