The standard for all sushi in the state. You start by ordering from an iPad up front with a total view of the kitchen and all the fresh sushi creations being made. Not one roll or item on the menu is lacking! We went when they were out of Toro but can't wait to return to try that. The fresh wasabi and hand rolls are some of the best we've tasted as well as all the speciality rolls. Owner included a free Ube Cheesecake at the end which was incredible as well! Overall best sushi we've had so far, 10/10

After hearing great things about Sushi Friend, we decided to go check it out for ourselves. We went on a Saturday afternoon, but it wasn't overly busy. Upon arriving, you'll find limited parking at the front, but there's an entire lot in the back. Then, once you enter the restaurant, you go up to one of the two iPads and place your order. We ordered their signature roll platter, which includes a choice of 4 signature rolls. After ordering, you find a place to sit and wait for your name to be called. The staff were really friendly. Immediately after entering the building, the greeted us and offered to help if we had any questions. The sushi was good, but I must admit that it wasn't mind-blowing per se. It's a little pricey too - $65 for the platter. It's definitely worth a try, however. I have no complaints.

So I usually don't like to give into hype for places, but this place is worth all the hype it gets! My husband and I were blown away by the freshness and high quality of the sushi. The rolls had such great combinations of flavor, and the nigiri melted in our mouths! Usually I like a lot of soy sauce but this sushi was so good the soy sauce brought down the flavors. Highly recommend and will definitely be back!

I've been wanting to revisit Sushi Friend for a long time, and I finally did! Pricing is pretty standard, with most items ranging between $15-$17. This time, I tried the seared salmon, Kiro roll, and unagi don. The seared salmon is fairly classic and tastes well-balanced overall. The Kiro roll was refreshing, and I really liked how fresh the yellowtail tasted. It did lean a bit on the sour side for me. I'm not sure if there was a little too much vinegar in the rice The unagi don was savory, and the unagi sauce was slightly on the salty side for my taste. I usually prefer it a bit sweeter rather than salty, but again, that's just my personal preference. I also really like how they've expanded their seating!! It feels much more spacious compared to my visit a long time ago. There's a good amount of parking in the back, which is always a plus. The staff were friendly and welcoming as well. Overall, a solid spot with consistent quality. While a few flavors weren't exactly to my personal preference, I still enjoyed the experience and would come back again if I am in the area!

I do not say this lightly. This is hands down the best sushi in AZ and my personal favorite spot. The staff are all amazing and super helpful, a small hole in the wall neighborhood vibe. Incredibly fresh for being in the desert and they offer REAL wasabi! Which is a massive bonus for me. We got the specialty combo with the seared scallops and fire dragon roll. Both were perfection, incredible balance and blend of flavor, no need for additional sauce or anything extra. The scallops were seared perfectly and you could taste the quality of the ingredients. They really know their stuff here. Their unagi roll is hands down my favorite basic roll they offer. The only drawback is once you finish you just have to get more! Very casual seating, free water you can get yourself and they also have drink options available, no wait staff, but if they are not crazy they run the food out to you. Get there early because they have a ton of options that are not available all day due to demand. They do not load their rolls up on rice, everything is perfectly balanced and you can taste every ingredient in your rolls. Don't sleep on sushi friend if you are a sushi fan.

We were so excited to try this place after hearing so many good things. We used their app to order before heading over. When we arrived, our order was ready! Such a seamless process and the food was packaged so nicely! The toro box (although a little pricey) was so good! The seared salmon was tasty. The sushislope didn't do it for me. The spicy yellowtail & tuna rolls were solid. Star of the show was the ube cheesecake. I should've ordered my own! Not the best sushi we've had but will we be back? Probably.

I LOVE sushi friend. The sushi is so good and I think the value is excellent. All the rolls I've tried are delicious. Service is neutral. We picked up this last time and I told them we were there for a pickup and they opened the fridge for me to grab my sushi. I'm used to them handing it to me and I was just thinking should I be reaching in here? What if I grab the wrong one by mistake. However, all was good. Since they expanded we actually ate there this time. I would say it is a little dark in there where we sat farther from the window but hey I love the wall art and the sushi is fantastic.

