I met with another surgeon who told me that I would have to have expanders and implants to supplement my DIEP flap surgery because I didn't have enough tissue in my stomach to rebuild my breasts (which are a B cup). Due to infections during treatment and having to have my chest port removed I didn't want to put any foreign objects in my body. A former co-worker was a patient of Dr Srinivasa's and she came highly recommended. We did a virtual consult and she was confident that she could do the flap surgery without expanders or implants, she's not a fan of expanders and I understand why. When she told me she didn't believe in putting someone through something that wasn't necessary I knew she was it. The first surgeon also told me they were going to take my nipple and lymph nodes as well as skin around my nipple because they operate based upon what the cancer was when it started. Dr Srinivasa and her team did a nipple delay surgery two weeks before the mastectomy and DIEP flap to check for cancer in those areas BEFORE removing them unnecessarily. I'm about 3 months post surgery and I couldn't be happier about what Dr Srinivasa and her team have done to help me feel as whole as possible after this. She saved my nipples and did a double mastectomy and DIEP flap all in one surgery. This woman is amazing!

I had virtually no pain after surgery and only needed regular Tylenol for the first three days. Since I'm very sensitive to medications, that was a huge plus for me. Dr. Hirsch performed a total capsulectomy, which was exactly what I was hoping for. During the nine days after surgery, it was very easy to reach the office by phone or email whenever I had questions, and they were always responsive and helpful. My biggest fear about this surgery was having the drains, but even having them removed was completely painless. The surgery center where the procedure was performed was also outstanding. After four years of having implants what I once thought would make me feel great about myself only made me feel horrible physically. I spent months of going back and forth on choosing to keep them or explant I finally did it. While I enjoyed the time having implants, I do not regret my decision to remove them. Once I arrived home from surgery I immediately knew I was going to be so satisfied with my results. I felt a great sense of relief, not only physical but emotional as well. It has been over seven months since my surgery, and not a day has gone by without stress, regret, and sadness about the outcome. What I hoped would increase my confidence has instead had the opposite effect, significantly affecting how I feel about my body. Before surgery, I was very clear that I wanted a small, natural-looking BBL. Unfortunately, the result I received was not consistent with the aesthetic I had hoped for. The outcome appears much boxier and larger than what I had envisioned and discussed during my consultations. (I am willing to share photos documenting my experience.) I began expressing concerns about the shape almost immediately after surgery and was repeatedly reassured that I needed more time to heal, that swelling needed to resolve, and that the fat would eventually "settle." I trusted the process and waited patiently. However, after more than seven months, the concerns I raised from the beginning remain. I also experienced issues with the contour of my thighs that I brought up during follow-up appointments. I followed the recommendations I was given, including compression, multiple lymphatic massages, and foam placement, but I did not see meaningful improvement. What has been most difficult for me is not only the outcome itself, but the feeling that my concerns were never truly addressed. I left multiple appointments hoping for reassurance or solutions and instead felt that I was continually being told to wait longer. As time passed and the results remained unchanged, that became increasingly heartbreaking. Since my surgery, I have consulted with twelve board-certified plastic surgeons to better understand my options moving forward. One thing I learned is that every surgeon has a different aesthetic style and approach, and not every surgeon is the right fit for every patient's anatomy or goals. Looking back, I wish I had spent more time researching different surgical styles and seeking additional opinions before making my decision.
