I ordered the mahi mahi fish tacos and a house coffee. The coffee was actually pretty good! Cream and sugar were delivered separately to finish with your preference. As for the tacos, it was okay. The fish was a bit dry for my liking, cabbage could have been chopped with more finesse, and I wished they QC'd their limes a bit before putting them on the plate. Both were bone dry and I had to ask for more. Moreover, the cilantro lime rice was also a bit bland. It needed salt to lift the flavors in my opinion. There weren't even flecks of green if it was supposed to be cilantro? I tried boyfriend's veggie hash but was disappointed to find that it was almost all potatoes. Having said that, it was an extremely generous portion so he was filled up. While I didn't try it, our friend that had the chorizo hash also said it was okay so I'm guessing the ratio wasn't quite right. Anyways, ask for their chili sauce on the side, that's actually quite surprising. It had really good heat and was more like a chili crisp than a vinegary hot sauce. The plates that did score favorably at the table were the carne chilaquiles and the divorced eggs.

The diner is conveniently located right along the main street, surrounded by local shops and restaurants. There was both indoor and outdoor seating available, and we chose to sit inside. Everything was clean, the atmosphere was welcoming, and the staff was friendly and attentive. We were seated immediately when we arrived, but by the time we left there was a small wait, which tells me this is a popular spot with both locals and visitors. I ordered the two-piece French toast with a side of bacon. The portion size was just right, the French toast was delicious, and the bacon was cooked exactly the way I like it--crispy around the edges without being overdone. I have to laugh because I started eating before I remembered to take pictures...haha! So my French toast photo is missing a few bites, but I guess that's a pretty good indication that I couldn't wait to dig in. Overall, we had a wonderful breakfast and enjoyed our experience from start to finish. If you're looking for a classic diner while visiting Encinitas, I would definitely recommend stopping by. Next time I'd love to come back and try lunch. (I'll take better photos ).

They have two dirty high chairs and one of them was missing safety straps. The service was ok. Update: The owner's response to my review was simply, "Yeah relax." Unfortunately, that response reinforces the concerns I had about this business. Rather than addressing the issues I raised--food quality, cleanliness, and child safety--they chose to dismiss a customer's honest feedback. Reviews exist to help businesses improve and to inform other customers about their experiences. I wasn't trying to be disrespectful; I was sharing what we genuinely experienced. A professional response would have acknowledged the concerns or explained how they planned to address them. Instead, the dismissive reply speaks volumes about how customer feedback is valued here. Based on both our visit and the owner's response, I won't be returning, and I hope they choose to take customer concerns more seriously in the future.

I have no doubt that this cozy spot is crowded AF on the weekends though. They have outdoor seating with umbrellas for shade. Most of the shaded tables we're taken so I opted to sit inside. You order at the counter and coffee & water are self service. After looking at the menu I decided on the corned beef hash and my friend asked me to order her kid a grilled cheese sandwich so she wouldn't have to wait to eat since it was a long drive for them. The hash was good. I should have asked them to make it a bit crispier though as is it has a lot of flavor and I saw some celery in there. Happy to eat more fiber I asked for my eggs to be medium over and they were cooked as asked. Food came out in a reasonable time and overall experience was good.

My friend and I arrived a little before 10:00 am on Saturday and their outdoor patio at the entrance was full. So we expected to wait at least an hour. However walking in, there were plenty of indoor seating and was seated right away. We were surprised at how big this place was. It was modern and bright, beautiful! The employees were very friendly and we were helped by Jason. He was so friendly and laid back, we felt like we were dining in his home. He really set the vibe of this place. Comfortable, relaxed. The food we ordered was delicious! My friend got the Fruit Bowl with a side of eggs and I had the Vegan Hash. The fruit was fresh and my hash was full-flavored and the veggies perfectly cooked. I'm not even vegan but I thoroughly enjoyed it. There were many in-house baked goods but we had to try the Sour Cream Scones with a strawberry preserve and it was amazing!! When we left, there was a musician performing at the entrance too. Nice entertainment! What a gem of a place and we look forward to going back!

My first Takeaway is if you have children and you wanna go have a nice meal in a great vibe... This is the spot. Outside patio, gorgeous, inside tables equally pretty, and so easy to sit and enjoy. This was our first time at the cottage and we were lucky enough to have the very lovely energetic Tiffany as our server. The menu is very big and there's a lot to choose from so we decided to stay simple and see what we think. I had the buttermilk pancakes, which were delicious and huge, but you can get them either two or three, nice to know. Deborah got the eggs Benedict classic and she liked it and she also had a mimosa and of course loved it. It will certainly be on our list of brunch spots or lunch because we're in that neighborhood quite a bit. Thank you, Jason and Tiffany.
