We booked this resort for our 5 year anniversary because of the reviews and proximity to Haystack Rock. This review would have easily been 5 stars for all of the amenities this place has to offer. Everything changed when we were getting ready for bed, you know for spending $300+ a night you just trust the bed is clean with new linens. Wrong! I pull the covers and discover greenish stains with dried up brown stains in the middle of the sheets. I was completely thrown off and was disgusted with the sight of those stains. My husband calls guest services and guess who shows up...he looks like the maintenance guy. He says I got you new sheets do you need help putting them on? Are you friggin kidding me!?! There was no apology from guest services and to top it off I ended up changing the sheets with the help of the maintenance guy. Wow... I just didn't have the energy to complain it was already past 10pm and I wanted to just sleep. We also get a call for noise complaint which I thought was funny because we didn't make any noise they should have called the couple next door whose dog was barking all night and could easily hear through the walls their loud conversations. We got married here in October 2015. The wedding coordinator, Sarah Bunce, was a nightmare to work with. Sometimes she would not respond for weeks to simple questions that other vendors needed answers to. And now - two months after the fact - we still haven't been reimbursed for the money we gave them for services/goods we never received (which they are contractually obligated to give us). Also, we were double charged for our hotel room for the night before and of our wedding. I have called and emailed the business over the last two months and have yet to get a response. Please learn from our mistake - take your business somewhere else! We had stayed there several times in the past year and as far as using the hotel part of the business, things were fine. The bathrooms were nice and the beds were super comfy. It's too bad they've decided to screw us out of our money. We used to like the place a lot. read more

Been meaning to yelp this for a minute, just got to distracted. Anyways, took a spontaneous trip to the Oregon coast one frosty January Saturday morning. I decided a romantic get-away was in order, unfortunately I had not quite planned things in advance other then hit the ocean, and drive north. Fortunately, fate worked out kindly. The "exalted one" has always wanted to visit Astoria, so that was my goal. Remember that, you'll be quizzed later. Anyway, after a crazy day we finally decided to stay the night somewhere nice. A waiter in Astoria had recommended the Surfsand resort. So I called ahead and asked for room prices. They quoted me $175. Not to excited about the price, but I assumed they would have all the amenities required for a romantic get away. I was correct in this assumption. Now pay attention, do not believe the lies they tell you on the phone. Simply show up unannounced (use common sense and make sure they're not booked first), and talk to the 'commander' behind the desk face to face. My oceanfront room dropped to $135ish after about one minute of mindless small talk. Not bad. Now that's out of the way, lets discuss the quality. First off the room was as described, ocean front with a stunning view. Bed, soft, large, and the mattress about five feet off the ground. (Safety note, for those of you with vertically challenged women in your lives, DO NOT ask them if they'd like a stepping stool. This is key.) The bathroom had a nice two person tub, which had a (shoji?) screen you could pull back for a good view.. Not that I'm an expert in this department, but I guess all the oooing and aaahing I heard about the bathroom smelly soap and perfume things meant they were up to par as well. I could care less. There was a nice LCD flat screen present next to the shower though, this I cared for. Now, customer service. This is where, while the staff preformed above and beyond, they failed. Let me explain.. When you check in, they unfortunately offer you a list of any board games or dvd's you can have delivered to your room for free. Remember earlier in the story I mentioned the exalted one always wanted to visit Astoria? Guess what she found on the list, the Goonies. Guess what was filmed in Astoria?! Personally, I wanted to see Terminator Salvation. Guess what movie was not filmed in Astoria?! That's right, I drank champange and watched the Goonies like a man. Sometimes, sacrifices must be made.. I blame the front lobby. Otherwise, top notch service. Anyway, everything else including the fireplace was exceptional. I highly recommend this hotel. And another really cool thing is they allow dogs. Oh, the indoor heated pool and spa I heard were impressive as well. Can't comment on that since most of our precious time was in the room. Doing, other things, like watching Goonies. Yeah. That's it. read more

