If you just want to eat some good sushi, you can grab it off the conveyor belt... We did both as we ordered a couple things and grabbed a couple things. The downsides... We ordered mochi ice cream and the first set tasted chalky like it had been frostbitten. It was also mushy and a weird color... My daughter and I ate here while her siblings and dad skated since we were able to watch from the table. My expectations weren't very high, but I was pleasantly surprised. The miso soup was super flavorful. The seaweed salad had a nice flavor and I enjoyed the cucumber and carrots mixed in. The gyoza were pretty standard. This sushi restaurant is immediately next to the ice rink in the middle of the galleria mall on the first floor. During Christmas time they setup the huge tree in the center of the rink. Such a great spot to hangout, take in the holiday atmosphere, and relax for a bit between all your shopping. Food and drinks are decently priced. Lots of good options so I'm sure you'll find something you like. Hot sake was a must due to all this cold weather. Sushigama I am beginning to realize that the Galleria Mall has some fantastic eating places and I have not explored many. Quite recently I tried the Sushigama. Assuming almost to certainty that there will not be anything without fish in a Sushi place, I had a burger and came here only for a friend. They surprised me with vegetarian options. Not many but quite enough. I had to try now, and was really happy I did. It was yummy. The place itself is bang opposite the ice rink in Galleria Mall. It has this revolving belt on which on your food is placed and it slowly drives up to you, and not just that, all the desserts the others ordered too passes by that belt and you can't stop your mouth from watering- anyone heard of Live Ads, its Gotto to be this- brilliant idea to get the customers to order more!! Save your money and just have better sushi outaide the mall when you are done shopping. I tried not to judge the quality of the sushi given it was in a mall, bit it's about on par with what you would expect except WAY more expensive. Conveyer belt sushi is fun because it's quick and well priced. But Sushigami wants to charge you Galleria prices for warm fish and over cooked rice. Given that it sits right beneath the skylight of the mall, the sushi was not the right temperature, which definitely affected the flavor. With such a long conveyer belt, I would say there were only about 7 different rolls cycling around, and a lot of them were roll combinations I did not want (room temperature chicken katsu? Pineapple in a roll???) And with the only plate prices either being $6 or $8 for 2-4 pieces, it was WAY over priced. I also didn't see any actualy crab on the rolls, only crab stick/Kani. Everything made to order was way too pricey as well. They must have switched owners too because the menu looks different. Grab a cookie to stave off your hunger while shopping and go find better sushi elsewhere. read more

If you have not tried conveyor belt sushi and is shopping at the Galleria, this is a good place to start. They have nigiris, sushi rolls, teriyaki bowls, to name a few and desserts. It is located just outside the ice rink so you get free entertainment while enjoying your food. I was not expecting much but their seafood is surprisingly fresh. The selection is limited but we didn't mind. It is worth mentioning that the servers were attentive and friendly. Their prices were pretty good plus they offer military discount. The options they had at that time during lunch was large but we were also the first to arrive at opening. They had a decent amount of vegan options, none that we tried. We also ordered a few appetizers to share like the seaweed salads, Brussel sprouts, and shrimp tempura. All were good however we thought the Brussel sprouts could have less sauce on it. So because I'm eternally twelve years old, conveyor belt sushi amuses the kid in me and I insisted we dine here after walking by it a few times. The husband wasn't especially enthused about this suggestion but decided it was probably wise to humor me, and hey, he's not wrong. We chose a seating right by the ice rink so we could creepily stare at all the skaters because what else pairs well with conveyor belt sushi - am I right?! So service was decent enough - she merely tasked with bringing us our drinks and vegetable gyoza. Even then, I had to frantically track down another server for water halfway through our meal (staying hydrated is key!). The selections themselves felt rather overpriced, even considering the whole conveyor belt aspect, of which I'm sure was rather expensive to design and implement. The husband wasn't especially wowed by his actual fish-centric sushi selections, but wasn't totally disgusted either. While the menu seemed rather expansive, the conveyor belt felt a tad sparse? Perhaps because we were present during an off hour? I had a handful of vegetarian selections and they felt a tad measly - with browned asparagus and their loosely rolled construction. You can pick a table or a bar stool, and the conveyor belt comes by with sushi, and also other non-sushi items like fruit and brownies. The conveyor belt plates are color-coded and priced depending on the color. They also have some items on the menu that are not offered on the conveyor belt but that you can order separately. The sushi was totally fine--nothing crazy amazing but good--like sushi you'd pick to take to go. My favorites were the volcano roll (four pieces of sushi topped with a ball of crab salad) and dragon roll (four pieces of eel). Both were fine, standard sushi, though I thought they were a little expensive for what you got--each plate was $6, so $1.50 per piece, plus tip, so I thought it was pretty expensive, especially given that the sushi was just OK. read more