Lots of buzz over a hot new sushi spot on Central Avenue in Phoenix. Sushi Friend has a new approach to sushi. A small and very tight restaurant located in N. Central Phoenix. Ordering is limited to a kiosk and photos on a computer screen. One orders and waits for the sushi to go or plastic trays filled with sushi to enjoy in a limited seating area. 8 out of 10 orders here are take-out. The take-out business volume is impressive. We ordered three rolls. Fire Dragon Roll with unagi, crab mix, cucumber, spicey tuna and unagi sauce ( spicey, fresh, little bite and decent flavor). AZ roll with spicey crab mix. cucumber, takwan, and scallions (spicey, flavor packed and again very fresh). Sushi Slope Roll with spicey bigey tuna, jicama, salmon, avacado and furikake (again spicey, good crisp bite, nicely melded taste). Service is relatively quick, good flavor, unique combinations with very fresh rolls. The goal here is good food with large platters or combo plates and monster take-out service. It did not meet my expectations with regard to a sit-down relaxing service. It purposely is a grab and go establishment with good quality food. Sushi Friend is pushing the envelope on take out sushi with huge volume, yet good fresh sushi. Unfortunately, it is not in my wheel-house for a night out of dining. If you are hosting a large dinner party or get-together, order a tasty tray of sushi from Sushi Friend rather than a high dollar grocery store. You will be pleasantly surprised.

The best takeout sushi I've gotten in the Valley! I ordered the 4 Specialty Roll Platter for 65$ and chose the Seared Salmon Roll, Scallop Dyno Roll, Fire Dragon Roll, Sushislope Roll. I'd rank the Scallop roll as best, Salmon 2nd, Fire 3rd, and Sushislope 4th. Every roll definitely gets you a complete bite of good quality protein and filling combination. You have to get the 30$ Sashimi bowl that comes with 11 pieces of sashimi and your choice of rice or salad bowl underneath. Great sushi without the fishy smell, great flavor combos, and friendly staff that keep the flow going during any hour of service.

ASU visit Tradition- Go to Sushi Friend! We're back in town for ASU move-in, and of course, we had to revisit this amazing spot. Once again, the boss was on top of everything so friendly, helpful, professional, and clearly dedicated to keeping things running smoothly. His crew of six was hard at work, putting out roll after roll with care and precision. This has officially become our sushi place every time we visit from NYC/CT. Flashback 5 Months Ago: Admittedly, I almost didn't give this place a chance. We're from NYC, and I was hesitant to try raw fish in the desert I mean, how fresh could it be? From the outside, it looked more like a bodega than a sushi restaurant, and the yellow paint didn't exactly scream "hidden gem." But I decided to check it out anyway while my family waited in the car and I'm SO glad I did. Inside, it's clean and a bit industrial, with two sections: a dining room and a self-serve ordering area using iPads. The system is efficient, and what really stood out was the owner personally checking in with customers at the iPads, offering suggestions, helping with the ordering process, and making everyone feel at ease. His attentiveness makes a big difference and shows how much he cares about the customer experience. And the sushi? Absolutely delicious. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and came out quickly. The staff was warm and welcoming then, just as they are now. Whether you're local or just visiting ASU, this place is a gem, and we'll be back every time we're in town! By the way, the cloudy Sake is dessert in a glass! Try it. We had take-out so we skipped, not next time, and I'm making the owner have a few shots with us.

I'm a sushi snob and not because I know anything about fish but because I refuse to eat fish that smells like a lake? Usually it needs to be an $$$$ restaurant for me to eat fish.. but it's got good reviews and a lot of stars..I told my husband if it's not good we are stopping by Mickey d's. First of all - service is amazing. I was able to order my rolls my way. The food is delicious - I ate both of my rolls to my surprise. We will definitely be back.

Indeed, this sushi is your friend. Your best friend, perhaps. Such a treasure just a little beyond uptown PHX. Went in today for dinner and was astonished by how tasty and fresh the fish was. Best of all, the sushi is authentic, with a complex and delicate flavor profile. Everything was perfect in terms of its ratios and flavors and portions, and it was such a sweet relief from the over-sauced, mayo-heavy nonsense you get in more "trendy" places around town. A combo of 3 specialty rolls (perfect size for a dinner for two) is $39, and for that price you get three amazingly delicious rolls that would easily go for $16-20+ *per roll* at lesser restaurants with lower quality. So hey, you get a great bargain, too! Amazing, fresh, truly delicious sushi, perhaps the best I've had in Phoenix, and definitely the best I've ever had at such a reasonable price point. Definitely worth driving the extra few miles north up to Dunlap to try, and I know for a fact I'll be back. One thing to note: very, very small interior--a few tables, a sit-down bar, that's it. So yes, it's the best sushi you're gonna get without driving for five hours, but definitely consider ordering ahead if you're planning to come in with more than one or two people. Oh, and you get to watch two very handsome young fellows make sushi, which rocks. Bring your girlies around for a sushi girls night--you will not be disappointed. read more

