    Shrimp tacos

We loved this place! It was right next to our air b and b so we went twice for food. I got the tuna tacos (so much fresh tuna) and the shrimp tacos. You get so much food for the price, and then you also get a side of homemade tortilla chips and salsa which was amazing. Our friend got fish tacos and she said they were great. The service was super friendly and quick. They also have two large bars and are always playing fun music. You get a good view of the water too! If I lived here I would frequent this place.

We were passing through Coral Bay and stopped here for lunch, and the food completely surprised us--in the best way. We ordered the mahi sashimi taco and the fish and chips. The taco was hands down the best taco I had on this entire trip, and the fish and chips were perfectly tender on the inside and crispy on the outside. I would definitely come back here if I ever return to St. John.

The food at this location was wonderful. Great drinks. So far my favorite Painkiller! Probably in my top five of fish and chips places anywhere. If you get a choice, asked to be seated in Kaaren's section. Great personality. Great customer service! Come for the food and leave with a smile!

The new owner. Phillip. Great guy. He cares and wants to make this place a success. We wish them nothing but success.

This place is under new management as of June of this year. The new owners (Phillip and Laura and their cute little dog, Lacy) -- we had the pleasure of meeting and getting to know during our week on island. They are both wonderful people, who clearly care about this place and who have a compassion for success. They have only owned the place for a few months now and have really turned the place around. Right from the start, you can tell they "care" about this place and are working their hardest to make the customer's experience memorable. You will have your mix of both locals and visitors here. The view can NOT be beat. Tyler and Scott manned the bar while we were there, with Phillip behind them constantly cleaning up. He has OCD issues like I do. No wonder we connected! We initially stopped in to have drinks this past Tuesday after passing by. That turned into an hour of chatting with the owners and getting to know the staff and their story on island and then maybe one too many shots of tequila ;-). We later visited again on Friday for drinks and then later that same day for dinner. The drinks (Pain Killer), the Chicken Casadio and the Chicken Tenders are all good. My wife and I wish nothing but success to these two! We can't wait to visit again, if not run into you two somewhere else in life. Keep up the great work, great service, great drinks and good food!

I'm kicking myself! We had a great experience here and I wanted to do a detailed review right away to describe all the great things we encountered. But alas, it slipped my mind and here we are, over a month later and I'm racking my brain trying to remember things. Well, here are the highlights: We came here on the 4th of July. I was impressed right off the bat - we walk up to the hosting area and the host started the conversation by wishing me and my family a happy 4th of July and shaking our hands. It made us feel like part of the family. We got seated right away. The place is very lively and has lots of things going on. My kids and I played one of the games they had available. There was live music consisting of this incredibly talented family of musicians. The bar was hopping. They have a gift shop. There was just a lot of energy that made you feel good being there. I know, that sounds weird but it's true. We enjoyed the food very much also. We got mostly fried things - fish taco, shrimp basket, fish sandwich. The breading was light and crispy. Everything was delicious. Our server was almost as friendly as the host. So welcoming and attentive. This is now my go-to restaurant on St. John. I can't think of one bad thing to say. And if you read some of my other reviews, you would know that is impressive. Surf Club Cantina hit it out of the park.

Everyone at this place makes you feel like family! It's the only place open (and sharkys next door) on coral bay (October) and I'm so glad, because every night we came for dinner, and it was so good! Bingo on Wednesday nights, so fun! The atmosphere and crowd was fantastic! They hand bread their chicken, the tuna was fresh, parking was easy, drinks were stiff and great! They use jerk chicken in their quesadillas and it's amazing! Great view of the bay and all the sailboats! Love the people, this place and the food! Go here!

This was such a gem to randomly find as we were exploring St. John in our Jeep rental. The food was delicious. The owner was very attentive. We even bought merch. Our daughter loved the surf shirt. We had the tacos and conch fritters. Kids had shrimp and fries and chicken. They make their own batter so everything was light and crispy and not greasy. I also tried the Lime a Colada, very refreshing. Highly recommend. Plus the owner gave us a tip where we could swim with the sea turtles!!!

We stopped here starving for a late Sunday afternoon lunch. I had the fried bang bang shrimp tacos. While the contents were pretty good, the tortilla was soaked in oil, so much that oil was dripping off! I really didn't enjoy the refried beans. The second side of rice was very dry. There's no tap water, so you can only have bottled water here. The service was pretty good, the restaurant wasn't very busy. We entered the patio area just as an employee said "f*** this. I'll say I'm working but I'm not doing anything." Needless to say, it was an interesting start to the meal! Not much ambiance, but the outdoor seating is nicely shaded.