I had someone meeting me here for a late lunch while shopping and after sitting down and drinking a beer I was given the check and told I had to leave. I wasn't aware as to why they told me "just because". As he brought me my tab I asked for what a reason and again "just because". Ruined a lunch with a client! Save your time! After sitting here for only five minutes I have safety and health concerns for this location. The food isn't kept chilled on the belt which its pretty warm over here. I've seen various sushi go by that has browned avocados and cheesecakes that have clear brown liquid around it and is melting. I ended up leaving because I didn't want to risk getting sick. On top looking at the fish the salmon looks like poor quality and isn't cut/sliced properly you can see where they kinda tore into the fish. read more

As a kid, I always had an obsession with conveyor belt (kaiten) sushi joints. To me, Sushigami's sleek new installation by the ice-skating rink in the Galleria is equal parts nostalgic and futuristic. For future generations, the disappearance of Sushi Choo Choo from Houston means that Sushigami gets to claim the spot of "Houston kaiten sushi exemplar"! I went for the first time Thursday evening with two friends - business was rather slow and not too many options were circulating on the belt. However, our multiple servers were extraordinarily attentive, which was a delightful surprise considering the business model. We mostly ordered à la carte items - several basic salmon and tuna rolls, 2 chirashi bowls, an udon noodle soup, and "fried chicken on rice" (chicken tonkatsu). Of course, for the novelty factor we just HAD to try something from the belt, so we snagged a "salmon sandwich" (a hybrid of onigiri and maki, coated with tempura crumbs). Much to my astonishment, the food was actually quite decent! In the past, I've lowered my standards/expectations considerably when it came to kaiten sushi versus omakase or tableside service. I didn't have to do that here, though it may have been because we chose to order mostly fresh instead of taking from the belt. The chirashi bowls contained some untraditional additions (avocado, sweet potato) but were fresh and composed well; the tonkatsu was fried with finesse and served via the attention-grabbing conveyor belt high line (which delivers certain custom orders). The udon was nothing special - in fact, you could see that they cut a noodle brick in half - but it met expectations and was nevertheless satisfying. The price was fairly reasonable considering its location - my filling udon and chirashi bowl ran me only $14, excluding tax and tip. Since I rarely visit the Galleria, I wouldn't come here as a regular - but I think I'll make it a point to stop by for a chirashi bowl if I do find myself starving after shopping... read more

Most of the employees didn't speak English but finally someone said we could sit anywhere and we were given menus. No one came to explain anything. We managed to order iced tea and hot tea. The hot tea tasted like fish and the iced tea was sickeningly sweet. My husband took a sushi off the conveyor belt. Really none of it looked very good and I would have ordered something off the menu but no one came to take order, it was hard to get anyone's attention. Overpriced for the quality. Taste is only average. There were only about 5 or 6 different rolls out on rotation, if you want anything good expect to have to order it. The sushi is unique in a bad way; one dish was a California roll topped with a mountain of crab filling. Another had sweet potato. That's what you get for going to a mall sushi place.
