I have heard nothing but excellent things about Surve. My friend and I have monthly meetups and Surve was on the list a must go to places. A cute place to eat in Sunbury. They have an interesting set-up where you can order at the counter and sit, or go into the other dining room and order with a server. My friend and I ate at the bar with a server. Most of their menu items are from scratch. Meat is cut in-house. I had a burger, it had had good flavor. It was very filling and the prices were respectable. Surve is definitely a must try restaurant in the Sunbury area. read more

A wonderful addition to Sunbury and a stop to add to your must-experience list! I'm not local to Sunbury. When my mom visits me, we take a drive and visit a small town. I always pick a locally owned restaurant to get an early dinner. This trip was to Sunbury and I picked Surve for dinner. The owner greeted us and explained the concept (dining area vs bar area) to us since it was our first time there. We chose the dining area and our lovely waitress, Allie, brought our ribeye steaks (cooked to our preferences, perfection!) to us. We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner! Don't know how we missed this gem on the square ‍. Absolutely love the food, the vibe, the margaritas(just sayin'), and the service. Never, ever have we had a bad experience. Didn't like brussel sprouts as a kid....but I do now!! They are fantastic here. Deviled eggs (if that's your jam) are amazing! All entrees are amazing. Did I mention the hand shaker margarita....I think I did . Sometimes there's a wait but it's worth it. You have option of ordering cafeteria style (might get seated quicker) or being served either at the bar or the few 4-seater high tops. Wish it was a little bigger, but then it would have a different vibe. Don't go changin'. New favorite eats in the Galena/Sunbury area....for sure. read more

My husband and I met another couple at Surve last Saturday night totally impromptu. This establishment is owned by a girlfriend's nephew so naturally, I was very curious. Vodka Lemonade. Yes, please and thank you to the tune of 3. :) The apps are great and the food was also good. I would call it simple options but with a LOT of taste. So please go into it with a more sophisticated view of what looks like simple options with a lot of power to their punch. Love local business owners. So nice to get away from franchise and chain options. We have those that are fantastic, however, local owners very much speak to my heart. We have been meaning to try this for a bit and finally made it in last night. It was a Saturday, moderate crowd for a cold rainy day. We chose to go Full Service. It had a 5-10 minute wait, just enough time to order and enjoy a round a drinks. I chose the house made Margarita. It was made perfectly, not too sour, just the right amount of salt. I recommend those. Then we got seated at the bar. The staff was very friendly and talked us through a few of the menu items because I was having trouble deciding. I finally went with the Fish Tacos with hard shell corn tortillas. My guest chose Chicken Tenders, Mac & Cheese, and French Fries (he called it his kid's meal). For me the fish was cooked perfectly. They were pretty large tacos and were stuffed with goodness. Things like avocado, cabbage slaw, a really good sauce on top, but it was missing a kicker. If it was served with a side of spicy salsa, or had just a touch of Cajun seasoning it would have really kicked it up a notch for me. The chicken tender were juicy and tender. The Mac and cheese was good and the fries were delicious! I really enjoyed the atmosphere, the food, and the service. I will definitely return to try that Italian Sausage! read more

This place is pretty cool. It's like a pleasant surprise in the area that it is located in. It's almost as though you wouldn't expect for such a place to exist where it is currently located. I was expected a greasy dive spot rather than the sterile, well put together immaculate environment that I found myself in. I drove all the way from Gahanna, Ohio just to check this place out. I must say that it did not disappoint. I got the burger and fries and finished it with a chocolate chip cookie. Let me just say that I am a big burger and pizza person. So I had to try the burger. I am super glad that I did. I typically get my burgers well done. As most of you know it's hard to make a juicy burger when you get it well done but they managed to make this magical feat come true. Aside from the juiciness of it. The grade of beef was top notch and you could taste the freshness of it. It was also seasoned quite well. This spot goes on my list for one of the places to get a great burger. The fries didn't disappoint either. They call them punch fries but they are reminiscent to me of fresh cut fries. The cookie was great too. Get it warmed up though. The staff here is very accommodating and pleasant. They definitely aim to please here and I hope this continues during the duration of their restaurant run. read more

First, I was so super excited to have a mom and pop restaurant open up closer to home with a variety of items on their menu. The first time we came here, both me and my spouse ordered a hamburger. It was OK, I guess I was expecting more, but there was nothing "special about it." Simply a hamburger and fries. Our little had mac and cheese, but it look like it had been sitting there awhile (clumpy, not creamy). We decided to give SURVE another shot, this time I ordered the veggie pasta (sans zucchini noodles) and my hubby ordered the cajun chicken sandwich. While my meal looked great, it lacked overall flavor. It was also apparent that someone was really heavy-handed with the dried rosemary/thyme. The rule of thumb when using dried spices/herbs is less is more, it's more a concentrated flavor. There was so much spice that it overpowered the rest of the dish. Also, the dish was lacking some acidity and some nuttiness, which could have been accomplished by adding a light layer of parmasaen cheese and a balsamic reduction to the top of the pasta. I had so much leftover, it will go to waste, because the herbs overpower the rest of the dish. My husband said his chicken sandwich was OK, not great, not awful. I'm hoping flavors and overall dishes get better, but I think we'll wait on visiting here again. I really wanted to like it. read more

