Food was okay, flavor was great and the sauce on it tasty. Service was great they checked on me everytime the waitress had a chance and it was amazing. Ambiance of the restaurant was great it was clean and spaces between tables were great for a more intimate conversation without anyone eves dropping. Overall 8/10 for my rating.

Absolutely adore sushi Daruma. Always a hit and you can't go wrong with anything here. The rolls are decent size and priced. Appreciate small businesses like this. For no wait come right when they open because it gets busy quick! Their service is also great. Food comes out quickly and delicious

The broth was so bland and tasted horrible, the noodles were worse they were soggy and the meat was reallyyyy fatty and sweet?, i only took a few bites and I feel sick after eating the ramen.

I had such a great experience here! The service was super fast and everyone was really friendly. My food came out quickly, fresh, and honestly the sushi was bomb. Everything tasted so good and the presentation was on point too. Definitely one of my new favorite sushi spots can't wait to come back!

Food was excellent. I got the hamachi kama and it was grilled to perfection. The sauce that came with it was great. It was a delivery and still arrived warm and was not overly dry or otherwise. Only issue was that there was not any soy sauce for my rolls. The alaska roll and futo maki were both great. The selection here is like no other in the area and i was thoroughly impressed with my meal. Please just read the notes on orders. Thank you

We were in Salinas for the day and we decided to check this new place out. We had tea and it was served in this cute kettle and wooden tea cups. We tried sushi, ramen, and their Bento Box and it was all delicious with large portions and very filling. The presentation was great too. The server was great except that towards the end we weren't checked on a lot and we needed more tea and water and boxes and wanted to order dessert and all that. It was good though.

Came in the Sunday night of the Light Parade, and ordered the dinner combo with Teriyaki salmon, gyoza and halibut (I believe). Everything was delicious. Considering how quickly the place filled upon opening at 5pm (due to the crowds outside), my meal arrived within a reasonable amount of time, and was complimented nicely by the miso soup & side salad. Would definitely come back to try the actual sushi next time. Inside is cute and cozy; make sure you arrive early or call in your order ahead of time, as it fills up quickly.

We went there on a Monday and it was busy so I understand the wait. 15 minutes later a server started taking our order. Because we were hungry I told her I was ready to order. She said "Drinks first!". I sighed and she said "You're getting ahead of me," in a very unfriendly voice. I was frustrated with her attitude so I asked her name. She said annoyingly, "Michelle, what's your name?" I did not reply but I am getting heated. She asked if I wanted another server. I said sure. She want back after a few mins and gave me a piece of paper with her name and said "in case you want to know how I spell it." I was so appalled with the audacity! I was with my daughter so I didn't want to argue or make a scene so I did not say anything. I got up while she was in the cash register near the bar and gave her back her paper and told her "you are so rude." She said the "You are so rude!" I went back to my table and the patrons next to me were sympathizing with me. The server walks by and said "I can ask you to leave im.. " I couldn't hear the rest. I did not reply and she left. The other server came by and took our order and apologized on her behalf. She was way nicer. I asked if the rude girl is the manager, she said no and apologized again. As I was writing this review the rude server keeps walking by and making comments. She was reading what I am doing with my phone and said "A long ass one huh"! referring to this review. At this point I chuckled because I could not believe how ridiculous the server is. She kept trying to taunt me by going back to my table despite me not responding! I have not been treated this way anywhere in the world. She should not be in the service industry Her name is MICHIELE. My daughter and I travel and eat out a lot and we talked about how we have never experienced anyone like her! "Mom, she is so rude! I couldn't believe it." Definitely telling friends not to come here. Of course no review on food bec I have lost my appetite. *UPDATE* I talked to the owner Dennis. He was very nice and appreciative of being informed. Said he will talk to the rude server and he has talked to his team. I declined the comped meal; told him she needs to be reprimanded for her arrogance or she needs customer service training before she can interact with HIS clients. I emphasized he will lose revenue because of her. I made sure he knows Stephanie the other server deserved the tip I gave her because she gave us really good service! Thanks, Dennis!

First time stopping by Sushi Daruma! * Spicy Edamame was extremely tasty! Would return for that alone! * Shrimp Tempura was wasn't anything special. * The sushi was tasty but not anything notable either. * The service was okay as well. The staff was friendly but slowed down towards the end of our visit. They were extremely fast to get the food out though! The ambiance was nice and clean.