I often find the best spots in the most obscure locations, and of every hole in the wall I've found, Sushi Friend may top the list. Sushi has been my favorite food for as long as I remember. I have had it up and down the country, and Sushi Friend is one of the best locations I've ever been to and definitely the best in Arizona. Every roll is fresh and well made. The flavor is spectacular and the creativity in presentation is spot on. Beyond the incredible food, the team is a group of wonderful humans. Kevin, Joe, and BK each are a joy to interact with, funny, thoughtful, and attentive. We live 45 minutes from here but we will definitely be going back frequently. This place is well worth the stop! read more

Sushi friend is nothing short of a fun experience. I am always greeted with a warm smile with delicious fresh food. My favorite menu item is the Hawaiian Poke Bowl, in my opinion is better than any Poke I had in Hawaii. The flavors come together beautifully. My second favorite menu item is the seared salmon roll please order this and you will not be disappointed. The ambiance is a quick dining experience with expensive flavors and taste. The deliciousness and simplicity will astound you. I went in with a friend with no expectations. The Sunnyslope area has slowly been coming up and while I rarely visit, it is always a pleasure to see what is new. You pay at the counter and you order at the counter. The menu is simple. The fish is the star. We ordered some hand rolls, some nigiri, and some sashimi. And I will be honest, the fish melts in your mouth. The salmon is buttery as hell. The yellowtail is sweet and crumbles in your mouth. The hand rolls are classic. If I could describe this place in one word it would be simplicity. And that is where they succeed. Two guys at the front: friendly, accommodating, and seem like friends. I'm not one to talk to new people but I thoroughly enjoyed our conversation. This place is definitely worth a stop in. As a sushi addict, I was so thrilled when I found out that a new sushi spot opened 10 minutes from our home. I ordered online for pick up, and my order was ready after 10 minutes. It was a little difficult to find photos of the menu online but finally I was able to order through Yelp/Revi. Sushi Friend, which is right next to Ladera Taverna, is for pick up only. I ordered the seared salmon roll which consists of crab mix and the most delicious seared salmon. It reminded me of my favorite dish from my favorite sushi place in the valley. I had an order of tuna nigiri as well. I am so impressed with how good it was that I cannot wait to come back and try other items on the menu. I love nothing more than supporting local, family owned restaurants, especially when the food is actually spectacular. read more

We got takeout last Saturday night around 6. Ordering was easy but I should have ordered ahead. 75 min wait which was pretty accurate. Went next door for drinks at the Vig while we waited which was nice. Sushi was very fresh and clean tasting. We got the combo roll platter with seven rolls, chefs special, and a nigiri platter. Tuna was amazingly fresh and tasty. They need new quarters, sushi this good is in high demand. Staff was great and friendly. 5/5 read more

Oh So Good! Its easy to miss the Sushi Friend Sunnyslope shop right next to Ladera. But don't. The shop is micro and has limited seating (mainly focused on take out). The service is great and the food is super fresh and delicious. Lots of variety (and he has poke). I'm officially addicted to the Cali Bowl. read more

Doesn't look like it would be the place to blow your mind, but don't all the best places have that hidden charm? Kevin, the owner and sushi chef is personable and nice, and recommended a stingray roll for us as apart of our small platter. It was our FAVORITE thing on our platter, so refreshing and fun. So I've been dying to try this place for nearly a month but it's a little far from me. I finally made time to check it out today and I'm so glad I did. The yellowtail literally melted in my mouth. This is the first time since I moved from the east coast that I've had great sushi. On top of that the guys working in there were super friendly. He has an interesting selection of rolls, but most importantly he's serving very fresh and high quality fish. Seating is quite limited, so likely best for takeout. Came for a quick lunch on a work day and was not disappointed. The place is small, with two small counters with stools and a small, open prep area. The rolls are fresh, delicious and creative. I got the Sunnyslope roll, which was delicious. The poke bowl was substantial and fresh. Will be back and highly recommend to anyone in the neighborhood. read more

