Came here for Sunday night dinner make sure you make reservations. Live jazz music and great atmosphere. The marble bar is very cool and this establishment was a former bank in the late 1800's. The original bank vault has never been opened and it is the centerpiece behind the bar very cool history. Definitely try the crispy chicken and the burger. They are both highly recommended. The ambiance is very nice situated in an old bank, decorated to feel warm and inviting. Big bar, lots of seats and high top tables. We only had drinks, didn't try the food, but I do love the idea of a "build your own" cheese and charcuterie board. See photo for selection of items to choose from. After all the great reviews of this place, we were really looking forward to eating here but we were sorely disappointed. The waiter was not super friendly but Ill give him a pass bc he looked like he was the only server for the whole restaurant so he was stressed and busy with tables in both rooms. The noise level was very loud in the main dining room and was hard to talk. But the worst part of this entire experience was the food. We ordered a lobster roll to split and the lobster came out literally gray and was so tough and chewy and fishy that it was incredibly hard to eat. I wanted to send it back but my friend asked me not too but it was absolutely inedible. It was if they had microwaved the lobster in some butter. It also had a very minimal amount of lobster in it. I'm usually in Newport a couple of times a year and I try to come here. The atmosphere is usually pretty chill on the bar side, so it's nice to come for drinks and a bite to eat. The last time I was here was yesterday. Some friends and I sat at the bar for a late afternoon nibble and a drink. They went with The Remedy, which was a mocktail on the menu. Both friends liked it. I went with a Sazerac Rye Manhattan. It was well made and came with a luxardo cherry. To eat, my friends shared some oysters, the watermelon salad, a caesar salad, and the garlic parm frites. We were making fun of the frites, because there were also fries on the menu. We said that adding the garlic parm took them from fries to frites - lol. My friends remarked on how tasty everything was, so I'm glad I brought them here. I decided to have a few items off of the charcuterie menu - cheddar, goat cheese, prosciutto, and salami. The goat cheese and salami were the recommendation of the bartender and he was spot on. Everything went well together and was super fresh and delicious. The board came with jam, spicy mustard, crostini, and something pickled. I'll be back in Newport this October for a conference and I'll try to make it back here for some more food and drinks. read more

We went here on a whim & we're happy we did! The staff were very friendly & we were lucky to get a table on the roof deck. Our server whose name I can't remember was great. She was knowledgeable about all the oyster options & the rest of the menu. I had the beet salad which was great & lobster bisque. My only complaint is that the cream in the bisque was the top flavor note, not the lobster. I asked for a little shot of sherry & I really hope I didn't offend the chef! Excellent service from Sailor! She's fantastic! Delicious meats and cheeses. We ordered a special Valentine's board which had delicious burrata and prosciutto. The Caesar salad was phenomenal. The shoestring fries with Parmesan and garlic were a tasty treat. The fries were crispy and the seasoning was fabulous. I loved my mocktail, Pink Pearl. It had a fun foam. The Belcourt was a really nice rum cocktail. Very spacious restaurant. Two levels and an outdoor patio too. Lovely, modern decor. Pristine. I love the lighting and ambiance. I honestly would have given this no stars but I don't think I could have left a review without one. I try to be a patient person but this experience was HORRIBLE! We walked in and decided to sit at the bar. The bar area was dirty. There were 2 bartenders on and they both looked miserable. We waited about 5 minutes before the female bartender realized she needed to acknowledge us. She gave us menus and when asked to wipe the bar she begrudgingly did it. We sat there ANOTHER 10 minutes and in that time neither bartender looked at us. I used the restroom (which was the best part of my experience!) and came down to find my husband and son still sitting with no service. We decided to leave and not one person cared. We are locals and honestly we will never go back or recommend anyone going here. read more

Went on a Friday evening for drinks and apps with a friend. Staff was super friendly and we got a table immediately. This place has a bunch of seating, multiple floors, 2 bars and a (new?) outside patio. We ordered purple rain and a mezcal drink and both were really good. Got a few apps - watermelon salad, burrata and panzanella salad. Everything was really good and good portions. We ended with tequila espresso martinis! Super disappointing and I really really wanted to like this place. Atmosphere: Made reservations and were seated "outside". It was fine, a little cold because the heater right above us was turned off although most of the others were on. It was super noisy outside and inside. Not just because of other patrons, but the music was crazy loud too. Restroom was pretty gross, wet, and dirty. Service: We were greeted and seated quickly. Service was only ok. Lack of check backs and lack of refills, and didn't offer any upselling like coffee with dessert. Drinks: My partner ordered a gin & tonic which had a strange flavor. Kiddo got a Shirley Temple which seemed fine. Food: Appetizers were promising. Oysters were fresh and the make your own charcuterie was yummy. Entrees took a long time to come out and the server didn't seem to notice. Of course they were cold when they arrived and the server was hard to flag down and didn't notice us not eating. Ended up with hot food on the recook but the lobster roll was bland and the lobster bisque was skimpy and also didn't have much going on. We opted for dessert, "upside down" crème brûlée and bananas foster bread pudding. The crème brûlée was, in fact, flan. No brûlée-ing occurred in the vicinity of this dessert. It was fine, just not crème brûlée which is my partner's go-to dessert. The bananas foster bread pudding was terrible. Odd flavor, no bananas to be seen, no caramel. Very strange. Overall, a pretty awful meal for $250. Do not recommend. read more

