We had Randy come to our house for a sushi-making party for my birthday, and it was hands down one of the most fun, unique, and memorable nights we've ever hosted. From start to finish, Randy went above and beyond in every possible way. Not only is he incredibly talented, but he's also such a great storyteller and entertainer. He shared the story of how he got into sushi -- starting out working on fishing boats and eventually going to Cal Poly SLO -- which was especially fun for our group since we're a big Cal Poly family. It made the whole night feel even more personal and special. He was also so accommodating with everything I requested ahead of time. For my birthday, I asked if he could bring spicy tuna crispy rice, and he didn't just bring it -- he brought an absolutely insane nigiri platter plus extra special items (hamachi spoons) that completely exceeded our expectations. The food was phenomenal. The scallop nigiri was so perfect and fresh it was a fan fav. The best part was that everyone had an amazing time. Everyone got to make their own art display / tray of 3 rolls each. We had so much sushi. Our group ranged from people in their 20s all the way to their 60s, and every single person was engaged, laughing, learning, and eating incredible sushi. People were talking about it all night and even days after. If you're thinking about booking Randy for a private event, do it. It was such a special experience and honestly one of the best birthday celebrations I've ever had. We're already saying we might need to make this an annual tradition. Chef Randy and Chef Jamie came over to The King's Academy to teach a group of young kids on how to make sushi. The kids had a fantastic time and learned so much from Chef Randy!! He had everyone involved and excited about the sushi making. Chef Randy has an incredible gift for teaching; especially with the younger ones. He was patient and supportive, but really knows how to motivate the students. He was great at building confidence and keeping the class fun and engaging through a variety of activities that encourages conversation and interaction with the kiddos. I am so glad that we have Chef Randy and Chef Jamie come over to teach our students for three of our summer cooking class. It was worth every penny! We've been getting catering from Sushi Confidential for several years for get togethers at our house and at The Plex. They are our favorite sushi place--super fresh and delicious. We like how they have a wide variety of traditional staples like sashimi, gyoza, etc. to contemporary flavors like their Giesha roll, Shishito Kamikaze roll, etc. Their platform makes it easy to order and communicate. Randy and his team set up an Action Station where they had a chef making sushi right in front of the guests. We didn't have a huge party, and a few people had food restrictions. Randy not only was accommodating and patient but made sure to let us know which sushi was the adjusted one. Not only did they make sushi onsite, but we also had cooked food such as teriyaki and gyoza. Everything came in warmers and was delicious! There were no long waits for food. Presentation was excellent and everyone left the party raving about Randy and his team. After the event they cleaned up the kitchen so I did not have to do any extra work. Randy was so helpful and went completely above and beyond. The price point for the event was inline with my expectations and the experience was even better than expected. We spoke to multiple catering companies before I decided to reach out to Randy. Randy not only made suggestions on food portions, but made sure to work within my budget. Last December (2024) I chose Sushi Confidential San Jose (San Pedro) to host my own "Winter Wonderland" Christmas party and bought out their entire covered patio space for over 100 friends, family, and current and past clients. The event was an absolute homerun!! I eat at this location quite a bit so I knew the space would very comfortably accommodate my group. I explained my vision for the party to Jamie (their event manager) and couldn't have been more pleased with how easy she made the entire planning process....including talking through my own specialty cocktail menu for guests, arranging fun photo stations with props, and completely transforming the atmosphere into a Winter Wonderland. The food stations were also very nicely laid out on two sides of the venue so that guests could easily eat without long lines. I greatly appreciated all of Jamie's fun suggestions to enhance the experience and many thanks to the Sushi Con staff for their flawless execution for my event as well. I recently held a lunch time team building event for 25 people at the downtown SJ location. We had the outdoor area near the bar. Unfortunately, it was a very hot day, but that was the only downside (in the future, I would probably move inside on a hot day if possible). It was easy to book and they were accommodating to my requests. The staff was friendly and helpful. Randy and the other chefs did a great job helping us make our sushi rolls. We have a big family and the ability to simply order platters from their catering menu makes life so much easier. The cost is very reasonable for what you