Loved it! Now, here is why: I like sushi. I like trains. I like to eat. I like to save! I love the concept of this restaurant. The sushi is going around a conveyor belt. Different dishes cost differently depending on the color of the plate they are on. I have never paid less than $5 for adamame, well at Choo Choo moving sushi bar it is only $1,50! I had so much sushi that I had a serious food overdose by the time we left there. Service was good. But it really doesn't matter because you are serving yourself. They were attentive and refilled my iced tea as soon as it was less than half way full. One thing that does matter is that they are continuously refilling the belt with everything! My brother's friend who is from Japan accompanied us, since he (duh!) loves sushi. He said the quality of the food was excellent for the price. I agree. As you see the sushi moving around the room, you have a menu to help you determine what is in each dish. They do have labels telling you what it is. I paid less than $40 for me, my mom and my friend. My bill at a regular sushi place is at least $30 for just ME! It was about 7 of us there, and I did not hear anyone complaining about the bill! This place is definitely worth trying. I am fairly new to the Sushi world, and am nowhere near an expert or as adventurous at trying raw fish. But I do stick to my constants of Tuna, Salmon, and shrimp. I came here with a bunch of friends on Saturday night, and my first impressions is that this place is fairly good if you are looking for a low end sushi bar. The best part of the entire restaurant is that they have a conveyor belt that runs a big loop from the kitchen out thru the dining room and back to the kitchen. As a customer, you grab yourself a seat along the conveyor belt and watch as different plates of sushi move by you. All the plates are color coded that range from $1.50 a plate up to $4 a plate (based on the type of sushi ). I docked a few stars because I did not feel the sushi was very fresh. I watched the same 6 plates of sashimi go by me for over an hour that we were there. Being that the plates are in an open air environment, you can be assured that the fish is at room temperature. One of my sushi options was a roll that was topped with BBQ eel. I tasted a little piece of the eel and it had a fishy taste to it. Usually, the eel that I have tried at the higher quality restaurants, has a very mild taste, and kind of tastes like chicken. I ended up with 6 plates of sushi, and a drink which cost me about $25 before tip. It was a little expensive for the quality of the sushi, but not very expensive that would prevent me from going back. There are definitely better places to go, but if you are looking for something that is quick, and has a large selection of different items to taste, then this place could be for you. read more

Other Yelpers have already explained very well the entire concept of Sushi Choo-Choo. Since I have nothing to improve on there, I'll get on to my review: I liked the idea here that you could try different rolls without getting a huge roll that you may or may not like. As dishes came along on the belt, it's very easy to read the name and the ingredients first and then determine if you want to choose it to try. This enabled me (and others in our party) to be a bit adventurous when we normally wouldn't be in a position to do so. We were seated at a booth, so we were sort of "at the end of the line." We had also come prior to 6 PM. Offerings initially were pretty standard rolls and we did have choices (each different roll has 3 plates available as it goes around - often there were 2 or 3 available for us to grab). As the 6 o'clock hour approached, the choices became more diverse, including fried shrimp, dumplings, edamame and spring rolls among other more exotic rolls. But the restaurant had also become more crowded, with more people seated at the bar-style area at the beginning of the line, which resulted in (at times) some offerings being gone by the time they snaked around to us. This wasn't really much of a problem since all of us were pretty stuffed at this point, but if we had just arrived, I can see that it may have been a bit disappointing. Sushi was good overall. While it's not the best sushi I've ever eaten, everything I tried (and I ate quite a bit) was satisfying and flavorful. Some rolls were more to my liking than others; this is, however, how you find out what you'd want to order on a large-roll scale - try a bunch of small ones! All in all, a very pleasant experience that I would definitely recommend. If you're a real sushi snob, I can surmise that this isn't a place for you. But if you're the typical sushi eater, this is a great change of pace and a nice opportunity to walk outside of your comfort zone and be a bit adventurous. Items can be ordered off of the menu; they were delivered promptly and taste was very good. Service was courteous also. They were very accommodating to my toddler grandson, providing him with an attachment for his chopsticks, which enabled him to successfully eat with them. How thoughtful! read more

