What's better on a snowy day than hot miso soup? Totally had a craving today and decided to stop here for lunch. Ordered the Sushi Bento Box that came with miso. I have to say this was the best miso soup I had had in AGES! So flavorful and delicious. The bento cane with salad topped in a tasty Asian ginger dressing, 4 freshly seared pork goyzas, 4 pieces of fresh sushi, and 8 of the best California roll pieces (and I'm not big on California rolls). The Restaurant itself is small and humble with a small sushi bar - but don't let that fool you! The quantity and quality this little joint puts out is top notch! Nigiri to full sushi boats, there's no problem accommodating. It's also sushi done right. Yellowtail rolls prepared with fresh jalapeño and Yuzo sauce the correct dishes. Being that sushi is my lifeline to life, there's no doubt these chefs are experienced, craft full, and care about their art. I just drove 40 minutes across town to get dinner from Sushi Aji. I used to live much closer and went there often. I move across town, but still go there from time-to-time, because I like their spider rolls (I've had MANY of them, over the years). I picked up my spider roll, drove home, and opened the bag. There was my spider roll, but no wasabe. It's just not the same without the wasabe, but I'm not going to waste ANOTHER 80 minutes to go back and get some from them. So I threw the spider roll away and had a bologna sandwich for dinner. VERY disappointed in their lack of attention to detail. Won't make the same mistake again. read more

Three times now, we have ordered takeout and it has been double (or longer) than the wait time stated upon calling in the order. They did nothing to fix the situation except continue to state "working on it" ... The sushi quality is fine for being in Arvada, but if you have any time constraints whatsoever, AVOID. Sushi was really good. If service had been up to par it would've received more stars. Also, we came for the happy hour. Apparently they decided not to do happy hour anymore but failed to take the menu off the website. A little apology and maybe hooking up a free sake would've gotten a 5 star review but not much effort was made into making us happy. A little update 3/9/2018: When ordering anything with crab, ask if it's real crab. They don't tell you on the menu when it's imitation. Otherwise, the sushi is excellent and the all Japanese staff are attentive, but not intrusive. The decor is a tasteful modern with beautiful, soft lighting and exotic, sculpture-like hanging lamps that look like graceful jellyfish floating above you. The music they pipe in is also pleasant and modern, filling out the experience like a cherry on top. We have never left with a complaint other than the imitation crab issue. It's a pearl tucked quietly away in a little, nondescript shopping strip. It almost feels as if you step through the door into a secret getaway. read more

The only go-to Sushi place in West Arvada serves up excellent sushi. I've had friends that are "sushi-snobs" visit from out of town on several occasions tell us that this is their favorite sushi they've ever had. my wife and I went to this restaurant Tuesday, August 13 ordered our normal two rolls sushi sashimi the last time we were there. We thought that the sushi was not fresh but from frozen so we figured we try it again. Everything went well but when we got our bill, they charged us for scallops that we did not get. We ordered them, but did not receive them. They wanted to argue with us and tell us that they gave it to us and they were going to check their cameras, I've been eating scallops for 20 years and numerous sushi restaurants all over the world and I've never ever in my lifetime scene where they wanna argue with you to tell you that they serve something that you did not receive this is not the first time that I've had this problem at sushi restaurants but I've never had them argue with us regarding our bill. Our bill was $149 for two people with one beer and sake. I don't think it's worth the money that they charge and being that the manager and the waitress both wanted to argue with us , I would never go back to this place if I was on my deathbed read more

Typically this is my favorite sushi spot... just picked up an order, got two sweet potato rolls, I'm pregnant so I can't have raw fish so this has been my go to... typically it's super crunchy and the presentation is great.. this time I can not say the same, the entire middle was soggy and not even slightly crispy and it just looks like it was made very half a**. They told me twenty minutes and I was there in exactly that amount of time so there was absolutely no reason it should've been soggy and not crispy like it has been every other time I've ordered. Reviews steered me wrong this time. Stopped in for a Sunday brunch. The service was quite slow, I think they were a bit understaffed. Started with the miso soup and chicken gyoza. The miso was flavorless and the gyoza were pretty standard. Ordered the Phoenix, Volcano, and Rocky Mountain rolls. All were just ok. One thing that I really disliked was the fake crabmeat that they were topped with. A restaurant should specify if it is the processed fake crabmeat in my opinion. I can't recommend Sushi Aji, they are the only sushi restaurant in the area so they have a captive audience. read more

I tried a few things and it seemed good, but my pallet isn't really refined to the sophistication of sushi. It wasn't bad but like every other California role and smoked salmon with cream cheese I wasn't excited or convinced that this place was something special. However, friends of ours came into town and so we chose this place for a late night dinner. They had just spent 4 years in Japan and their sushi knowledge was convincing me of branching out. We got so much sushi which came out on thier large sushi boat and beautifully presented. I really enjoyed myself and in experimenting with more than the Americanized California Roll I was pleasantly surprised and even found a favorite sushi roll I look forward to having. I like that this place offers a wide variety of vegetarian options so you can try the different styles if the fish option frightens you. However they also have some great sea food options that are so subtle that you can get hooked amd not even know. I like this place and the experience is always good. This place is really good! The yellowtail jalapeño appetizer is delicious. We got the Sashimi lunch plate one day and the next day we got the Sashimi dinner plate and the dinner has more fish. Obviously because it's dinner. The fish was very fresh and the service was great. Next time I am this way I will eat there again. The parking lot entrance is crazy so turn in by the mcDonalds. Was excited by the great reviews and gave Sushi Aji a try!!! Checked in at 6:30... was seated at 7:15. Began to notice that Tables that were seated when I checked in had not received their food yet. We watched Grub Hub and Uber Eats drivers impatiently waiting for to go orders. It was a mess. We got our food - which was OK - an hour and 15 minutes after our order was taken. We watched at least 20 to go orders leave before we got our dinner. The sushi sashimi looked like a 10 year sliced it. Presentation was not artistic or exciting at all... nothing like the fun pictures on the website. I feel for these guys in the "pandemic" ... but they might need to consider just doing to go orders.