On a whim we decided we needed a quick getaway and spend a couple of days on the coast. There are so many choices but I keep coming back to Cannon Beach....just the sight of Haystack brings a certain Zen. Since this would be just a 2 day affair after a bit of research the Surfsand Resort seemed to be a good choice. I found a reasonable rate for a studio suite ......room and amenities seemed appropriate so we went for it. This is a "full service" resort complete with adjacent restaurants, indoor swimming pool, work out facility, massage etc etc ....we didn't want any of that just looking for a comfortable location to relax. The Surfsand Resort from this perspective did not disappoint. The suite was well accoutered ...gas fireplace, wet bar with new , clean fridge and micro....glass ware if needed. The bathroom was very large , with a double head walk in shower as well as a full bath...it even had a flat screen ( if your'e into that thing). The room was super comfortable, a high quality king size bed ...plenty of sitting and desk room and a large flat screen over the fireplace. I decided on a "partial view" suite....hey I'm from OR. and its less than 50 yards from the beach ...so a full ocean view didn't seem practical. ( you'll pay a 20-40% premium). I'm going to review one of the restaurants separately but as a hint...there are lots of great food choices ( albeit eat early ) in town. I like the location...a bit less touristy than further north on Hemlock. The staff was friendly, professional, helpful ....like a typical 4 star resort. The property was very well kept. I didn't use any of the other facilities but they appeared new and well maintained. The room was awesome....and that was what we were looking for. For a 3 or longer day stay I always suggest one of the many house/cottage rentals. But if you are looking for a short stay...or are from out of state looking for a great location, and well maintained resort...look no further,....the Surfsand will deliver. Parking is plentiful ...registration is efficient ...and relax...you're on vacation. read more

So much better than I could imagine... Lots of little touches leads to magnificent lodging...a private quiet bedroom with a true temperpedic brand bed, thick, soothing....super soft linens and fantastic pillows. I also like the sliding window above the bed to let in the soft sea air and the pitter pat of the rain and a nice wall mounted flat screen TV The bathroom offers a large for -two (three if you're kinky) shower, huge soaking tub and granite vanity with handsome hardware. And a nice wall mounted flat screen TV The main area offers a tastefully appointed area with breathtaking view, a patio door with a small sliding window for air and a lovely patio with quality chairs and mind numbing serenity with the awe inspiring view of the entire of Cannon Beach. There is a flip switch gas fireplace with no timer (yes!!) romantic and warm. There is also recessed lighting, soothing earth tones, room service and a wall mounted fault screen TV. Yes, if you' re keeping score, that's three TVs. And the wifi is free and fast and there no " resort fee" or parking fees. The one little quibble.....the tub is was not jetted like some other nearby resorts. It doesn't get much better than this resort! read more

Oh wow, the Surfsand Resort is definitely a top-notch place. Everything here felt really classy, and I could tell that the staff genuinely wanted me to have a nice stay there. Is this place the Ritz? or the Bel-Air Hotel? No. But it is clean, it's beautiful, spacious, and well-staffed. I came here a few weekends ago. I didn't end up paying for the stay personally, so I cannot attest to their prices, but I can attest to the experience. Our room had a balcony overlooking the ocean which was wonderful. We were so close to Haystack, I felt like I could touch it from the balcony (cheesy, I know). The room was huge and had a fireplace. I don't have a fireplace at home, so this was especially nice for me. I really appreciate that the room featured a mini kitchen area. There was an empty fridge, coffee maker with coffee, cutting board, utensils and dishes. I was really impressed to see this as I've never seen this in any previous hotel rooms where I've stayed. Did I mention that the soaps and shampoos were L'occitane? Ya, that was cool too. Another charm about this hotel- every night, there were fresh baked cookies and milk in the lobby. Some nights there was also complimentary ice cream and popcorn. Speaking of, the hotel also offered a large selection of DVDs that you could borrow for the night. And, on non-rainy nights, for a small price, the hotel will set up a fire with chairs and all the s'mores fixings out on the beach for you and your party. All in all, this hotel offered a wonderful experience and was located very centrally in the heart of Cannon beach. read more

