We came on a weekday evening with reservation and needless to say, the restaurant was pretty empty when we came and no reservation was needed. This is a mom and pop shop and while I came across reviews regarding bad service, our young male server was quite charismatic. He was quirky and it was refreshing. We didn't find him very helpful in terms of answering our questions or giving recommendations, but he made the effort to find out answers to our questions. Our food came out quite slow, but this is understandable given that only two people were working in the kitchen and there were takeout orders to fulfill. We ordered the beef carpaccio, assorted sashimi, deluxe nigiri, and soft shell crab roll. The beef carpaccio was delicious. It was soft and buttery and was so refreshing from the acid of the ponzu. The assorted sashimi had a good variety. My bf ordered this so I can't comment on the taste. He mentioned that it tasted okay though some were a bit fishy. The deluxe nigiri was good value if you want to try a bit of everything. I really liked the scallop nigiri and enjoyed that they were traditionally prepared - one bite with a touch of wasabi inside. The blue crab roll tasted like your typical dynamite roll, but made with soft shell crab instead. I would've preferred the crab to be a bit crispier, but other than that, that was a solid dish. Overall, this is a hidden little family joint serving up some traditional Japanese dishes. Our 4 dishes and 2 green teas came to around $120, which isn't overly expensive considering the food ordered though it isn't necessarily affordable on a day-to-day basis.

Overall, the food is delicious and authentic but small in proportion. Tried this place out since it's moved to a new location. The setting is a lot nicer than it once was. We went on a Thursday evening. There was only 1 waitress for a full house so it was hard to get drinks. It died down by about 8pm so it was fine after that. We always try the chopped scallop and bc rolls when we go places and we really liked theirs! The BC rolls had a subtle but good charred flavour albeit the pieces were small (to be technical, 6 pieces, each about 1.5cm in radius and less than 1cm in thickness). The chopped scallop was amazing. Very fresh, clean tasting and I couldn't stop eating them (this was more average sized. A bit smaller than the BC roller in radius but about an inch thick). For rolls in the tri cities area, they were more expensive and on the smaller side. We also ordered the nabeyaki udon hot pot in regular sized. It came with a lot of vegetables and the udon as toothy (wish there was more) and 2 tempura prawns on the side. I enjoyed this but will probably try something else next time.

It's either tough Yelpers or food connossieurs like myself; I can honestly give a hoot about attitude, I'm just here for the food, not to make friends lol Ordered their Cali & House Roll, true winners, very fresh & deleesh. Accept debit/credit. Open layout, & sushi bar seating. easily will repeat.

Shyun is family runned Japanese restaurant that serves a lot of your traditional Japanese sashimi, sushi, rice and noodle dishes. You'll also find a few unique dishes amongst its menu. A few of the unique dishes we tried and liked was the isobe-age (seaweed wrapped tuna tempura in a dashi broth) and unagi stone grill (unagi rice set that come with a kettle of broth that you pour into the left over crispy rice in the stone pot). The unagi stone grill was really good but i found the portion on the smaller side. We also had the salmon oishi and shyun roll which both quite comparable to your usually Japanese restaurants. Price is decent and similar to what you expect at your regular sushi joints. The restaurant is a bit quite when we went - possibly because of its location, but the service is friendly and they check up on you regularly to make sure you are enjoying your meal. I would come back for the unagi stone grill!

My coworker recommended me this place and took us an hour to come here. We got lost on the way here Totally worth it. So good and we are heading to Japan in 3 weeks but will be back here again before we go. Love this place

    Deluxe assorted sushi. Amazing.

Outstanding salmon, tuna, shrimp and hamachi (yellowtail) sashimi. Mayo shrimp is yummy. Chef and hosts are Japanese and super friendly. They were actually closed post lunch hour rush, but they welcomed us in for a late lunch anyways.

So we ordered from their "favourite menu" B & D as they sounded quite delicious...I drove out to pick it up and brought it home to eat. Upon the first few pieces....my husband said "umm the rice is raw". I couldn't believe it! I said no way...they can't screw up rice... but sure enough, they did. It was bits of raw rice - mixed into cooked rice?!? I don't know but I called them back to inform them. They were apologetic and offered to give us a credit for "next time" but I definitely didn't want the credit since we were from out of town and likely weren't going to try them again. They said if I was willing to drive back, they'd be willing to remake it. Of course I was...so back and forth...brought it back... sure enough, not as bad but still not well executed rice. Sigh. The flavours were definitely good, they used gochujang sauce for their spicy rolls which was interesting. When they say spicy, they weren't joking... even my husband who enjoys spice thought it was on the hotter end. We especially liked the BC roll!

The ambiance is casual and the restaurant is very beautiful as well.

An absolute A+ to Chef Keith and Chika for their mastery of perfecting a great omakase experience in the tricities. They are reservations only (and for a good reason!) and this can be done on their new online portal!! by controlling the number of seatings, Chef K and Chika are able to interact and share their craft with patrons in an intimate and personal way. There is no hustle and bustle or fakeness that would otherwise follow some restaurant vibes. There is purely passion for fish, customer service and, of course, metal music! I urge you to dine at the chefs bar and let Chef K tell you his extensive and wonderful background from catering some A list bands, to being on tour, and changing restaurant models all while being fed an amazing feast. The fish is sourced from Japan and screams quality and flavour. He knows exactly what he's doing with all the fish profiles and pairing them with a variety of notes like shiso, yuzu and ginger. Between the 14 unbelievably mouth watering and satisfying dishes, Chef K and Chika's kindness shared the spotlight easily. Humble beginnings have led to an extraordinary and legendary journey for SKK. Some of the special highlights were the blue fin tuna, South American jumbo prawn, Spanish mackerel and the scallops. I cannot wait to bring my omakase/metal loving friends and family here to join in on the greatness because sharing truly is caring and this gem is too awesome to keep to myself!

The dinner ended up being over 2.5 hours which was longer than we expected, but I found it worthwhile. Something to note, you need to pre-book your reservation online and pay a deposit of $50/person. I am not privy to the contractual agreements that our local restaurants make with food delivery services such as Skip The Dishes, but if food costs begin to increase, certainly most customers will understand that restaurant prices must also increase in order to remain competitive in their quality after noticing a downward change in their fresh fish and teriyaki dishes, we tried adjusting our orders so we could obtain a quality dinner via delivery, even if it meant paying a little more - after all, it's the quality of the food and the taste of the sauces, etc that one is really looking for in a Japanese restaurant, not a cheap bargain for maki and nigiri items, and yet that seems to be exactly what Sushi Fu seems to have done - as if they refused to change their prices, and instead preferred to downgrade their customer's expectations and begin cutting corners in ways that made it impossible to remain a customer - at least in our case the final straw occurred when Sushi Fu appear to have started using cheaper nori, and then serving maki that seemed to have been made more than a day in advance and then improperly stored - making for food items that became nothing short of totally revolting - tough grains of rice around dry salmon, wrapped in tough and tasteless nori that was utterly impossible to leave in the mouth, let alone swallow.. I still shudder when I recall the last meal we ordered from them - totally unacceptable maki and salmon teriyaki that left a sour taste in the mouth and was served on a bed of mostly cheap onion slices I suppose that being an expert sushi chef outside of Japan doesn't also guarantee the expected expertise in choosing food supplies at market, so my thoughts ran to the possibility of poor decisions and uninformed food changes being made by Sushi Fu, where price was the only consideration that could not be changed, and predictably the entire experience that had been so carefully crafted for years was now left in ruins