This is one of the only moving sushi bars in Houston. It's located up north and it's about a 30+ minute drive from Alief, but I think it's well worth the drive! When you walk in, you'll see the conveyor belt surround 3/4 of the entire restaurant, leaving an area open for hibachi... though I've never really seen anyone actually use it cause-- let's face it-- this place is all about the moving sushi! I love how as soon as we were seated, we can take our pick of food and dig right on in! :D They have a great variety of your basic favorites like shrimp tempura roll, california roll, tuna sashimi, gyozas, stuff like that. I always get the spicy girl roll and the crazy lover roll (Their honey wasabi is what makes the roll. Seriously try this out!). All ranging from $1.50-$4 a plate. You'll get a menu to let you know which item costs what. There's also additional rolls not on the menu that you'll have to directly order as well. Which is okay because there's staff walking around regularly to check up on you. So if you pick it right, you could be walking out of the place full off of a $10 or less meal! :) The reason I'm giving this place 4 stars instead of 5, though, is because sometimes the food isn't all that fresh when you pick it up, most likely due to the fact that this place is technically a buffet and the food has been sitting on the belt for a while. It's kind of a pet peeve for me when sushi tastes room temperature. Also, whenever I'm craving dessert there, the only thing I want from this place is green tea ice cream. But whenever I ask the waiters for it, they never seem to have it :( RESTOCK PLEASEEEE!! Either way, I'll still come back here. This place is too good to not come back to! P.S. I recommend asking to sit on the far right of the restaurant (next to the bar) and towards the back because that's where you can get a view of what the chefs put on the belt and it's the first side of the restaurant that gets the new, fresh food first. ;] read more

The only conveyor belt sushi place I have seen outside of Japan. The rolls are of good quality. The great thing is the portion sizes are small (4 approx 4 pieces per plate) which makes it easy to sample many different kinds. If you happen upon one you really like you can either wait for another to come around or just ask the chef to make you some more personally. The items come around on color coded plates, each color represents a price (they range from $1.50 - $4.00). When you are done the waitress will simply tally up your plates. The items vary: sashimi, nigiri sushi, crab puffs, spring rolls, edamame, seaweed salad, and many different types of rolls. Their wasabi needs help, however. It is definitely not spicy, and has little flavor. I may try to remember to bring my own next time. A fun place for lunch or dinner. read more

I've been here a few times and I definitely recommend it. I took my mother out recently and for the two of us, it was only $24. It's sushi on a moving belt which you can find elsewhere but not much in Houston so it gives it a cool factor. The staff was very attentive and friendly, there was a good variety on the belt. The portions are smaller and that helps to keep the price down and also keeps me from over indulging. I think it's definitely a must try. You may not find the extreme variety that you would at a traditional restaurant, but you can also ask for different things from the chefs. This isn't your traditional sit in with gourmet food, but it's definitely worth the visit and it's easy on the wallet. And my ma liked it (definitely a plus). I'll be going again. Sushi Choo Choo is located at FM 1960 in the Cy-Fair area, so I was clearly hesitant. My husband is a die-hard RA Sushi- Highland Village - fanatic, and I was leaning toward Sushi Miyagi in Bellaire. In my mind, there was no way that good sushi could exist in Cy-Fair, a good 20 minutes from our home near the Galleria. Buddy, let me tell you... I was so wrong! We arrived and were seated side by side at a low-set bar with a small silver conveyor running in front of it and all around the center of the restaurant! Each item went by preceded by a little descriptive sign. You just take what you want off the belt. We also had a menu with the full listing of sushi choices, so we knew what to wait for as the conveyor came around. Directly next to where we were sitting was the sushi prep area where the chefs were making this fantastic food. I was impressed that I saw new items go out every other minute, and felt reassured that everything on the conveyor was fresh. Perhaps the coolest part was that each sushi plate was colored. Different colors represented different prices, so you didn't have to wonder what you were spending. Surprisingly, everything there was SUPER REASONABLE (read: dirt cheap). Most plates held 4 pieces and ranged from $2-4 each. Wow!!!! Even more surprisingly, the food was delectable! My