Best sushi in Oldtown Salinas. Everything tastes fresh and the sushi just melts in your mouth. We tried the Mango Madness Roll, Fire Cracker Roll, Popcorn Lobster Roll, and the Totoro Roll. All were great. Definitely a gem in Salinas that you have to try. read more

We loved this new sushi restaurant. I went with my family & boyfriend. My boyfriend is Japanese so we're very picky and critical or our sushi. We ordered 7 rolls and shared. It was more than enough to fill all of us. They had such a great variety of rolls to please my picky family and I. We had the mango madness, sunset, the amigo, avocado maki, old town road and I forgot the name of the other two rolls. We all loved the rolls we ordered. I ate the mago madness and sunset rolls. The fish was super fresh and the amount of tempura flakes on the mango madness roll was perfect. I've had others were it looks like they dumped a cup of tempura flakes on it but not here. We had the spicy edamame as appetizer and it was the perfect level of spicy don't expect super spicy. The service great and the ambiance was cozy. read more

This place is sooo good. Dennis is awesome and I believe owns the place and normally is making the sushi. All of the recommendations are spot on and the fish is fresh and delicious!! Yuzu sake mixed with the sparkling flower sake is a favorite. Also the sunset lover roll is a highlight. Will be back again, maybe waiting more than 2 days this time. read more

My entire review is based on the sushi tacos because they were so amazing I felt compelled to write a review. I found Sushi Daruma on Yelp as I was in Salinas for the first time ever on business. After a long travel day, I arrived at my hotel late. I noticed most places close early here so I was lucky to find it still open when I arrived at 8:30 on a Monday night. I went in and ordered the food to go which was so fast. I saw the sushi tacos on the menu and asked if they were a good size or smaller since they were in the appetizer section - the sushi chef said it was a pretty good amount of food. I should've listened to him because they were bigger and fuller than I anticipated. I also got the Haru roll which was very good and flavorful. The sushi tacos, however, were outstanding. They were a true explosion of flavor and one of the best things I've had in a long time. Although I don't live in CA, I will be sure to stop back in if I'm ever in the area just for those tacos. I came here to try the ramen because I didn't feel like taking the drive to San Jose for the usual ramen spots I go to. This was the only spot in the area that offered tonkotsu ramen. I really had my hopes up for this place as far as ramen goes. Unfortunately I was really disappointed. Just like one reviewer stated about the noodles, it was just like eating cup o noodles. The flavor was o-k, but needed more spice. I asked them to make it spicy, but it was still lacking. I really wished that this was the place closest to home. read more

I am giving this place 2 stars solely because the sushi and service were adequate, BUT I had a huge issue with the overwhelming sewage stench! It made enjoying decent food impossible. I really don't think they should be open until the problem is repaired and i regret ignoring the one yelper who mentioned this issue. read more

I really wanted to find a fabulous new place. And the sushi was pretty good, but the rice was too hard. My friend had the ramen, and it just wasn't up to par. The noodles were not good and maybe were too old. The broth didn't have a depth of flavor and the pork wasn't tender enough. The server was really nice but most of the prices were too high for the quality. Sorry but I won't be back. read more

As someone from out of town I wasn't expecting the best sushi but a sushi restaurant that charges $25 for a Togo bento would put soy sauce of all things in the bag. The teriyaki chicken wasn't edible at all. Overall very disappointing especially for the cost. I regretted not getting sonic across the street from our hotel. read more

*HORRABLE SMELL*I did not even bother eating here.....I walked in and was seated, but due to the really bad smell we walked out and went somewhere else. I dont care how good the sushi is if the place smells bad there is no way I am going to eat the food. Clear up the grease trap issue and I will be back. read more

What was I expecting? Definitely not what I got. I was here on a business trip & saw that this place was relatively new & had good reviews so I tried it. The fish was not fresh; the chicken was dry & had a after taste that didn't taste right; and the salmon teriyaki was very small. The waitress didn't seem to really know her stufF... The food is good but we ordered the sashimi chefs choice and the 12pcs we got were very small and not worth the 26 or 27 per plate. The rolls their are very good and worth the 12-16 per roll. It would be a improvement if they either included more for the price or just lower the price by a couple of dollars. read more

