Food poisoning alert - Me and my BF always used to get take out from Sushi corner, it used to be our favorite place. Last night, tough, we got sushi and we both had food poisoning. I called there ans asked to speak to the manager, who pretended not to understand what I was talking about (hes asian), he kept saying we had had cooked fish (shrimp and scallop tempura sushi) so its not their fault. That was the only meal we had toghether, so I know it was. I asked him what he wanted to do about that and he kept pretending he was not understanding. Well never get back there again. read more

The sushi is decent if you want carry out and you live in Melrose. It satisfies my sushi fix. But the length of time it takes them to make it is ridiculous. I've been in there when it seemingly wasn't that busy on a late afternoon and had to wait a half hour. Last night for a carry out order? It took close to an hour and a half. In addition, the order wasn't ready when picked up. Yes, it was a Friday night, but that's a bit much. Allow plenty of time when ordering and be prepared to wait when you go to pick it up. read more

Very disappointing.. We've been coming here for years but today we were extremely aggravated on how we were treated . 1 hour wait for miso soup and sashimi. We had to have our order to go because the wait time is ridiculous!!! read more

If I'm ordering take out sushi (and it happens a lot), I am almost definitely ordering from Sushi Corner. I have yet to have a single bad piece of sushi from this fine establishment. The sushi classics are done extremely well and the more inventive maki rolls (like the Tuna Spider Roll) are absolutely bursting with deliciousness. Just keep in mind Sushi Corner doesn't start delivering until 4pm, but you can still go in and eat there or get take out for lunch. read more

First off the food is very good. However, the girl at the front counter is terrible. Her customer service skills are lacking and just about every time I order a cold plate (sushi) with a hot plate she puts them in the same bag and the sushi always gets hot. This evening I ordered Katsu chicken and get home to eat it only to learn she didn't provide the katsu sauce. read more

Fresh sushi in volume, close to home. I've had the all you can eat (3 boats, 6 guys), take out for new year's party, quick bite while running an errand in town. Try the Melrose maki. My favorite is the Unagi. Fifth star is for fresh sushi in walking distance from home. read more

Great place to eat sushi! Prices are affordable and the portion is fair. Miso soup is delicious and waiting time is between 8-10 minutes. In my opinion, this place is soooooo much better than Four Seasons Table (in terms of sushi and customer service). read more

Reminds me a lot of tiny sushi places in Japan. The sushi is excellent. It's a little difficult to find. Park in the lot behind Shaws supermarket. We ate there and it was wonderful. Will go back. read more

The food here is actually very good. I'm giving it one star because of a serious issue that this particular restaurant location needs to start addressing: food allergies. The staff here are so ignorant of food allergies that, yes, they deserve one star for their brass insensitivity to the subject, and given its gravity. I have a pretty serious allergy to crustaceans and mollusks (otherwise known as shellfish), and the people who work at this location don't seem to understand that you can't just make your own alterations to food items without asking the customer the customer if it's OK, because you never know if a customer will oppose the change and / or have a serious food allergy. I've ordered from here twice in the last month. The first time I went, I ordered an eel & cream cheese & mango roll (which was delicious) and an avocado salad. Nowhere on the menu does it indicate that the avocado salad has anything but avocado in it. When I asked the cashier what was in the salad, he simply said "avocado and lettuce." I get my food, bring it home, start to eat it, and then start feeling a little weird. I look through the salad and whoops - OH LOOK - there's crabmeat in it. Not knowing whether or not it's real crabmeat, I go back to the restaurant. They tell me it's fake crabmeat, but I'm at the point in my life my body has a mild allergic reaction to the taste and smell of foods that taste and smell like shellfish, and I don't want to risk it being real crabmeat, so I ask for a new salad. The guy at the front argued with me for a bit, telling me that I should of told him about the allergy (which is true), but HE TOLD ME that there was only avocado and lettuce in the salad when I asked, so naturally I didn't think there was anything to worry about. Anyway, they ended up giving me another salad without all the extra stuff free of charge, for which I was grateful. So, you know, move forward a few weeks later and I decide to order out from there again last night with a few friends because, like I said - the food is good, and anyone can make a mistake once. My partner calls up the restaurant and we order. We put the phone on speaker and he asks what's in the House Salad for me. They say: "lettuce, cucumber, avocado, sweet potatoes, and crabmeat." So we order the salad without crabmeat, and verify this with the women over the phone before hanging up. So we pick up our food. I grab the salad and inspect it - no crabmeat, wonderful. I start munching away and after a few bites I start to feel a little weird. I take a closer look at the salad and THERE'S A PIECE OF SHRIMP IN IT that I mistook for a sweet potato. Luckily all that happened is that my throat felt a little scratchy. Anyway, I was so livid my friend called up the place and explained to the cook that I had a serious shellfish allergy which is why I didn't want crabmeat in the salad. His response? "I only put one piece of shrimp in it because I thought that'd be OK since you weren't getting crabmeat in it." Yes, sir, and that one shrimp has a the power to bring an entire person down if said person has a severe allergy to it. While I appreciate that they tried to replace the crabmeat with a different item for no extra charge, you just can't screw around with a person's food without asking them first. We picked up a replacement salad, and the chef told me that they fry all their veggie tempura pieces in the same oil as the shrimp, so they took the sweet potatoes out of the salad. Long story short: if you're a vegetarian or have a related food allergy, you may want to rethink going to this place. I probably won't be visiting them again. read more