Disappointing experience. Went to dinner here tonight with a party of 6. I ordered a Hugo spritz that arrived without mint, one of the 3 ingredients... I wasn't told this before they brought it and expected me to just accept it. Disappointing for an $18 drink. Food and drinks took forever to arrive; other tables complained too. One person ordered the risotto fungi and another the side of risotto, but both risottos served came out as the sides. When the server was made aware of this mistake, he dismissed us completely by saying both menu items were exactly the same. It felt as though he didn't want to admit his own mistake. Drinks and food took a long time and waters were not refilled. Overall I found this to be a failure of the whole team. The server was clearly struggling and his bussers and managers should have stepped in to help. Disappointing when expecting and paying for a nice meal. To summarize, service was bad, drinks were bad, the food was meh, and management was absent. We won't be eating here again and you shouldn't either. read more

We went there with our toddler for 8pm dinner and appreciated that we were sat in a corner. The tables are kind of far apart and it's fairly noisy so it's great for a well behaved kid (i.e., being loud but stationary is probably ok). Food was amazing! We did the "build your own"charcuterie and a few of the side plates. The ambiance was really nice, kind of intimately lit but had a trendy crowd. Service was great and all of our dishes came out at once and didn't take too long at all. Bar and Board didn't start out well but overall ended fine. When we arrived Therese seems to be confusion at the hostess station. We had a reservations were seated when we arrived . We were seated in a quasi outer area that was a little warm at first but got better. Being seated next to the hostess station also made it a little hectic for our table. It also took a long time for someone to acknowledge us and take drink orders. Once all the chaos worked out the rest of the evening went well. We had oysters which were some of the best I've had and the table enjoyed the calamari and other appetizers. For dinner I had the haddock which was perfectly cooked but lacked some seasoning but tasty nonetheless. It came with a salad that had cold potatoes not something I'm used to but possibly a RI thing. Some of the table had warm lobster rolls that most really liked and I thought was great after tasting my wife's. Maybe I'm being hypercritical but after checking out their instagram and the surrounding tables, I was a little disappointed that the cocktails all came out in highball glasses when their pictures feature interesting glassware. I ordered the local grilled fish, a sea bass, and it came with some nice greens and potatoes but was pretty bland. I ended up asking for some lemon wedges to improve the flavor. My boyfriend got the burger and said it was great, my son got the lobster roll but didn't like it. He said he preferred the lobster roll from Panera Bread. SMH. I had a white sangria it was good. Food came out really quickly which was wonderful. Waitress was friendly & attentive for the most part... Overall service and ambiance was good, and the flavors were good. Went there late Thursday night, probably around 7:30-7:45. We were warmly greeted and sat at a high top. The place was dead. The server was pleasant and attentive. Charcuterie was awesome as was the clams. My daughter had a seafood pasta dish that was great, I just had duck drummettes which were tasty, but very dry and a little cold. To this point a nice meal. My wife had a lobster roll which halfway through she thought it smelled off. The server took away and asked if she wanted something else, but she didn't. They did take off the check, but the manager came out and swore it was fresh and she didn't smell anything. Which was a little confrontational in my opinion. They didn't ask if we wanted dessert before the kitchen closed and my wife had to ask for coffee, which he showed up with and no cream and sugar. I'd highly recommend any of the dishes we had. The build your own charcuterie board is fun and the perfect starter to please everyone. Salads and burger were delish as well. Their fried chicken side is Milanese style and is 10/10. Make sure you have a reservation for weekends if you want to dine in the dining room. Boy am I so glad we were able to find seating. It was super busy when we checked on Friday and wanted to make reservations for Saturday but we were told they were all booked! So no luck . Saturday night came and we decided we would give it a shot, I don't know what changed but there was room and a table for us ! Great ambiance outside, great evening. Bar & Board is our favorite spot in Newport! Service is spectacular. I wish I could remember our waitress's name. She made knowledgeable suggestions and they did not disappoint! I was swayed to indulge in their octopus cavatelli special, and it was probably one of the best things I have ever eaten. The octopus was perfectly cooked -- not rubbery at all -- and the portion was generous enough to share and have leftovers. If you are a seafood lover like me, do not skip this dish if it's on the menu! The restaurant itself is spacious and lively, with many different dining option vibes. We were seated on an upper level that was quiet and cozy at first, but quickly filled with lots of fun folks, including several bachelorette parties.