This place is obviously awesome and like most everybody else, I loved the luxurious accommodations - comfy bed, soft sheets, gas fireplace, HUGE bathroom (I felt like I should be entertaining guests in that bathroom!) The staff is attentive, professional....especially the guys on the beach. They stay in the background but never fail to make sure you have chairs, towels, firewood for beach bonfires, marshmallows.... And of course, the ocean view room that was just a step or two from the sand...the best! I've stayed a few places in Cannon Beach and there is nothing better than this place if you're looking to be as close to sand and water as possible. Another thing I appreciated....the way the buildings are laid out, and with how much beach area there actually is, this is a great place for families without making singles or couples feel like they're surrounded by kids. It's one of the few family style resorts that I've been to that doesn't make me hate family style resorts. So why only 3 stars? Because I got stuck sleeping next door to a bunch of d-bags. Not the resort's fault - I get it - but it still contributed greatly to my experience, so here's a tip so it hopefully won't happen to you: Stay away from the ocean front view building that is closest to the main beach path, where the outdoor showers and massage room are located. That area seems to attract drunks who stay up all night and swear and argue and then finally end up climbing up onto your private balcony...feet from where you are trying to sleep. Not even kidding. When I asked the guy to remove himself from my balcony before I got mad and decided to shoot him, he said "women with guns turn me on, bitch." Wow. If I was turned on by 50-year-old fat dudes with no class and balding mullets, we'd be set. Anyway, after about a half hour of this, I called the front desk and they did their best to deal with the idiot, but he kept coming back. I eventually had to close my patio door, which completely sucks - there's no ac in the rooms and the ocean breeze is not just part of the experience, it's a necessity on hot sticky nights. It all worked out kinda okay because the next night the couple next door to me sat on their balcony smoking pot all night so the contact high provided a much needed good night's sleep. I'll be back for what I'm sure will be a 4 or 5 star stay. read more

We arrived in Cannon Beach just before sunset, and navigated ourselves to this resort by searching top-rated places to stay in CB that were also dog-friendly (did I not mention we decided to take our 60-pound bark-o-rama crazy dog with us? Because WE DID). It could not have been *more* perfect! A beach-front room on the top floor with an amazing view, dog goodies (bed, towels, bowls) provided, a fireplace, a huge bathroom with a lovely soaking tub, a DVD player with movies for "rent" (free) + a bag of popcorn at the front desk, free Wi-Fi, and an attached restaurant. Also: they greet you with freshly-baked chocolate chip cookies and cold milk. :) Also, since it was November, the rate was cut nearly in half! YES. We ventured out onto the beach (very few people out there - which was AWESOME) and took a million sunset photos while the dog romped around happily, peeked into all the starfish-packed tide pools, and then washed off our pet's feet at the provided outdoor shower area, complete with clean towels for drying. Then we settled into our room and ordered from The Wayfarer (separate review), and I headed back to the check-in area to pick up The Goonies (had to be done, even though I'm not a huge fan of that movie, since we had driven through Astoria and they use Haystack Rock in the movie). When I asked the super-nice front desk guy about wine, he directed me to 2 different convenience stores, each located about a block away. I picked up a bottle of red to go with dinner and we were all set! Great room service, a soak in the tub, plush robes, a warm fire, and the sound of the waves outside - we were asleep in no time, and the bed was really plush and comfortable too. I would like to start out by warning you that I am a teenager born and raised surrounded by technology. I cannot survive without my phone or my macbook, so naturally, I brought both. We get put in a room that has absolutely NO cell reception, you're lucky to get one bar. So I just entertained myself by hopping around on the internet complaining about my lack of cellular reception. Thankfully, we were able to switch to a room that had plenty of cell reception, so I could text freely. Something I was exceedingly happy about. There was one thing I did lose in the process: my internet. I either had one or the other, and it pissed me off. This review is my revenge. read more

Fabulous resort! Made us feel welcome, loved the setting on the beach. Beds were comfortable, rooms made up nicely. Excellent bath products. Amazing service. Definitely a spot to remember! Complimentary sand bucket and shovel for my daughter, camp fire on the beach, fireplace in the room, great ambiance. Everything was stellar! For my beach trips I have a few requirements... must be on the beach (why else would you be at the beach?) or have an amazing view of the waves breaking. Also my wife's dog needs a place that will accept her.. and here for a small fee they let her stay and give her treats, a little blankie, towel, and doggie bowls. Now if we didn't have a dog I would stay other places, but this place will do great until our lil old dog goes on to dog hell or heaven. We have tried two types of rooms, but we now only stay in the beach-front suites which have a separate bedroom, an awesome soaking tub with a shoji screen which allows you to see the waves from the bath, and a nice little patio. A couple other big plus marks... they have nice chairs and windbreaks out on the beach (great for some reading), and for $10 you can have a personal bonfire, or for free sit at the group bonfire which generally seems to be empty when we have gone. So overall, one of our favorite places at Cannon Beach which takes dogs and is beach-front. Just make sure you haggle a bit - no good traveler should accept the rates they are given. read more

