The flavors of every single thing on the plate were delicious. The spicy pork was well seasoned, the sides tasted fresh and the marinated radish on the side was a delicious addition as well. I repeatedly said as I ate "this is so satisfying" lol. It felt perfectly balanced, great spices and seasoning, great portion, overall great taste. They were accommodating as well and allowed for the japchae to be made with chicken instead of beef. Food came out nice and hot after 10-15 minutes. This restaurant is very comforting to me, the self seating reminds me of Asia style cafeterias and the metal cups and bowls are very Korean. The staff are no frills and the food comes out quick and delicious. I want to highlight their cold noodles/naengmyeon because not many restaurants offer it and NYKBBQ does it well. Their Duk Mandu Guk is so so good, Soondubu is tasty (could use a bit more tofu), and their Kalbi Tang is a little too dark and roasty for me but I really love this spot. This one worked out better than I expected, my wife wanted to try this one. It was recommended by a young lady in the eyeglass shop. NY's loss is Westfield's gain! This is my first time swinging by despite knowing about them for years. Actually, I'm a bit surprised there aren't more Korean restaurants in the area & after craving for some lately I decided to head on down. As you can see by my review it was a damn good choice. I went with the classic Bulgogi, kimbop, & kalbichim (braised short rib) for pick up as I chilled at home binging Japanese pro-wrestling. This couldn't have been a better choice & I wished I dined in. The space is quaint & clean & the staff appeared to be friendly enough. I'm not the best food reviewer as far as details about the food but the quantities were more than enough, the taste was on point with other great Korean BBQ restaurants I've been too, & the location is perfect for me. Food was amazing. The rice cake stew had a lot of flavor with a decent portion size, slightly spicy but also sweet at the same time. The bulgogi was also really good, slightly small portion size but regardless it was really good. The Soft Tofu stew was incredible, it was nice and hot and the tofu just fell apart in your mouth, on top of everything else in the stew made it even better ! The service was quick, we got our food within 10 minutes. The place it self so nice and cute with a small snack collection towards the back as well. Overall great experience. I've visited NY Korean BBQ on and off since my original review in 2018, and it falls under the category of businesses that I am very glad to see survived the COVID pandemic lockdowns of the last couple of years. This is partly because it is a family owned business and I think it is important to support such businesses, especially when they make such amazing and comforting food! The restaurant has been renovated a bit since my last review. The lighting is now much brighter and against one wall is a gigantic clock. As always, the place is clean and welcoming, with enough seating for at least 20 people (if not more). There are restrooms in the back as well. On my recent visit I had a few of my favorite dishes. I called ahead on a Thursday night and it took about a half hour for the dishes to be read. Perfect if you're driving in from several towns away. Here's what I had: KIMBOP: Assorted Veggies, Avocado, Crab Meat, Bulgoki, And White Rice All Rolled Into Seaweed One of my favorite dishes. The texture is wonderful, rice is always perfectly cooked and the flavors of the various ingredients inside has a wonderfully savory flavor balanced with freshness thanks to the vegetables. SCALLION PANCAKE Chewy with a bit of crisp and wonderful savory flavors, the scallion pancake is a beautifully simple dish that is a beautiful example of comfort food. SPICY SWEET CHILI CHICKEN WINGS The wings here are insane. There's really no other word for it. Okay, maybe there are: delicious, crispy, sweet, savory and rich. These are among my absolute favorite chicken wings and I get them every time I come here. NY Korean BBQ is a gem in Westfield and I am very happy to see it running strong. The ice cold noodles were delicious with a tang from the added vinegar and spice from hot mustard. The buckwheat noodles are chewy and the broth is refreshing. My wife got the bulgogi noodles in a clay pot, which was also good. My oldest got the bibimbop and the youngest got the kimbap. All were good. It's hard to find kimbap at a restaurant; I would think that they're mostly in grocery stores. The restaurant is bright and airy, and had plenty of seating. The owners were nice. They had non-Korean options for picky eaters. The bobas in their bubble tea were not that soft and tasted undercooked. Prices are decent. We'll come back to check out other dishes. Recently grabbed takeout from here and was really impressed! The place is smallish but does have some tables if you want to eat in. I called the order in and they told us about 30 minutes.... and it was about 30 minutes until the order was ready. i got the bibimbap for $10.99 and was really impressed w/the flavor and how authentic it tasted! The beef was well seasoned as were the veggies. The dish was