Delicious food, great service, generous portions, storefront restaurant with limited ambience. Mix Stix Asian Fusion is a surprising find in Soledad. A fairly extensive sushi menu, a number of traditional / California Chinese dishes, really attentive service by Jocelyn this evening, and quite generous portions. We ordered a Bento box of sushi and sashimi, a seaweed salad, and a shrimp tempura roll. The sushi chef only had our order to work on, so we got our food very promptly. Quite generous portions for the sushi and sashimi items (quite large chunks of fish as sashimi, and five or six big pieces of fish on rice for the sushi). However, we're used to Bento boxes coming with some other elements in addition to the main named items; there were none, and although there were cardboard shipping cartons containing traditional Bento Box trays stacked next the the sushi chef's station, we were served the sushi and sashimi items on a platter. We were also served quite a large portion of seaweed salad, and five pieces of shrimp tempura with our order. No dessert available (no mochi, green tea ice cream), but we each got a fortune cookie. The restaurant looks like it does most of its business as carryout, so maybe decor is not so important, but there is none. The red chairs are the only decor present. We expressed our appreciation for the generous portions and the very attentive service with a generous tip. For the three items ordered, with tip, we paid $53. read more

To be honest I wanted sushi but their sushi chef had stepped out and I was starving, so I got the walnut shrimp combo and I'm soooo glad I went with that. The serving was huge, I had just finished over 10 miles hiking thru the Pinnacles and I couldn't even finish the dish. The walnut shrimp was also really good, and I think I'm a good critic of it because it's a favorite of mine. Plus they made it super fast after I ordered it and for what you get the price is pretty low. Nothing fancy about the restaurant, but really great Chinese food. read more

Small restaurant that looks unassuming and as a result may have people overlook the magic they make. Panda Express opened in Soledad recently and the food is abominable (check out my review on it for details). I was in the mood for Asian and this was the only other option. Parking is adequate and the storefront is small and easy to miss, but what comes out of that kitchen was simply delicious. I tried the orange shrimp and chicken fried rice. The waitress was young but absolutely wonderful. Feel like so many in the food industry could have taken notes from her genuine smile and helpful nature. Sadly I failed to get pictures but will definitely add that to the next visit. Really think they are perfect even for take out, seating is adequate but I suspect most enjoy them for fresh takeout. Great Asian spot in Soledad; we were on our way home and glad we stopped in to try their delicious food. I ordered the chicken fried rice, no egg.. and it was excellent. Perfect dark meat chicken pieces in a stir fried rice. Hubby ordered the mixed veggies with chicken and it was perfect! Best Asian food in Soledad! The portions they give are filling. The sushi rolls are so good too. I would recommend for sushi, walnut shrimp roll, add cream cheese. We usually like this place. We generally order through DoorDash and the food arrives nice and hot (or cold, in the case of most sushi) and it's reasonably tasty. I usually order the ginger beef. While their fried rice and noodles are generally underseasoned, the sauce from the beef helps. Occasionally I like to order something different and last night I saw the item in the first photo - Almond Chicken is what they claimed it was. It looked good so I ordered. What I got, though, was nothing like the photo, as you can see in the second pic. There was very little chicken in this CHICKEN dish, too. What chicken there was had no color and looked as if it'd been poached in the sauce. It was mostly filler - celery, zucchini, some other veg. It was light on flavor and the almonds tasted stale. If I'd wanted a vegetable dish, I'd have ordered vegetarian. I ordered based on the photo of the product and did not receive what I ordered, based on the photo. While what I received might very well be their version of Almond Chicken, I ordered based on the photo, which looked really good to me. Disappointed, I threw most of it away. read more

I was on my drive home from Santa Barbara, and stopped in this city to grab dinner. I found this place on my map, and was pleasantly surprised by the delicious food and very sweet and attentive staff! This place was so delicious! Very authentic Chinese food! I could hear the chefs speaking Cantonese. All three dishes were my favorite. The hot and soup soup tasted sweet which I liked a lot. The garlic edamame smelled amazing. The kung pao chicken with fried rice and low mien was also amazing. Everything tasted great! I definitely recommend this place! Finally, a restaurant that brings good Asian food into town! Mix Stix offers both Chinese food and sushi rolls that I would rate as excellent. I started with egg flower soup that for the price feeds two but can easily feed more. The sushi rolls were great and they were fulfilling due to size and taste. The orange chicken platter can be split between two people as well. Overall, great tasting Asian food and excellent service! They are getting accustom to their new business so they might run low on some menu items or be completely sold out due to the phenomenal community support they have been receiving. The waitresses are also familiarizing themselves with the flow of the restaurant so be patient with them as they are kind and welcoming. Will be coming here for my Asian food fix! Stopped here after a day exploring Monterey. We ordered the family dinner for 2 to go and the food was ready even earlier than the estimated 30 minutes. The meal included pork fried rice, chicken chow mein, beef and broccoli, spring rolls and cheese Rangoon. Everything was incredibly flavorful and delicious with the pork fried rice being the simplest yet favorite dish of the bunch. They have a hostess/ cashier that's super nice and approachable and helpful but what seems to be the owner or owner's relative/ manager kept giving her commands when she hasn't given her the chance to do the task she was doing. Placed an order for pick up, get there, I'm kindly greeted by the young lady at the register, half way through telling her what I'm there for the owner/ family member of the owner cuts her off telling her go take this plate to the customers dining first "they're higher priority" "they've been waiting" "you could have taken it". Ok fine maybe that food had been sitting there but I saw her literally barley bring it from the kitchen to the front and and cut her off to take it. Ok. The young lady tells us very apologetic and respectfully she'll be back, she takes it comes back, as she's getting our order and ringing us out she starts giving her more commands as she's speaking to us, not even letting her finish. The phone rings the cashier puts them on hold as she's in the middle of our transaction, very professional asking those on the other line if they could please hold. We pay and we weren't even out the door yet and she starts going off on her even more telling her she should be taking the food before helping people coming for pick up even though it wouldn't have taken her more than a minute or two had she not been interrupted. She told her she should prioritize the call, even though we were right in front of them getting our food. The older lady clearly didn't care as a business owner/ manager how her customers view the business rather she's just trying to get an influx of orders in. I understand the business may not be profiting but that's no way to treat your employees especially since they're a "family business", how do you feel comfortable talking to your employees like that? They might need more employees, but mind you, there was only 2 groups of people dining in at the moment. A couple and a group of 4. If the owner/ owner's daughter was so anxious to get that food to the customers dining I don't think it would have taken more than 15 seconds out of her life. She seems very disrespectful to her staff and it's no wonder they seem to have a high turnover of employees who aren't their family. Very disrespectful to their employees and not mindful of how much their employees do for them. Wouldn't be surprised if they close down due to lack of employees, as I don't think anyone wants that treatment for long. Wouldn't recommend supporting a business that treats their employees like they're a burden, especially when I could tell how professional and respectful the young lady was. Food is good. Easily the best Chinese in the area. Egg rolls are the best. Wo wonton soup was very good. Chowmein and rice are good. Beef broccoli was okay. Aside from food, service overall is okay. The girls at the counter and waiting on tables are working really hard. The owner or manager could work on their leadership skills. The two times I have been at their establishment, I have seen her apprehend her staff in front of us customers. Very unprofessional. I recommend pulling them aside and working out those minor kinks that don't disrupt the overall flow. I will be coming back to try their sushi and other items.
