There are a few tables out front but this seems more like takeaway dining. The horchata is incredibly tasty, the strawberry lemonade is super sweet, so be prepared. We also tried the Montego Bay Punch. I recommend this drink. The chips for the nachos are delicious. We had them with brisket that was soft and tender. The tacos al pastor we're also tasty and came with slices of pineapple. Very delicious. The chicken tingas was acceptable. Good but nothing fabulous. The rice in the plate was not worth purchasing. Surfside Taco cooks up some high quality to-go food in northwest DC. The dishes are influenced by southern California beach cuisine. I don't exactly think they got it all right, but the tacos were fresh and filling. I enjoyed them. When I arrived to eat, the line was about five or six deep. The restaurant did a good job of keeping it moving. I waited about five or six minutes to place my order and then another five minutes or so to be served. I would expect it to take a little longer during peak hours however the staff looked like they were up for the challenge. Unfortunately, I'm not local, so this is more or likely a one-time visit. Then subsequently, every time after, my thoughts are "wow, how do they make my orders so tasty, speedy and correct every time? They run a tight (taco) ship!" To be fair, I've never actually had their tacos. I'm usually starving and need more food so I've had their quesadillas and their burritos and those two are the way to go! It's nice that Surfside Dupont is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. No indoor dining and they have a few tables and chairs for outdoor dining. However, we noticed that they put away their tables and chairs around 9 PM. So I guess after 9 PM, the restaurant is strictly to-go. I had the Birria tacos which has braised beef, jack cheese, onion and cilantro on corn tortillas. The rest of the family had the Bora Bora tacos with grilled chicken, mandarin oranges, avocado, cilantro on flour tortillas, the Cabo San Lucas tacos which grilled steak, grilled peppers and onions, guacamole, lime, and cilantro on flour tortillas, and the Bonaire burrito with grilled chicken, pico de gallo, lime, jack cheese, and yellow rice. The taco plates come with a side of yellow rice. Surfside Duport around 9 PM was busy but service was fast. The entire family loved their food. I went for dinner and they got my order wrong and overcharged me; when I noticed and told them they gave me the right dish but didn't apologize or refund me the difference. Also, the tacos are $15 for 2 tacos, with a little scoop of rice on the side (but no beans). It's takeout only and there's no seating but the suggested tip amounts are 18%, 20%, and 25% on top of the already inflated prices. Tonight, I had a an itch that needed to scratched and decided to drive to Surfside Taco. The food is still amazing and worth the trip, regardless of what others my say. I got my usual, the St. Croix and my son had the Cabo San Lucas. This was my sun's second time going to D.C. since 2018 and his first time ever eating at Surfside. He fell in love. My son said that Surfside has the best tacos in the area (I agree to an extent). I apologize for not having pictures, but we ate everything in the car on one of the side streets before going back to Maryland. I was unsure of what to order at first, but the Yelp photos of the Bora Bora chicken tacos caught my eye (and getting a side of rice was a bonus). I generally don't gravitate to chicken as my protein, but the Bora Bora tacos ($9.85) did not disappoint. The chicken was moist and super flavorful, with a teriyaki-like taste. I loved the acidity from the mandarin oranges, creaminess of the fresh avocado, freshness from the cilantro and radish, and the peanut sambal gave it some extra flavor. I inhaled my two tacos. Service was quick - I was in and out in less than 10 minutes - so this is a great option for a grab-and-go lunch. I also appreciate how my entree was thoughtfully packaged. The tacos were served on top of foil to keep the tortillas from getting soggy by the rice. My entree was garnished with a lime, which I squeezed on top of the tacos and rice to punch up the flavor. I'm not sure if I just ate on a bad day or what but my tacos were not at all appetizing. I got the Tulum (chicken tinga) tacos, and it couldn't be more dry of a meal. It was completely awful! I literally threw out the entire two tacos. I was able to scrape off the pica de gallo and add that to the rice -which I actually thought was quite good. My husband got the St Barts Bowl - which mistakenly came to him as a wrap. He liked his meal....hence the two stars instead of one. The place is tiny! During the winter/cold season, there are four two-person tables enclosed and no other seating. I'm sure during the warm season, they have more tables and chairs out, but given the poor tacos I had, I won't be back to experience that! read more
