This place definitely has really good shrimp (sooo warm and fresh and tasty). I also tried Maui and Cabo San Lucas (steak); they were all right. Maui was good but had cold fish meat, which I didn't realize, as I like hot/warm meat better. Cabo San Lucas steak was a bit too tough for me. Go on Tuesdays to get a free third taco! The convenience of it being in such a prime location was a major plus. However, there were a few aspects of my experience that left me with mixed feelings. It was kind of surprising to me that the restaurant didn't have any cups of water. Instead, they insisted on selling bottled water, which I found a bit inconvenient and unnecessary. It would have been nice to have the option of free water, especially considering the prices. In regards to pricing, it was definitely on the pricier side. For reference, I ordered the Belize Quesadilla, which after tax and tip came up to $18.65. Even glancing at the rest of the menu, everything seemed to be similarly priced. Especially as someone who grew up in Texas, there are definitely better, cheaper options. Nevertheless, I am willing to give it a pass due to its location on the wharf, which often tends to be associated with higher prices. For food, I do feel like it fell somewhere in the middle for me. It wasn't really outstanding or memorable enough to make it my first choice for future visits, but it was decent enough for a quick fix. The interior was the highlight of the experience. It was super well decorated and was one of the factors that really drew me into the restaurant in the first place. The thing that stood out most to me was it's lack of service efficiency. Despite there being only two people ahead of me in line, it took way longer than expected to place my order. I noticed that there were individuals at the next window engaged in casual conversations, seemingly disregarding the waiting customers. Overall, this restaurant's prime location on the wharf made it a convenient option, especially for grab-and-go meals. However, the general experience definitely has room for improvement. I came here for Happy Hour before a concert. The restaurant is located at The Wharf. The outdoor environment is very nice. The food is so so. We ordered nachos to share between me and a friend. They asked if we wanted to add chicken and guac to which we said sure, like it should have just came with the nachos already. We ate our food and drinks then when we got the bill, to our surprise... they charged an extra $10 for chicken and guac!! That is insane, especially since the nachos were already $8 without the extra. You could go to any bar and get better nachos that already include chicken and guac for way less. This taco joint opened up at the Wharf recently and I was excited to try it. I really wanted to like it because it's another relatively affordable (more on than below) option and the interior decor is bright and colorful. However, I'm giving 3 out of 5 stars because the fish in the tacos didn't taste fresh. And for a place that touts their "fresh fare inspired by the beach," they fall short of their promise on freshness. There are some good things and some bad things to take away from Surfside. The price: Now, this place has a great Taco Tuesday deal. This is an awesome deal. Normally each taco dish comes at an average of $11 each with two tacos per order. BUT on Taco Tuesday, you get an extra taco with each order. So that brings the average down from over $5 for a single taco to roughly $3, which is much more reasonable. So on Taco Tuesday, the price is your friend. All other days, eh. I should say, also, that each taco is pretty hefty: large, heavy, and overfilled--which is great. The presentation and sides: Another thing I really liked was how colorful and full the dishes looked. I think the avocado, sauces, beans, and rice were mostly good. The yellow rice in particular was delicious--above average! It's unfortunate that the fish itself just wasn't fresh or pleasant to eat. The tacos: The fish tacos (Maui with grilled dorade and Negril with backened redfish) were very unpleasant. They had a fishy smell and taste which tells me the fish wasn't fresh to say the least. Further the skin on the fish was fatty and chewy. I took a bit of taco and a long piece of skin was dangling outside my mouth. You need a serious bite to chew that skin down and it wasn't worth it considering the fishiness in the flavor. The shrimp taco (Antigua with green goddess sauce) was better. But nothing special. The shrimp was a bit crunchy for my taste. Also, for how good the sauces were overall, the green goddess dressing on the Antigua taco was not good. It had a strong bitter aftertaste. This is easily my favorite dressing of all time but at Surfside it just wasn't good. The chicken tacos (Punta Cana with fried chicken and the Bora Bora with grilled chicken and mandarin) were pretty good. The Punta Cana was the best taco we tried overall. The Bora Bora had a lot of great seasoning and bold flavors with the mandarin adding a sweetness to each bite. Pretty solid. The quesadilla: Finally, the quesadilla was pretty good. I really liked the combination of the squash, shrimp, mango, and cheese in the St. Croix. It was a success. Overall: The shrimp quesadilla and the yellow rice were really good. But the fish tacos were disappointing and didn't taste fresh. I may give it another shot at a later point in time, stirring away from the fish, of course. read more

This is one of my favorite places to get lunch - it's filling, fresh and (usually) timely. The order ahead feature on surfside's own site is a great bonus though it doesn't actually update when your order is ready, so just ask for it at the counter when it has been the estimated amount of time. Over the years I've been to all of Surfside's locations and tried a large percentage of the menu but my go-to is the Nevis. The shrimp are *huge* and a great bang for your buck. Complimented by fresh guac and mango salsa it really is my dream meal. I am not a fan of their corn tacos (mealy texture) so either sub with the flour or just eat the plentiful flavored rice that comes in the tacos and as a side. Seating inside is limited as this is a tiny shop but they have some dedicated outdoor seating and large amount of Wharf seats in front of the shop which are never full. No bathrooms but there are nice public ones just around the corner. read more

I'm having the Negril Fish Tacos, beans and rice, strawberry lemonade, chips and salsa, and 1 steak taco. It's hot outside but the air coming from the indoors makes it tolerable, plus we are in a lot of shade. It's beautiful in this area. The bag of chips is enough for several people. The other family members are having chicken enchiladas and steak quesadillas with strawberry lemonade. The braised beans are spicy and delicious. The fish tacos are flavorful, spicy, and delicious. The gentleman behind the counter quickly greeted me and handed me my order. -The menu board is large enough that you could see it even if you were standing outside. -I ordered the Andros (grilled steak burrito with corn, slow-roasted tomato, cucumber yogurt, and yellow rice) with a side of pineapple mango salsa because obviously. -I always give an extra measure of grace to restaurants with pickup or delivery orders because it's out of their hands once the plate leaves the kitchen--but no need in this case because everything was great! The steak was tender and well-seasoned, the cucumber yogurt was present but not overpowering, and in general I really enjoyed the burrito. I only ate half because I was quickly stuffed. Delicious!!! My friend and I ordered the mushroom and shrimp taco and just shared. I really enjoyed both of them, such amazing flavors really complimenting one another. I loved the mango salsa in the shrimp taco. The cooked tomato in the mushrooms added so much juiciness and flavor and the cheese and sauce just topped it off. I'm so happy they opened a surfside in this area and will definitely be going back anytime I'm at the wharf. It totally beats all the boogie restaurants near by but I could understand if you want a fancier dine in experience. They left the door open in the middle of winter which was the only downer, lots of people ordering take out but everyone eating inside was absolutely freezing, I asked them to close the door and they said they would but didn't.