This place is officially called the "Surfsand Resort Motel". Their marketing team has dropped the last word, but I'd disagree. The rooms are recently re-done (4 star caliber), everything else is reflective of the "Motel" part. If you have kids and a dog, you'll probably love this place. We don't have either. Surfsand has a fantastic view of all three rock formations coming out of the water (this is no Ha Long Bay-- all the pictures are of the same handful of rocks). The room are 4 stars- Don't get dooped into getting the inferior ocean front room: It was like staying in a garden apartment with a view of people's knee-caps. We walked in on the ground floor, passed the elevators and had to walk down 13 stairs to our room- They couldn't be bothered to run an elevator down to the basement (at $200-250 per night!) We didn't eat at their restaurant, but the service is more in-line with a 2 star (want a bucket for wine, try the ice bucket). Other things missing were any sort of room service after 10 PM, HBO, AC/even a fan. They did make sure to add LCD's to the rooms (bedroom and bathroom)- which makes their room pictures awesome. Luckily, next door some one opened up a 1st class Italian/French restaurant ("Newmans At 988"), whose proximity was the highlight of staying at the hotel. read more

My bf surprised me with a weekend at Cannon beach. He got us a room overlooking the beachfront with a direct view of Haystack rock! It was beautiful to walk into, with a direct image of the sunset and sunrise. Did I mention the bed was a tempurpedic?! I wish I could take that home. Room was spacious, the hotel provided complimentary coffee/tea/milk for the kiddos, bikes to ride through town (we took these along the beach), movies/microwaveable popcorn and awesome front desk service. I wish I remembered the 2 women who helped us on our first night there, but they were awesome. I've already recommended this place to friends to stay, and I'd definitely come back again. read more

Britney and I visited the Surfsand Resort for my cousin's wedding. It was awesome! I wish I had asked for the names of all of the employees so that I could call them out individually they were all so helpful. The only one that I know is Kammie (I am not sure how to spell it) She was amazing. Our reservations were a little complicated but everything went off without a hitch thanks to her and the staff there. I felt welcome here, unlike many places they didn't act snobby or rude. The staff was happy to help. They wrote our dog's names on a cute dog chalkboard at the front. They also had special baskets for each of our dogs prepared in our room. For a dog lover like me that really put a smile on my face. The manager was awesome and accommodating. I will go back here and I will recommend it to everyone. Great job guys!! read more

When in cannon Beach, it is definitely worth it to stay right on the beach, and the Surfsand sets itself apart with modern amenities, location, and restaurant. The rooms are updated and instead of old tacky furniture, one gets flat screen TVs, memory foam beds, and dual-shower heads. The ocean front rooms have a completely unobstructed view. we opted for a beach level view, which is a half basement, but still had a great view (only problem is noise as you are right at the deck level and below stairs). The fitness center is small, but the equipment is all new. And The Surfsand is one of the few places with a restaurant on-site and room service, which is a big plus. So overall, I would definitely recommend the Surfsand, but splurge on a top floor oceanview room with a balcony for the best possible experience. read more

We use to stay here for years until they remodeled. Now theyve hiked the prices up and made the rooms smaller. In order to stay there now, for a family of five, they want us to book 2 rooms! Over $700 a night!! I cant believe it. It was a blessing in disguise since weve moved over to the Guest House Motel right next door, where I can rent a whole entire house for less than one nights stay at the Surf Sand. We can stay longer and cheaper. We dont spend enough time in our rooms to justify paying that amount. read more