even still hot when I got it home. My husband got the bulgogi which was also a flavorful dish. The bulgogi came with 2 dumplings and a small side salad for $15.99 which was alot of food. But what I craved today post Thanksgiving gluttony is Soonduburi (Tofu soup) where really I haven't ever enjoyed outside of NYC's Koreatown or the Edgewater, NJ vicinity. So I absolutely jumped on trying this here. Let's say my newly adopted Korean mom (she just doesn't know it yet) was kind of happy to see not only that I wanted the seafood tofu soup, but I got greedy and ordered the Korean Short Ribs (Kalbi) too. And what better than to pair that with Korean Green tea! I even got some kimchee sides, a salad, and the per usual rice. All was delicious and had packed up my leftover Kalbi + for another meal! What a comfort food treat to a grey day post holiday day. I will return as winter approaches us as Korean tofu soup is medicine for the soul! I was ready to come home and write a one star review expecting the food to be as disappointing as the customer service. Ordering the food was easy but had to wait an hour to pick up. When I got there, the person handling the phone and orders told me the food wasn't even made yet. So I left...He called me back and apologized for the mix up and that the food was actually ready. Going back the second time, part of my order was not made yet. If I rated this place solely on professionalism and hospitality, it would be zero stars. However.... The food was pretty good. I ordered the Kimchi stew with beef and buffalo wrap. They did not cheap out on the meat. The tofu in the soup was perfect. The wrap was good too. Family run business. They have Korean food right in town so you don't need to go to Edison or Fort Lee. Kimpap is great to order to take with you on the go. The stews are delicious and hot. (I hate cold soup.) The shorts ribs are delicious. They also have bubble tea and you can buy and other Korean stacks there too! This week we had the watermelon bubble tea, Doenjang Jjigae (Korean Soybean Paste Stew), pork dumplings, and udon. We bought radish kimchi from the back fridge too. Have to give another shoutout to this mom & pop Korean restaurant in Westfield. If you are in a hurry, be paitient, or call ahead, because it's just the two of them doing it all. They cook their food with love, and it takes a little time. I love the kimbop roll. They raised their prices about 50¢ per dish since I was here last. The kimbop roll is now $10.50. Check out the photo, 24 pcs. for $10.50. I picked up two of these for a party recently, and brought along a bottle of soy sauce. The sweet lady disappears into the kitchen in the back to make it, while her husband, in chef's whites, man's the big gas stove up front. He will greet you with "Hello, sir" if he recognizes you. I hate writing bad reviews but maybe the owner will read this and possibly take some of my general advice. I am not a jackass yelper who pretends to be a restauranteur but some easy changes could help this business out a lot. I wish them success. To be honest the food and price here were not good - the price was not bad compared to other overpriced east coast Korean restaurants but not good at all considering the poor food quality. It is entirely possible the dishes we ordered were not their strong suit and maybe they cook great kalbi and make great sandwiches. The family working here were very hospitable and just seem like good people from my impression. Very friendly service. Nice, clean, casual ambiance with a TV on playing Korean stuff. We had the udon noodles in spicy soup with dumplings and one egg inside. The taste was that of an instant ramen pack and the cost was around $10. 4/10. My recommendation to the owner would be to consider using a stock or broth as the soup base, whether it be Korean anchovies, unami, chicken or beef stock. Don't totally rely on instant ramen pack flavoring. The spicy barbeque chicken dish was not spicy at all and the taste was not the best though the chicken was tender. It seemed like a very americanized dish. Portion size was pretty good though. 6/10. My recommendation would be to serve this dish in a more authentic manner (pepper paste, veggies, etc) and perhaps ask the customer for level of spiciness they desire. The mango bubble tea we ordered was inedible. It was pure sugar water drowning out what little mango taste it had. We didn't want to complain but the lady working there saw we didn't drink it and were about to throw it away and she asked what was wrong. We explained it was too sweet and lacked flavor. She graciously offered to make us another one. She explained that they make the bubble teas here with a powder and mix in the blender. They told us they routinely add a lot of sweet syrup to the mix after the blender because the American customers like it very sweet. The taro bubble tea they then made for us was much better after they held off on drowning the drink with syrup. My advice would be to ask the customer how sweet they like their bubble tea like they do at Paris Baguette before they prepare it. Total cost of the meal after tax was about $26 but they gave us a $2 dollar discount from a menu coupon. read more