"Long time" customer since he was doing his thing before the store front. Super friendly, great service, and the most import great sushi. I recommend being a patron here at Sushi Friend whenever you get a chance. I am glad to see the storefront. Always very fresh sushi. I love the Omakase (chef's choice) platters. Can't go wrong with this IMO. Usually get the small platter and that's good for me and my family (2 adults and 3 small kids...though now my kids have a taste for sushi and we will need to up the size soon) read more

I love that this place has opened - the convenience of placing an online order for future time is super nice. Their sushi is very fresh and they do incredible platters that helps when making a decision! We ordered the small platter which came with two standard rolls, one speciality roll, sashimi, and nigiri. I wish they had a few more "show stopper" rolls that were out of the norm but maybe that will come down the line. Super friendly but when driving, the place comes up quick so don't miss it! read more

Sushi was perfectly prepared. The fish was very fresh. Somewhat limited options. They seem to adhere to the principle that you should do a few things and do them very well. Kevin the owner seems like a great guy. Very tiny little storefront he opened. Really only good for takeout. I think word will spread quickly and I'll bet he will need a bigger place soon. Have been trying to try this place for a while now. We stopped by and it was 45 min wait so we left. Togo order today with some rolls and sashimi were phenomenal!! Best rolls in Phoenix for sure. Tuna sashimi melted in my mouth, extremely fresh. I know this is our new go-to. :) read more

Found this place through AZ Foodie so I decided to give it a try. It may be small but this place packs a punch! Wow. Amazing sushi and sashimi at Sushi Friend. OK, things you need to know. This place is crazy (well-deservedly) popular. It is also very very small for dine-in. Most patrons are coming in having ordered on-line. There is about an hour wait for food, so if you want to dine in, plan accordingly. It is very very likely that a table will free up while you wait for food, but you may need to stand a while before you can sit. The staff is very friendly and checked-in on us often to make sure food was meeting expectation, which it absolutely did. All ingredients were incredibly fresh and flavorful. The sushi chefs were having a great time and were obviously very experienced. The sushi is above average priced in my opinion, but when it comes to raw fish, I am willing to save up to afford another visit knowing it will be high quality every time. read more

I love sushi friend! I've done platters and they are my lunch go-to. Platters: great quality and well presented. (And very affordable). Their rolls, hand rolls, nigiri and sashimi are all very good quality. My hands down fave is the salmon bowl, on rice or the avocado poke bowl on rice. Don't expect a fancy location, it's a little storefront and perfect for pick up. Kevin and his team are also helpful and quick. read more

We asked our waiter a few questions about a few of their rolls and he was very helpful with guidance and recommendations. We ordered Salmon Lemon, Spicy Tuna, Salmon Avocado Maki and California rolls to share for two. This restaurant uses purple rice rather than traditional white rice. This was the first time we have tried a sushi roll made with purple rice and we both loved it. It added a nutty flavor and hearty texture. Purple rice is similar to wild rice and far nutritionally superior to white rice with more antioxidant and fiber. Shortly after we ordered we were served a potsticker dish. I mentioned that we did not order the item and were informed the appetizer was complementary. We thanked the server and tasted the dish. The potstickers were nicely pan fried and had a great crust and flavorful chicken filling. Delicious! About five minutes later our rolls were delivered. All were fresh tasting and delicious. Our favorite was the Salmon Lemon roll. We loved the pop the lemon added. Honorable mentions to the Spicy Tuna roll, very well done, excellent balance of heat and flavors. Don't be misled by the fast-casual ordering kiosks - this place takes its sushi seriously. I tried the seared salmon roll, aguachile, wagyu nigiri, unagi nigiri, and was lucky enough to sample the toro (big thanks to Chef Asa). The quality of the fish is outstanding, especially considering the price point. Don't forget to skip dessert that ube cheesecake is killer. The service has a laid-back, welcoming vibe, letting the food shine as the star of the experience. A must go to sushi experience in the valley. read more

I can see why this place has all 5 stars. This was my granddaughter first time eating sushi and the experience was amazing. Karen took time with us and answered our questions about the different types and the presentation of the food was amazing. When the food arrived Karen came to our table and even offered to make it over if she didn't like her food. Thats amazing customer service. It's a small place but make the trip you will not be disappointed. read more
