Great scene bar! 1.00 pbr on Monday nights, but staff is not that friendly and it is too loud to talk, so hit somewhere else if you wanted to chat. Personally I once forgot my card there and when I went back (within 10 min of leaving) they wouldn't let me in to get it (knocked for like 20 minutes; I wasn't going home without my card) then they charged me because by the time they felt like opening the door they had already considered my tab as left open. This place is kind of a hipster hang out lately, but it still does the job. The drinks are made really well by an experienced bar staff. I've seen a few good shows here but if there isn't one the juke box is amazing. We came here last night because on Mondays they have a really great dj. However no one was really dancing and even when they did not super great. Now let's talk the actual bar, great prices on everything. Seriously Surly Wench is a great place for drinks on top of it they have video arcade games so ridiculous and yet so perfect. My husband loves Galaga and we had a blast for a Monday night. On every first Friday of the month they have a burlesque group perform. What can I say.... I LOVE this place. This space has gone through many transformations before becoming the amazing, fun, crazy (in a great way), welcoming location that it is now. I'm that woman who comes in dressed in bright colors on Fineline nights when everyone else is dressed in their finest goth attire. Want to get your 80s dance on and channel your inner Cindy Lauper or George Michael or maybe even Zombie out or join the Goblin King ... well they will have a themed dance night for you. Not to mention the live bands and both burlesque and manlesque. Everyone from the owners, the bartenders, the door staff and bar backs are super friendly and want to make sure that those who visit feel that they are enjoying themselves in a safe environment. I enjoy the surly wench - the prices are pretty good here. It is a nice place but can look intimidating from the outside (aka slightly dark and scary to me) but I always have fun when I get inside. I usually stick with the mixed drinks and they often have live music. The most recent time I was here I came for the burlesque show (best friends idea) and it was my first. Although we were there on an off night (no band), we had a great time at the Surly Wench. We were put off by the fact that the kitchen only takes cash, but the bar was fine with credit - weird. The food was great though and our large group (20ish) found tables easily and got our food fast! Had a blast here on a Monday night! The people watching is great. Drinks specials are ok. The atmosphere is a plus. It's rare to come across a good goth bar. The DJs were good, but the music was a tad difficult to dance to (even though there were plenty of people on the dance floor). All types of people are welcome here. Very non-pretentious. Yelp brought us here while we were looking for a place to drink. This place was pretty cool. We didn't like the cover charge, but the bouncer hooked us up because it was our first time and we were about to turn around. The drinks were great. We killed some air hockey and pool. I have fairly mixed feelings about the Surly Wench. If someone suggests it, I'll go, but it will never be my first choice. Although, I must say that their little bar off to the side is pretty neat and I love it in there! I wish that it had a patio considering that Tucson has more beautiful nights than unpleasant ones. Burlesque nights are always fun with Black Cherry Burlesque-- those ladies can WORK IT. And dancing afterwards is always a blast, but those are the only nights I find myself really having a great time at The Surly Wench. The bartenders are really nice and I love their finesse. If you're into Rockabilly or Psychobilly, I say go for it and meet some fellow -billy-ers, but I prefer some other bars around town. read more

I won't go to this dump again. I was yelled at for stepping "too close" to the bar area. I was nowhere near the cash drawer, the alcohol or anything. I was merely standing there. Surly Wench get over yourselves. I refuse to give you my money ever again. After being a patron for many years I can safely say this place is off my list. I was in Tucson for work & we had the private after party at the Surly Wench. It was great! They had a room closed off specifically for our party, the staff were all wonderful and sweet! We had a few people who weren't a part of our party and the security and staff quickly and quietly asked them to leave because as mentioned before, it was a private party. The food is amazing, the Corndogs are to die for and the drinks were well made, "But if everything was so great, why are you leaving a 2 Star review??" You might be asking. Whelp, the two stars are for the fact that if you forget your card at the bar as I did, now remember, I'm from out of town, about 7 hours away from out of town and stayed about 15-20 minutes away and it was well after 2am when I realized that I had forgotten my credit card at the bar for an open tab.....but back at the 2 star rating: when you panic to retrace your steps and you're back at your hotel and remember that you had left your card at the bar, you scramble to call them and they tell you that they have your card but will charge an additional $10 holding fee to safely hold your card at the bar so that you can come pick it up at 2pm the following day. THAT is why they are getting a 2 star rating. You as a customer are kicking yourself for forgetting your card at the bar, but don't worry, they are safely holding it for you, but adding an additional 10 kicks to yourself. Because that's your only means of payment and can't do a damn thing until 2pm when they open to get your only means of currency. They had to go and ruin a wonderful time at the establishment with the $10 charge of holding your Credit Card. But if you aren't a schmuck like I am, try their food, it's actually quite amazing. read more

Well, they certainly live up to the name. The bartender kept a cynical look written on her face the entire time she, umm, "waited" on me and refused to answer a simple customer service question related to the types of tequila they served - instead, she just pointed dismissively at some bottles that were too far away to read and walked away to serve another customer she deemed more worthy of her time, even though I was being genuinely polite. Sub-par service, all the way. There are better places in Tucson to spend your money. read more