skepticism quickly faded as we sampled things that were wonderful, even for somewhere like RA! I tried a "Monster Roll" - tempura shrimp with Snow Crab and Spicy Mayo - and it was my absolute favorite! My husband loved their Crunchy Crab. We finished up with Green Tea Ice Cream! These weren't the best sushi rolls I've ever had, but for what it is, it's great, and it sure beats Sushi Sara down at 249. This place actually looks sort of classy inside. I noticed the happy hour specials...drinks and 30% off sushi...but the hours end kinda early. For ~$25 for two people we had: - Black pepper tuna - Crazy Lover roll - Firebird roll - Baby Green Monster roll (something like that) - Gyoza - Spicy Tuna roll - Seaweed salad and...I think that was it. The black pepper tuna was ok, good pepper flavor, but such a small thin strip of fish. Both the Crazy Lover and Firebird rolls were delicious! They were spicier and they had mayo-y sauces and just overall great. (FYI, each roll comes with about four standard sized sushi pieces.) The Baby Green Monster (or whatev) was filled with crabmeat and topped with seaweed salad. It was a nice break from the spicy rolls and we really enjoyed it. Gyoza was ok, but super greasy. Spicy Tuna roll was not my favorite, but not bad by any means. The Seaweed Salad tasted great at first, and it was a hefty portion, but the more I ate, the less I liked it. I think for the amount of food we got and the quality, the prices were more than reasonable. I left very full...we could've probably forgone a plate or two. Service is very efficient--you basically sit around the conveyor belt loaded with plates and a waiter will come up and refill your water and handle any extra things you may need. The sushi and fried appetizers were decent. It is a Japanese restaurant but managed by a Chinese family and the music background is definitely traditional Chinese melody. Downside is, the small portion of sushi pieces served on one plate and I received an upset stomach a couple hours after eating the sushi and I find sushi more of a snack than a meal so it wasn't very fulfilling for me. I still think my dad's sushi is the best only because I'm a spoiled daddy's little girl therefore I have high expectations about other chef's sushi whenever I go out to eat, teehee! What a horrible dining experience. I did not want to post a review, but after finding there isn't any way to email the company, I had to come here. Went at 1 pm on a Saturday, and the The sushi seemed like it was from yesterday. It stunk. It tasted old. I didn't even touch it, but my wife did. I took my little cousin and sister here when I was in town. In Dallas, we have quite a few Kura's popping up around town. Although Houston has one as well, it was quite far so we opted for this location. The conveyor belt has quite a few options but isn't as high tech as the other places. You can either call over the waiter and order separately or wait for the plates to come around. Well, this belt is super long, so if you see something you like, grab it or else you will have to wait quite awhile to see it again. The sushi quality is alright. The plates are color coded based on price. In my opinion, the sushi is a little expensive. They don't just have set prices. There's many categories which can be a little daunting. I came here a few days ago and they were very attentive and the waiter came to ask if we would like more water or came by to make sure we didn't want anything off the belt if we weren't really picking out a lot. I took my boyfriend here and he really liked it, it was quick and we wanted this as a snack but he couldn't help but try more. There's nothing on the table that I saw that tells you the prices of the different colored plates--there's one sign you could easily miss on the Choo Choo (an automated line that brings different dishes past your table) and the price-marked plates (by plate rim color) hanging on the wall in several places. Food is just so-so. Didn't have anything horrible but nothing wonderful either. On the low side of MEH. For the prices, NOT a bargain. Clean place. Booths need repair. Tired, maybe dispirited, ultimately unfriendly staff. I was there at 1pm so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt, since I didn't see a smile from ANYONE. If you are like me and get cranky and impatient when you are hungry, this concept is definitely for you! We walked in and were seated immediately and started picking plates straight off the constantly moving conveyer. As for the taste of the sushi, it was pretty good for the price. The nigiri was good as well. The cream puffs were really good, it comes with a side of sweet and sour sauce. They also offer many other items on the menu. I had a solid 3-star "A-OK" visit and will be back. Service 4 Stars - I called them at noon to let them know I had a party of 13 coming at 1pm. It was a Sunday. They expressed a moment of concern for keeping so many seats open but were happy to accommodate. I arrived around 11:45.