I'm so excited to write Surve's first review! Surve is a quaint little place located in the town square of Sunbury, offering a menu that is made fresh daily--no microwaves, no freezers! It is exactly the kind of place that this town needed, and appears to be hitting it off with a bang. The set up is kind of like Northstar Cafe, where you place your order with the cashier and then find a table. They do have a full service area at the counter/bar, which is where we sat. Brittany was our bartender/server and she was very friendly and makes a delicious Bloody Mary. They have a variety of craft beer in cans, several kinds of spirits and a good selection of wine. There are a couple TV screens at the bar to catch your favorite sporting event. The menu is small, but there is a variety of selections from steak to fish tacos. My friend ordered the salmon entree and I got the All American Burger. My burger was delicious, but the bun got soggy quickly. Other than that, I have no complaints! The food is great quality, prices are very reasonable, service was very friendly and we had a nice chat with the owner's wife. This was a fun stop today 8/7 and I was thankful to see most items could be made GF. Inside is a white, clean feeling environment. Very hip and open. It didn't seem too busy, however, no one was at the front desk to take our order for a little bit even though you could see there were plenty of employees around. Our daughter had the mac and cheese and choose french fries as her side. My partner had the fish tacos and I ordered the chicken salad and brussels sprouts as my side. We also ordered the deviled eggs. Our daughter ate a few bites of the mac and cheese and most of the fries. So that is a win as a parent. My partner's fish tacos he said were good but they had an extra fishy smell so for some this might be a pass. The chicken salad was good but sort of boring. Needed a crunch like grapes, celery...you get the idea. Brussels sprouts were meh. Many were too hard to enjoy. Deviled eggs we would not order again. I'd describe them as fresh/herby tasting. I like a mustard taste. But, I love to order deviled eggs whenever they are on the menu so at least I can stay we tried them. If we were in the area we would try this place again due to the number of GF items. I will make a note that my daughter and I used the bathroom and let them (a young adult with a long blonde ponytail) know that it was not flushing and that the one sink wasn't draining at all. We did have to interrupt her from her phone and she didn't actually seem too interested in this. My daughter who is six realized this could be a problem and kept pointing out that she didn't move to tell anyone for a bit of time. After we received our meal, no one ever checked on us or took our appetizer plate away. So I'd say between the wait at the front to take our order, the gal on her phone and this I'd say service is a big zero. Bringing my overall score to a two. *Also, worth noting for those who are interested, employees do not wear masks. read more

Really delicious food! We were a little tripped out with the order here sit in this room business, but now we know. I had the roasted veggie pasta and added chicken. The veggies were seasoned perfectly, cavatappi prepared properly and the grilled chicken was tender, juicy and delicious. My husband enjoyed his burger and the fresh punched fries. Our daughter had the kids salmon with Mac n cheese and our son had the chicken tenders and fries. We also placed a take out order of fish tacos for our neighbor and she said they were delicious! Surve was great! They have a full service and self serve side of the resturant so you choose how much you want to be involved in your dining experience. They have a great looking bar with a variety of beers. I had the chicken tenders which were some.of the most tender and moist chicken tenders I've ever had. Would recommend. The brussel sprouts were well seasoned but on the crunchier side. I like them really toasted more then raw like they were. The fries were also good. Salamon looked good. They also have buffalo chicken sliders which was like chicken dip on slider buns. If you like chciken dip, get them! read more

Overall, a nice place in an unexpected location. We stumbled upon Surve while on a bikepacking trip out of Columbus. We weren't expecting many food options in this direction outside of Columbus, so we were quite pleased to see something new. Friendly, clean atmosphere, a decent looking menu, and a good beer selection. They claim to make everything fresh to order. I got the buffalo sliders, which weren't that bad, but also not great. They had some kind of buffalo/cheese/cream sauce on them. It was a bit much, but also lacked the other buffalo ingredients that could have made it yummy, like celery and blue cheese. My wife got the fish tacos and really enjoyed them. Service was pleasant overall, but got uncomfortable when we asked how the restaurant got its name. The response was "it has to do with serving God." My wife and I weren't sure how to respond. It was awkward. It's a unique concept, but seemingly difficult to understand as a restaurant. It's not the reason for the 4 star review - the food is. But I feel it's necessary to mention for those who feel that it might matter to them. Nice drink selection from the bar with local beers along with the normal options. Although I had a beer, lots of folks were enjoying signature cocktails. Food was fresh, hot and good.