I've gone here 3 different times. The first 2 times were great. The customer service was really good, food was delicious. Our waitress was an older Japanese women and she is great!! My husband and I went last night, the restaurant was empty maybe 4 people that were being served. The lady who "welcomed" us, barely looked at us and just said the menu is in the corner of the table. That was all the service we got, no one asked our drink order. She completely ignored us for the next 20 minutes. She brought beer to people who got there after us, she kept just wandering around and didn't even look at us. We then looked up to see if KoKoRo was open and went there instead. I wouldn't advise anyone to go on a Monday it was terrible read more

Came in to this restaurant super hungry & was not disappointed! The gyoza & rolls are amazing, along with the friendly staff!! The Mufasa roll is highly suggested. Found out halfway through our meal that the owner used to own Harumi's sushi in Seaside. No wonder our meal was fantastic, you always get the best service with this guy! read more

Said literally right after I said that "What kind of Sashimi did you want? I said SAlMON" please. She the repeated my order as "Tuna" sashimi and Again I corrected her and said SALMON please not Tuna I do not like Tuna. She said oh okay. She asked if wanted anything else I said no thank you and she again... says That was "Tuna?? Right??" ‍‍ I said no I would like Salmon!! I ran down to the restaurant from SVMH and grabbed my bag and paid for my meal I even tipped better than usual because it was ready fast. I stupidly didn't look in the tied off bag I was in a hurry. I get back the hospital to sit down and eat and..wait for it... it's TUNA!! I was upset but I politely called the restaurant and they told me that the clerk had double verified that I ordered "Tuna" I said well I should have checked my bad while I was there because I know I ordered Salmon and said it more than 3 times. I NEVER order tuna. She said well it wouldn't have mattered because you ordered Tuna so we wouldn't have given you a free Sashimi anyway. I told them I just spent $42 bucks for 9 pieces of tuna salad and cucumber salad on the side. I didn't even get my soup and I'm not asking for free food just what I ordered. Bottom line I won't be back they said next time remind them what happened they'll ad some soup or an extra salad. This was not a good experience especially since I don't normally treat myself to such an expensive lunch. Too bad Kokoro I have brought you tons of business over the years between friends, family gatherings etc.. I won't be back! FYI I didn't order online because I wanted double salad no rice and they option wasn't there online.

I've visited Sushi Daruma three times in the past month, hoping each time would be better than the last. Unfortunately, my experiences have been consistently disappointing and this is coming from local within the area. On my first visit, despite it being a slow Tuesday night, it took a whopping 20 minutes just to get water on the table. My group and I waited patiently, only to find the same issue on a Thursday visit. Again, the restaurant wasn't busy, yet we waited another 20 minutes for drinks before leaving out of frustration. Thinking perhaps the third time would be the charm, we returned on a busy Saturday evening. Surprisingly, drinks were being served promptly to other tables. We placed our order, but only one drink arrived after 10 minutes for our group of four. We never got our other drinks and didn't even bother to inform the server since this was always an issue the previous times. The food took an additional 45 minutes to arrive, and when it did, the baked and deep-fried rolls were cold. When we politely informed our waitress about the issue, we were told nothing could be done, and we would still be charged for the food. This lack of accountability and poor customer service is unacceptable. Overall, I cannot recommend Sushi Daruma. There are plenty of other sushi spots in town that offer a welcoming atmosphere, exceptional customer service, and most importantly, better quality sushi. Save yourself the disappointment and dine elsewhere. read more

Absolutely LOVE this place ^_^ The salmon here is pure bliss--it literally melts in your mouth, making every bite an exquisite experience. If I could, I'd indulge in their sushi daily it's simply that good! Their ramen is an absolute hidden gem, rich and flavorful, deserving way more recognition. The chicken teriyaki is juicy and perfectly complemented by its delightful sauce, while the salad dressing is a masterpiece in itself. I can't get enough of the Oishii Roll--it's my absolute favorite, particularly with their exceptional spicy mayo that scores a perfect 10/10! The ambiance is warm and inviting, making it the perfect place for a relaxed dining experience. My son's favorite is the Big Daddy roll--packed with flavor and always fresh. My boyfriend and I love this place! We've been here at least 5 or 6 times because the price is great and the food is even better! It's definitely a new go-to for us! The staff is always friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive. We usually stop by on Saturday afternoons and try the lunch special. Our favorites include the edamame, miso soup, chicken teriyaki, sushi, California rolls, gyoza, and chicken katsu.
