Came here for the first time in awhile (maybe like 5 years was the first time). I came right after work so it wasn't busy yet. The food was good and they have a lot of apps and food alongside sushi. The food was good but I felt like the sashimi and nigiri could be better. The sashimi slices weren't big and more poke style, and there was SO much rice on the nigiri. It's pretty well known that highest quality food and all you can eat food are mutually exclusive concepts. With that in mind... this is AYCE sushi and it's pretty solid. For about $25 you can pick from common rolls and sushi, like bbq eel, tuna, salmon and more. It's a pretty sizeable menu and you can do rolls or hand wraps even. There are some hot kitchen items too like gyoza, miso soup, chicken teriyaki and much more. If you upgrade to the deluxe menu, it's about $35. You're able to include some more items but I think a few you only could do 1 round for. Overall I didn't see the benefit of the deluxe for this night, as the basic menu had everything. Also knowing the quality would just be OK, I didn't bother upgrading. It's small inside and the outside looks pretty beat up. There is parking though. Service was solid. The food comes out fast. The menu says they will charge $1 for any left over pieces but I saw another table get the check while eating and didn't end up finishing a few. I guess it's more of a deterrent. That's fair. Glad that this local spot in Winchester has seemingly stood the test of time thus far and I wish them well. It's nice to see AYCE being done, not a big chain. Now the non sushi dishes I'll probably pass on the next time around, seafood salad wasn't bad, imitation crab meat in spicy mayo and crispy flakes. The bulgogi, was chopped pieces of beef in a soy sauce based sauce with carrots and such. The fried scallop was the mini scallops fried, probably the frozen ones but they were fine as it's still AYCE. After 3:30? It's deluxe menu only as that's dinner time about $33 bucks a person. We got a spread of sashimi, nigiri, maki rolls. The crunchy spicy salmon maki was probably my favorite. The sashimi, some of the fish was nice and felt fresh, the tuna was stringy and probably not as fresh. Overall though we were extremely full, the maki rolls are really filling and heavy, so order less qty at a time and more after you finish. There is a $1 per piece penalty if you over order. I used to come here every other weekend when I was in high school with friends & it was always satisfying whenever we were craving sushi + had big appetite. Not many AYCE sushi spots left & unfortunately I've found that Sakura is not as good as it used to be. Decided to grab a late lunch here today & when we sat down + ordered, it wasn't until we had filled the sheet out that they informed us that after 3pm, they serve dinner time buffet & not lunch. Lunch: $22.95/pp & Dinner: $32.95/pp I'm pretty sure we were missing a few items we ordered such as the hand rolls, but it was all good. The rolls were not bad & better than the sashimi. Only thing for the rolls is that most of the rolls, are filled with tempura. The rice for the rolls & the nigiri pieces was very wet. The sashimi was still kind of frozen and could taste the ice lol. The spicy seafood salad was just spicy imitation crab stick that was still pretty frozen. The food was much better in previous years and it had been a while since I have last visited (2 years), before today. The tuna sashimi was not good at all. Actually inedible. We had ordered two pieces & I took one bite before spitting it out because it didn't not taste fresh & for some reason the pieces were dry? Not sure never experienced this. I've been wanting to try this place since I saw it. An old New England style home repurposed into a sushi house and a buffet at that? Had to be good. Now, when I say "buffet" if you're anything like me you're expecting a few rows of already prepared food waiting to be devoured by the masses. First of all, there were no masses and secondly, there were no rows. After I was seated and my drink order was fulfilled I was presented with a checklist of dining options. Dozens of sushi options both cooked and raw, grilled food, salads, and even deserts. I was handed a pencil and instructed to check any and all items I wanted and they would be prepared fresh. Now, I was starving so I had to control myself from checking every box, but the options I chose were worth the wait. The seaweed salad and some potstickers were my appetizer and they came out within minutes. Deliciously prepared, the seaweed was wet, flavorful, and more than enough to whet my appetite. The potstickers were fried to a golden perfection and the dipping sauce that accompanied them was unlike anything I had ever tasted. Well, there was a soy base, but other than that an all new experience. Next came the sashimi pieces. Individual fillets of raw fish adorned on balls of still warm and very sticky rice. I couldn't eat them fast enough. They tasted like they had just come out of the bay that very morning. Then the rolls. I can't even remember what I ordered; some salmon here, some yellowtail there. What I do remember is the exquisite taste of each indivisible slice of the roll. No wasabi needed, the flavor and freshness spoke for itself. I ate until my belly was full and then requested five or six more individual pieces. I left filling like a tick about to explode and it was worth every penny of the $25 ticket. The lights were low, the music just right, and plenty of room to swing my elbows if needed. The place was empty besides myself and the staff, but in the short time I was there I noticed several people coming in for take-out orders. The place had a reputation for being one of the best in the area and I could easily see and taste why. It took me two months to finally make it three blocks down the street, but I'm sure glad I did. We stopped here for lunch and had a delicious, flavorful meal! Yum! We ordered two lunch specials (two maki rolls each + soup + salad) and also the spicy edamame. On a very cold New England day, the miso soup really hit the spot. The