The Surfsand Resort sits in between the Haystack Rock/Tolovana portion of Cannon Beach and "downtown" Cannon Beach. The hotel has a 3-story beachfront building and several other non-beach-facing buildings. The staff is friendly and the hotel is a nice place to spend the weekend. We chose a beachfront room for a November weekend retreat and we found the accommodations to be small, somewhat uncomfortable, but offering a tremendous view, nice amenities and a decent bathroom. Here are the details of what we found: FLOORPLAN: The floorplan is a bit hokey and you will find yourself having to get out of each other's way at times. BEDROOM: The room is small and the king size bed engulfs the room. The window overlooks the parking lot, so noise can be an issue at times. The Tempurpedic bed sleeps VERY hot and that affected our sleep a bit. LIVING ROOM: The living room has a gas fireplace that warms the room nicely. A large wall of windows provides a wonderful view of the Pacific Ocean and, slightly to the left, Haystack Rock and The Needles. The furniture is a bit uncomfortable and the lack of pillows means no naps will be had there. BATHROOM: A sliding window allows guests to sit in the large soaking tub while looking out toward the ocean. The shower is large and the water flow excellent. The sink area is small and the toilet is exposed in the room, so be advised. AMENITIES: The room has a small fridge and microwave, DVD player and flat screen TV (no HD television, though) and a small amount of silverware, cups and glasses. The bathroom has Aveda products (my wife liked that!) and the wall heaters work well. One tip is to ask for a room with a balcony on the 2nd or 3rd floor. The 1st floor rooms in the beachfront building are more like a basement and have no porch. I think the Surfsand is a great place to stay in the off-season, though the prices are probably not worth the comfort level of the room during the peak season. read more

re: vacation This is a great place to stay if you it's within your budget or if you want to splurge a little. Surfsand is extremely friendly to dogs. Unfortunately, they do not allow their dogs to stay in the rooms unsupervised. I kind of wish they would allow them to stay crated or even if they had a doggy daycare setup. This resort is conveniently located right up against the beach. We didn't have a view of the Haystack Rock from our room, but that would have been extremely nice. The resort has daily activities and sometimes snacks. This is a great stay. I will definitely stay here again. read more

Excellent customer service! Unfortunately we only got to spend one night but I really want to go back already. We got off to a great start when we were able to check in early. Then we got to the room, it was so big and plush. Oh my God, the bed was so amazing, I didn't want to get up! The view was amazing and all the little touches. We didn't go to the bonfire but we watched from our room. We all took turns in the huge tub. The staff did everything they could to make sure we had a great time. With turn down service, they made the pull out be up and even had sheets and blankets for the little futon we needed as well. We slept with the door open and the fireplace on! Did I mention the super comfortable bed? Great place, get a beach view, totally worth it read more

We come to Cannon Beach and always rent a house. This year decided to stay at SurfSand. Oh my goodness. I will not rent again. This resort offers so many perks, it is awesome. Cabana services on the beach. Bonfires each night. Cookies at 3:30pm Great room service and traditional turn downs. We just spent one night there (3/20/10 First Saturday night of Spring Break) with our three kids in suite on 4th floor and I have to say, flat out the best hotel on the Oregon Coast we have ever stayed at. While I tend to prefer renting a house, this was truly special. Pricey, $209 for the night (offseason rate I am told) but worth every penny for the amazing, attentive staff (Chuck at front desk is awesome), renovated rooms and one of the best public access to the best beach in Oregon...Haystack Rock feet from our door. The hotel is totally new it seems (although one of the oldest on the Oregon Coast). The rooms were spectacular, new Tempurpedic beds, a TV in the main room, master and bathroom. The view of course is legendary and the fireplace in the master and main room are a nice touch. We arrived four hours prior to check in and the staff was great about collecting our bags while we wandered the beach and went out to Haystack Rock as the tide was just starting to come back in. As a lifetime Oregonian I was blown away and so impressed by the Haystack Rock Preservation Society's staff and volunteers who are teaming all over the place educating and interacting with adults and kids and educating us all about the life all around. It was then lunchtime... The hotel is just south of downtown Cannon Beach, a wonderful five minute walk down the street and your in downtown Cannon Beach where a visit to the Cannon Beach Bakery and Bruce's candy are required! (right of passage for any kid under 10) Back to the Surfsand and check in was speedy, but also went on right at the moment of the Saturday afternoon ice cream social in the lobby. Kids each loaded up with a double scoop of Tillamook Ice Cream and we were off to the room to change into swim suits as the rain was still pouring. I must say the pool, hot tub and work out facilities rocked because the kids required another swim on Sunday! Our rainy Saturday night included the Surfsands HUGE selection of free DVD's, a few hotel provided bags of microwave popcorn and an amazing pie from "Pizza a Fetta" Bottomline is it is hard to screw up a visit to Cannon Beach. The Surfsand has clearly figured out the equation to make the experience ten times better and WE WILL be back. read more

