Ok, this place is absolutely incredible. We spied this place from Sheridan Blvd heading home from a gun safety class across the street. We are sure glad we saw it and opted to stop for lunch. We were met by two of the nicest people you've ever want to meet. They welcomed us in like we were family. We sat wherever we wanted to and had drinks and menus in our hands within a minute. We ordered shrimp wanton soup to start and I ordered shrimp veggie udon noodles for my main course. I ordered it extra spicy and the chef did not disappoint. It was exceptionally well prepared. The personalized and friendly service is simply top shelf in this restaurant. Its interior and decor is simple, clean and tasteful. Brian, the owner I believe, sat and chatted with us about his home country, Laos, and other travels for nearly an hour. He really made an already exceptional meal, even better. I went to Sushi Yaya on a whim. I came in with an open mind and absolutely regret it. The waitress was uneducated on the menu, constantly on her cell phone and the food. Udon and shrimp came out cold. Miso soup was horrible and edamame was noticeably microwaved as it was chewy. I will say the fish was fresh in the sushi but preparation and presentation was at best sub par. Atmosphere was horrible. Will not be goin go back. EVER read more

Very clean restaurant and has a lot of seating to choose from with a lot of parking as well outside the place too so that's convenient. 3/5 cause the boba was not great and the flavoring was all off, definitely won't be buying it again here and it's just pretty watery and not great overall tbh, the boba was not too great either just tasted like it was pre-bought or something. Our sushi was good though and the prices were fair, wasn't the most amazing sushi restaurant we've been to, and have had a lot better hence the 3/5 as well. Customer service was pretty good though but just was more slow to get to us despite only us and another couple being in here. Pretty sure this place is going out of business. Last few times we went the service sucked and the food was meh. Came over a few days ago. Dude hadn't even prepped the restaurant yet. The place is dirty. There are rips in the furniture. Asked for an item on the menu and he didn't even know what I was taking about. I had to show him and explain the menu. Guy was on his phone texting and didn't really care we were there. We came at open and no one else came in. We were there an hour and 20 minutes!!! Like seriously it's a Wednesday and you're dead slow. Pick it up. WTF I had to keep going up to the counter to remind him of OTHER people who needed things. Rice is garbage. Came here with my family on a Tuesday night - we were the only people in the restaurant! Between my family we ordered probably 7 rolls. It's kind of neat, they give you a dry erase marker and a menu that you check off what items off you'd like to order and then hand that to the waitress. Kind of impersonal, but I did kind of like it. The sushi was good! They ran out of tuna, so we couldn't get anything with tuna in it. But overall, the rolls were good and decently priced. Go for the regular menu items, not for the sushi. The chicken teriyaki was exactly as expected. Good size portion and fairly priced. The nigiri and rolls we ordered were kind of lackluster and the fish wasn't exactly the freshest. Our goal is to try every sushi restaurant in Denver and this was just another one on our list. We probably won't be back because they really don't focus on the sushi. It's more of a Chinese/Vietnamese café style restaurant with sushi as an added bonus. I live right by Sushi Yaya and tried it once a couple years ago and was not satisfied. Well last evening I made a pickup order and it was awful. I ordered one of their specialty rolls and it was pathetic. The picture shows the whole upper out side covered in seared tuna but when I got it , there was a tiny square of tuna on top. Not to mention the roll and all 4 rolls would not hold together. Every single role that I picked up with my chopsticks fell apart. Also, the fish was not cut thoroughly through the roll. So every piece that I picked up was connected to the next piece by a slight piece of fish. The rolls were not good, poorly rolled and extremely small pieces of sushi. Just ordered 3 rolls from this place and the woman didn't get order correctly. I specially ordered 2 fried rolls with cream cheese avocado and salmon and she just said yeah yeah ok and gave me 2 fried rolls with just cucumber and avocado. Due to the COVID 19 it's only take out so i call her to tell her that she got the order wrong and she basically just disagreed with me telling me if I want to buy another roll I can instead of switching the rolls that she got wrong in the first place. I never not felt satisfied (I've had the sushi 4 different times) But I appreciated the efficiency and timeliness most of all, and I didn't have to worry about when I'd get my food during a time when wait times at other places were like HOURS (the start of the pandemic anyone?) Very recently, I got the poke bowl with yellowtail! It was enough food for two meals, and they were very gracious. Love the seaweed salad! Quality and flavorful. The rice was a good texture. Also, as a child of refugees, I gotta say...anyone that gets easily frustrated with the family that runs this restaurant on their review probably needs to learn how to have more patience when there can be a language barrier. People who speak more than one language are smarter than you. Sushi was not too bad or god along with service was okay. Starting with the sushi the only thing I like was the California roll and their specialty spicy salmon roll. I also had their miso and house salad and I was a little bother that the miso had a lot of green onions. Just be aware. I really did not like the sushi rice because it was very loose and is falling apart. They also didn't give me enough wasabi and ginger but you can always ask for more. There was not much of a sushi restaurant atmosphere. 3. We ordered 1 appetizer and 3 rolls because we were really hungry that day. The spring roll was extremely loose with the wrapping which them means as we eat the piece just fall out from the clear wrap. typically Spring rolls are tightly wrapped to keep the shrimp and vegetables in place for a clean experience. The 3 rolls were good but don't expect an average sized roll, they are quite small. But nonetheless, the rolls were tasty. 4. Customer service could have been better - area that could use improvements; water refills, asking if everything was okay at check out and a warm welcome. For such a tiny place I was really pleased with the quality and flavor of the sushi here. The atmosphere is really nice and not crowded. The guys working are friendly. The menu has a decent variety of rolls to try, as well as all the staple sashimi and nigiri options. I tried the "Winter" and "Play Boy" rolls. I went to Sushi Yaya last week. I was not impressed. The spicy tuna rolls seemed old. Smelled extremely fishy. If you love eating sushi the fishy smell should not be that over-powering. I wouldn't waste my time or money. Pocket your money and go to Hapa's. They spent more money on the cashier technology than on appealing decor on the restaurant they so adore. Seating is very limited. My boyfriends tuna teriyaki was completed microwaved and everything is served in plastic containers as if you were only ordering for take-out not dine-in. First off, when we walked in, we were the only customers. Chalked it up to the beginning of dinner. The chef who helped us was very nice. Ordered miso soup and pork egg roles, plum sake and 4 rolls. Unfortunately i can not eat avocado I wrote it clear and bold at the top of the menu. The chef verbally confirmed with us that all avocado will be on the side. And I clearly wrote it was an allergy. He understood. We eat sushi all the time. It's never a big deal. Ever. The sake was good. He said it was sweet but it was so sweet. Almost like they put a cup of sugar in with it. We got our appetizers. The miso soup was clear. There was maybe 7 small pieces of tofu and 3 leaves of seaweed. I thought well maybe it's something new. No. Nothing new. It was watered down soup with no flavor. The egg roles seemed fresh. Really hot. But just okay. No flavor. Then here's comes our sushi. She didn't even finish setting it down before my husband said, there is avocado in every single role. Mind you, the chef that took our order. Verbally confirmed that all avocado will be on the side. Because of an allergy. Was the same man who made our rolls. She took it back. She showed the chef our menu sheet that was still right in front of him and pointed out the info he was already given. And he started snapping at her, "I know". So he knew I had an allergy and still put it in my food. Are you kidding me. The waitress puts up with a lot it seems. She was very reserved but kind. The atmosphere was cute. Different. I almost feel like they have forked out so much money on decor and now have to cut costs in quality.
