I came in with pretty high expectations after seeing so many great reviews. We waited about 15 minutes to be seated, which wasn't too bad. The standout dish was definitely the Brussels sprouts. They were easily the highlight of the meal and an absolute must-order if you dine here. As for our breakfast, it was just okay. The bread was quite hard, making it difficult to cut and chew, and the hash browns could have used a bit more seasoning. The service also felt a little off. Our server took the orders of tables that were seated after us before coming to ours, and we didn't receive water until she was ready to take our order. It would have been nice to have our waters brought out shortly after we were seated while we looked over the menu. Overall, I'm glad I gave it a try, but I'm not sure I'd return. I'd say 3.5 stars. Came on a gloomy Sunday morning in the summer. My friend put us on the waitlist and when I arrived it seemed relatively empty and they only could seat us inside. No problem. I ordered the Risotto Benedict ($19.75) and a Valrhona Dark mocha ($6.5) while my friend had a regular coffee with a pancake and the divorciado. The food came out pretty quickly and it was pretty good. The bacon was well cooked as were the eggs. Our server was ok. Found ourselves here recently for brunch. It's in the most adorable little converted craftsman house. Food was great, I had the chilaquiles which were so good and my husband raved about them too. My family was vacationing in Encinitas and stumbled upon Claire's on Cedros on our first morning while searching for an early breakfast spot. Pancakes are usually not something I get excited about - I tend to think most restaurants use the same premade mixes from the same suppliers, resulting in pancakes that are ultimately forgettable. That changed the moment I tried a bite of the pancakes my daughter ordered. I was genuinely surprised to discover what may be some of the best pancakes I've ever had. Since then, Claire's has become a breakfast tradition whenever we're in the area. Buttermilk Pancakes (OG) - 5/5. These pancakes completely changed my expectations of what a pancake can be. What makes Claire's buttermilk pancakes stand out is their depth of flavor. They have a rich, buttery character and a subtle fermented tang that give them a distinctive personality. Add a little extra butter and real maple syrup, and the flavor reaches another level. The texture is equally impressive. Unlike many restaurant pancakes that are either soggy or overly dense, these strike a near-perfect balance. They hold their shape well while remaining tender and fluffy, with just the right amount of air pockets. They're substantial without being heavy and soft without falling apart. I have also gotten the short rib Benedict previously which is also delicious. The Greek yogurt with açai is very refreshing. We also sampled the lemon ricotta pancake, which was fluffy and yummy! I just had to place a sweet review for Claire's in Solana Beach on Cedros. I just had a meeting with friends there yesterday. I had forgotten all about this perfect little spot. I am so glad we went. The last time I was here was for an early breakfast. This time it was a 1:00 lunch. The food was SO good!!! We all had something different and we all loved our choice. We swapped 1/2s so we could try a variety. Perfect portions. I ate every bite, but one of my friends couldn't finish all of hers. The outside seating is lush, green and shady. The staff is professional, fast and kept it moving. Tons of parking, across from the train station and within a block from shopping or the beach. Fletchers Cove is just a couple blocks away. Great park and beach for kids. I texted my friends to say we need to remember this spot as a "go to" when we are trying to decide where to meet. Highly recommend!!! read more