Everything good I said in my prior review about Surfsand is true: they are right on Cannon Beach with Haystack rock right outside your door, and you can fall asleep to the sound of the Pacific ocean surf with waves crashing outside your window. You walk right out onto the beach and don't have to climb down (or back up) some huge staircase for beach access. They offer several dog friendly rooms and Cannon Beach itself is a dog friendly Oregon beach. The Wayfarer restaurant is right next door for delicious dining (and now offering room service to Surfsand) and a mini market is located right in the front of the property. The rooms have all been recently remodeled with a clean modern feel. The rooms are immaculate: even the dog-friendly rooms. The beds are memory foam, the bathrooms have either super powerful double head showers or soaking tubs and Aveda bath products. Flat screen Tvs in all the rooms (even in the bathroom) and a nice selection of videos in the lobby, plus cable TV and free wi-fi. It's a fabulous beach getaway for Portlanders, or a wonderful destination for those who have never seen how breathtaking the Northern Oregon coast really is. In my prior review, I had complained that Surfsand never remembered me (even though I have stayed here off and on for more than ten years now), but they have clearly improved their computer system - because the last two stays this has not been a problem. They even left a personalized "welcome back" notecard and box of chocolates in our room this time--thanks Surfsand. This is about as close to five star as you will find on Cannon Beach (certainly the closest one to Haystack rock and to town--you can walk to many shops from here). Stay at Surfsand during off season for the best prices and winter deals. You would be surprised how many nice days there are, even in the dead of winter. Winter storms are common, but very relaxing from inside the room with your fireplace on. This is my favorite hotel in Cannon Beach. read more

The past two times we visited Cannon Beach we stayed at the Stephanie Inn so our expectations for accomodations were pretty high. Surfsand definitely exceeded expectations. Pros: -The bottom floor studio was nice, clean and roomy and had a beach view. -Internet access -Comfortable king-size Tempurpedic bed -Proximity to the beach and Haystack Rock -Allow pets -Friendly staff Cons: -No cell service from the room, which is probably a plus if you're on vacation. :) -Bottom floor studio has a nice view but the walk way is in front of the window so there is little privacy but luckily it was Winter so very little traffic. In an example of how great the service was, they called us after we left to inform us that we forgot a few items and will forward it to us by mail at no extra charge. We are definitely staying here the next time we visit. read more

I'm blown away. Bliss! I'll get straight into the details why I just came back from one of the most amazing weekend getaways ever. 1. Little surprises go a long way - I'm a marketer so I'm a sucker for a creative deal. I checked in on facebook, and was pleasantly presented with "Check in while checking in and get a special gift. Present the screen to your personal agent and they will take care of the rest!" What was it? $10.00 off your stay. Like I said, small surprise but definitely set the mood from the start :) 2. Pups are considered family - We were presented with a little doggy basket, filled with extra poop bags, treats, towels, and even a sleeping blanket for your pooch! Needless to say, my black lab was happy, but the doggie bowls they provide were a bit too small for her size (she finished her bowl of water in two gulps). 3. Free entertainment, all day, everyday - They have a massive DVD collection that you can check out for free. Wifi is available on their dime, too! I'm a cliche, and watched Goonies... 4. We have been to Cannon Beach six times, four times with two toddlers. This resort is amazingly clean and the staff is quite friendly and helpful. The resort in the name lives up to its promise. Top-notch heated pool and spa-like bathrooms give a pampered feel. At the same time it is kid friendly with the Taffy Kids' Club, kids crafts, and kids eat free promo. We were quite pleased with the immediate beach access without walking down three flights of stairs like other beachfront properties we've visited. However, for $300 plus a night, we were a bit disapponted not to receive more complimentary deals, such as the evening bonfire. Recently stayed a weekend with my wife in celebration of her birthday. We were immediately impressed with the room, the balcony, and the view of the beach. Most of all though was the thoughtfulness of the staff. They went the extra mile to make us feel welcome. The couples massage we had was well worth it. Only stayed one night. Beautiful location right on the beach. Haystack rock is within walking distance. Hang out on the beach at night for fire pits and s'mores. Really a pretty sight. Nice rooms with fireplaces. Huge soaking tub and separate glass shower. Beds are Devine and sofa bed was extremely comfortable. Slept with the sliding doors to the balcony open so the ocean could lull us to sleep. Great place to stay. read more