The worst chirashi I have ever had! First of all it comes with only three kinds of fish and the portion is not very big at $20 price. Then there is a huge pile of pickled ginger and shredded radish underneath the fish that make it seem like it is a big portion. Worst of all, the rice tastes almost like a bland steamed rice with no flavor at all. No pleasant sourness or sweetness. The whole thing is a total failure. If you want to know what a really good bowl of chirashi is, go for the $18 one at Toraya in Arlington, for all its portion, variety, freshness and the amazing sushi rice! read more

Pretty good sushi. Something I found a bit weird was the fact that they put mayonnaise on their California rolls. But when someones delivery address was messed up and the delivery came to my house I helped the delivery woman find the right address to go too, and she offered me free sushi in return next time I go! Your classic "hole in the wall sushi spot" that you might find in asia. This place is a hidden gem for Melrose. The food is authentic and the sushi is fresh. I usually get takeout, but when I dine in, it's ok to BYOB. read more

Considering the cost, quick service, and location, this is one of the best sushi places in the northern burbs. As avid yuppies, we have tried them all. (A new Japanese/sushi pricier restaurant in nearby Malden has terrible sushi in comparison). The restaurant itself is very small and more like a large closet. The fish is always fresh and delicious. I'm in love with their seaweed salad. I would give it 4.5 stars if I could. The only downside is that there is not a whole lot creativity in the rolls and they have out two or three versions of the menu which is annoying when ordering as you don't want to miss anything. However, if you can get over that, this is the place to go to get quality sushi! read more

All I have to say is WOW - this place is fantastic! My husband and I LOVE sushi, and I happened upon this TINY place by accident one evening and thought we'd give it a try. i have been going to sushi corner for years. it's mostly known through word of mouth and believe me, i am the biggest advertiser for it, so much so, that the owner has even recognized my efforts. it's small but cute and cozy. price = cheap, sushi = fresh and big, byob, where they even heat up your sake = total savings, variety = plenty. i could go on all day. they also give free bottomless hot tea, so it's easy to warm up. recommended items: besides everything of course! house salad- lettuce, carrots, cukes, tomatoes, tons of avocado, tempura flakes, sesame seeds, a dollop of mayo, a piece of shrimp and crabstick, and the best ginger dressing in the world (i promise) which he makes from scratch with 30 different ingredients and spices, i asked, lol scallop tempura roll; summer maki- tempura fried sweet potato roll topped with spicy baked crabmeat, yummy; shrimp shumai ( tons of flavor jammed packed in a delicious little bundle). fried gyoza (fried perfectly everytime), tempura appetizer (light and delicious). salmon sashimi (fresh and melts in your mouth). this will be the best sushi you'll ever have, and i've been to plenty of them, including the fancy shmancy places, and nothing tops the sushi corner! read more

Got some take out tonight - some rolls and some nigiri. The quality of the fish was good, except for the yellowtail which tasted flat and lifeless. The tuna was good, the salmon was cut well, the fluke and snapper were fresh. The size of the pieces was large and the price was good. The miso soup was off; it tasted like it was made with bad water...there was an underlying mustiness, like that flavor that puddle water gets when it sits in the sun with a cardboard box in it. While waiting for the food, i got a bowl of rice for my baby and drizzled some of the soup on it. The net effect was a new flavor: rice packed in a bowl by the hands of a surly Chinese pack a day smoker. My daughter did not seem to care. It did take about 30 minutes, which she cared about. All together, this was a 3 star sushi experience. The service blows chunks here...the waitress was a teenager and her communication skills stunk. She charged me for an extra pond water soup and BSed me when I asked her why. Witnessing this girl's half-assed attempt at rationalizing a minor mistake was well worth spending the extra $2.50. Blah, this place ain't right. The manager/chef of this Sushi Corner restaurant seem to have a problem. He act like nice to us, but I can tell he just pretend. There were some yelling over back there in his own language with the people he work with. I heard they were talking about people orders and bad talk about the customers with a weird smile face expression. I know Chinese myself which is why I am writing a review on this from my experience. The girl who work there kept saying to each customers the food will be done in 30 minutes which she is wrong. It's better not listen to her. The two boys who can speak Chinese don't seem to do any cooking or preparing the food. I don't know why they hire those two useless lazy who just don't do anything. No wonder people can't get their food. THIS IS JUST AWFUL!!! A friend of mine who seem to know the manager/chef of this Sushi Corner restaurant give me the number.