The food is amazing! I would even say the best we have had on the island. The service was great as well as everyone made us feel like family. We ate here twice within three days at it was such a great experience. The fish tacos, ahi tuna tacos and conch fritters were fantastic! I highly recommend Surf Club Cantina!

Delicious salads, fish and chips and Grouper Reuben on Rye as a Special. That's what I have tried so far. Many other option, tacos to burgers. Staff is great. Very attentive. The owner, Laura, makes a point to say hello. Zach is the man. The evenings with music are hopping. The view of Coral Bay is sweet. If you happen to be there at Full Moon it is enchanting.

    Pain killer and great views.

We were taken out on the shuttle and told we'd need to swim the final 10 yards or so. As someone who didn't exactly grow up in the water, that was easier said than done. I even had a floatie for assistance, but it didn't inspire much confidence. It was the longest two minutes of my life. To make matters even more exciting, the water was pretty choppy that day. To be clear, this is completely a "me" problem and not a reflection of the establishment at all. I just hope that one day there's an easier option for land-loving odd ducks like myself to enjoy the experience without convincing ourselves we're about to become part of a maritime rescue operation. Once we made it, though, it was absolutely worth it. We ordered a couple of margaritas that were fresh, strong, and delicious. I had the Spiced Tuna Taco and my wife ordered the Shrimp Taco. We absolutely inhaled them. I would've happily ordered several more rounds if I hadn't been mentally preparing for the swim back to the shuttle. The vibe was fun, energetic, and laid-back. Being from St. Louis, it was a happy coincidence that they were playing Nelly and Chingy all afternoon, which made me feel oddly at home. All in all, this was a stellar experience, and I would absolutely go back. I may just want to log a few more hours of swimming practice first.

But, our visit during our most recent vacation was in line with last time. So, decided to post a review this time. When we arrived, the bar was fairly crowded, but the tables were empty. The waitress working apparently wasn't interested in seating our party of four. We made solid eye contact across the establishment and waited patiently for her to finish what appeared to be a personal conversation. Eventually, she finished but still made no move to come greet or seat us. We finally went to the bar to ask about a table...where the bartender Tarzan (he may also be the owner?) seemed happy to greet us. He was awesome...a real brightspot for the visit! Friendly, quick service, and seemed very happy to chat. He made us feel like we were locals. Seated us at a table, brought our drinks and food order in record time, and hung around to give tips and chit-chat. While Tarzan was great, getting seated led to a bit of an annoyance. It rained shortly before we arrived. So the tables and chairs were soaked. We asked for something to wipe them off. What we got was a small handful of napkins; barely enough to dry part of the table so we could set our phones on a dry spot. For dinner, we ordered two pizzas. Both were good...thin crust with a nice taste. But, on the other hand, they ran out of pizza dough. We planned to order 3 pizzas. They only had enough dough left to make 2 pizzas...even though they were supposed to be open 3+ more hours. This was reminiscent of our visit 2 years earlier when they had only enough dough to make 1 pizza for us...at 6pm on a weekend. Seems like they would make sure to have enough dough to get much closer to closing. ...and doesn't seem to be something they are prioritizing a fix for. So, overall we had a great experience with Tarzan, and the pizza we got tasted good. But, the disinterested waitress, shortage of pizza dough, and weird limited attempt to help us dry the table all summed up to a decent, but not great experience. The east side of the island has limited dining options, so we'll probably try again during our next vacation. But, now we know to lower our expectations.

Our original pick was closed for the month of May and by happenstance the owner recommended Sylvia's. We walked in and the place has just the essentials. There's a bar on the right and then the kitchen, tables on the left, and bathrooms in the back. The menu is on a white board with a cash only sign right below. There were about 6 mains and each came with two sides (4 options, the 5th sold out). Sylvia took our order and between the 4 of us we tried 3 of the mains and all of the sides. I had the fresh fish of the day, grilled in butter sauce. It came out head, tail, scales and all. Sylvia explained this as I ordered and let me know it was to keep all of the flavor. She also showed me how to slice it to avoid the bones and it was flat out delicious. We shared the sides among us, my favorites being the mash and spinach; though all were good. My boyfriend ordered the jerk chicken and it had some serious heat. He asked about the recipe and Sylvia mentioned that everyone on the island had the same request but no one ever got it. My friend ordered the homemade key lime pie; best she ever tasted. Some quirks: There's a bar and the restaurant that operate as two different businesses, so you'll get your drinks on one bill and the food on a second. Also, they are CASH ONLY; It cost us about $150 to get out the door for dinner for 4, drinks, and a generous tip. Sylvia serves her food in Sputnik Bar. If you're approaching from the northwest on Rte 10, keep straight instead of turning into Coral Bay (at the 107 split). It'll be about 1/2 mile down the road on the left.