Perfect kid-friendly get-a-way!!! We were absolutely trilled with our recent family vacation to Sunsurf Resort. This place was awesome. SUPER kid friendly but not cheesy. So many perks (free DVD's & popcorn, kids eat free in 2 restaurants, nightly bonfire with s'mores, cute turn down service with toys, cookies & milk in the lobby, all you can eat saltwater taffy, daily kids crafts/activities, etc.) The one-bedroom suite EASILY accommodated our family of 5. It was spacious, with an amazing beachfront view, massive bathroom with tub AND shower. King sized temperpedic mattress was a dream. Complementary pack n play. Housekeeping kept our room well stocked with towels and dishes. The staff was extremely accommodating, friendly and helpful. Room service was fast. The town was adorable. It was an excellent family vacation. 3 days wasn't enough. read more

I can't believe it took me this long to write this review. I stayed here with a a friend for a ladies weekend away over MLK weekend this year. It was my first time staying on the Oregon Coast (I've been living in Portland for almost 2 years at this point. for shame!), and I was love-struck. Sure, the room wasn't cheap, but the cozy bed, the cozy fireplace and the could-not-be-more-ON-the-beach location was just perfect for a drizzly winter beach weekend. Yes, it's a bit of a walk to the downtown area, but why did you come here if not to go for walks on the beach? Oh, and they have free cookies and salt water taffy in the lobby. The Surfsand is located RIGHT on the beach and it's dog friendly....what more could you want in your Cannon Beach accommodations? Everything from check-in to check-out was easy and friendly. Friday night is movie night so they were popping fresh popcorn in the lobby and had a ton of fresh chocolate chip cookies out that JP enjoyed. They provided us with a list of DVDs they had and said just to call with our selection and they would bring it to the room (which they did when we called later on....they also provided us with some microwave popcorn for our dog when we stopped in after dinner and the fresh popcorn was already gone). The property is small with the main beachfront building and then the non-beachfront building adjacent to the lobby. Property is newly updated and the rooms were outstanding. Flat screen TVs in the bedroom and bathroom. The small fridge was great for keeping our fruit and cheese and it was nice to have real glassware to enjoy a glass of wine with. Our room also had a gas fireplace which was so nice to snuggle in front of (and it helped to dry the dog off from all the ocean swimming!) Our room also had a great sitting area with two comfortable chairs we could read in and check out the ocean view. The bathroom is a good size and the walk-in shower has a dual shower head....plus it's stocked with Aveda products! The fitness center is small but all of the equipment is new and in great working order (cardio equipment also has personal TVs....headphones are available there). They have 2 treadmills, 2 ellipticals and one bike, along with free weights, mats and a couple of stability balls. Tons of clean towns, a men's and women's sauna and a restroom....definitely a great little place to get your sweat on if you didn't want to run on the beach. We didn't check out the pool or hot tub, although I could see part of it from the fitness center... it didn't seem huge, but all the kids seemed to be enjoying it. I would definitely stay here again...can't beat the view, CLOSE beach access right out your room (and view of Haystack) and the on-site service and amenities. read more

My partner and I chose to go to the Surfsand Resort for a relaxing weekend getaway after a grueling winter of work and school. I am happy to say we left happy and rejuvenated! Upon our arrival, the front desk staff promptly checked us in. They offered us glass of refreshing strawberry mint water and then provided us with an event calendar, the times of high- and low-tides, as well as a listing of their extensive free DVD library. We chose to stay in the less expensive Beachfront Limited View Guest Room. Despite the lower price, I was very impressed with the accommodations. The room was clean and modern, outfitted with a comfy tempur-pedic bed, plasma screen TV, electric fireplace, and elegant bathroom with a spacious walk-in shower. The view was also exceptional! I was expecting to see a bit of ocean while sanding on my tippy-toes directly in front the window, but what we got was a really nice beach-scape with a full view of Haystack Rock in the distance. And the best part: enjoying the BEACH! Entrance is located only feet away from each room. The resort is situated almost directly in front of Haystack Rock, so it's very easy to go enjoy the tide pools at low-tide. Overall, I greatly enjoyed my romantic weekend getaway, and I would recommend the Surfsand Resort to couples, families, and even pets alike because of the friendly staff, relaxing atmosphere, and wide range of amenities provided to guests. read more

