Came here on a Friday night with my family for dinner. The place did not appear busy. Right off the bat, they said it would take 30 minutes to prepare the sushi. We were slightly disgruntled, but not a big deal. Next thing we know, an entire hour goes by. Still no sushi. Then, a server tells us that it would be another 10 minutes or so. I left a five star review a few years ago. Suishi Den was the best for suishi and beef teriyaki. They have become a victim of the controlling owner, i assume it is George the suishi chef. When the restaurant expanded i was happy for the family, more room, more money. I have also wondered why we always, regardless of time of day, had different servers, and never saw these servers again. I always assumed management was hard to work for in the business. Tonight, about 6:10 pm, recognized the server who told us suishi was an hour wait. I repeat Suishi Den said you had to wait an hour for suishi! We had beef teriyaki and udon noodles. Ir was good as usual. Normally we had beef teriyaki, spider roll and two other rolls. We would not wait an hour for suishi. I told George as we were leaving we would not come back! This sushi restaurant is a gem and my go to for sushi, whether it is for takeout or eat in. The sushi chef is an absolute food artist, with fresh and super tasty rolls. While you have to treat yourself to their special rolls, even the basic rolls are amazing. Today we went there for my birthday lunch and the rolls, salads, and udon were spectacularly delicious. As a sushi fanatic, I've frequented around 20 of the sushi restaurants within an hour of walled lake. Sushi Den is definitely one of the best. Expect fresh sushi, and reasonable prices. Excellent lunch specials, traditional Japanese food, and the Sushi is top. Getting really sick of americanized sushi joints where every roll is covered in mayo, and blow torched, this is a fresh alternative. Sushi Den has all the standard issue sushi rolls plus it caters to nice list of specialty rolls. Its also notable that the specialty rolls are not that much. Dragon roll is around 6 bucks. Thats unheard of, drive to west Bloomfield and you'll easily pay double, for far less. Highly recommend Spicy Yellowtail Crunch!. It is probably one of THEE best rolls. Panko flakes, yellow tail, spicy sauce and green onions. Take it from me, I've tried em all, and Sushi Den is one of the best! I am pretty sure that I can say that, between my wife and I, we have had almost every item on the menu. This place is exceptionially good for its location. The sushi is always excellent and fresh. How do they do it? Very limited menu which reminds me of Ajishin. I feel that the sushi here is better than Ajishin. The Soba is the best I have ever had. Curry is good too. We eat here at leat once a week. They are always happy to see us, always have a table at lunch (unlike Ajishin), and have a constant supply of fresh sushi. Very little downside here. It is a little hard to find, closed mondays, mess up about 1 in 6 of our sushi orders (always correct it quickly, check your carry-out), and are a little cheap on the wasabe. This is a small, family run, sushi place tucked away in a large strip mall in the middle of the city of Walled Lake. Believe it or not, but this is a local place or a destination place. You can't see this place from the road. It's sandwiched between the former Farmer Jack's and Blockbuster stores. It's a small place, with 10-12 tables and a sushi bar with 5-6 seats. The menu is dominated by sushi and sashimi options, but they also have a page of entrees, mostly noodles and tempura. But we go for the sushi, or more specifically the rolls. There are plenty of options and the food has always been good. We like the fresh water eel and Spicey tuna rolls. Typically there is the chef and one person working the tables, so if it gets busy, things can back up, and sometimes they also get unattentive on refreshing water or tea. But they are friendly and helpful to people struggling what to order. read more

The staff was friendly, the atmosphere was nice, and the food was delicious. We got 5 sushi rolls, a piece of nigiri, and the Shoyu ramen. It was all under $40 and I have no complaints. Everything was fresh, you get a decent helping of wasabi and ginger. The ginger is nice and fresh, you can definitely taste the difference between what they serve here and the pickled helping you usually receive at a sushi establishment. A hidden gem in Walled Lake. The location is a little inconspicuous in the corner of the plaza at Maple and Pontiac Trail but worth the effort. They have excellent cuisine, much like I have had in Japan during countless trips there. The drive is much shorter than the 13 hour flight to Tokyo! I have been to Sushi Den a few times now and have always had a good meal. Happy that they are open on Sundays! The Norimaki sushi are great, as is the Tempura Udon. read more

A friend and I decided to try this place last minute, while we were looking for a place to eat on Yelp. It's a little difficult to find, tucked into the back of a strip mall, especially since the sign at the road says 'Sushi To Go' and not Sushi Den. When we got there I was a little skeptical, but when we walked in there were two tables occupied and both of them had Asian-looking people (not sure if they were Japanese or not). Either way, that immediately put me at ease. We sat down and were served tea. I decided to order a pork Katsu from the appetizers and 2 rolls of sushi. The sushi was very nice, the rolls were a little small, but not bad. The ingredients were fresh and the crunch in the roll was the crunchiest I've ever had. The Katsu was good too. The pork was a little tough but the panko coating was thin and fluffy and delicious. I think this is going to become a regular weekday lunch. read more

I had high expectation for Tonkatsu Ramen since I had the best one in Toronto not long ago. This place doesn't have the best ramen but it still tastes alright. Problem here is I have to drive an hour to get there which exasperates the wife because I do it with no hesitation and then turn right around and drive home. 2 hour round trip with NO regrets. It's difficult to find good sushi and Japanese food that is owned and operated by Nihon Jin so we make the trip to see George.