get. Certainly when compared to other places of similar quality. As to quality, the sushi itself was really tasty and the fish was very good. All the different types fish tasted delicious and had a very nice texture. That isn't always the case. I also appreciated that the ratio of fish to rice was well executed. also important to note, given that this was a take out order, is that the packaging made it super easy to transport. On a bit of a funny note, they provided a completely insane amount of wasabi with our order. It was probably close to 10x what we needed. For those of you who want to try his food without doing catering, usually he is working on Wednesday nights at Yuki Sushi in Willow Glen. Call before you go as his hours may change. Luckily for me, I attended one of his catering events and it was just as advertised. My friend Danny A. invited me and what can I say that he hasn't already said? The sushi is BOMB! The selections and combinations are inventive and new and most importantly, tasty! His lovely and talented cooking and serving assistants were also very charming as well. The whole experience was pretty cool and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that he does land himself a restaurant in the near future. Not only does Randy do private parties, be he also does sushi classes and corporate team building events. I went to my first party catered by Sushi Randy on Saturday, and it was amazing! Randy doesn't just throw a few plates of the "usual suspect" sushi rolls on a plate -- he serves up the most creative, delicious and unique delicacies I've ever tasted. He does it all night long too, accommodating special requests, describing what he's doing, even teaching people about rice preparation, sushi making and fish selection. He was an integral part of the party, entertaining the crowd as much as feeding them. We hired Randy to host a sushi cooking class/party for our venture capital firm. We interviewed a few other sushi chefs, but I knew that Randy was the perfect one from the first conversation with him. He is passionate about what he does and that comes through when you talk to him. He has such a great personality -- the perfect balance of confidence and easy-going -- the ideal personality for hosting parties such as these. After reading the Yelp reviews and speaking to one of his references, I was more than sold. His reference echoed all the praises out here on Yelp and simply raved about him. Our class/party was a huge hit for our group of 12. There were 2 non-sushi lovers in our group, and he made sure to take care of them, as well, providing cooked ingredients so they felt comfortable participating. After learning about how to cut the fish, how to make the rice, how to make miso soup, and learning how to make various sushi rolls, we all sat down to dinner and enjoyed our creations along with Saki Randy recommended. It was a fantastic party. We had made so much food that Randy and his assistants were able to box up sushi for all of us to take home with us. Honestly, hiring Sushi Randy is what MADE our party. I also need to mention the assistants he brought with him -- Nicole and Russell. They were so knowledgeable and helpful and perfect for our event, as well. Around two weeks before my daughter's 7th birthday party, I was frantically searching online for someone to cater a Japanese lunch. I foolishly scheduled her party early in the day, forgetting that most Japanese restaurants do not open until 11 am. Thank heavens for Yelp, I chanced upon Sushi Randy. When I saw his exquisite catering pictures and the $$$ next to his name I thought this was going to be a long shot. In my desperate state, I still sent him a message, among many I sent to various caterers/restaurants that day, and frankly didn't expect a reply. He usually does frou-frou sushi and my requirements were the pedestrian chicken teriyaki, katsu, assorted rolls, etc. Two days later, he replied and already said he can accommodate my relatively small order based on the information I provided in my message. I was ecstatic! We exchanged a few emails to sort out the details and finalize logistics. I was bracing myself for the cost but was pleasantly surprised it was very reasonable. Plus, he couldn't have been any nicer. He was so accommodating, even with a crazy request I had (which involves plastic grass, that's all you need to know). He was a lifesaver! Cut to the party. Food was ready on time and packaged well. He even lent us an industrial food warmer to maintain proper food temperature. To top it off, everything was delicious! Randy makes the BEST sushi I have ever had... I normally do not order rolls, because they have too much sauce or an enormous amount of rice (TGI and other "californiad" establishments) and typically enjoy nigiri and sashimi...... HOWEVER, Randy makes the perfect rolls, with very little rice and fresh fish, and balances homemade sauces that are amazing.. You must try the RSM roll and his poki salad-both come with his secret wasabi and spicy sauces, which are to die for! He is reasonable in price, and takes pride in what he does. You must hire him to cater a corporate or any team building event. His staff is professional, easy on the eyes and attentive.