Unexpectedly nice experience at our first visit. Check-in was quick, and the front desk staff was very informative and friendly without being intrusive. Our Beachfront Building king-sized room was spacious, lovely, clean, and pleasant. We had a great view to the north of Cannon Beach (Haystack Rock was blocked by the Oceanfront Building). The bed was incredibly comfortable, and the room had all the small amenities I always hope for (corkscrew, wine glasses, coffee and accompaniments, a throw blanket, robes, DVD player, etc.). We ended up using the free movie rental (The Goonies, of course), and were pleased with the great selection of current and older movies. Our only complaint was that there were lots of kids and dogs at the property -- but we fully understood that this "resort" caters to families and people with pets. I would stay at Surfsand again, but probably not during the summer high season. We paid about $300 for the King Oceanfront room, booked about a month in advance via the Surfsand website. This was a bit steeper than I would have liked, but the room and property were very nice and worth the price. read more

We stayed in a suite (1210) in the beachfront building and loved it. The jaw-dropping views of Haystack Rock, comfy furniture, gas fireplace and enormous bathrooms (love those Aveda products!) were phenomenal. Factoring in the size of the suite, its amenities, and the view, Surfsand offers bang for the buck almost unheard of for any beachfront community. Note: if you are staying the beachfront building, you should make sure your room does not have a "1" as the second digit in the room number (example: 1102), because the first floor of the beachfront building actually sits somewhat below the deck facing the ocean. As a result, those rooms do not have balconies and appear darker. Service all around is friendly and accommodating. Charging privileges at the Lumberyard, Stephanie Inn and Wayfarer are a nice touch. The health club is small but stocked with modern equipment. Near the front of the hotel are a small coffee shop, a bagel shop and a convenience store for things like bottled water, drinks and souvenirs. Downtown Cannon Beach is within easy (10 minutes) walking distance, though the walk back to the hotel is somewhat uphill, so be prepared for that. A couple of minor things bothered me: the bedrooms, located near the front door, are somewhat dark since the windows face the exterior walkways. Also, the remote to the tv in the living room did not function properly - not a big deal, really, since we were gone most of the day and watched one of the free DVDs available for check-out at the front desk. With such spectacular views from a suite this luxurious, though, I'm not complaining. Surfsand is a true gem. read more

The Surfsand is wonderfully cozy. We try to come every year, if not more often, and always enjoy our time here thoroughly. The lobby has cookies and milk every afternoon, and movies and board games to rent if you're looking for a weekend in (and with such comfortable rooms, it's hard to go out!). Everyone we've encountered that works at the Surfsand is helpful and kind. The beachfront location is awesome, and the views from the rooms are spectacular. For the best views, I recommend staying in the Beachfront Building - then you get a view of the entire beach, including Haystack Rock. The pool and hot tub area are great, as well - if you're going there to relax, just try to go when no one else is there, as we've had a couple of awkward experiences sharing the hot tub with overly affectionate couples and large groups of loudly gossiping ladies. Another note if you're looking for a relaxing weekend away - don't go when there's any sort of event or festival in town. Our previous visits painted Cannon Beach and the Surfsand as a sleepy little beach town, and you can definitely tell when there's a larger influx of people in town for an event. This last trip, we were in town for the yoga festival - hence our encounter with the large group of gossiping ladies in the pool area. Next time we will check the calendar to avoid this. read more

I just have to say that my husband & I's stay at SurfSand last weekend was one of the best weekends I have had in a long time. From the first point of contact over the phone, the concierge were first class. My previous work experience took me to some of the highest rated properties in the US (Calistoga Ranch/ Four Seasons SF/Miami.. Etc) so I understand quality staff....and the Surfsand staff was as good as it gets especially the ladies at the front desk. List of my favorite SurfSand Perks: 1. Made a spontaneous trip to Cannon Beach with a friend for a one night stay. Made last minute reservations. The staff at Surfsands were all very accommodating and polite. Service was very prompt and professional. The room itself was amazing, very clean, with a great view and great access to the beach. Seemed very family friendly (we came without children) but wasn't overly noisy at all. The beds were very comfortable. Inside the room it seemed the resort had thought of everything to make a beach trip very fun. Providing lanterns and extra blankets. Room service that's provided by the hotel next door was delicious and made a very luxurious morning eating breakfast in our pj's and listening and watching the waves on the beach.
