North-side of Houston finally has Taizzi! We went a week after soft opening and food was great, service was excellent! Also really cool how we got to meet and talk to the owner of Taizzi and actually got to know more about his future business openings (cannot wait for him to announce!). To be honest, we only got to know about Taizzi just about 4 weeks ago when we went to their Katy mills location, then we went to their Memorial location last weekend, and now 290. This specific location is also similar in some aspects but different in many compared to the other two. PROS: - price: lunch and dinner are both a few dollars less compared to katy and memorial (cons listed below) - thick cuts of sashimi - nice big portions - fish to rice ratio is perfect - lots of parking outside CONS - no tablet system to order self leisurely (he said they are still fairly new so the chefs have a hard time keeping up, so maybe they might implement later?) - drinks aren't included in AYCE price here (however this can also be a pro as the price reflects this) - a little dark, and menu is a little hard to see as the background is dark as well (forgot to snap a pic) - next door is nail salon, so if you are sensitive to smells, you may feel a little nauseous My pros definitely overpowers the cons, therefore it's still a 5/5. Service was honestly great, and we really liked how we were checked on so often. My cousin had asked for just a half cup refill on his diet coke, and he was given a to-go of it. FYI, If you use a stamp card; better use it up quick as they will be importing a new system soon! Tai was so generous to still give me my stamps even though he said that they will be ending it in the near months but I guess hearing how often my cousin and I go to his memorial location, he signed it anyways, HAHA!

Food is delicious, customer service is great but sometimes the wait can be a bit long, we personally don't mind it because the food is worth it, out go to is chicken tempura and non-spicy Korean ramen and mango mochi.

They served me instant ramen. The food was absolutely disgusting in general. Horrible atmosphere. The service was fine.

The food and service was great. My favorite item was the korean bbq roll. If you come here have a chat with the owner as he is a great guy!

How damn cute! They go over the top with their to go/delivery packaging…read more Sushi is good and travels well. The edamame was a great surprise - not your typical boiled and salt. It was that but also charred on a grill that added a little plus plus. We'll order from them again.

There's seating outdoors, inside at the sushi bar, tables, and more seating upstairs. I noticed…read morethat they used machines to give proportionate amount of rice for the nigiri and rolls. This is nice to have consistent amounts of rice for each dish. I do wonder if this would make service slow or not because it did take awhile to get our food. There were a lot of to go orders and the way they package the items looked top tier. I did see they had a reasonable price for omakase for 2 ($95). This alone I think is worth trying this place out. However, I was not hungry enough for their omakase. I don't know if the machine played a roll in it but the seaweed was a bit soft and got stuck onto the dish. This made the quality of the rolls disappointing. The fish tasted fresh but I think the flavors and ingredients overpowered the fish. I would have liked ingredients that would elevate the fish and make it stand out as the highlight of the rolls. However, I thought they did a good job with presentation in each dish. I tried the rainbow row and that was a bit hard to eat because the seaweed got stuck onto the wooden board. I also thought the menu didn't reflect all of the ingredients that were inside of the rolls. They list the main stuff but not everything else. For example, I noticed that there was asparagus inside of the rainbow row but it isn't listed. For that reason I'd give it 3 stars. I wouldn't order this again. The next item I tried was the yuzu kissed and this was my favorite out of everything I've tried. I do think that it was missing something that would balance out the citrusy flavor but nevertheless it was still tasty as long as you don't douse the fish in the sauce, 5 stars. I also tried the Wagyu pitchfork and I think something that would've made this taste better would be a sauce maybe like an eel sauce. This would also get 3 stars for me. The spicy tuna roll was 3 stars for me and it was more so of the texture of the tuna. The tuna felt like it was stuffed in the roll and was like a soggy texture. Some of the tuna fell out as I was eating it and it also made the seaweed wrap around it a bit moist. I think if you go here you definitely should get the sashimi that way you could actually taste the quality of the fish. I tried the medium tuna and fatty and these were actually what I would expect from a place like this. The quality was there but the other items didn't hit the mark for me. The other item I tried was the Japanese scallop and the scallop was tasty and had that smooth buttery texture. The seaweed again kind of ruined the scallop for me. It felt like the scallop was shoved into the roll and was all soft and squishy when I picked it up.

Inside were tables with grills spread between 4 people of seating. There were both booths and tables. Everything was wooden and Japanese aesthetic inspired. You can control the grill flame with the knob next to your table, and it's completely self-serve they give you a couple tongs but otherwise you're all good to go. We ordered the meat lovers platter for 2 and it was more than enough food for 2 people. It came with rice, miso soup, a chicken, short rib, beef, edamame and a salad. This was a solid deal for 2 ($72 per person and $36 each). For two this price is reasonable, and more than enough food. Not included in this price, but offered at the restaurant are various options of soju, Sapporo beer and lychee cocktails. However, my only issue was that the other half of our party wanted to do AYCE. The AYCE starts at $45 and then goes up to $80. You have 90 minutes to eat this and they put up a wall between you and your party. For the cuts and meat, i doubt you'll get your money's worth unless you're willing to eat a lot,. This issue too is that the structure of the restaurant doesn't have a few hoods like other barbecue places. So it gets very hot inside as well as the smell of barbecue gets all over you. The parking situation is fine and there's probably around 50 people worth of seating inside.

Visited with the family on a soggy Sunday afternoon to try this local Korean and Korean-Fusion hot…read morespot that we have desperately been needing to go to. Even in the main dining area you are treated to a cozy and intimate setting that feels proper without feeling off putting. There are private dining areas available as well and I'd love to come back with a good size group to take advantage of that some time. There's no high chairs available, so not quite friendly for little ones, but kids are certainly welcome. Our service was handled appropriately, as we had our water glasses filled at all times. When I asked our waiter to run through our order as first time visitors, he eagerly helped us to refine what would suit our group best. We wanted to get items that felt Classicly Korean and we left feeling like everything we ordered was a hit. The food really is spectacular here, most of the menu is traditional Korean fare, but there's a fun section of fusion pasta dishes that definitely seem to be a hit. The steak Dianne, as other have mentioned, was quite lovely. Extra rich sauce with nicely sliced piece of ribeye on top, it's something nice for those who may not be familiar with the flavor profile of the other dishes to dip their toes into the pool with. The kimchi pancake was able to hold up being held with chopsticks, and that's really all you can ask for, it also tasted good. Bulgolgi was marinated well and tender, another fan favorite that they executed well. The pork cutlet was excellent as a textural piece of the meal, the breading was just so crisp and stayed that way even as we picked over other things at the table. My favorite is easily the Spicy Pork Jowl Rice Cake. The just spicy enough heat level here, just creates that craveability that keeps you coming back for the next bite. Textures were immaculate here as well, lightly fried rice cake gave that light crispness on the exterior and chewiness on the interior. My main reason for loving my experience here is that my wife, who can tend be a bit closed of to new cuisines, loved everything we ate here. That's a big W for this household, and worth a 5 star from me!

There are fusion items on the menu but for the items we ordered we either had Italian or Korean. Sweet potato fries - nice and crispy unfortunately there were some bits that were not cooked all the way. Gochu Potato Pancake - tasty but not crispy enough, sauce was also tasty. Spicy Seafood Arabiata Pasta- sauce was nice just a little kick, seafood was cooked nicely and pasta was nice. Galbi-Tang - soup base was very nice. The veggies were cooked nicely. The rib pieces were nice the meat was tender unfortunately, there were gristly parts that were hard to chew and just not easy to eat. Parking - shared parking lot
