great food; fresh fish. And dessert is worth saving room for. Perfect spot to watch games if you want to avoid crowds while enjoying happy hour and delish food.

Salmon sushi - little bit of rice and a whole lotta fish!

Our favorite sushi restaurant! We love coming here. The fish is fresh and large servings, they have delicious creative rolls, and the staff is friendly. They can accommodate gluten free, and vegetarian (including Asian vegetarian no onions/garlic). What I love most and unique: their sushi rolls are a thin layer of rice. Unlike other restaurants with a thick layer of rice in their rolls. My favorites: hamachi and Salmon sushi, Summer lettuce wraps (unagi, salmon, albacore), Hawaiian Breeze, and Monster in Laws. Off menu: Party trays! They do a great job with party trays, just call ahead and let them help you build a creation.

We arrived at happy hour and had a few rolls. They were all good but the California roll was the best I ever had. Very full and creamy texture of the fresh avacado. Usually California rolls are boring and dry with my expectations set very low. We were very surprised and now have raised the bar for future California rolls. Miso soup and cucumber starter were very good.

Nice place, there was good seating. No line on a Saturday night. Came out pretty quick. Sushi was good.

The food, service, and ambiance were all immaculate. My group had to make it to a concert after this, so our server said, "Say no more." and got our food out within minutes. And our rolls were exquisite. It was also very nice to have so many veggie options! Definitely coming back here again whenever I come back to the city.

On a whim I decided to try this place and I'm so glad! The service is impeccable, very informative and quick. They had the Laker game on which is expected, but the TV is off to the side which I appreciate so the ambiance was chill with good music and good vibes. As soon as my party of 3 were seated we were served water and cucumber salad which they should bottle and sell in bulk. It's so tasty! We tried the chicken karage appetizer, seaweed salad, side salad which was delicious and a huge portion along with a few rolls and some mochi for dessert. All of the fish was fresh and delicious but I was especially impressed by the spicy tuna and the eel. I will definitely be back!

I love this place! I came to this place every year for the last 7 years and it never disappoints. The owner of this place is so sweet and accommodating and they are very caring about all their customers! The fish here is the star, it's so fresh and the cut of the fishes are good size. The sushi rolls, especially the African spider roll and the caterpillar are my favorite. Definitely worth it. The restaurant has indoor and outdoor seating but come early since it place do get pretty crowded!

Happy to have this spot on Balboa! We got the Notorious V.E.G. and the veggie vixen, along with a seared sablefish nigiri special. It was all delicious! Service was friendly, prompt, and on top of it. We sat outside on a nice day. They even have some pull-down sheets to keep out the wind.

It was our first time trying this place after one whole year of living in this area, what a shame!! This place is so good! The owner is super nice and friendly. The service is great! The staffs are very attentive and always refill water and wasabi for us without having to ask. We love it here and we will come back for more! My most favorite dish is Presidio roll! The ambience is great We will come back and try more dishes for sure!! :)

My experience with their Omakase was really good. Sashimi were very fresh. Current price as of December 1, 2022 is $47 for 10 pieces. Service was super. You better make reservation. But the bar table seems not busy when we were there a few days ago.

I feel SO fortunate to live close to Sushi Bistro. It is an intimate space with only a handful of tables and a small staff. Both times we have been in, the quality, portion size, and preparation of everything we ordered has been phenomenal. The fish is always fresh and flavorful and the rolls are very thoughtfully crafted with ingredients that compliment the fish well. Be sure to ask about the specials, as their fish selection is always changing with the seasons and availability. The accommodating, knowledgeable, and friendly staff really is the cherry on top to this already fabulous restaurant. Can't wait to come back!

Sushi Bistro quickly became a family favorite. It was referred to us by a friend and at first taste of the food, the quality stood out. We were seated right away and greeted with smiles by the owner, David and his staff. We were given some delicious pickled cucumbers to start. My 7 year old daughter loves Tuna sashimi/nigiri and once she got a taste of one, she wanted to order a couple more. My wife got the tempura udon which was soothing for a cold night yet the portion was very generous. I opted for various nigiris and the African spider. All stand out dishes. I loved the nigiris so much I've ordered the nigiri 10 piece omakase since so I get to taste various cuts and offerings. We have gone there to celebrate big milestone/celebrations since our first visit and will continue to be patrons.

Creamy, briny uni on warm crisp toast, rich without being heavy. Highly recommend! The donburis are gorgeous. I got the tuna donburi which definitely hit the spot while my friends got the sake donburi, and some specialty rolls. They really enjoyed it! 5/5 for food quality and taste. Now for the reason of 4/5 which I may even opted for 3.5/5 if it were available. We were the first group of 9 to come in right at opening and were told that because we had a large group everyone was required to spend $70. That's not hard to hit considering you're eating out at a sushi restaurant, but the fact that we were told to spend at least $70 a person in order to be seated is crazy! We even asked what was recommended and the seasonal donburi or sake was the most popular. So now we went for those options, but still had to make up the remaining $32 per person that went for the sake donburi. Some people that didn't even want to drink opted for beer because they already got matcha next door. Service charge was already included yet the requirement to spend $70 a person just to dine here is ridiculous. I would come back, but not with a group of more than 4. Anyone that has friends or colleagues of more than 4 go elsewhere!

It's a great cold dish to start. Then we got the oden with the mochi filled tofu purse, beef tendon and fish ball. Really yummy and the tendon is so silky soft. Then finally we shared chicken oyster skewers, chicken thigh and green onion skewers, the pork katsu and tuna don. It was really fantastic meal and good progression ending with the final rice dish. The skewers have a great charcoal taste and we loved the seaweed they give you with the tuna rice to make little wraps with. It's a really delicious combination. My only complaint would be that the back room is a but stuffy and doesn't have much air flow. I'd definitely try to sit in the front room or on the patio if the weather is nice. The food is......very average. The dishes are very simple and could be made at home pretty easily. I know they make a lot of the stuff in house but the dishes itself is very simple, ingredients and cooking method. That said, it is very expensive for what they are offering. The karaage was fried well but it was very salty and sweet at the same time. Yosedofu is not my thing. Maybe I just don't like cold tofu but it's just tofu with ginger, scallions and bonito flakes. Negima was ok. A bit dry and very small piece. Tsukune was ok but they charge $3 for a sauce which is basically just an egg yolk. Tonkatsu felt like they boiled the pork chop and then fried it. Oden was very underwhelming. Thr mochi thing was unique but I didn't like it. One of the pieces was just a daikon that tasted like a daikon... Kamatama udon is just udon with the same toppings as the yosedofu. Other than the homemade udon, you can def make this at home.

I would pay at max $250 for two people compared to other sushi omakases I've tried which are just as nice if not nicer in San Francisco for better price. I would've given them 4 stars at this point since it's just price, but the reason I'm giving 1 star is because I made a reservation at 8:30pm on a Monday. We were seated at by 8:32pm. We had requested counter seating so we could watch sushi being prepped and made and we got those seats. We had left the restaurant at 9:30pm, so we spend less than an hour eating which isn't the problem. The problem is that they started cleaning at 9:15am while we're still eating our last piece of nigiri. They poured a whole bucket of cleaning solution on the counters right in front of our seating, so the smell was very small. They had provided a small birthday treat while they were cleaning but we couldn't enjoy much because of the smell and cleaning going on. I just don't understand why you would allow reservations at 8:30pm but start cleaning up before customer have finished eating and giving them less than an hour for their full set nigiri omakase. We paid premium, so we had higher expectations. My suggestion to folks reading this is that there are much cheaper and nicer options for sushi or sushi omakase in San Francisco. Go to those instead.