salad was a decent garden salad with a typical ginger dressing. The maki rolls we chose were delicious-spicy mixed fishes (both of us), salmon avocado, and sweet potato tempura. Each was tasty, fresh, and well made. The spicy edamame was the surprising star of the show-so flavorful. Oh, and spicy in such a good way. I was dripping from the heat while smiling and continuing to eat piece by piece. Salty edamame is good-this was fantastic! Simple, but really good! If you pay with cash, there are discounts available for up to about 15% of the bill (4 off 30, 6 off 40). I went here with my girlfriend. They give you a paper with a list of rolls that you can order from the regular menu and premium menu(This was pretty convenient). The sushi was okay and met the standard. They really packed the roll with rice making the roll's fish to rice ratio feel really off(But this is what you get when eating at buffets). The salmon for sashimi is pretty good. The waitress is nice and very attentive for service. Overall it is not bad for sushi but I will order smaller maki rolls so I won't get overstuffed with rice. read more

Do not let the outside deceive you! This place is WONDERFUL!!! I have been going here for years and love the dinner buffet!!! They have a great deal where you pay about $40/person and pretty much can get whatever you want (with the exception that you eat everything - every piece you don't eat is about a dollar or two). The staff is wonderful and knowledgeable. My favorite rolls are the specialty rolls (especially the Christmas, Winchester, and volcano). My sister introduced me to this place when I was younger and I have been going here for over 10 years! Take out is a bit exspensive so I do prefer to eat in house but no matter what, always a great meal at Sakura! Quality food, quality service! I was skeptical about coming here at first but I'm really glad I did. I came for AYCE during dinner time on a week day and it wasn't crowded at all. The tables are well spaced apart and all the staff members are wearing masks and gloves. We were pretty hungry so we were happy that the food came out so fast after we ordered. We had seafood salad, gyoza, seaweed salad and miso soup for appetizers. They were all very good. I was most impressed with the sushi. How have I lived in Newton/borderline Waltham all of my adolescence life and never had Sakura? Beats me, but I finally got a taste of this fantastic Japanese restaurant, although only had time for take out. I Started with the chicken wings , miso soup and salad. I then had the Triple Sushi and it was fantastic! It reminded me of a trip to Japan in 2017 in which I delved into many sushi joints. the way these sushi rolls were built with expertise and the fish was as fresh as could be, cut and layered/brushed...was fantastic. Came here for the sushi buffet.  It was about what I expected and have experienced at other restaurants' sushi buffets: you get a card where you tick off what you want, but since they know full well that most people have no idea what they're ticking off and wouldn't be able to really tell most items apart when put in front of them anyhow, what you actually get tends to be the more rice-heavy items like the maki and temaki rolls not the nigiri or sashimi---because rice is dirt cheap, this is simply how they manage to give you so much food for not much money.  Standard operating practice at any sushi buffet place, folks...you're getting exactly what you're paying for. And of course, this being a sushi buffet the rice they give you is pretty low quality run of the mill white rice, not the much more expensive REAL sushi rice which is firmer and stickier.  To get that, you'd have to pay a lot more to get from an a la carte sushi place where you'd end up paying at least $50 per person to get an honestly filling meal.   Two of the starters I thought were very good: the miso soup and seaweed salad.  We ordered seconds on those.   So, if you come here with REALISTIC expectations and a big appetite, it's not a bad option.  The interior was nice and the server was pleasant, though they clearly could have used another 1-2 servers given the number of customers (all the tables were filled). read more

This was definitely worth the long drive (I drove 40 minutes to this restaurant). It's a cute little restaurant, definitely great for groups and families. Their menu has a lot of items like any other sushi ayce restaurant. The price is definitely much fairer here than places I've been to before. It came out to be only thirty one dollars including soda and tip per person. As for the food, the salmon was extremely fresh, we basically ordered like 100 pieces of salmon through the entire visit. The tuna was okay, but I guess that's expected from an ayce place. I loved the mackerel, I'm a huge fan of mackerel even though most people think it's weird because of the taste. My friends who prefer makis enjoyed the rolls they ordered as well. The service was good, they were attentive and honestly I appreciate them tolerating my table because one of our friends was extremely hungover and he was being super obnoxious. Why spend literally five times more money for five times less food for the same quality or most likely way less quality? Why? I dunno why... do you? Service was fine here and it's a small place and quiet and intimate but a rather Spartan not-too-attractive basic décor but a bargain of the century. You order off the menu as you go and the doods make it -this is not a buffet with petrified old janky sushi sitting out all day. F those places, bro. The Shrimp Tempura was MTO and krispee AF and they have kool rollz like the Hunk Roll with asparagus and Mango Shrimp Roll. Not just cheap-O economy rolls so that they can save money and be lazy. This place is very good. Just stay away from the Obama Roll -it's all pure baloney. There are also some offerings of non-sushi items like Curry Stuff and Teriyaki-type Stuff. Also of note is the great festivus in which dishes are paired with the gnosh. Peep out the plate used with the Mango Shrimp Roll in the PIC below. Hats off to this.
