Overall, we enjoyed our after-show Surreal Creamery outing for something sweet. While the music was bumping a little hard for the few eat-ins, this location is between Penn and Drexel, so the clientele trends younger. The menu was a bit overwhelming in its presentation--it seemed a bit like there were different offerings on the color print-outs taped to the glass than what was on the larger, laminated menu on the wall. The chocolate small cup of soft serve with chocolate syrup and rainbow sprinkles was satisfying. It would've been perfect if hot fudge had been on offer. One oddity on the service end, one in our group tried to order a milkshake, but was told "no milkshakes" that evening, but then we saw a milkshake being picked up. (Perhaps that was the last one of the evening.) One disappointment on the menu end, one in our group prefers peanut-butter based ice cream, but there didn't seem to be one available, even via mix-ins, so he went without. One note on the food, one in our group ordered an Earl Grey cone, but it looked (and tasted) like plain vanilla. read more

This small bad boy came out to be more than $10. Strawberry flavor mix with taro. I could barely distinguish between the two flavors. More to me like a color difference. Very tasty spot! Went on a rainy day so it wasn't incredibly busy, but there was still a good amount of people coming in and out of the store. There's tons of Asian inspired flavors/options (Vietnamese Iced Coffee, Taro, Matcha, etc) which is really cool. Lots of different toppings and flavors too which can get overwhelming, but I love how there's a lot to choose from. You can either make your own or order one of their premade ones! I opted to make my own; Earl Grey Vanilla + Vietnamese Iced Coffee Swirl with a Biscoff cookie, Caramel Sauce, and some Chocolate crisps. It was so flavorful! I really liked how the Vietnamese Iced Coffee was strong and the Earl Grey in the Vanilla was incredibly prominent. They definitely balance each other out too. The kiddy size honestly is kinda big for me but totally worth the price (~$8 with up to 4 free toppings) for the amount you get! The shop was decorated very cute and spooky for halloween too which I appreciated! The service was quick and the cashier gave me great recommendations for toppings for my ice cream. I didn't plan on going here at first, but I would totally recommend checking this place out! They have these cool mason jar sundaes (which kinda look like a lot) but seem tasty as well. The menu boasts boba soft serve combos as well as crazy mixes of soft serve, as well as cake topped with toppings frosting and soft serve in mason jars! Our favorites was the taro boba topped with taro and matcha swirl! The flavors were amazing and the boba was the perfect consistency! The Cookie Monster themed nom nom was perfect for kids (3 kids could share one!) and the chocolate cake mason jar but was 90% soft serve and 10% cake/frosting/fudge/etc. Super friendly and helpful employees. I love this idea! There was a place in NYC that had this float-tea concept that I became obsessed with, but they didn't survive COVID. Eat it fast though if your bringing it out. I live one block over on 38th and it barely made it when my husband brought up back home. It is a bit on the sweet side. The boba was cooked perfectly - has that bouncy chew to it. Some places over/undercooked where the boba either fills your cavities or pulls out your fillings. They are only one size, so arrive hungry and l/or with sweet teeth because one won't been enough. Surreal is gonna be such a hot spot. I mean one scroll through their photos and they have you drooling. We couldn't say no to a trip after grabbing some dinner nearby. Surreal is easy to spot, super close to the University and easily accessible if you're on foot. There's a few stair steps to enter, so it's not accessible for all (btw). Their menu is full of sweet treats from boba to soft serve...to both aka Floateas. They have a mix of Asian flavors like taro and matcha, to more American like Reese's and oreo. We created our own concoction, since we were sharing a "signature mason jar" and couldn't agree on any of the specials. We mixed the taro and matcha soft serve, and chose the teddy grahams, chocolate chip cookie, fruity pebble cereal, and the wafer rolls. Their toppings aren't super generous on top, but I LOVE that they layer some crunchy cereal in between the soft serve when they're building it. The taro flavor is evident, and tasty. Their matcha wasn't strong, so it felt more like a vanilla style matcha vs an actual tea-heavy matcha. It was the perfect size to share between two. They have spoons to eat your dessert with, and you can keep the jar afterwards too! Servers were all friendly and helpful. They have indoor and less outdoor seating. Beware, if they run out of seating outside you'll probably get run out by their next door neighbor since their tables aren't shared. read more

This is a fun spot and I really enjoyed the ice cream and slushi combination. Three of us were able to share the strawberry ice cream with mango slushi and tapioca combination. It is huge! There is a bathroom on the premises that is also very clean. They even have a little area outside that you can sit next to the building. I guess the only complaint I could possibly say is that they don't have one of these in my town L O L. and they only offer it in one size bummer ! The price is a little high, but it's very worth it. I promise. They also serve things like taro and Matcha And they make this amazingly beautiful looking bubble tea. Not really my thing so I didn't try it, but I see a lot of people ordering it. They're not stingy with the ice cream. It's usually heaping on the top above where the rim of the glass is. It's kind of a little hole in the wall. Accidentally stumbled upon their soft opening (Just having the time to write this now) on our walk home from classes and was surprised a new ice cream place opened! I've heard of good things of the other Surreal Creameries and their ice cream floats. Had a good conversation with the owner and staff, who are all very welcoming and eager to learn. The drinks took a little bit to come out, but totally understandable as it was their first day. I was feeling bloated, so I opted for their passion fruit green tea boba - it tasted like a normal boba drink. My friends got a few different ice cream options and they were delicious!
